This is a really nice spot for a date night or a special occasion. Cafe Intermezzo has dark lighting and a nice little corner spot in Downtown. We were able to seat ourselves on a Monday night when we came, and the service overall was really good. We had two types of cheesecake and some french press coffee for dessert after a dinner somewhere else. My fiancé had the apple crumb cheesecake, and I choose the cookies & cream cheesecake. Both were fantastic as is pretty much all the cheesecake here, but the apple crumb had my vote for the winner of the two. Their coffee is always good here as they have a very extensive coffee menu, and the quality always hits a high bar. Overall, this place is a great spot for dates or some nice dessert after dinner. Incredible coffee shop with great aesthetic and vibe. Both drinks we got sounded really good and lived up to the hype. My friend had suggested this place for lunch on a Sunday, and I'm so glad we came! The weather was perfect to sit outside so the group of 4 of us were able to quickly be seated without a reservation. The kitchen was backed up, and it took almost an hour just to get our food, but it was worth the wait. I ordered the plain waffles and added scrambled eggs, which was very filling. Café Intermezzo is a great casual spot if you want something a little on the quieter side. The space itself is classic "cute cafe" looking. I stopped in for a brunch in between meetings and for the American Omelette with Rosemary Potatoes and a Mimosa. The potatoes were bland but the omelette was cooked well. It was good but nothing extraordinary, I'd eat it again but I wouldn't go back just to order it. The service was definitely slow especially given that it wasn't very busy at the time (it was mid-afternoon) but I wasn't in a hurry so it wasn't a big deal. They have a pastry case that will leave you wanting to try every dessert - I'd go back to try something sweet from that for sure. read more

A group of colleagues went in to Cafe Intermezzo to get to go coffees before our concert. right off the bat, the manager came to us and said they could only seat 8 folks together and if we had more, they can't accommodate. I said we were only getting to go orders. At which point the manager said, 'You have a party of 8. We automatically surcharge a 20% fee for large groups." I replied, "we are all paying separately and not a party of 8, we just know each other." The manager was quite rude and said that was what they would do. I said I would leave and then there would only be 7...she then said, 'doesn't matter. We're charging the upcharge 20% for your party whatever size.' At which point, I had already ordered a coffee...which was priced at 4.50. My bill was charged $5.46. She upcharged the two of us who stayed and had ordered coffees...to go. And I wasn't even given what I had ordered. LOUSY customer service. LOUSY attitude by whom I assumed was the manager as she dictated to the others what to do. To be upcharged 20% was a theft from me. I will NEVER EVER go back to this cafe. Rude service, upcharging when it was not necessary. I can understand if we had taken a table for there to be an additional 20% fee. But for 2 folks...all the other folks left. And another group of 6 colleagues was on their way in to order to go coffees when they stopped them and told about the upcharge and the crappy attitude. So the business lost customers-forever. We were not a bridal woop woop party. We were all playing at Symphony Hall for a concert. The coffee was not good. The service was horrendously bad. The attitude of righteous condensation and dictorial manner of the manager-absolutely uncalled for. Our group are all of a demographic who tips, who understands about service workers. I'd like to say shame on the manager for ruining an outing for us to get coffee, but whatever. this is my only recourse. Oh...I paid the bill and tipped on top of it anyways. Recommend if you want to go coffee with anyone more than yourself, be prepared for some baloney rationale and attitude to the female manager. As veteran industry folk it gives me supreme ick to write a yelp review but hot damn, every time I go here it's the same story and after reading through the other reviews, it seems it's the same story everyone has had issues with... THE SERVICE. Weekday, late afternoon shifts with an empty restaurant and still no host in sight we stand at the host stand trying to be polite as we wait and wait and wait and no one appears and no other staff acknowledges our existence. In an awkward fit of desperation we sit at the bar, which is also empty, and proceed to again sit and wait and stare and ponder life's greatest mysteries as intermezzo staff ignore us and focus on a staggering total of two drink tickets. As the staff is weeded making a single latte, I make eye contact with BOH staff, a manager and the barista and with each pregnant pause and glistening wanting eyes, we are ignored every time. we wait 8 minutes and feel so uncomfortable we have to give up, unable to actually experience the lack luster service we have heard so much about in the other reviews because the staff couldn't be bothered to even give us any. we walk out of the restaurant and eat elsewhere, feeling like we are the fools as this is the second time it's happened. Paige, before you @me and double down and defend your poorly trained staff, just focus on the basics of hospitality and things will turn around. No emails needed, no discounts on pie, just a smile and a hello will do. read more

Where has this been all my life?! I am just now hearing about this 100 STAR café, my mind was blown when I walked in, felt like a Café straight out of Europe. I came in later in the day and did not order coffee but will be back to try it! I walked in and my eyes went straight to the pastry showcase, there were so many options I was so overwhelmed​ with the options and the amazing smell of espresso being made. One of the servers offered to go through each and every cake/dessert they had and I was amazed at​ the knowledge he had about the cakes and the owner. I had a full conversation​ about the ambiance and how well this resembles a café I have visited in Madrid, Spain. Coming in and I just had to sit and take everything in from the intimate table seatings to the smell and how relaxed everyone was inside. I will​ be coming back for sure. From the design of the exterior sign all the way down to the tiles of the restrooms, Cafe Intermezzo give you a taste of what a classic European café looks like (at least, what I think they look like). We went here at around 1:00 PM on a Saturday, and it was fairly empty inside, with only 4 or 5 other parties seated. The interior hosts A LOT of small tables, likely making busy hours run smoother. Our server was extremely friendly and attentive, answering all of our questions not only about the café but also about the area. I ordered an Intermezzo Hot Chocolate, and it gave me all the warmth and yumminess that I needed before braving the crisp Fall air. We also got a slice of cheesecake (I can't remember which particular flavor, but I think it had chocolate and hazelnut), and it was easily one of the best slices of cheesecake I've ever had. My boyfriend had accidentally spilled his entire cup of coffee on himself, and the servers were quick to come help clean and offer another coffee. Agh I so wanted to love this place but it was incredibly lackluster. Service was slow and disorganized. Our waitress was lovely but for a very tiny place, everyone's drinks and food came out in waves which was ridiculous and we barely got an apology. I was embarrassed that I suggested this place to our out of town guests and apologized relentlessly for the experience we were having. The food was lukewarm at best and nothing to rave about. Neither the French toast, eggs Benedict, or lattes were worth going back for. The cake case looked old and stale. When all was said and done, the bill was well over $250 and because everything took so long, cost us $50 in parking fees. One and done! read more

Nice Try! I'd describe this as lipstick on a pig. The coffee is good and that's about it. It's a tourist trap. There are plenty of local gems that are worth the wait and this is not one of them. If you're a local and reading this review, stay away. If you're a tourist, go ask a local that isn't working at the hotel or on the party bus or pedal tavern you're on. Amazing. This little cafe is tucked away just outside of Nashville's main party street. My wife and I came here on our honeymoon and had the best cheesecake we have ever had. The music, low lighting, and candle lit dinner made it a very romantic evening. The friendly staff and overall atmosphere was excellent. We even came back and purchased one of their cups and saucers for a momento of our meal. When we return to Nashville, we will make this a priority visit. 5 stars all around read more

Chicken was very dry, they put way too much dressing so my salad was basically soaked with the dressing. My espresso was horrible (under extracted); tiramisu was good, but little pricey ($9). My experience at this establishment was far from satisfactory. I have visited on three separate occasions, and twice I discovered foreign objects our meals. On the first occasion, my friend found a hair and on the second instance, an insect was present in my food, as shown in the attached photograph. I had ordered a chicken crepe and upon returning to my workplace, I discovered the insect in the box of leftovers. The condition of the box was exactly as it had been when I had it at the restaurant, untouched. Upon discovering the issue, I promptly returned to the restaurant and brought the matter to the attention of the manager. However, the manager's response was far from professional. She not only accused me of fabrication but also disputed the timeframe of my return, suggesting that hours had passed when in reality I had returned merely 15 minutes after leaving the establishment. She said " I will refund you only this time" !! Acting as if I come there everyday and do the same thing!! They clearly have a problem for that to occur twice. First time with my friend's food and this time with my food! Disgusting. I am never going back there. I've been here twice now with coworkers for brunch and both times the food was exceptional; ditto with the service. The establishment is gorgeous inside and very inviting. The first visit, I ordered the Mediterranean Wrap and added chicken. It was made with this wonderful, fresh naan bread and had the perfect mix of veggies, goat cheese, and mushroom tapenade to create a flavor bomb. The sliced tomatoes with basil and balsamic glaze on the side complimented the the wrap perfectly. Delicious! The second visit, I ordered the French Dip sandwich with rosemary potatoes. I could not finish the perfectly roasted potatoes because I got quite full. The dip was absolutely delicious with fresh bread and loads of roast beef. Very filling! I will definitely be back, but next time I am determined to try a salad...or maybe their burger. I'm sure anything prepared here is going to be worth trying. The interior/ atmosphere is so cute, perfect for a date night, girls night out, or even a business dinner meeting. It's the perfect blend between casual/ formal, without feeling too much. The food and drinks are some of the best I've ever had. You can tell the staff/ management took their time when creating each dish and cocktail. Standout items: Spicy seafood dip- served with fresh, warm bread. The dip even has whole pieces of seafood in it. Salmon Oscar - cooked perfectly and with a creamy, rich hollandaise sauce. Chicken saltimbocca- packed with flavor and garlic- yum!! White & spice cocktail- I don't even like bourbon and I was in love with this drink. Tip: Don't skip dessert! They have an amazing display of cakes & cheesecakes! The tiramisu cheesecake is awesome and we also tried the vegan pb chocolate cheesecake mouse - which was so good!
