This was a charming local place that my friend and I stopped by on a weekend trip to Fernandina. It was just a block off Center street, and the patio was adorable with bistro lights and a tree canopy overhead. Clean and colorful interior with a separate bar area off to the back. I ordered a Bloody Mary which was delicious- just enough spice without being overly spicy. I took a risk on the veggie burger (sometimes they are so boring), and it was really yummy! It was homemade, and I added some cheddar cheese to it. The potato salad it comes with was really good! Not too mayonnaise-y, but fresh with red potato. My friend got their "mixed" fries (half sweet potato, half regular). I love this option because who can really choose?! Beautiful outdoor seating just off of Main Street. Super spacious seating in the shade of oak trees. The menu is well planned . There were 4 of us - I had the blackened mahi sandwich which was huge , topped with fresh lettuce , tomato, red onion and a light salsa sauce. Very tasty and well proportioned. It came with a mixture of sweet and regular fries. I had a cold intuition IPA which went together very well. Our waitress Emily made sure we had a cold bottle of water for the table as soon as it was 1/4 full . Tasty food and good service. We went for lunch , in the evening the lighted garden patio area looks very inviting. We will go back for supper soon. read more

Did not care for the large amount of bean mush on the Baja baby salad. Ordered the Thai noodle Listed as slightly spicy but was so spicy I couldn't eat it (granted I am a wimp). Got the Philly steak sandwich instead and wasn't impressed at all. Crumbled beef (not much at all) didnt see cheese or onions. Extra $3 charge for fries. As a vegetarian, this is one of my favorite restaurants that I have ever been to. The veggie burger was so flavorful. I love that they make their own and didn't jump on the bandwagon like everyone else and serve the Impossible or Beyond Meat burger. I replaced the standard potato salad with the lentil salad and it was exquisite. Both of them were so flavorful, with ingredients I wouldn't think to put together but paired perfectly. I wanted to try every salad on the menu they all sounded very creative & delicious. I paired it with a happy hour guava mojito & blush sangria. My boyfriend enjoyed his flatbread but was especially blown away by the key lime pie (his favorite). Our server was great & the atmosphere is great icing on the cake (so cute!) After a nice breezy morning on the beach we dared to venture back into civilization in Fernandina Beach which was north of Amelia. Slight twang of what could be the makings of a tourist trap. (I hope to god it doesn't, I'm so sick of the myrtle beach crap that goes all up and down the east coast!) After sitting down we were warmly greeted with a couple of drinks I opted for a Tanqueray and Tonic my babe wanted a Bloody Mary. It was slightly in the 11th hour for the day. Seems approps for the vacation! The chicken sandwich was seasoned nicely with jerk rib and grilled topped with a grilled pineapple and pepper jack cheese, we also ordered a lighter entree so we could split also. I really enjoyed the nuance of the cumin seeds that adorned the pasta however if I could suggest putting a little more hydration into it because it was a bit dry. The bread they give you with certain dishes is really good. The sliders tasted good but aren't anything special. The cream cheese with the smoked salmon platter is very fluffy. The fries aren't anything special, could use salt or some other seasoning. The gorgeous, shaded open air patio offered lots of seating without over crowding. We were able to be seated immediately. The menu offered a variety of unique cocktails and dinner choices. The house made Rose Sangria was refreshing and absolutely amazing! The Thai Spring Rolls were perfectly crispy and loaded with flavor! For the main course, the Shrimp and Grits were to die for!! There are two downsides to Cafe Karibo; slow meal service (getting waited on us no problem, but food is slow), and the noise level. The first, well, good food is worth the wait. The second can be challenging if you sit inside, so sit outside and enjoy the company of your table mates. The good covers the spectrum from vegan to carnivore and is one of the few places where everyone can find something they'll enjoy. As a vegetarian, I expect rabbit food at restaurants. At CK I have multiple options like a portabella mushroom sandwich to die for, a veggie burger with a spicy twist, incredible salads, and the best potato salad I've ever had. While I had the French toast with the chicken sausage, having never had chicken sausage I was blown away. I liked Cafe Karibo so much, I visited two days in a row. First, the food. The first day I ordered the Loaded Lentil salad. I'd never had lentils in a salad before, but I like salad and I like lentils, so I gave it a go, and I'm glad I did. It was a cold salad, but the lentils were cooked very well. There wasn't too much feta on the salad so I just got a bite of it now and then; the saltiness of the feta worked well since the lentils, chickpeas, and cucumbers are very mild. The vinaigrette and toasted walnuts added more flavor. I typically hate wallets or almonds or whatever in my salads, but there were very few walnuts and honestly, they were freaking delicious. Good call there. The second day was my last day of vacation on the island, so I went in: 2 appetizers, a drink, and an entree. The first appetizer was the soup of the day: sweet potato corn chowder. I ordered a cup and felt $5.99 was a bit much for a small portion, but this soup packed quite a punch. I tasted a hint of curry, I think, and there was a touch of heat (spicy) at the end in the back of my throat. I may not have really noticed it if I wasn't paying attn so I could write a Yelp review about it. It came out piping hot but wasn't very steamy, so of course I burned my tongue not once, but twice. My first bite was so good, I made the same silly mistake twice and went in for my 2nd bite too soon. I don't regret it! I also got the con queso dip. I was expecting something with a big flavor and a bit of heat, but it was actually a very mild flavor and no heat at all. The green onion on the top added a nice bite to it, though. It was good, but I probably wouldn't get it again. I prefer the spicy, more flavorful queso. My entree was the curry chicken wrap. It could have used a tad more moisture (mayo, I'm guessing?), but other than that it was honestly perfect. It has a papaya salsa in the spinach wrap which adds sweetness to it, but it's still very much a savory dish. The chicken had a smooth texture, so it wasn't huge chunks of chicken; they shredded it well. It comes with a side of potato salad that is very good. A little peppery, fresh....some kind of seafood flavoring in it, if I had to guess. Very good. Now, the experience. The first day started out sketchy: I came in around 3:30 and the manager didn't give the best greeting or instructions (I was a first time visitor). He clearly looked frustrated with something that had started before I arrived and that he was dealing with. After I seated myself in the bar area, the bartender came to my table, gave me a menu and promptly got me a drink. After about 10-15 minutes, she came back to ask, "Has he come over here yet?" He hadn't, so she apologized and took my order. She was very pleasant and honestly saved the evening. It was a bit awkward in the room at first. There was one other table occupied with a couple, and in the corner the manager and another member of the staff were arguing pretty loudly; we could hear everything clearly, even over the music (they play great music in here, btw; very nice vibe). It definitely was something customers shouldn't have been hearing, but neither one seemed to care about that. A few minutes later, the manager finally came over to apologized. The rest of the evening was smooth from there. By the end of the night, he'd apologized about 2-3 times. I had no issues at all with the service the second day I went. The manager remembered me from the day before and welcomed me back. He had a pleasant disposition and my experience was wonderful. Also, the waitress didn't give me any shameful looks when I ordered 2 apps and 1 entree for 1 person lol I ordered it with a to-go container and filled it with half the food but still, she gets a gold star! read more

Nice place just off of main street. There is an outdoor seating area but this was a cool evening in December so we ate by the bar inside. A very interesting menu with lots of choices but we ended up with a small plate of Thai Noodles for a start. Slightly hot and very good. Next I had a crab cake that was served with some big strips of Brie cheese that was interesting and worth it. My wife had a Caesar Salad that was also better than average.
