My daughter and I went to Cafe International recently, online their menu looks really good so we went ! We entered the restaurant, a gentleman was cleaning a table, he was definitely not dressed to work in a place that prepares food ! We sat down at a table, he said our waiter will be along shortly, we saw another gentleman who honestly looked worse than the first. Terrible service! We were seated and noone took our order for over 15 minutes. We flagged down another waitress who took our drink order. After we got our drinks, our waitress arrived. She comped my wife and our granddaughter's drink (i had a beer). She took our order and left. We never saw her again. 30 minutes had gone by and other people who were seated after us were getting their food. I flagged down another waitress to ask for the manager. The owner showed and the order was never placed in the kitchen. Instead of trying to expedite our order, he "took care" of my beer and let us leave. Do not recommend this place. I'll keep this to the point. Four of us were there Sept. 11th. Although, the staff was very nice, that's really the only good thing I can say. As we entered a young couple we're leaving. As we passed, She said to me "don't go in it's really dirty and the food is disgusting". With that said, two in our party refused to eat and only ordered a beer. The food was not good. Lessen learned!!! The deck was filthy and needed a pressure washing. While we waited for our table we saw a middle age man walking around the restaurant. He was smoking and filthy with mud caked on his jeans as if he had been working on the plumbing under the building. Surprisingly, the servers were approaching him as though he was management. This place is definitely one of my favorite dining spots in Helen now. I would definitely suggest the Reuben--the menu claims it to be best in town, but I have to disagree... it is by far one of the best I have EVER had! Their German beers on tap are to die for (My personal fave was their Erdinger Dunkel, a dark hefeweizen.) There is outdoor and indoor seating... Inside is pretty drab, but outside is simply beautiful, nestled right on the Chattahooche. Ask for Tracy... Super awesome service!! read more

Mother's Day with my children and grandchildren was a nightmare! Our waitress for 2 tables was so rude and "bossy" to the "old lady" in our group = ME! She maybe a "boss" there to her employees, but she needs to remember "Waitressing 101...The customer is ALWAYS RIGHT!! If the customer asks for Iceberg lettuce instead of ROMAINE LETTUCE, don't tell the old lady customer (from Brooklyn NY) that our lettuce doesn't come from Arizona where the "bad" lettuce comes from!! I don't care!! I am always a VERY GRACIOUS TIPPER because I was a waitress in the 1970s and 1980s. That table was a ZERO tip day!! read more

Great place- do not be put off by the lack of stars. It is excellent! We weren't sure where to go for lunch on our way back home. After a couple of failed attempts at other places, decided to give Cafe International a try. So glad we did!!! No wait. Perfect outdoor seating. Our waiter, Chandler, could not have been more personable and helpful. Everything was delicious, ready quickly, and they had something for everyone. Perfect for families with pickier kids, but braver parents. Service, food, setting was exceptional!! We will return to Cafe International next time we're vacationing in Helen, GA!! read more

So I don't usually write many reviews but here you go. I went with my wife on a day trip to Helen we've been meaning to go for a while now and it's a very quaint town we were looking for some place to have lunch and I did look up several restaurants for their reviews and this one came up as a four-star review away from it being directly on the river with River views which were very nice the best part about this restaurant was they had paulaner Oktoberfest on tap which I was very surprised. Since it is one of my favorite beers I ordered the veiner schnitzel and my wife ordered the two sausage platter my Veiner schnitzel I could make better myself it was horrendous and the portion was very small and it was relatively pricey at $22. My wife had the two sausage platter one sausage was very good the veal and pork the second one I don't know what it was but it basically tasted like warm Maloney now we have traveled to Germany and Austria and we are off recent trip to Vienna which I had Wienerschnitzel everyday and it was spectacular I was extremely disappointed and what we had was probably should have chosen one of the other restaurants and I hate to give a negative review but that's what some of the worst Food I've ever had at a restaurant. I would pass this restaurant for another there are plenty of restaurants there and it is a tourist area so you're going to pay a little extra I understand but like I said I was very disappointed I hope this review helps somebody read more

Oh my god, how awful food!! After looking at the beautiful Main Street it looked like the best place to get a meal. Trout was more like frozen fish with lemon pepper seasoning..garlic bread was hot dog bread with garlic powder, lasagna with frozen veggies n cheese slabs, buffalo chicken wrap was frozen chicken with sauce!!! Cheap meals ..nothing satisfying. We ordered 18 dishes and not one of us enjoyed their frozen quick meals!! More like trip to hell in Helen :( Not to mention the bathrooms were stinky & dirty..they charged us 300$ and made us sit in a closed room!! Don't fall for the sweet talk of the staff who tried to make us sit ASAP and gave us the worst seating..at the end except the waitress no one thanked instead they started commenting on our group!! Not worth the view..not worth the food...definitely not worth their attitude!! Is this a German attitude!! So shitty!! read more

I am so happy to leave this review for such a trash establishment. Zero stars if I could. Cafe international?? What a joke. Not only did they have staff who wanted to make racial comments about my family but their food is almost as if you take frozen meat, throw some sauce on it with a pricey tag. My freshman college dorm food tasted better than this. The racist behavior of the employees was the icing on top. Maybe not talk about my family right outside our seating. If you guys can leave google reviews to reflect this place I would advise it. I wish I read the yelp reviews before my families first trip to Helen ended so disappointing. read more

The owner of the bar has an outrageous rule to not accept any vertical ID/Driver's License. Pretty ridiculous considering a lot of your clientele is from out of state and many of those states do not require an updated horizontal ID if it isn't expired. I wouldn't advise spending money here if you're from out of town. It's honestly just lazy to not actually read an ID and see that it is or is not expired and the person is of age to drink. read more

After a fiasco at Paul's Margarita Deck regarding an emotional support animal and party being rudely turned away, we decided to go across the street to Cafe International. So glad we did! Our party was warmly welcomed- especially the doggo! Being a hot day, our waiter had a fresh water bowl brought out for the pup before we had even placed our drink orders! Not a bad spot but don't expect an amazing place either. Located directly above the river (which is probably the best part of this place) this restaurant is located in the heart of Helen. The menu includes a few typical selections from various international cuisines. Since the town boasts a Germanic atmosphere expect a larger German part of the menu. I feel like the food here is overpriced due to the area and feel. Customer service was ok the two times I've been. Nothing horrible to review on. I should have known after reading the reviews favoring the Reuben sandwich not to order any German food. We shared the Wurst (Sausage) Platter. The sausage had very little taste, like they had been boiled too long, the sauerkraut was just that, sour, like it was taken straight out of the bag or can and heated up. The German Potato Salad was awful, had a sweet taste and was in like a creamy sauce. It was not made from fresh, boiled potatoes, I'm guessing they were from a can. The best thing they can do, it take this dish off the menu, it is a bad example of German food. read more

Great service, great beer selection, terrible food. The location is right on the river in the center of Helen, which is very nice. Our waitress was prompt, very friendly and knew the menu well. We ordered a ReUber Sandwich to share and it arrived piping hot and in a very reasonable amount of time. After taking a bite out of the sandwich, my fingers were literally dripping with grease. This was a bad sign, so I open up pulled the top piece of bread off and put it on a napkin to soak up the grease. After examining the contents of the sandwich we both noticed there were items missing. Main item should have been Pastrami...there was almost none. No cheese, no thousand island sauce, but lots of sauerkraut. We didn't eat the greasy sandwich, paid and left. First and last time here. The place is under new ownership.....maybe they'll figure out that skimping on food quality and quantity will quickly put them out of business. read more

If I could leave a negative star, I would. Walking into the place I felt happy and comfortable with the live music and lively atmosphere. But upon sitting, the waitress was not friendly. She didn't offer us the specials and when it came to ordering the food and drinks she didn't offer us a beer menu. We asked her for it and she just walked away without responding. She then came back with a beer menu. My mom ordered a beer that came with a free koozi and when the beer came I just touched it to feel the koozi. I never even have it close to my face. But the waitress came over and demanded my ID and said I have to show it to her because she said she saw me drinking when I never did. I showed her my ID to avoid any argument. Then when she brought the food, and I asked her for mustard, she put her fingers in my food and flipped the ketchup packet over and said "it's there somewhere". I was shocked she just felt so comfortable to put her fingers in my food. So uncomfortable. I spoke to the boss and he was very nice and apologized. I hope they fix their customer service or offer retraining to staff that needs it. We left a tip because we know the job is hard work but will not come back to this location unfortunately. read more

Review your bill carefully. Two items were up charged by 2$'s. two items were up charged by 1$. And a one dollar sharing fee was given, even though each person ordered one dish each. The waitress quickly corrected the check, but the manager was too busy to come to the table to apologize. Helen is known for it's wonderful "authentic" German cuisine. I would have to say, this place was my biggest disappointment. Thier food selection is clearly processed food. Nothing here seemed fresh. The German potato salad was canned. Hamburgers were lower quality then fast food resturant serve. If I am going to eat out, I don't want anything I could have bought at Walmart. This place claims they serve the best rubin in town. I am a big rubin fan, however I found this sandwich lacking in taste and originallity. Arby's carrys a better rubin. It did have an abundance of oil though. Of all the places there are to choice from in Helen this would be at the bottom of my list. In my opinion, the only reason they still have business is because they are located on the water. If you are looking for good, authentic German food, try others in town. read more

I love the location of this place, right next to the water so it's beautiful. We had our puppy therefore we had to sit at the tables outside of the restaurant which was far from the water view. Service was okay, they took awhile to come get our order for food and drinks. It was awesome that they gave my puppy a bowl of water to drink. I order the Reuben and it came with chips,pickle, and coleslaw. My boyfriend ordered the sausage platter and he thought it was mediocre. My daughter did not like the spaghetti that she received. I ordered the cheese plate for an appetizer, and it was very good. It was something different. But I also ordered the Italian sausage. ( bun, mozzarella cheese, marinara, and a sausage). The bun was the same cheap buns you can buy at Quiktrip ( I know because I work there ), and the marinara makes it all soggy. BLAH. But we sat on the porch outside on the river. I went with the Rueben (it's German so I had to) but wished I had gone with the French Dip which looked less greasy. It tasted good even though ti was dripping juices everywhere. If it weren't for the kids, it would have gone really well with a nice Amber Lager. Went in 4 my birthday today and it was great. They heard it was my birthday and gave me a free desert. I got the peach cheesecake and it was incredible. Lunch was great and the view is even better. We were here with my family on a weekend during Oktoberfest. The weather was perfect so the hostess set up a table for us outside. There was no one sitting inside anyways, except two dudes. It was really nice sitting right by the water. Our server was really friendly but I don't remember her name now. She explained the German beers they had on draft and I order the lighter Erdinger. It was a good choice! Then I order the salsa and chips which was nothing very special. For lunch I had the French dip with cheese. It was really good! The meat was really tender and not overly fatty or anything like that. My mom ordered the Reuben and it looked really good. From Mary in the Dutch grocery/nick-nack store to Kelly at the Riverbend Motel.....go get the Reuben. So what did I do? Ordered the Reuben (sides are kettle chips, pickle spear, and good coleslaw). It was great. My wife got a bratwurst (comes with kettle chips and a pickle spear) which was so-so **disclaimer** it came with Swiss cheese and she's not a huge fan. The beer prices are fair and the German import selection was on point. The pitcher price is worth it. In total with a pitcher of German beer, my wife's bratwurst, and my delicious Reuben our check plus tip came out to $40 or so. It was a delicious lunch. If there is space available go for the outdoor seating on the river. It was very enjoyable as long as the weather cooperates. Went here to have a bite and just kept getting disappointed from start to finish. The Bavarian pretzel was tiny compared to other places in Helen. Ordered the schnitzel and German potato salad, all of which tasted like cafeteria food with not much thought put into it. Couldn't finish even a quarter of the plate and got the bill and it was almost eighty dollars for two people for 2 drinks, 2 entrees, and a pretzel. I was expecting a lot from this restaurant because of its nice location along the Chattahoochee. My friend and I sat outside and had a lovely view of the river. But that was the only nice part about this experience. From the name, I thought there would be a variety of international foods. However, the menu is quite small and consisted of very basic meals from America and a select few European countries that you could get anywhere. The food came out too quickly, and to be completely honest, it was one of the worst meals I've had in Georgia, and I've lived here (from the metro Atlanta area) for most of my life. I'm usually a person who finishes all my food, and I left half the plate uneaten. I got the German Wurst Platter, which is supposed to be one of their more popular items. It was a huge disappointment-- the "German" sausages tasted like any old sausage or hot dog you could get at your chain grocery store, and the potato salad had a weird aftertaste. It was almost like they used beer to make it, which I dislike; I really wish they included that in the description since people like myself may not be able to tolerate the alcohol taste. The red cabbage didn't seem fresh, and I doubt they made the bread in-house. My friend got the vegetable lasagna, which tasted like it came from a frozen dinner, especially because it wasn't fully hot. After a few hours, my stomach is still upset from their food. The service was subpar as well. They weren't mean, but they weren't exactly nice or very culturally competent. Overall, it's extremely overpriced and not worth your time or money. I'm not sure how this place stays in business. Firstly, the patio, while it does have a great view, is incredibly cramped. The inside is disgusting. The bathroom was 100 degrees and dirty. The food...just don't. I'm a fairly easy-going person when it comes to dining out, and I wanted to get up and leave. The Brat was a Johnsonville. I can buy those at Kroger. The potato salad was the most disgusting thing I've ever put in my mouth. Truly disappointed. Wanted authentic German. No...just no. Go to the Wendy's. read more
