My mom and sister had relentlessly recommended that I check out this little spot while I was visiting. I took a day to explore the city, and my lunch stop had already been picked out for me! Now I will be honest that I was underwhelmed at the very first sight of the cafe. It wasn't super glitzy and glamorous. I thought, sometimes the best spots are just hidden gems in a big city, and this is absolutely one of them! I got a chicken Caesar roll up (wrap) with some chips to eat. That was pretty damn good. I'm so glad it didn't come with tomatoes, as I hate them. But it was a huge, fat wrap with tons of chicken and a healthy amount of dressing. I really enjoyed it, and it was extremely filling. Now, the piece de resistance, the smoothie. I had heard that these smoothies were legendary (well just legends since they are vegan and dropped the dairy). They absolutely were. W. O. W. I got the Summer Berry smoothie after looking at the menu for much too long. It was so packed with every berry flavor I could think of and it was perfectly sippable! Came in super tired and dragging my tail a bit on a Wednesday morning. The two women behind the counter perked up as soon as I walked in to ask how they could help me. They were delightful and sincere AND made me the best cappuccino - I ordered a croissant and they were all "let's toast it for you so you have a good day". They also bragged about the owners homemade banana bread and the yogurt parfaits, so I went ahead and got those too! I left with such a smile on my face, and came right back on my way out of the city for another. Ya know, one awesome interaction can really set the tone for the day, and these two women nailed it. Really nice people and great breakfast sandwiches. This is the only place I know where I can get a breakfast sandwich made with a sweet Portuguese roll. The combination of salty bacon, egg, and cheese on a sweet soft roll is amazing and satisfies the taste buds. Not a huge fan of their coffee but they do have a cooler stocked with many varieties of juices, energy drinks I believe and soda. They also offer lunch and soups but I have never had a meal other than breakfast here. They also offer pastries and possibly bagels. read more

Although It doesn't look like much Cafe La France is a great spot for breakfast or lunch. Their breakfast sandwiches are the best in Rhode Island, and cheaper than Dunkin Donuts! Also their Iced Coffee is fantastic as well *same brand as Sip and Dip for you South Coasties* my favorite flavor is the blueberry cobbler. I stopped by this cafe after walking around for about an hour trying to figure out what to have for lunch. I was having a hard time deciding whether to spend a lot of money for a fancy sandwich or to go junky for a little bit of money. Cafe la France ended up being a happy medium between the two. From the outside it doesn't look so nice, and it's not that much better on the inside, but I do like to chalkboard with the menu and the friendliness of the staff. I got a chicken salad sandwich on toasted french bread. The bread was good, the chicken salad was from willow tree - you can't go wrong there, and the sandwich came with a choice of sides (pasta salad, potato salad, or a bag of chips) and a can of soda or bottle of water. All of this for only 5.50. I didn't expect much, but was definitely pleasantly surprised. They have a pretty good selection of sandwiches and are open to having you make your own. If you're looking for a reasonably priced but good lunch, I would definitely check out cafe la france. read more

Prepare to have a beret wearing mime hold the door open and greet you to this wonderful land, where the French mingle and the bustiers tickle. Ordered a blueberry cobbler iced coffee, LARGE, because I ball hard, and ordered a sandwich that was like a thanksgiving one with homemade stuffing/cranberry sauce. Sandwich was very tiny for the price, with a tiny cup of potato salad, but delicious, and the coffee was amazing tasting. I still was a little hungry and more poor than I wanted to be after; But what are cha' gonna do? Came here for a quick breakfast because it was early morning and the only other available choice was Dunkin Donuts. "It's good because it's open." Not sure what the French association is supposed to be, here. I was hoping they might have specialty pastries or something like that but it's pretty much your standard hole in the wall sandwich shop. I had a chai latte which tasted like what you'd get at Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks (like a melted pumpkin pie ala mode - super sweet and flavored with nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla, but no cardamom as with traditional masala chai). Also had a croissant because, well, you know. Wasn't like a usual French croissant (buttery, flaky), was more bland and bread-like, with a yeasty flavor which I actually quite liked but might not be to most people's expectations. Since I discovered this place yesterday (it being a block away from the office), a coworker and I have become veritable haunts. For starters, their breakfast sandwiches are excellent, and a great deal, too ($4 for egg and cheese on a bagel and a medium iced). The coffee is great as well. Then, if you stop by again for lunch, you can get an excellent deal on a sandwich on a fresh French roll with a side. The service is always friendly and quick. This has became my favorite place to get breakfast from! They offer a variety of coffee flavors that are brew with the coffee.
