Really good Italian by authentic Italians! Stopped in never mind the construction, disregard it being in front of a motel and was rewarded by a great lunch served by exceptional people.

Veal Parmigiana
Gary K.

So, while visiting the lovely town of Marshall, Texas, I decided to grab some Italian at this place Café Italia. Let me say that it's far from authentic. The sauce was terrible way too much oregano and quite over seasoned. When I cut into the veal I was surprised, no breading whatsoever. Now let me say that I am aware that authentic veal parmigiana is made with breaded veal and then sautéed in a pan with oil so it comes out Friday as if it was put into a deep fryer. As you can see here, no breading whatsoever. I did ask the waitress and she went to the kitchen and came back to. Yes it's breaded, but it's a light dusting on Friday. Well let me see I didn't see anything and I'm sure it was probably absorbed by the oil. I will tell you there is a finished piece of processed veal I ever had. Didn't taste too bad, but it was definitely process and you can tell him and frozen. Not out of the ordinary, though. That was far as the spaghetti with standard dry pasta. It was not fresh as they say on their menu. No possible way was that fresh pasta. Definitely dry. I also see the sauce too again over seasoned way too much seasoning especially oregano. And I'll tell you it reminds me of going to a Greek own diner, and getting pasta. It seems like a Greek tomato sauce more than an Italian. And it's definitely not find dining as they say.

Seafood Alfredo

1/9/20 Came here for dinner after being on the road for a while. Yelp shows me this restaurant and how great it was, so here I came. I ordered the seafood Alfredo and shared mussels as appetizer, my coworker ordered the lasagna. Our food came out pipping hot but it was so delicious. I sincerely appreciated the establishment staying open for us to be their last order. Every bite was yummy and the service was great. Will always return here if in the area. Also this place is BYOB, so bring in whatever you'd like to drink.

Ordering the chicken piccata: Me: "Can you please add artichokes to that?" Them: "No, 'she' won't do that." Me: "But you have like 5 other things on your menu with artichokes. I'm happy to pay extra." Them: "We can't do that." Me: "Can I get a side of artichokes on a separate plate?" Them: "No." Me: "I'm confused. You have artichokes in one of your salads." Them: "If you want something with artichokes, might I suggest..." Me: "No thank you... I'll take the chicken piccata." Tip: if you aren't willing to accommodate simple customer requests, that's totally your prerogative. Probably best not to expect positive reviews though. You also might consider relocating off the main highway where people from out of town, and who may have out of town service level expectations will be less likely to stop in to try your establishment. The food was ok. Service was awful. If you are from out of town, just keep driving. This place has a very strong "locals only" vibe. And by the way, artichoke hearts are more common than not in chicken piccata. See pictures. Cheers.

Meatlovers Pizza (Medium)

A hometown favorite for good reason! I've never had a meal or experience from here that wasn't great. The staff always provides wonderful customer service. On my recent visit, I ordered a meat lovers pizza that was delicious. So much better than main stream pizza joints. I will continue to go back to Cafe Italia!

Eat here often. The food is amazing. Service is good. Probably the best food in Marshall. Highly recommend you try it out.

Got rice with chicken. Rice was undercooked a few minutes. Not enjoyable at all. I had added…read morechicken but not much flavor and offset by hard rice. Nasty, threw most of it away. Wife got surf and turf. Two shrimps, middle of the road. Two onion rings, small and floppy. Burger was like a frozen party and only half seasoned. Overall, garbage foe the price. If I paid three dollars, I wouldn't complain!

Came to this restaurant for my birthday today with my parents…read more My dad ordered the charbroiled oysters and onion rings. I ordered the fisherman's platter with onion rings, and Mom ordered the fried rice with all the meats. Dad's oysters and onion rings came out first after probably 20 minutes. He was satisfied with both. I'm thinking they probably cooked his as an appetizer, which is why it was brought out first. Prob 15 minutes later (Dad was already finished) mom's fried rice and my fisherman's platter arrived. Portion size was big on both. Mom's fried rice had chicken, shrimp and crawfish in it. She said some seasoning would have kicked it up a notch, but that it was fine. My fisherman's platter was a mixed bag. The fish, shrimp and onion rings were very good and I'd get them again. However, I wasn't a big fan of the crawfish tails, the fried oysters or the crab cake. Something tasted off with them, and I left them there. I deduct a point only because of the slow service. If and when I go back, I'd probably just get the fish and shrimp with onion rings.

I went to Skipper's Pier in Gladewater thinking I was just grabbing dinner. Instead, I had one of…read morethose meals that makes you sit quietly for a minute afterward questioning why you ever eat anywhere else. The seafood was ridiculously good. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, the seasoning was on point, and everything came out fresh and hot. I'm convinced somebody in that kitchen has a direct connection to the Gulf because there's no reason seafood in East Texas should taste that good. The place was busy, the staff was hustling, and somehow everything still came out fast. By the end of the meal I was already planning what I was ordering next time before I had even paid the check. If you leave Skipper's hungry, that's honestly a personal decision.

I went here with my dad who was born and raised in the area. He explained that we should go early…read morebecause they can get really busy, really quickly. So we went at around 4:45 in the afternoon on a Friday. There was already a 20-30 minute wait for a table inside, but instant seating on the patio, which we took. I'm breaking this into two scores--the food which is the most important, and the service (not just waitress, but overall). Food 4.5 stars--not perfect, but very good. Service 3.0 After getting seated on the patio we were told the server would be out shortly. After about 15 minutes I went back in to ask for menus--coincidently the person that seated us was telling the server that they had people at our table, so I turned around and went back out. Shortly thereafter we were given menus and we ordered drinks. Dad got 50/50 tea and I got water and a whisky rocks which confused the waitress. "So like, with Coke?" No, ma'am, just the whiskey poured over rocks, whatever your house whiskey is, I'm not that picky. We already knew what we wanted and ordered the catfish filets with fries, and fried okra. The food came quickly, but still no drinks. Eventually those came out. My whiskey was in a larger glass, not a whole lot but enough not to complain. The waitress then asked if I wanted a straw for it because she wasn't sure. She might have been new to service, so I'm not upset, I was more amused. She is working at a bar/restaurant but perhaps the servers are kept seperate and she's not used to running for the bar. The food was excellent. The catfish was freshly fried, the outside a good crunchy crust and the inside darn near dissolved it was so tender and moist, not even a hint of being over or under done. Excellent flavor, it didn't need the house made dips (a tartar and a cocktail sauce, both great), but they complimented it. Tartar was heavy on mayo flavor than traditional tartar, but you could still tell what it was. Cocktail sauce seemed fairly standard, I guess I can't promise that one was house made. Two jalapeno hush puppies came with it. They were standard fair, a little bit of spice, enough to enjoy while letting non-spicy people still tolerate it. Crunch went deep, the center was cooked but a lot less of the ratio than the crunch outside. Fries were also standard, but fried well, good crunch and fluffy inside. Fish was the absolute star, it was "close your eyes and enjoy" good. Fried okra was bland. It was crunch on the outside, soft but not gooey on the inside so they treated it well to reduce the slime, but it didn't stand out from any other fried okra I've had. Wouldn't get it again, but it was cheap. Didn't get checked on very often, I think we were offered drink refills when we asked for the check. Got the bill. Fish plates, $16. Okra side: 3.50. My one ounce of whiskey, TWELVE DOLLARS. I don't know if she rang it in wrong, or if their prices are just ridiculous for that stuff. Lesson learned, don't order alcohol here. But most certainly order the fish. Service lacking, perhaps still learning, fish was absolutely wonderful.
