Every year I order my birthday cake from here, previously was a Tres Leches cake, and this year a German Chocolate cake - both were amazing! This year though, we decided to stop in for lunch before grabbing the cake - and while it was a little chaotic since we weren't sure what to do (on the food / cafeteria line side) now that we know you can just order and skip to the next part (thanks to another customer who helped us) we now know what to expect. It is always busy here, but worth it for either lunch or the bakery! The staff was nice for the most part, of course there was a rather unpleasant girl working the build your own sandwich spot - the rest were nice. The cafeteria side was nice and bright with seating on two floors and the bakery side is a little darker/more intimate feeling. Parking is street parking, and usually hard to find (we got lucky this last time). read more

Cafe Latte has a very different vibe at different times of day. It's open until 10 and lately I've been there several times recently on weeknights and it's just about perfect. I've been there at lunch and the line is long and customers are grumpy. But nobody will be grumpy if you buy an entire cheesecake for a party. Do it. Good for groups Food is quite good, I like the soups always Cheesecakes are amazing, servings are large Wine It's not awkward if you are part of a group and don't order anything. There is a lot of seating. Take your group upstairs. Take your date to the back room/wine bar. Put your mom in the booths by the hall and then carry her food for her, obv. I've thought about this, and I actually think this place is priced ok. If you're on a budget, just try to resist eating your entire dessert and think of it as 2 servings. It's probably 3 servings. read more

The scones were delicious & my grandniece loved the coffee! My sister bought truffles & they were amazing! Counter service so it's hard to know how it would be if they were super busy but we were there right before the front (lunch) counter opened. The only thing is, I'm Not a huge fan of places where I can't tell what to do to get waited on:( So, probably not going to dine-in. read more

Absolutely the best tres leches cake on earth. I'm not usually a fan of cakes but this one is made to perfection - it's not too sweet and has the balance of creaminess and moistness to a pinch. I'd almost recommend getting the whole cake every time. We also had the cheesecake which was very yummy, it's on the lighter side and doesn't have the graham cracker crust as you'd expect but it still works with the fluffy texture. Then lastly the lemon cake was probably my least favorite, it was still delicious but flavor wise the other two just beat this one. Always try to make a stop at cafe latte if you're in the area. read more

Love the side of their cakes and variety. The chocolate one is very rich but good at the same time. You will love the area as there are lots of shops near by, and who doesnt always have room for desserts and wine?? One of the great spot for first date! A Saint Paul staple for dessert! My top two must haves are the tres leche cake and chocolate buttercream cupcakes. Don't let me dictate what to get because in all honesty, there is not a bad dessert option out there. If you choose to dine in for regular food, do be aware it is cafeteria style serving so there are no servers. They have the best soups in town and my other recommendation is the chicken caeser noodle salad. There is an upstairs for extra seating it you find it's full and an entire other section that serves wood fired pizzas and wine. Grand Avenue as a whole doesn't disappoint so come here and make a day out of your experience. Lots of shopping and other boutique stores in walking distance. Tip: wear your stretch pants and if you are only ordering dessert, walk all the way over to the pizza side to save time on your order. Enjoy! read more

Got slices of the vanilla tres leche and the dark chocolate one. Both were good, but for tres leche... they were a bit dry. I was expecting far more liquid/ milk. They weren't bad, but not for me. That said, I'd be open to trying other things in the future. read more

I have always dreamt of getting a cake from here and my dreams came true! I wanted a cake to celebrate my pinning ceremony for nursing school. I showed up on Friday morning, August 11th, and had WONDERFUL customer service as the lovely lady helped get my cake ready to go. I got the tiramisu tres leche's cake and it was 10/10!! My mom took me out to lunch for my birthday today. We got a turkey sandwich, a bowl of soup with a side salad. The sandwich had only one slice with mayonnaise. The side salad was literally a handful of lettuce with a side of dressing. That was considered a salad. Went to buy a tres leche small party cake for $30. I asked if they could slice it. They said that was an extra $15 charge to slice a 6 inch cake. $15 to make literally two cuts down the cake. $15?! TO SLICE A CAKE! I sliced this myself with a knife from the silverware bucket. Btw, it was MY birthday. He asked if I wanted a bag. I said, "Does that also cost extra?" This cafe is overpriced. Where do they get off charging $15 to make two cuts into a small cake? read more

Was on the way to dinner and stopped by to pick up some dessert. This place is quite large inside with so much to offer, from sandwiches to all types of desserts you can imagine. There's seating all around and they do do a nice business; you can be assured anything you choose is going to be fresh. We decided on a Raspberry Cream Torte and that was the perfect choice. The cake was done really fresh with so many layers of cake, cream, raspberry cream and a nice layer of raspberry something on the top. There are so many choices here to make that one visit is never enough because the choices are countless. Definitely bring a friend with you so you can try more than just one thing. read more

Stopped in for a light lunch at cafe Lattes pizza bar. It was such a wonderful time. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. I absolutely loved the Sampler platter, very light and refreshing. Cannot recommend Cafe Latte enough. They somehow make salads and soup something that I crave. I got the craisin wild rice salad and the Tuscan white bean soup. The soup is probably my all time favorite soup. The rosemary is just delicious and not too overpowering. I love the creaminess that the white bean adds without the dairy. Don't forget to grab your warm bread roll and slather it with butter! The salad was also so filling and had a great mix of grain, sweet, and crunchy. I didn't get any cake this time but you will have to try the tres leche and turtle cake if this is your first time. I loved going during lunch. There is plenty of seating and the line goes by super fast (although the line goes by fast even when it is busy!). read more

Cafe Latte is a St. Paul staple - and for good reason. Their desserts are out of this world. As someone who is gluten free, I rarely have the chance to indulge in desserts like chocolate cake or cheesecake. At Cafe Latte they have a few gluten free options for me! Their cheesecake in particular is out of this world, it comes with your choice of a homemade Berry compote or caramel sauce. Pro tip - ask for both. While one (albeit huge) slice will set you back about $7, it's worth it to treat yourself. My husband who is not gluten free loves the dulce de ledge cake and the turtle chocolate cake. Besides desserts they have a ton of sandwiches, soups, and salads that a fresh and delicious. Worth the trip to Grand Avenue in St. Paul for sure! read more

Cafe Latte is one of my all time favorite places for dessert in the twin cities. They have delicious Tres Leche, cheesecake, and German chocolate cake. I'm not even a bit chocolate cake fan but I would eat theirs in a heartbeat!!! I've tried almost every dessert they have but still have more to try. Haven't been disappointed by one yet. I like that they have a lot of nut-free desserts - we have a friend who is allergic so we get cakes for him from here ! Besides the dessert, they have all sorts of bread which is seriously delicious. Don't pass up on the bread. I'll buy a bunch and end up eating some for breakfast at home with some scrambled eggs and it's perfection. Not only that, but they have delicious salads and soups in their deli section. You can make a salad a la carte or you can do what I do and pick from their specials. I've loved each and every one! Their souls are also delicious. My favorite so far has been the Seattle lobster soup as seen below. Don't pass this place up if you're in St. Paul! read more

I ordered through yelp a tres leches cake for special occasion. I picked up at the cake counter and off we went. The tres leches cake is to die for! I cannot rave enough about this. It's not too sweet and it's super light. I love how they added the raspberry around the top. Whenever I'm in town, I stop by to order a slice or pick up a whole cake. Highly recommended! One thing I was bummed about is they do not have Truffle pate anymore. the manager said it was discontinued about 10 years ago. I guess I haven't been back that long ago. read more

If you like to eat sweets than you know that Cafe Latte is an institution on the Twin Cities food scene. To be honest, Cafe Latte is an amazing concept and the Twin Cities need more like it. Cafe Latte is an amazing eatery, serving soups, sandwiches, pizza, and of course dessert. Their cakes are beyond amazing. I personally do not like my cakes to be overly sugary sweet. You will not find the likes of a marble frost cake like the ones at Costco here. All their cakes are phenomenal. My favorite by far, as is with so many people, is the Tres Leche. Rich, creamy, and amazingly moist. Come spend time here with a few pieces of cake and a cup or two of coffee. You will enjoy your time, as many Twin Cities residents do. Also, their is a pretty good list of local artists that comes perform on the weekends. I've seen several live shows here and can't enjoy the atmosphere more. read more

Wow! Visiting the Twin Cities once again this spring and café latte is always on the list when we need a special dessert. The blueberry tart was out of this world. Crust so buttery delicious, plentiful wild blueberries, and not too sweet! This kept our taste buds wanting for more and there sure was plenty in this 10 inch tart. We also tried the double layer chocolate cake with chocolate fudge filling and what appeared to be raspberry buttercream which was also not too sweet and delicately delicious. read more

I LOVE CAFE LATTE! But only the desserts that is- really just the cakes. I've been going to this family owned cafe literally my whole life because of the pricey but delicious cakes! The food though is definitely hmmm just okay- a bit pricey, small portions, just your average American food (salads, soups, pastas, pizza, etc.) and not really full of much flavors. I also feel the same way about the drinks- they look amazing but a bit on the watery size for me sometimes for the mochas. the breads or baked goods are also super yummy! 5/5 for the cakes but because of the blah food and drinks, I am taking away one star. Tip- As for PARKING, there is a lot kitty corner from cafe latte behind Bread and Chocolate or Chipotle that you can PARK FOR FREE. It can get a bit busy/full if you come during busy hours but I have always found a parking. Otherwise- you may get lucky and find street parking. If you must try something JUST GET A SLICE OF CAKE! They have fruity flavors to chocolate flavors, sweet to tarty flavors! My go to is the beautiful tres leches because it is sweet, moist, and I love the tartness from the fresh raspberries on top. The classic vanilla cheesecake with the strawberry on top is also amazing! But the one that surprised me the most is the carrot cake! As someone who doesnt care for carrot cake, I learned to fall in love with Cafe Latte's carrot cake because of it's super light cream cheese frosting, moist cake with mini pineapple cubes, and airy sponge. The cute cupcakes on the other hand is kind of like the food- just okay, it is sometimes dry so the cake slices are way better. I always come here when I want to spoil myself- sometimes it's 2-3 times a week! Tip- there is extra seating upstairs on the 2nd floor or on the side. However, for folks trying to study or catch up on work- this is not the ideal spot unless you like a lot of background noise. I don't think there is free WiFi either. read more

We celebrated my nieces 18th Birthday this weekend with a Lemon Blueberry cheesecake from Cafe Latte. It tasted even better then it looked and I thought it was quite pretty! My brother lives in Otsego so he literally drove 45 minutes away to pickup. (What we won't do for our kids) Well I can't thank him enough as it was heavenly! I think the entire cake weighed maybe 8 lbs if not more, nice and dense and real lemon flavors. I did buy my daughters 21st birthday cake from here but don't really remember it being it was like 15 years ago. GREAT find! read more

This was the perfect spot to end our girls night. The service is counter service and they had 3 registers open. The lines moved quick. The desserts were sweet, but not overpowering. They had a good selection of wines and a few beers. We went on a Saturday night about 8pm. The crowd was mostly young professionals on date night or friends meeting up in smaller groups. The best tres leche I've had!! So moist and delicious and the frosting is amazing, coming from someone who isn't a huge frosting lover! I've had their German chocolate cake as well and cheesecake which were just as good. They have sandwiches and salads available as well for a meal, but I think their desserts are the bigger hit. Located right on grand Ave near other great restaurants. It's a nice place to hang with friends or get some work done. Very spaced out and lots of seating available. Always try to stop by when I visit! read more

I've been going to Cafe Lahdeedah, as my suburban sisters call it, since they opened. When I lived in St. Paul it was the go-to for ladies' lunch or afternoon Caffee und Kuchen. I miss it now that I am on the East Coast: Cafe Latte has better cakes, better bread, a nice casual but classy dining room. But... ...I still stop in when I am visiting back home, but the good-old same-old hasn't kept up. When they opened, Midwestern tastes were so different from what they are now that they asked if you wanted the salsa in the chicken salsa chili or on the side! The rich coffee and chocolately chocolate desserts were out there. Now when I go looking for something 'lish, I end up with dessert, maybe a cup of under-seasoned soup, and the sandwich spread sampler (which is still good). Bread there is wonderful; scones good (though getting coffee cakey the past few years). The salads that were once cutting edge now seem underseasoned. The staff who were always attentive now seem slightly resentful; like college kids hoping no one from home sees them working at a service job. I've called to order cakes for local pick up, and have gotten attitude from the person on the phone - I've done this for many years, and until recently always was treated like a member of the family (and not the black sheep of same). The owners ought to respond to constructive criticism about staff and the line and cashiers. People who love the place bother to tell them. I know the owner used to say to critics, "every one criticizes us, but everyone imitates us." Well, times and people have changed. People who don't love it just go to some of the emerging alternatives. Raspberry cream torte and lemon torte are world's best. Current Scones still good, but getting a little puffy. I recently had the Caesar salad and it was a complete disappointment. Not only was it ridiculously expensive, but the dressing tasted sour and had an odd aftertaste that made me feel like I had eaten something spoiled. To make matters worse, the portion size of the sandwich I ordered was laughably small. I felt like I had been cheated out of my money, as I ended up paying a premium for a meal that was not even filling. I've been back three times in the past few weeks, and the customer service has shown a remarkable improvement - consistently friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. I love the decor of this place. It's a cafeteria style type of restaurant. You stand in line and go down down the lane and pay at the end. There are numerous items to choose from including soups, salads and sandwiches. I arrived with a group of five people and it was easy finding a table. There are three different spots you can start your order. Even if it looks chaotic, don't stray away. They always take care of their customers. Every single time I come here I get a piece of chocolate cake (they're soft and always huge!) and a latte. Their sandwiches are good. The variety of those and salads/pasta salads is quite surprising. The turtle cake at cafe latte is a must try! All slided cakes are $4 per slice and each slice is huge. If they slice it for you, each slice is $7.50. Their desserts are amazing and they have pizza, salads and soups. Customer service is quick and the staff are friendly. There's plenty of seating and a nice bar area. My friends got the Bacon Egg and Cheese Breakfast Sandwich, and the special Guajillo Eggs Benedict both of which were also quite satisfying.
