We came here late Friday night after a lovely night in buckhead. The vibe is calm and very French. There's plenty of outdoor seating and the lighting outside is beautiful at night. We were shown our desserts by a host who explained each one. While this is nice it seems unnecessary and also would be easier to choose if they just had signs up in front of the desserts but nonetheless the hosts did a great job explaining each one and telling us their favorites. I got the almond lady fingers dessert which is like an almond and uncaffeinated version of tiramisu. It was decadent. Not too sweet except for maybe the bottom- the lady fingers were soaked in an almond syrup but the layers on top were very subtly sweet to make up for it. This place is open late and is very lively even near 11 pm. They also have French lessons playing in the bathroom so I suppose you could hang out in the bathroom for a few hours and come out a bit smarter. read more

I came, I saw and I ate! Whilst visiting Atlanta during a work trip, a team mate and myself struck up a conversation about our desire for salads. Long story short, we ended up at Cafe Intermezzo for a quick lunch. The service was spot on! We were greeted, escorted to the bar (we got our lunch to go) and we were then presented with menus. We both landed on the Nicoise Salad, I got salmon and she got scallops. After scoping out the deserts, we both received our salad in about ten minute and then departed. The salad were fresh, filling and tasty. The salmon was well cooked and seasoned. The salads were pricey at $18 after tax. I am giving 4 stars because the potatoes in the salad were inedible. They were clearly frozen and de-thawed but not cooked... yuck! Otherwise I enjoyed the rest of the salad and the experience and I would return. Just be aware of the potatoes! :) read more

My wife had the chicken salad croissant-she said it was very light and flavorful. My daughter had the Mediterranean veggie wrap. Ok, I had to try this. It was quite yummy. She said it tasted like bruschetta on a wrap and I agree in a naan wrap.I had the grilled avocado salad. My only complaint was that it was supposed to have black beans and corn in it . Intermezzo, located next to Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody, GA is mine and my boyfriend's last minute coffee date location of choice. (Sorry for the wordiness) Observations: On a chilly snow weekend in Atlanta, Intermezzo has awesome outdoor and indoor heating systems. The servers are dressed in matching button down ensembles and are all very welcoming. Seating was not an issue, and we were able to seat ourselves in any section. Order: I had the cappuccino brio which was an espresso shot with steamed milk, sugar, vanilla extract, bourbon extract, and almond extract. Despite the laundry list of ingredients the drink was not bitter nor overwhelmingly sweet. It tasted like a toned down caramel macchiato from Starbucks, but with a more pleasant coffee flavor. The amount is a decent serving size, so there is no lingering desire for more. Overall a wonderful drink and warming coffee date. Only complaint of the evening would have been my boyfriend's coffee. He had ordered the Turkish coffee. The Turkish coffee is strained similarly to traditional cuban coffee, and was served with an espresso glass and tin of coffee on the side. The coffee was thick and had a cough syrup flavor. It was not as much bitter as it was oddly minty. Out of courtesy he finished the coffee, but by no means was it pleasant. I've come to The midtown location a few times since it's opened. Life is grand! I can't decide if my main beef with Cafe Intermezzo is the paying for "ambiance" rather than food & drink or that the ambiance can't mask the fact that the service blows ass. They're open long hours probably because it takes an average of 5 hours to get a cup of coffee and a pastry. I realize this place isn't a Dunkin' Donuts, and you're supposed to utilize your time here like it's your own private piazza, well, in my private piazza, I like to eat, drink and make merry with my kinsmen in less than an hour and half. (I'm probably a jerk and a non-romantic, but I gots things to do!) They do have an extensive selection of coffee and dessert, but it's not worth the hassle of playing demolition derby around that pain in the ass mall and then waiting 11 hours for a cup of joe whilst you sit among the elite euro-trash wannabes. I've been coming here for years, probably since 2006/2007, so this review is extremely overdue. If you would have asked me back then what I thought of Café Intermezzo, I'd have told you it was one of my favorite places ever. Throw in that I grew up in Connecticut and did not have places like this near home, the late-night hours, and lots and lots of cakes and the bait caught me. I used to go to Intermezzo any chance I had back when I moved to Atlanta and loved sipping coffee, munching on cakes, and even getting a real bite to eat. As the years have passed, I've become more exposed to the great eats and drinks that our city has to offer and I've discovered that there are tons of options. Many fitting in better with my cheapskate ways. Additionally, I've been slightly put off by menu choices for food, with many dishes of a lackluster quality but priced as though they were otherwise. I know, this place is better for drinks and desserts, but I've been here more than a handful of times for both lunch and dinner and have left unimpressed on a few occasions. Breakfast dishes are decent and are what I typically go for. I've tried salads and really enjoyed one with fried goat cheese and strawberries. This place is packed and my review won't change that. The ambience is still awesome and truth be told, I very recently brought my best childhood friend visiting from Germany to have an after-dinner coffee. He was thoroughly impressed and we enjoyed people-watching and the beautiful weather from an outside table. You'll be doing some laps or going up and down row looking for a spot. Inside - I can't remember exactly what year they remodeled, but having an actual roof over the paved / concrete flooring makes things a little more comforting while still giving some tables to be completely "outside". We'll just call it the "patio" section, which is more spacious I think, though a light definition compared to how cramp it is inside. The metal chairs are pretty un-comfy, fair warning for girls in shorts; you'll have the outlining on the back of your legs when leaving. Restroom - A little more hidden to any out of towners or first timers. Past the bar and in the hallway that only looks like a back room for servers to enter orders. Men's room has two standing urinals and one stall I believe. Ambiance - Candle light tables and dimly lit dining notions a romantic atmosphere and / or intimate experience. Noise levels can range, depending on how busy they are. [Service]: Full dining style. Though consistency has been a hit or miss. I think it just depends how busy they are and how many other tables your server may be juggling. Ok to great. Have yet to have a bad server experience though. Ordering Cakes / pies / dessert display case - A "cake-pert" or two (trademark pending =P) explains the various desserts on display that day. They do not like to put labels out for some reason. But you can always ask what's "in it". Though, I think it is confusing as they are dressed normally instead of server attire. [Food Highlights]: *Tip - All cakes / desserts aren't actually made on location but delivered. Though they do give a very huge, generous slice for sharing. If you want to. Spinach Cheese Dip - Good if you enjoy things cheesy. More dip than bread, so scoop generously. Seafood Cheese Dip - Creamy and cheesy. Bits of seafood. Yes please. Lobster ravioli - Portions are small, was ok. Smoked Salmon Pasta - Very creamy. Salmon was ok. Pretty good. Almond tiramisu - Slightly bland on top and rich on the bottom layer. So so. Coconut cream cake - Overly rich than anything. Meh. Bosco - Not as good as it used to be. Pretty tart. Mexican hot chocolate - Medium level sweetness. Pretty good. Mint Chocolate Granita - A tad too rich for my tastes. Hot Chocolate (regular) - Semi sweet to me I think. Ok choice if you're overwhelmed by all the options. {Summary}: I think that service and noise levels would fluctuate depending if you are going on a weekday or weekend evening. Certain food items have been consistent most times we have it, others are just meh. It's usually an after dinner spot for whenever I visit, I don't think most entree's here would be filling. I've tried the following: Food: Baked Baby Brie with almonds, served with raisin-walnut bread and apple slices: Great appetizer! Spicy Tortellini Alfredo: Yum Italian Gnocchi: Yum Chicken Chipotle Panini: This is my favorite thing to order for brunch. Springer Mountain Chicken, red onions, tomatoes, provolone cheese, and chipotle mayonnaise on ciabatta bread served all hot and melty. Beverages: I recommend the Mimosas (they use a good punchy dry champagne in this) or the Strawberry Martini. (ask for top shelf) As per the ambience: A snuggly little nook of a place. A "Sex in the City" themed day out with my girls, can't be official without a visit to Cafe Intermezzo. We arrived here after a much needed Manicure and Pedicure. We walk in what felt like a space traveler and ended up in Europe, but unlike some of the friendly Europeans, we were greeted by a host that handed us menus and said seat yourself. If this place was crowded I might have been more understanding, but if you have the free time to hand me a menu do you really not have time to direct me to a comfortable table? The waiter was very nice (and cute, which is why I added a star). I ordered the Shrimp salad with a Mojito which was awesome. After the meal my friend and I were really excited about dessert (I am hands down a huge Cheesecake lover), the waiter instantly returned with our check, no mention of dessert no refill on our drinks, and to top off this already not so good service, he brings the check without splitting the bill. So after reviewing this place I remove a star. One star is for the unique decor and the great salad (which I will get again at a different location), and the second star is for the waiter's looks alone. If you've never visited this location it is tucked away in a what looks like an abandoned plaza, for it to be this dead you would think the service would be better to entice people into returning. read more

Cafe Intermezzo has always been a favorite. I have been to the old Buckhead location and the old downtown location, but this was my first experience at the Dunwoody location. I absolutely have loved this place in every location- they have beautiful interior design that makes the place look cozy but upscale. They have a whole bar devoted to delicious cakes and cheesecakes- a 20 page long beverage list- and moderate prices. So what's wrong with this place? It's the service. Every time I come here I spend half the time asking for the waiter, wondering when our purchases are going arrive, when will my water be refilled, when will my check come. I mean it borderlines ridiculous considering this kind of service happens even when they are not busy. It really dampens the experience because I love the atmosphere, the food and the drinks at this place. I even had my 20th birthday at the former Buckhead location years ago. However. The experience and the food keep me coming back. I love their unique, chocolately drinks. I recommend the Spanish mocha, the Swiss mocha, the Cafe Mozart, and the Irish coffee. I love their chocolate peanut butter cheesecake and their fruit tarts. Delish! And my all time favorite entree here is the cheese tortellini with shrimp and extra spice. I will say they their food has always been inconsistent. That bothers me because sometimes the pasta is watery, sometimes it's oily, sometimes it's bland. It isn't cool that it is so unpredictable. Though it has a great atmosphere. Great interior design. Good choices. And this particular location is easy to find and free parking with a stunning outdoor patio- though today our service was slow. Can't speak to the food here, but the drinks are amazing. This European style cafe makes sinfully delicious coffee and hot chocolate by using rich ingredients such as schlag (a Viennese whipped cream that is fluffy and rich). I got a small Intermezzo cappuccino, which has espresso, whipped cream, chocolate, and a hint of cinnamon. Simply divine! It was just what I needed this morning. I also ordered a slice of Oreo cheesecake, which is apparently their best selling pastry; it was solid, not the best I've had, but well made. This is a perfect after hours place, say after a night at the Punchline or after dinner. When you get to the cake display, you salivate even more than Pavlov's dog. The mysterious woman behind the counter even seduced me by saying some of the cakes were sent over nite from Italy. I really like this place for the ambiance and for being a great late night option opposed to going to a bar or lounge. But, I have to admit, I don't know if the prices of the cakes are justified after sampling at least 10 of their cakes. I guess I'm paying for the fed ex shipping from the Kroger/Jewel Osco of Italy. J/K, that's a bit harsh. I even prefer the Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes over Intermezzo's cheesecakes. I think so far, the berry tart was my favorite from here. It's been years since I last set foot inside this Cafe Intermezzo, but it was nice coming back and trying them out. A group of us from work decided to come here for... technically cake, but we ended up ordering regular food as well. I ordered the spinach cheese dip that could come with crackers or bread, so I only got bread. My other friends ordered a half Caesar salad and a Chicken Panini with kettle chips. The food didn't take long to come out but we were in no hurry either. I only drank water because their drink menu was bananas long... I'll study it next time I go. My other friends ordered a Salted Caramel Granita (with alcohol) which wasn't bad, but I don't like coffee and found it bitter and my friend also got a surprise at the bottom of her glass... all the salt was there... Guess one should stir the drink up before reaching the bottom... My other friend ordered a hot chocolate Glasgow... which she gets all the time. I didn't try hers as I do not drink hot chocolate during the summer. The food was pretty good. The spinach cheese dip was rich creamy and had good seasoning. I'm glad the server brought me extra bread as I only smeared small amounts onto the bread and had a lot of dip left. I heard no complaints about the small Caesar salad or Panini so it's safe to say they were enjoyed as well. Now on to the sweets. I ordered the seven layer chocolate cake that was suppose to have a thin layer of raspberry on the top layer... but it was definitely lacking in any raspberry flavor what so ever. Also I'm not sure how their cakes are prepared such as baked and frozen or baked and refrigerated but my cake tasted watered down. And to take in to account how long it was sitting in the case, it just could've been so much better but it just came off as thin and flat tasting. So one friend ordered Mint Chocolate chip cake and her cake tasted better than mine, so perhaps it was fresher, and it was definitely super minty... and another friend ordered their Oreo Cheesecake which tasted good but I can't eat a lot of cheesecake but I wouldn't mind sharing a piece of that with someone. They do need to make sure Oreos are spread more evenly throughout the cheesecake as she had a huge chunk that was just plain, but other than that... it was the better selection out of each of our desserts. Service was fine and the hostesses are helpful when picking out cake from the case if you don't know what you want. I wouldn't mind coming back and trying a different dessert though. The worst part was when we spoke to the manager on shift, she stated she couldn't control "nature" and offered to remove only one item off the food we ordered instead of charging off everything. My girlfriend and I had yet another splendid meal at Intermezzo the other night. We've yet to have anything, but a great experience at the Perimeter location and it's been our longtime standby since we often like to eat on the later side and other places close by 9 or 10 PM. We ordered the Chicken Duxelles crepe, baked Brie appetizer, and I had the Parisian turkey on a croissant. It was all fantastic as always. Their good is incredibly consistent and we've tried most of the menu. The service has always been impeccable as well. They're timely and friendly. We know several waiters by name and they remember us. The atmosphere is cozy, but elegant. There is plentiful indoor seating and then there is a large covered patio and an uncovered area with a fountain. I've yet to find a bad table. For drinkers, they have an extensive beverage menu - lots of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. There aren't a lot of wine options, but everything else is plentiful. The drink menu is like 45 pages long. The desert selection is also ridiculous. There is a full case of torts and pies and another full case of various cheesecakes. You can't go wrong. I would recommend this place over and over. It's especially great for couples and even as a first date option. read more

I didn't even use syrup for most of it. The powdered sugar and cinnamon was enough. I tried the exotic grape wine tea. It was really tasty, especially after adding a couple sugar cubes to it. By the way, that exotic tea/beverage menu was lengthy! It made it quite difficult to choose which one to order, but that just makes me want to come back and try a different one. It was a moderate crowd around 2 P.M. The noise level picked up a little bit. The ambiance is very nice. I love the way the place looks. The bugs flying around due to the doors being open? Totally didn't match the rest of the scene. Close those doors, y'all. We chose to sit INside for a reason. Other than that, wonderful experience. The food was great, the surroundings were nice, the service was fair- a bit slow, but not horrific. It's a good place to sit down and grab a bite. My husband and I absolute love Cafe Intermezzo! Everything is wonderful: The food, the espresso drinks, the food, the deserts, the service, and the atmosphere! We have tried a little bit of everything, but today I had the sausage and egg panini, and he had the French toast. Both were yummy. I had a pumpkin cappuccino, and he had a white chocolate mocha.
