I came here this past weekend while on a road trip with a group of fellow college students, and for a group of 20, they did a great job. Our waitress handled the large group well--I know we were a handful. The menu is extensive and includes almost every Italian dish I've ever heard of, and I have Italian heritage. The Chicken Piccata wasn't the best I have had, but it tasted homemade and wasn't bad by any means. I suppose my only real complaint was that we were at the restaurant 2.5 hours, but we were a large group, so I suppose I understand. Before I review Cafe Italia, I want to get one thing straight: Anyone who says "...Food is not top notch, but decent given the context of where you are." is either not well-traveled, or has an inferiority complex about his hometown. I have eaten Italian food in several of America's largest cities -- including the largest -- and Cafe Italia ranks up there. The main dishes: I've had several pasta dishes here and they are all delicious. Everything has depth of flavor. Period. The sauces are marvelous and stick to the pasta, whether it's the brandy cream sauce in the Veal Dama Bianca or the marinara served with the eggplant parmesan. The pizza is better than most pizzas I've experienced in New Jersey, and consistently better than all of them. Yep. When I order a pie from Cafe Italia, I know what to expect. I can honestly say that I can claim that for only one other non-chain pizza joint. The crust is thin, just as you would expect in a NY-style pie. It's crisp and chewy. The cheese and toppings are top notch. My only complaint: unless you tell them "a little extra sauce," there's a pretty good chance you'll have a hard time tasting the (excellent) sauce. The sides: I generally get eggplant parmesan to spoon on top of my cheese pizza. With this comes a salad and some rolls. Keep in mind the salad is a to-go order and I live some 25 miles from this place. The salad is what it is: some iceberg lettuce and purple cabbage served in a hamburger-sized Styrofoam container. But the bleu cheese dressing is obviously homemade and outstanding. I generally order calamari from this place, because the meat is melt-in-your mouth and the breading is light and crispy. Did I mention that this place is 25 miles from my home? I've also had the stuffed mushrooms, which were rich with crab and white wine flavor. The service: It's good. I would agree with one reviewer that it's unpolished. It happens. If you are on the I-20 corridor between Dallas and Shreveport, check out Cafe Italia. You'll be glad you did. **Update** (07.10.11) Cafe Italia recently opened in Longview in the former location of Joe's Pizza & Pasta, which was inconsistent, but decent. The menu is the same as the original Marshall location, and the quality and taste are just as good. This is probably the best Italian food restaurant Longview has ever had. Didn't even try to listen or be polite about it just said to look at the sign which said pets weren't allowed, Service animals do not count as pets and are defined as medical equipment same as a wheelchair. The food was basic the waitress was doing the best she can with what she had. So if you are going in there with a huge party stay far away. They pad the bill. I am well aware of what people in my party order and they over charged for several things. Even when the waitress confirms she made a mistake. The boss (cook, cashier, owner ect ect Rude and pads the bill). This person is so rude and makes comments as if we weren't going to pay for the items on the ticket which we did and paid well over that. They just write things on the ticket and then you have to go to the front and pay. The (boss) repeatedly tried to add to everyone who individually paid they had to confirm several times what they ordered. I was well aware how this works so being that I was the host of this event I purposely waited to the end to pay and I paid for 2 extra sets of meat balls when 1 only came to the table and the waitress said one came to the table. I was well aware that my farther paid for that one before I even came to the register because he loudly said his order and what he had. The reason I picked this place is because they were nice enough to accommodate a party of 17 and well over that with kids included. I am sure they were ok with doing this is because they know the way they do ticketing they could make more. We tipped the waitress well it wasn't her fault but it seems like everyone there is so intimidated by the (boss) they are all walking on pins and needles when the (boss) comes around. My normal Italian place in town could not accommodate that many people and I try my best to keep my business local but this one place will never be an option for me. So with this all being said if you like rude people and just mediocre food then here you go. With all of the local adults I had with me this will never be a place they will visit again. Since moving back and being the foodie I am this will be a no go for me . So my main go to for Italian in Marshall will be Pietros Pazzeria in Marshall. Seems like a lot of people are not aware of them. So This is a HUGE NEVER AGAIN FOR ME. I am known for my honest reviews and a foodie wishing my circle of family and friends so here ya go. read more

We had impeccable service by Austin and all the food was out very promptly. Our service was great! Our waitress, tall with glasses and very kind, was great! The food was less than desirable. I asked if the Caesar salad dressing was homemade and the answer was yes. The salad I received was a salad with homemade dressing but it lacked Caesar dressing and Parmesan cheese. The dressing tasted of mayonnaise and mustard. My husband and I stopped here for dinner for the first time, and oh. MY! My husband had the Jerusalem Chicken, and he says that it's REALLY good! Absolutely insulting attitude by the owner/manager. Walked in Fri around 630 pm. Was seated and placed my order for appetizer. One guy. One order lol. When we pulled this place up on the map our first thought was, knowing a little bit about Marshall, there's nothing but gas stations and low rent hotels in this area. The decor was a mix between an old Bonanza steakhouse and a 1970's Holiday Inn reception area. The service was as I expected. But the reason it was as I expected is because when I saw it sandwiched between a gas station and low rent hotel, my expectations dropped like a hot rock. Our waitress was either a freshman or a sophomore at Marshall High School and the reason she was working here had to be because they didn't have any openings at the McDonalds across the street. She was nice and sweet but when my wife asked about the Chicken Marsala and she said, "That's my favorite, I get it every time I go to Olive Garden" we knew what we were working with. Let me repeat - the waitress at Cafe Italia told us about what she gets when she goes to Olive Garden!!! Can't make this shit up! Believe it or not, my food was actually pretty good. One of my friends had a good shrimp Alfredo. Our wives' meals were not very good. The sauces were overwhelming. Wow!! We were so impressed by this little hole in the wall. We didn't know it was byob but it's next to a gas station so my husband ran over to get us something and they provide frosted glasses and wine glasses and opened everything for us. Exceptional service! Our waitress recommended the chicken Murphy and it was delicious! Creamy with a little bit a a kick, so many flavors going on in this yummy dish. My husband had the chicken Rosini. It was very good too, flavorful marinara with fresh basil. Their house made pasta was perfectly tender. This is the first time I have ever shared my experience at a restaurant. Cafe Italia was so horrible I wanted to warn as many people as possible. However, I did give it a one because the bread was pretty good. I ordered Shrimp Alfredo Fetuccini. Pasta was ok, the shrimp was rubbery and very fishy, like it was cooked days ago. My wife got the pasta combo and they brought the wrong thing and instead of just taking back the server just argued with her that she said something different. I finished my meal and my wife's dish finally arrived and it was a large bowl of sauce with three little stuffed pastas floating around, covered with cheese. Tasted frozen. We ordered two kids portions of spaghetti and meatballs - it was just perfect for our 3 kiddos and they ate it all!! The Cesar salad was ok- the dressing was more like ranch but the chicken was great. We also ordered the cheese tortellini alfredo with chicken and I thought it was wonderful.
