Today, April 7th, the Cafe La France at the Providence train station opened in its new space. A larger space, very bright, roomy with lots of seating and a larger counter for ordering and admiring the pastry choices they have. Elizabeth, the manager is always ready to help out and her team is very efficient and good about making everything good and prompt. Conveniently located inside the train station. Some items are quite pricey, but others are reasonable. Overall food and drink quality are good. Hot coffee pots are right outside of the serving and cashier counter on an independent platform so I guess it means coffees are free refill. read more

looking forward to the construction being finished because this has a lot of potential. i love when prov feels like a town and having our one baby train station and one baby cafe is part of that aesthetic. i pretty much always get a great staff member behind the counter. i don't really have a go to but whenever i order a breakfast sandwich, i appreciate the option of adding any of their lunch meats (like turkey) instead of a breakfast meat for the same price. vibes. read more

I didn't purchase any food but I did purchase a train ticket and a cup of coffee. One of the counter ladies is very rude here she is short heavy set with glasses. It's Thursday 8/28/25 3:16pm so the management will be well aware of who I am talking about. She was not the nicest person when you try to get service from her. I was getting my discount card she was very obnoxious in saying all you had to do was tell me you had one. Normally they request to see it so if the policy has changed it should be posted. I heard the intercom saying final call and when I asked will I make it she said who knows it's going to take me awhile I have to go way back there which is a simple walk into the kitchen areas and you can clearly see it in my pics. After missing my train I came back up to purchase my coffee I encountered another counter person who was totally opposite of my first counter person. This is a really great little sandwich shop (not a fancy sit down but perfect for more of a grab and go scenario, though there has been decent seating in the past, but it's now under renovations.) All sandwiches made to order. Wide variety of hot and cold sandwiches. Fun old rock and roll music plays in the cafe area. And there are other tasty snacks and coffee and a wide range of beverages. I actually look forward to getting my food and an iced coffee for the train from the Amtrak Providence station any time it's open!!! (The space is under construction now but the cafe is still operating and I hear it will be a bigger and better cafe space when it's reopened!) read more

We were heading to NYC and the new Moynihan Train Hall, departing from the Providence Amtrak Station, and looking for some nourishment. There is only one place to dine in the Providence Station, fortunately Café La France is a very good spot to grab some breakfast sandwiches. We ordered two breakfast sandwiches, which are build to order, letting you select the type of bread, protein, etc.: * Egg, Cheese, & Ham Sandwich served on an English Muffin (bread choices may be limited due to availability). $5.79 * Egg & Cheese served on Ciabatta (bread choices may be limited due to availability). $5.79 The sandwiches were substantial, hot and tasty. We thought the Ciabatta was a better choice than the muffin. A 4-star rating, as they are inside Providence Station. We would be happy to dine here anytime we're using the station. read more

I grabbed a sandwich and an Americano before hopping on the Amtrak train. I had about 30 minutes before my train back, so I sat at one of the tables inside of the café. The sandwich (The Carnival) was good and pretty quality for what I paid. The line also moved quickly (there were a lot of customers) and the staff behind the counter and register were all friendly. First, it is located inside the train station. I would not recommend sitting down to eat as there are a whole lot of interesting folks around you. The breakfast sandwiches are all microwaved. The eggs are rubbery and not even close to fresh. The sausage egg and cheese was borderline inedible. Go elsewhere. read more

Love the service here and the menu options. The Carmen Miranda is by far my favorite! I highly recommend it and the other summer drink flavors. The staff is nice and helpful when making recommendations. It's located right in the train station which is convenient if you work in the city. I have had coffee a few times at Cafe La France and my aunt has taken food out as well. The coffee was flavorful and the sandwiches hearty. But the one outstanding aspect of this small restaurant is how friendly each of the staff acts towards customers. It is how a cafe should be run! Being in the train station, prices are of course a little bit expensive but for travelers, it is a convenient and clean place to recharge before of after a train ride! read more

This place is a hidden gem in Providence. You wouldn't expect a great cafe to be in the train station, but this is a winner. UPDATE - We ate there again - wanting to eat outside (due to Delta variant - last time it was raining). The staff said we could eat outside - so, we went out and put up the umbrella. We noticed that the chairs were locked. We went back inside and the lead person said that she would not unlock their chairs. Additionally, she was not wearing a mask - and preparing food. There isn't a lot of good that can be said about the pandemic. I will say that among all the hardship and difficulty, a rare bright spot was when my boyfriend and I would order Cafe LaFrance breakfast sandwiches and cold brew as a preamble to settling into another day of Netflix and attempts to work at home. Their egg, cheese and sausage on an English muffin is literally perfect and just hits the spot really well. The cold brew is potent and flavorful. The delivery would always come within 20 minutes of ordering on grubhub as well. I tried the Mayan breakfast sandwich and that was okay. I ordered it for delivery and I don't think it travels well nor does it lend itself well to a bagel, which I opted for in lieu of the tomato basil wrap on which it's usually made. However, their original sandwiches slap. I'll always be grateful for those little moments of respite provided by Cafe LaFrance. It made a very strange time just a shade better. read more

The staff here make this cute little cafe in the train station special. I eat breakfast and grab lunch to go here every morning on my way into Boston and am always greeted with a smile and great conversation while my food is being made. Music selection adds to the atmosphere! The food is fresh, the sandwich selection and ingredients make me happy, and their hot chocolate is top notch. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I hear other patrons commenting on the quality of the coffee. The customer rewards program for sandwiches and hot drinks are also amazing. They're very generous! Absolutely miserable older woman with short white hair will be giving you the worst service of your life. The opposite of hospitality. Get your coffee before you go to the train station ladies and gentlemen. I asked for a packet of sugar and the woman working said " we're not open yet. No you can't have sugar, that's for paying customers. we run a business not a charity." Unreal defensiveness about a packer of sugar. I didn't even bother waiting until they were upended to buy a pastry. This is the last person I would want representing a business or handling anything anything I'm consuming. read more

The service was mid at best. We ordered a latte with oat milk and they called it but said almond and I accidentally went to get it and woman at the register yelled at it was for someone else but it was for me. Then she eventually took it back and told the dude that she swore we said almond like hello. I got a cali grilled cheese. It was good except for the fact that all the bacon was bunched in the middle. read more

It would be nice to be able to give them a full review but unfortunately I cannot. I was visiting Providence and traveling by train. When I was taking my train home I planned to get myself a sandwich and a coffee from here for my ride. I checked the hours online before I went to make sure they'd be open. Hours on their site day they're open until 6. But I got there only to find the place dark with a sign that says they close at 2. I know a lot of businesses have changed their hours due to Covid but if that's the case then update your listed hours online. I had a 5 1/2 hour train ride that went from 4 pm - 9:30. By the time I got there and realized they were closed I didn't have time to go elsewhere. So it would have been nice to know ahead of time that their hours had changed. read more

I've got to say, dozens and dozens of sandwiches later, these workers here deserve high-5s for super quick, accurate and efficient service. My office mates order here very frequently and buying sandwiches from here has been painless for a big group. It's hard to find quick serve restaurants that will cater on short notice and still serve edible food ON TIME for lunch in PVD, and the train station location does a good job. The only thing I can find fault with here is the coffee, which is a hard pass for me but at least there's lots of other drink options to choose from. 4 stars overall bumped up to 5 stars for being kind enough to offer a buy-10-get-1-free loyalty punch card. This place was way better than I expected for being at a train station! Was it perfect? No, but it's probably the best train station food I've ever eaten. I wasn't planning on going here but found myself pressed for time and in need of a bagel sandwich before my train departed. They were able to make it for me with no issues and it was on par with other bagel shops in the area. Nothing fancy but a totally solid option. They have plenty of choices for drinks, pastries, etc. so it's easy to grab something you can eat on the train. read more

Basic cafe located in Providence Train Station. Staff is pretty friendly and fast. The music they play however is ridiculously loud for such a small place. Only disappointment is that they aren't open for the 1st train departures which is a missed opportunity for the early commuters. read more
