My biggest complaint is that they do not deliver to motels only to hotels. Even if your motel is .4 miles away

Updating some reviews on local places that I frequent. I might give Cafe Italia another 1/2 star if that was an option, though what I previously said still holds true. It's the best Italian in town, but that's not saying very much. Food is pretty good, but I may tend to grade Italian on a bit of a tougher curve than Tex-Mex and other local cuisines as there are excellent examples to be had in bigger cities. The staff is very friendly and will do everything that they can do to please you, though even in the best of times, the service isn't polished. One thing that I may not have emphasized enough, but that I have come to increasingly appreciate, is that you can bring your own wine!! But again, that's mixed news. If you don't have your own private stash, what you can buy here in town is severely limited. But if you shop for wines in Shreveport or Dallas, you can bring you own wine, glass ware, etc. and drink excellent wine with little or no corkage. read more

There is absolutely nothing outstanding about this restaurant...except the horrible service. We've had the same young male server the last 2 visits, and he has GOT to be someone's nephew because he is TERRIBLE! The food is okay, but nothing is freshly made, and everything comes from the usual restaurant pizza suppliers. This means the pizza tastes like everyone else's mediocre pizza. My husband had the lunch lasagna on the last visit, and it was fine. The one notable food that saves this restaurant from 2 stars is the freshly baked, warm bread. The website made this restaurant seem very proud of what they do, confident that the food will be enjoyed. I ordered the Chicken Alfredo and was highly disappointed. I have worked in restaurants before, and I know microwaved chicken when I see it, not to mention the awful taste and texture. I had to push the chicken aside, as it was also untrimmed, and the sauce was mediocre, very much like a store bought in a jar type of sauce. The noodles were okay, the temperature of the food was great, the bread was tasty but the fact that I had to add so much salt, pepper, garlic and red pepper to make it edible should be embarrassing for them. I will try this place again, but I will not get chicken!! This chicken wasn't reheated grilled chicken, it was cooked in the microwave all the way. Do not go here. I was very disappointed in the customer service and how my fiancé was treated with the owner. The owner would not take a bad meal off his ticket and told him it was "a bestseller for 14 years". I do not have reason to believe this. I have worked in restaurants in the past and you do not argue with a paying customer who is not satisfied with their meal. We reserved a room for a small party and as usual some of the group was late. We ordered a few appetizers while we waited and one of the owners came out of the kitchen and started yelling at us about ordering before our group was complete. That was the worst service that I have ever received not mention damn right rude of an owner. Needless to say I will never return. I would've gotten better service from McDonald's. they won't stay in business very long with that kind of service. read more

Run from this place don't walk. There is better Italian food in downtown Marshall with much better service. I have had more than one negative customer service experience. We took 19 family members for a dinner. We were asked by the manager to sit 6 kids ages 5 and under at a separate table alone. The table was "too long" and had to be walked around. I actually asked if it was worth the business and that we would leave if they moved the kids off. The manager insisted we couldn't sit together. The room was not full and there was plenty of room to move around the table. We left and took our business elsewhere. In the past I have had issues scheduling board meeting dinners here as well. We have been asked to have board members park in the back so we didn't fill the parking spaces in the front. Also told we couldn't use the front room for a board meeting because they didn't want to run the air for 12 people even if we paid a fee for the room. I am done. I will think long and hard before I spend my money there or encourage others too. read more

Let me preface this by stating I'd like to give two different reviews, one for the food and the second over the service. For the food, I would give Cafe Italia 3.5 stars. I've been to Cafe Italia multiple times in the four years I have lived in Marshall and have tried plenty of dishes and my overall experience of the food was positive. However, my second review is over the service. If I could give them zero stars for this aspect of my dining experience, I would. The terrible service only gets worse on Sundays which is one of their busier days. It seems like they are always incredibly short staffed. Additionally, the owner has the tendency to get overwhelmed and frustrated when the restaurant is busy and she takes it out on her customers. Granted some of this may be due to misunderstanding on part of both parties due to her lack of well defined English speaking skills. Our most recent experience with their awful customer service is recent. On this particular Sunday we asked to be seated at a table of eight and were given two separate tables, one that seated six and another that seated four, that were four or five feet apart and diagonal from each other which would render us unable to actually have lunch with our group. When we asked if we could scoot the two tables together or get another table in which our whole group could sit at we were told no. Instead of eating lunch there, we left. This is not the first time that I have been unhappy with the way we were treated by the owner and it seems to be a recurring experience. So in short, if you just want good food and do not care how you are treated as a very well paying customer (the price point of the dishes can be high), this is the place for you. However, avoid it like it is the plague on Sunday's. Unless you are into be treated like second rate customer. read more

The lady who owns the restaurant is very friendly and sweet. She cares about her customers, the food, and her buisness and she knows them by their names. She cares about the safety of her customers and I think that is the best thing you can ask from your waiters and waitresses. The food was amazing as well. The pizza was huge and delicious. The balsamic chicken had a delicious sauce on it and was just really good chicken. I cannot wait to go back and try more of their food! read more

The service at this place is awful! I was yelled at for wanting a copy of my receipt. I'm here in Marshall for business and its mandatory for expense report! She threw a menu at me for wanting the itemized copy. Also they do not accept American Express. Food is okay but not worth the stress AT ALL! This review is all about context. The food is bland and would probably rate lower in any sizeable city. But this is Marshall, TX, which is not in the middle of nowhere, it's harder to find than that. More like off to the side of nowhere. Never heard of Marshall? It's about 30 miles east of Longview, TX. Oh, never heard of Longview either? NOW you're getting the idea. Anyway, I was thankful for a restaurant you could sit down in and my choices appeared to be this, Wendy's, Waffle House, or some all-you-can-throw-down-your-gullet place named the Golden Corral. We were staying next door at the motel, this place looked like it had good food. I ordered a pizza to go to take back to the motel for my wife and I. I explained how I wanted it made in detail, as my wife cannot have sausage! I orderred it half and half with extra cheese on the whole thing. I got back to the motel and it was all the same with no extra cheese. I called over there and talked to the person whom I ordered it from and they were really rude, saying he decided to make it all the same instead and just add the pepperonis to the one side. This wasn't for the man to decide! The pizza tasted good for me, but not for my wife! I paid $20 for a pizza made wrong and they wouldn't fix. What a bad attitude this man had!! I felt like I should have called back and talked to the manager about him. Rude employees can really affect your business!! I will never return. read more

This place is a traditional, classic Italian restaurant in every sense of the words. From the paintings and Italian country side mural on the walls, to the old school Italian music played on the sound system. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. The food is reasonably priced. It's a big menu with lots of choices, a section for chicken and a section for veal. I stopped in for lunch. I ordered angel hair pasta with marinara sauce with mushrooms. It was very good, great flavorful sauce, and a good amount of mushrooms. Other choices with the marinara were meatballs, sausage, meat sauce, and black olives. The real surprise was the bread. The meal came with two rolls, small loaves, of bread that were a real hit! Hot and fresh, crispy crust on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside. I could have made a meal out of the bread and a bowl of marinara to dip it in! If I am in the Marshall area again and wanting some Italian food, I will be back! read more

I ate here with my parents last Christmas and it was a wonderful surprise! The food was delicious, better than any Italian I've had in Austin (not that I can afford Italian in Austin, but this review is positive so I'll shut up). I had a wonderful lemon caper chicken dinner that knocked my socks off. I didn't try anything on anyone else's plates because mine was just too good. Very good, very authentic Italian. Much better than some of the other fine dining establishments in Marshall (Applebees and El Chico, I'm looking at you). I hope it's still open when I visit them again. read more

Cafe Italia has good pizza, and not just for Marshall. My husband and I are frequent repeat customers for the pizza. The crust is near perfect and the toppings taste fresh. The sauce is a little too sweet, but that's a fairly minor knock. I've not tried any of the entrees, but I can't imagine they're as bad as the other reviewers say, considering they've mastered the rarely-mastered art of pizza. I'm a recovering New Yorker, dozen-year Bay Area resident, and occasional visitor to the United States District Court in Marshall. I happened to try Cafe Italia tonight because it was actually open at 9pm. Good choice. I am a big fan of both "high" and "low" Italian food. I cook a fair amount of the high, but I get cravings for the latter. If you're from (or have spent significant time on) the East Coast, I'm talking about the kind of Italian food you get at a good pizzeria that sells slices -- heavy on the tomato sauce, mozzarella, and such. The chicken parm was well flattened, perfectly cooked (all the way through, but not dry), topped with tasty (apparently freshly made) tomato sauce and mozzarella, and accompanied by spaghetti with the same tomato sauce, a couple of nice (and large) fresh rolls, and a pretty forgettable but crisp salad (mainly iceberg lettuce). It would've been perfect with some parmesan cheese, but whaddyagonnado. Hot, tasty, and fast merits four stars in my book, but not the same four stars as a high-end Italian restaurant. This is the WORST PLACE to order food. THE OWNER IS VERY RUDE. As I was picking up my to go orders that were called in ahead of time, the owner checked me out. I was trying to figure out who ordered what, so I could do multiple transactions. The owner rushed me and stated that she had to be in the kitchen and other places within the restaurant. So, I asked if I could pay when my food was ready. She stated no, I needed to pay now. After paying now, the owner did not give me any receipts. She threw my reciepts in a drawer. I understood that she was busy and so I waited to ask for my receipts when my food was ready. After the food was ready, I asked for my receipts thrown in the drawer. The owner threw me a menu. She preceded to tell me HOW to use the menu to subtract the money that each person gave me from the menu price in order to calculate the amount change they should have gotten back. All I asked for was for my receipts to give to my coworkers. She did not have to give me a basic math lesson in a very rude way. I told the owner that I was not going to be disrespected as a person with two masters degrees and I will not be coming back. Her response was okay like she did not care. Note: The owner is very rude. No one should be spoken to in this way. Plus the food was bland. It is not worth the money or time. My personal recommendations are to eat at Gucci's Pizza or Pazzeria by Pietro's. Gucci's Pizza is the BEST and my favorite place to eat when I come to Marshall. You will not be disappointed with the variety of pizza or pasta selections. Also, they have a buffet and specials on their pizza. They will include a salad with your pasta. The pasta comes in a good serving size (enough for leftovers) and is not bland. My fiancee and I were back in her home town so she could visit some old friends. We had been out all day and decided that some delivery pizza would be fantastic, if we could find some. I found Cafe Italia on yelp, and thankfully they were still open for delivery. Seeing adam h.'s review of the place, I had a pretty good feeling this place would know how to make a good pie. Boy was that correct. Coming from someone who grew up in the northeast eating NY or near NY pizza, it was like a taste of home. The cheese and the sauce were damn near perfect, and while the crust was a little too thick it had a great flavor and crunch to it. We also ordered some cheese sticks that weren't the best I've ever had, but you could tell they were hand made. On top of it all, the delivery was extremely fast to our hotel. Wow, excellent place! After a VERY sub-par lunch at the Collin Street Bakery in Hide-A-Way, my wife and I were ready for a decent meal. We're always a bit leery of restaurants attached to motels (not hotels, MOtels) along the interstate. From the outside, this place seems Iike another crummy, greasy spoon. The "Restaurant" sign on the building is mainly burned-out. Stepping inside leaves a bit to be desired, but I got our food to go... The foil container the food came in was piping hot; so hot it burned my hand right through the bag. Upon opening the bag I was greeted by a pleasant smell of tortellini and an excellent pink sauce. The bread that came with it was fresh and warm. (some butter would have been nice) The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars was because of the location. Being attached to a motel and the ugly sign took a lot away for me. Other than that, excellent food. read more

I love this place! The food is really good! I am also biased I worked here for Christmas break over college. But seriously they home make everything!!! There are excellent cooks, you can try anything on the menu and won't be disappointed. My favorites are the pizza with toppings of veggies and messes, Alfredo dipped in their homemade rolls. We were seated promptly. Waiter seemed like either he was new or maybe it was his first job. Overall he wasn't bad. The food wasn't bad. We have chicken parm, veal parm, chicken broccoli Alfredo, and chicken Murphy. The food was all pretty good, but it wasn't awesome. My FIL mentioned his veal wasn't completely hot. We stopped at this place just passing through Texas, and we were pleasantly surprised. I had the pasta combo and my husband had the lasagne. Both were excellent. He also had the house salad, which included mushrooms, black olives, and mozzarella. He had the house dressing, which was tomato based. It was good. The bread they served before the meal was nothing special in and of itself, but it was hot and had a nice crisp crust, and made a good sponge for sopping up the last of the pasta sauce. There was a guitar player the evening we were there, playing James Taylor and Eric Clapton tunes. He added a nice fun atmosphere to the evening. We were greeted at the door by a lady I assume was the owner. Everyone was smiling and friendly. This place was a joke! We went during lunch and there was only one other person in the restaurant so there was not a crazy rush for this to have taken place. I was craving chicken fettuccine with peppers, onions and mushrooms. Mind you, their menu offers additional toppings for an additional fee and a way you can build what you want. I was told I could not revise one of their meals to better suit my taste. At this point I could have cared less to eat here but my husband asked me to just get something. When the waitress came over again I asked for a second time, "why not if we are willing to pay for the extras?" I was then approached by the cook who informed me that by me adding the veggies would not make it taste right and basically he will make it for me but if it does not taste right THEN I BETTER NOT COMPLAIN.
