I'm a fan of their cafe in the Castro, so was pleased to see one pop up near downtown offices. Not as big a variety with more savory offerings, but I guess that's good for the lunch crowd. Guanciale Quiche: Buttery crust and rich egg center. Though I didn't taste much of guanciale, it didn't seem overwhelmingly porky. Came with some little salad, which is a good pairing since the slightly bitter arugula cuts the richness. Bologna Sandwich: I love mortadella, it's just bougie bologna. This was such a simple sandwich, but delicious! Fresh fluffy focaccia, thinly sliced mortadella, some umami packed sundried tomatoes and really creamy ricotta spread. It was rich and delicious, such an upgrade from bologna on Wonder Bread with mustard. Prosciutto Crudo Burrata and Arugula Cornetto: This looked really good. Flaky croissant-like cornetto. Runny white burrata. Lots of thinly sliced prosciutto. I didn't even mind the arugula since the bitterness played well against the richness of everything else. Only thing is that even though it tastes great, it's not very filling. Pizza Margherita: It felt a bit undercooked. The bread was a bit too doughy. The cheese was only partially melted. And this was after a reheat. Spicy Salame Pizza: I liked the salami, it was the fancy Italian kind. Definitely added more sophistication to this pizza than regular topics. Nice sauce. And the bread on this was cooked properly. Cannoli: The cheese filing seemed too runny. This actually caused the cannoli shell to shatter on a bite, since the inside didn't offer much structural reinforcement. So it became a mess to eat. Still tasty and I did like the candied orange peel. But needlessly difficult. Peanut Mousse: A bit pricey at $11 (+tax) for something kinda small. But it's not just cute, it tastes delicious. Crispy-ish shell, peanut butter cream, some soft sponge cake and then a nice peanut butter caramel-like center. Such a brilliant combo of flavors and textures. Tiramisu: A classic. Though not as runny/soggy as some tiramisu. Some pieces of the lady fingers were actually a big crunchy. read more

I go by this place on my commute to work every day and hadn't realized what I was missing! This spot is a bit hidden along Market near the Montgomery Street, but down the stairs to feel removed from the business of the street. They had a wide selection of pastries and drinks and we were quite delighted by them. I ended up getting a pastry with a vanilla custard filling that was quite yummy. The perfect amount of fluffiness. My girlfriend got a prosciutto sandwich and thought it was great. The service here was also great, with the employee helping me decide on a pastry. I was most impressed by the chai latte I got. Most cafes feel like the same overly sweet chai concentrate, while this one tasted much better and I got to pick my sweetness level. I came to pick up some pastry for my team in the morning and their selection was vast. Everything seems to be baked and made from the back, and the ambience was comfortable. The service was a little tricky since I wanted everything but I can't recall all the names by the time I got to the end of sales line. It would be nice to have someone at the beginning to box my order then they hand off to the register. Otherwise the staff were nice and friendly. I love this is so open and accessible via Montgomery Bart on Exit 2! It's a great vibe as it's below street level so it feels secure and protected. I like the view starting from the window seeing the skyscrapers. I enjoy the amiable service and delicious egg bacon tomato cornetto and the perfect chai latte light sweet I ordered. The tomatoes in the croissant is perfect and the seasoned egg. Well with the $10.50 . I would come back love the open space for a Lunch or brunch. Have you ever wander around the city and ran into something new you least expected ? It happened to me when I was walking around in the financial district in San Francisco, California , USA. I often make it a need to make a pit stop to try a new place immediately as if they will no longer exist just because it could be a short term opportunity like a new pop up in SF for a limited time only. This place has bake goods that are flakey in SF. It's located at One Post Plaza and it's called Poesia. On a Winter stroll on intersection on Market street in between Montgomery and New Montgomery street there is an Italian bakery which serves focaccia and sandwiches along with espresso. Inside is a spacious electric space which has some seating available for working and yapping. I had to try the corneto vanilla and custard croissant. It was creamy but so flakey like some in SF. The croissant was also tasty and not too sweet. They also have the honeys like in the honey hazelnut . The jalapeño triple cheese pastry seems like their popular pastry which is flakey in SF. This is a good spot if you are on the way to the BART or Muni at the Montgomery station in San Francisco or just wandering around downtown San Francisco. Matcha is not good. It's not good with sweetener either. My standards can be high because I like Marukyu Koyamaen Unkaku, but the matcha from Amazon for $14 is also tolerable with honey. The matcha at Poesia is worse. Please find a new brand and return the one you have back to Costco. I know you're an Italian bakery and coffee shop, so matcha may not be your specialty, but bulk matcha should only be for baking. Blue Bottle is currently my favorite matcha in the area. Croissant - probably needs a reheat or bake. Maybe because I bought it at the end of the day, but it wasn't crispy. Maybe I should've asked for a rebake/toast? I toasted it when I got home and my kiddo inhaled it. There was one other pastry I'm interested to try - the pistachio with apricot in the center, but I think some of their bakers experiment because I haven't seen it when I've been back to check. read more

I work nearby and I was literally wishing that there were more bakeries nearby and next thing I knew it, I watched a video about this café over the weekend and I finally remembered to stop by today! The café is spacious! And I was so overwhelmed by all of the options available. I asked the staff if they had a favorite and they said their favorite was the Cornetto Pistacchio so that's what I got plus an iced latte and my total came out to about $15. The pastry was delicious but I probably shouldn't have eaten something this sweet this early in the morning. Will definitely be stopping by again to try other pastries! Came on a weekday right before it was closed so there wasn't much left but I got the poppy seed muffin and pistachio cookie - poppy seed muffin 6/10, it was not vey moist, flavor was alright - pistachio cookie 8/10, pretty crunchy, generous with the pistachio, the more I ate the cookie, the more I enjoyed it, but it was around $7. I felt like it was a tad bit pricy for a cookie that was standard size. I ate this one a bit too fast, forgot a photo haha I would recommend come trying this place out, pretty convenient location (right outside the Montgomery station). Look - I know a croissant has to be flakey perfection if crumbs are falling out of the bag before I take the pastry out. That's exactly what happened with my almond croissant ($6). It was flakey goodness with a hint of sweetness from the almond filling. The croissant is bread forward which I prefer because anyone can make a filling. It takes an artist to perfect the bake. I have not had the prosciutto and brie croissant yet but it honestly looks almost too beautiful to eat. It was a little pricier, around $10.50, but I'm sure it'll toast up nicely and go down tasty. Last but not least, I had to round out my order with a large cold brew ($6.50). I would say it did not stand out as far as coffee goes but I had to have something to wash down the baked goods. It is a little pricey for the size but overall a solid option if you're in a pinch. This is a new place but the service seemed experience and the place was very clean. I saw their Instagram post about their soft opening and thought I'd pass by. It's conveniently located right outside the Montgomery bart station. I went around 7:30am and it was pretty quiet. It looked like the staff were still setting up. The pasteries all looked incredible. I saw fresh baked items in the back on racks waiting for hungry customers. I opted for the Cornetto Nutella / Nutella croissant for $5.50. I devoured the croissant. The outer layer has a nice flaky crunch with a soft fluffy inside. My only recommendation is to more evenly spread the Nutella. The ends of the croissant don't have any Nutella and the middle has extra. Can't wait for them to fully open. read more

I first visited Poesia Café (Stockton St , SF) when it opened and gave it 4 stars with a few minor suggestions. They took the feedback seriously, made thoughtful improvements, and now it's easily one of the best cafés in San Francisco. The staff is knowledgeable and welcoming, and the menu keeps surprising me. The chicken sandwich with guanciale is outstanding, the maritozzo is perfect, the "plain" cornetto is anything but plain (and yes... better than a French croissant... my French friends will not like this lol), and the tiramisu is a must. Their cortado is the best I've had in the city. After years of wishing for a great café in my neighborhood, Poesia Café has become my daily go‑to. I bring friends, clients, anyone who visits. Cute little bakery that's connect to Montgomery Bart exit. Coming up the stairs, you'll see a sign where the door is. I visited after their first week and there was a good amount of customers. Service is friendly and warm in the early morning. I ordered my croissant (they had a lot of varieties!) and a cafe latte. The croissant and flaky and the jam inside was very artisanal. It's nice to see something new in this space because it's been vacant for so long. I was looking forward to trying it because I commute through Montgomery station daily and work nearby. The space is beautiful with a lot of seating. Service was quick because I was the only customer in line. All the pastries look amazing. The main downside for me was the price. A small cold brew and a danish was $15, pre-tip (the cold brew was $5.50 and the danish was $9). I've lived in SF for 20+ years and am pretty tolerant of SF prices, but this seemed high given what nearby high-end bakeries and coffee shops charge. Both items were decent but not super special. I've been here twice now. Both times I was ravenously hungry. On my first visit, I tried their lentil potato soup, which I loved. I have some dietary restrictions, and many versions of lentil soup contain ingredients I can't eat. This one is vegan (in fact, they told me that all of their soups are vegan) and doesn't have any of my triggers. It's a generous portion and the soup came with crunchy, peppery croutons. It stayed on my mind for days afterwards! Downtown again and with low blood sugar, I came back today thinking of that soup and was really happy to see it on the menu board even though it's quite warm in SF. This time I asked if I could have bread on the side, and I was given a lightly toasted slice of crusty deliciousness drizzled with olive oil. Their counter staff are SO nice and helpful and seem well informed about the food they serve, which is always a good sign. The dining space is clean and roomy, and the bathrooms were well kept up. New Poesia cafe just open at 1 post st right when you get off the Montgomery bart station and up the escalator. They have another location on 18th st and Castro. Small and cozy cafe with very nice service. They have very yummy pastries. A bit pricey but for the area and quality bake goods it's pretty norm nowadays. I definitely recommend this place. I haven't tried their sandwiches yet but will in the future. As for the pastries, it is a yes for me unless I'm on a budget yet it's worth it when I'm not lol. read more

Me and my friend went to this cafe from my friend's recommendation hoping to get a Maritozzo. Upon arrival there were no maritozzo displayed at the counter so we asked one of the guy who worked as a cashier and finally the chef brought a box full of them out for us. We were so glad and bought two pieces each. We were so excited so we took some photos outside the cafe while the chef proudly came out to talk to us. He was so nice and you could see how happy he was from his eyes. The Roman maritozzo itself was so good. I was surprised that it took couple hours for us to come home and the cream was still puffy and looked exactly the same while not being refrigerated. This is a good dessert for sharing and if you are a whipped cream lover, you must try it. Overall, I would be back to sit in the cafe because it looks so nice. Also it is very convenient because you can just grab and go then go down for a muni transportation. read more

I ate here with a friend for the first time this week and I must say , I was expecting higher quality food. I had the veggie pizza and all the veggies on the pizza aside from the peppers were completely charred. They were sliced too thin and they obviously burned in the oven. I also did not really like the spicy tomato sauce. In all a pretty poor burned tasting pizza. My friend had the salmon quiche and while the egg custard was quite dry, the dough around was undercooked. The crust is visibly too thick for a quiche. So, both options were disappointing and you don't expect such basic mistakes with this price tag. I know the croissants are good, so I might be back for one of those. read more
