Took a ton of baked good to go and loved the breakfast burrito and chilaquiles. First class all the way! The cheese bun and pineapple empanadas are the truth.

Wow! What a fantastic bakery! They have so many fresh, delicious Mexican pastries at low prices. The person at the front was super friendly. This bakery exemplifies the best of a small, family-owned business. Definitely worth checking out.

Cute little bakery on Lyndale ave! It's very obscure, but it's such a gem. The person at the counter asked if it's our first time and they gave a little tour of the cafe! They are also a good person to ask if it's your first time trying Mexican pastries! Overall, it's very affordable and good amount of seatings too.

A HUGE selection of authentic Mexican sweet breads

This weekend, we tried this viral local Mexican cafe on Lyndale for incredibly affordable and comforting Mexican sweet breads. The aroma of fresh baked bread fills this tiny cafe as an extensive collection of pastries is continuously stocked from the kitchen oven. We tried numerous pastries, as well as one of their three sandwich offerings. The chicken sandwich was made with fresh ingredients in their fluffy in-house bread, with jalapeños for a rather fiery kick. For the price of USD 1.5-2, you can find a buttery empanada, an airy Concha with a sweet Vanilla shell for the perfect crackle, or even a tender bread roll stuffed with chicken and zesty jalapeños. While we did find their sponge cake and flaky pastries to be a little dry, this place definitely gives value for money with their authentic Mexican breads.

I am so glad a Mexican pastry shop opened up a few blocks from me. Welcome to the neighborhood! First off, let me say that some of these reviews show that people aren't educated about Mexican pastry tradition. These pastries are made with lard and are, indeed, made to be dry. You are supposed to eat them with coffee or milk. If you want a moister pastry, ask the people working which are their pastries with a higher moisture content. Hopefully that helps you have a better experience. However, in general, yes, these pastries are drier (and it's not a mistake). Customer service here is great. I know a lot of the Mexican pastries but they were really helpful and told me about all of them. They are more than willing to help guide you. Service is great! I ordered a strawberry empanada, which was delicious! I also ordered the breakfast burrito because it was 1:30 and I hadn't eaten yet. It was spendy (I don't think anymore expensive than everything else is right now) but it was worth it! Burrito was made fresh to order. Walked it home and it was still piping hot! Came with a salsa on the side. It is also a generous size, it's not a small burrito. Highly recommend visiting Papa Chuy's. I'll definitely be going back to try out more of the pastries and find my favorite!

Glad this place opened up close by. Husband and I have walked here multiple times and we will be back to try the yummy looking French toast.

I live in Oregon. My bestie and her daughter moved from here to Minneapolis area awhile back. I wanted her to have a Mil Hojas cake for her birthday since I can't be there with her to celebrate. Found Papa Chuy's here on Yelp a few days ago. . I called them and asked if they could make her one and deliver it to her two days later. They were so helpful and accommodating. It was not a close-by delivery for them. It probably took them 30-50 minutes each direction, but they didn't hesitate and sent me photo confirmation upon delivery. Made the whole process extremely easy. Great communication and service all throughout. My friend got her cake today and Mil Hojas is her favorite. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thank you Papa Chuy's! You'd better believe I'll be calling again to order.

The food was super good, very quiet atmosphere. I am a Spanish speaker so it was easy to communicate with everyone. The concha was super soft and not dry on the inside. Sandwiches were great too!

I would give it over 5 stars if I could, very good food!! People working were very kind and welcoming.

My friend got the cool ranch wrap and chips and queso. I got the cool ranch wings. Their chips and queso is very good although I could do without the onions and jalapeño on top. The wings were alright. I wasn't really getting that cool ranch flavor and it tasted more just like your standard dry rub. I wasn't a fan of the ranch itself. My friend didn't care for her wrap as it was cold and she felt that the chicken was actually raw/undercooked. She also didn't get any cool ranch flavor come through: Not sure if I'd recommend this place or need to come back but I have had their quesadillas which were good and I did like their queso.

We went at night, so the space was not as cute as in the day. Florescent lighting and was very cold because of all the windows everywhere, but I really liked the art on the wall of "make tacos, not walls." I was a little worried when I looked at the menu because there weren't many written vegetarian options (was gonna just get rice and beans), but was able to get a vegetarian quesadilla, so I assume that many of their options can be made veggie, if you ask. Food came out relatively quickly and they brought lots of salsa too, which was perfect because I almost always have to ask for more salsa at most places. The quesadilla was so good. The cheese they used was divine and so melty! Good combo of veggies in it too (peppers and onions and more that I can't remember right now oops). I also got the oreo cheesecake, which was DIVINE. I always forget how much I like cheesecake and this one was tastier than most. I loved the crunchy oreos too to add a little texture. Will definitely be coming again to try different things. But once the order was in, everything turned around fast. The service was smooth, friendly, and the food came out quicker than I expected. And that shrimp burrito? Unreal. The tortilla was warm and perfectly toasted, the sauce had that rich, savory kick that makes you pause mid‑bite, and the shrimp... there were so many I genuinely lost count. No filler, no fluff--just pure shrimp glory from start to finish. If you're anywhere near Minneapolis and even remotely into shrimp, get yourself to El Sazón. That burrito deserves its own fan club.

I'm fancy, so I wanted something a bit more upscale. I did a little bit of research and wouldn't you know it... Colita came up. So here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set south of downtown and a bit west of The Mall of America on Penn Avenue is this gem. There is no private parking lot, but plenty of street parking to leave your fly ride. But once you walk up to the restaurant you can immediately understand the message they're trying to send. Everything looks so modern, straightforward with straight lines, grey colors and light woods. There is a small outdoor section where you can dine if you get lucky enough to land a spot there. Inside carries a very similar style with a little nod to the pueblos and architecture of the southwest. The decor is minimalistic and the "loudest" thing in the room is the live plant wall seated directly behind the bar, which was super cool. Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but we had no issues whatsoever. Food/Drink: I was able to try so many different dishes and drinks here and the list is below... : Xochitl In Love : La Clandestina : Tuna Tostada : Chicken Tinga Tostada : Seared Scallops : Tlayuda : Colita Old Fashioned : Lamb Barbacoa Tacos : Duck Tamal However, my favorite things were the Lamb Barbacoa Tacos, Duck Tamal and Seared Scallops, in that order. The food here is phenomenal, the drinks are excellently crafted and things are served tapas style so you don't get too full off of just one thing! Order a whole bunch of stuff and share with the table! Value: As I mentioned earlier, I wanted upscale and the priced dddooo reflect that. Lol. This is a nice place so be prepared to spend... Like you're downtown somewhere. In conclusion, I loved this place and I will come back over and over. Check this place out the next time you're in the area!
