Café Jax is known for breakfast, which is actually pretty good. Eureka, Montana is a small town, and this is definitely a locals-preferred eatery. Obviously, they will serve people from out of town, but we found the service diminished while watching all the locals being catered to. Locals get table touches from the owner, while we sit and watched. On trying to pay the bill, the owner encouraged and allowed a local to cut in line, pay first, and told me I would be next. When he was done with the local, he walked away and bused a table... total snub. After waiting another several minutes, one of the other employees finally took my money. Cafe Jax used to be much better than it is today. I remember as a child it was awesome! I just drove in from Canada for work. I'm from Texas and I was waiting for a good hearty meal once I crossed back into the states. I was not disappointed by Jax. I ordered the biscuit and gravy and it was delicious. The bacon was thick and cook perfectly. I'm giving it three stars for the service. The hostess was nice but the waitstaff needs some upgrading. We were here on 8/16/14. I would have given 5 stats for the food alone. I had a burger that was probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. You could tell everything was freshly made. The reason for 4 stars is it's very confusing when you walk in. This is a 'seat yourself' place however there are no signs that tell you this. You end up with a traffic jam in the front area of people clearly confused on what to do. And while the service is very good once seated they kind of ignore you when you are standing looking lost and confused at the entry. My recommendation avoid the front of the restaurant, walk around to the outdoor seating and grab a spot. They'll see you soon enough. Covered patio seating available. read more

If you're coming to Cafe Jax, don't plan on eating anything for a month or two prior to arriving. The portions are simply gargantuan, especially if you opt for a shake (which you should). After over a week of appalling prices at restaurants on the Canadian side, the amount of food you can get for your dollar here is outstanding. They make a killer burger, too! I personally applaud the Build-Your-Own option. Don't forget the bacon! The waitress had some trouble getting my shake order for some reason, and my friends had to wait for me to finish after they were long done. Still, it's worth a stop. read more

I'm giving Cafe Jax two stars because I have had some good experiences here. I drive down to Kalispell frequently and stop in at this small town dinner often. Usually it's pretty standard, not great but decent. Yesterday, I stopped in to grab two chocolate malts and had a bad experience. The angry girl making the malts ran out of ice cream and divided what she had left between the two and used extra half n half which made the Malta horribly running. She also didn't have enough for both so she only partially filled the second and said so when she handed it to us. Not impressed. I think I'll hold out for Kalispell or Fernie next time. read more

Cafe Jax is a wonderful restaurant. The pancakes were a hit as we celebrated my sons birthday. Also, the service was wonderful as we had a large group. We were provided ample space in the back room and the server was spot on with taking care of our group. I would highly recommend Jax! read more

No idea how the food is, stopped by with my family. There were 7 of us. It was busy, like most small town breakfast and lunch places on a Sunday. After 10 min a waitress came to our table, literally throws 2 menus down (for 7 of us) and mumbles they are short menus. Then she leaves. A nice young lady brings us waters and ask for other drinks, she wasn't out waitress but obviously trying to help. After 30 minutes we still haven't placed orders nor seen the waitress in our corner of the place. I finally walked up to the cashier and I informed them we have been sat for 40 minutes without placing an order. He apologized, offered our drinks (coffee and 2 milks) for free. But does absolutely nothing to convince us to stay, take our order, get us service. I paid for the drinks (looking for a meal, not a handout) and left. Will never go back, food is probably decent but service is some of he worst I've ever seen. It's a shame. Seems like they've figured out that lack of competition means they only have to be open, not good. read more

I have never in my life had worse service than I did here. It was an hour and forty five minutes between the time we walked in the door until the time we actually received our cheeseburgers and onion rings. In the meantime, we were patently ignored and avoided by our waitress. The food was fine, but words can't express how terrible the service and overall experience were. Cafe JAX, a small and well established cafe. The young ladies that work there are great, and the manager (Steph) is awesome! It gets busy really quick, so be patient...it will pay off! My family and I frequent JAX because we feel right at home there. If I had only one criticism, it would be that I would like to see better attention to the quality in which the food is cooked, other than that JAX is worthy of your patronage; whether you're a resident or a passerby. I'm from Canada but whenever we make a trip down we stop in either for some lifetime free coffee as we bought some to go mugs which they are so friendly about getting filled up or for a great breakfast. I'm not a huge fan of there crazy summer dinner menu as I'm a very basic girl, but there breakfast is to die for. Well worth the wait, what do you expect from a small restaurant that is constantly packed with people. Let me start of by saying that I'm from this area. My parents go here for breakfast and lunch all the time, and I went to high school in Eureka. However, I was APPALED by the service that my friend and I received while we were there. First off, like another reviewer said, it took them a good half an hour to even come talk to us in a practically EMPTY restaurant, which was pretty ridiculous in the first place. Then, our waitress finally decided to grace us with her presence and she asked "What do you want?" in such a snotty tone, full with eye rolling and sneering. She was being rude to us just because we looked like out of towners. Hello! Last time I checked, you make the majority of your summer business from tourists, so you better be nice! Our food took forever, and we also had to ask for ketchup because there wasn't any at our table. That alone took 5 minutes. We were there for over an hour and a half. I don't know what took so long, considering there were two other tables. The only thing I can think of it that they decided we were tourists and were treating us rudely. Very frustrating to me since I've eaten here several times and my family frequents this establishment. I'm only giving it two stars because I have had okay service and food here in the past, apparently when I didn't "look" like a tourist to them. read more

Very standard food for this type of restaurant. The place was busy. We waited over and hour and a half for a kid's meal and a quesadilla. I don't care how busy you are, that's too long.
