Cafe Maji has quickly become one of my favorite cafes to study! I first visited Cafe Maji a few years back. I came in expecting the same vibe as most other cafes, but the mismatched furniture and table placement struck me as odd and threw me off. I didn't come back for some time. Recently, however, I've been needing places to study and have SO ENJOYED coming here! Cafe Maji is open later than most other cafes in the area. The vibe is calm and very study-oriented - LOTS of folks needing to study come here although there are also a few groups that come in to play games and catch up. They have an interestingly lengthy menu of different drink options, from tea and coffee, to mochas and slushies and frosties, to lemonades! My partner and I also really love the snacks they offer. French fries have been a staple for us to munch on, but the croffle was also a yummy treat! And we love seeing the tteokbokki whenever someone orders it. A few things to note: - Most tables against the wall and near the register will have outlets, but the middle tables will not - Some of the seats are comfier than others - You can reserve the back corner tables! - You will not be able to eat outside food and drinks (water is ok!) This place is super cute and the exact definition of mom-and-pop shop, except this shop is all pop, no ma. I feel bad for the owner as he's the ONLY guy there making EVERYTHING. Literally from cashier to busting tables and probably even all janitorial and electrical problems. But sincerely appreciate how hard he works. The hours are only from afternoon till night. I can't imagine how bad it gets as the hours run late. The drinks are massive but quality are of powders. Completely understandable but I have the same taro powder at home. But the little bear face foam is adorable. The teas come with two bags to steep and a generous mug. Feels so good cupping it during cold hands season. The quesadilla was ok. There's a LOT of cheese. Like the kind you'd get griddled from your high school girlfriend's parents house where her mom goes handfuls of cheese at a time in between tortilla blankets. The liege waffle was the only reason I came here. And it was probably the best item on their menu. It comes with your choice of ice cream and topping flavor. Probably still one of the better liege waffles around, short of going to Belgium. Expect a wait before you get your food. Give the guy a break and don't come starving. read more

Spacious cafe, lots of tables and different types of chairs, and outlets around the walls. Perfect place for studying esp late night. It does get busy since lots of students are studying. Wide selection of tea, coffee, and food. However it is pricy (drinks range $6-8, food is $11-14). I can tell it's a one man show but he seems to be holding the fort pretty well. Super friendly and seems to be familiar with a lot of the customers. He cleans the table after a person leaves. Id return for the drinks or maybe the curly fries. tteokbokki with fish cake was 6/10, I would rather get this some place else that's likely the same price but tastier. The owner(?) went to send a drink to a table and dropped the menu in front of me and said "Buy something before study" They force you to buy something to actually sit here and study. Well within his right to refuse service, seemingly the owner, but when the drinks are overpriced, it's a bit hard to want to spend money. Café Maji is like an Internet Café from back in the days. Just nowadays everybody brings their own laptop. You can find many Students here working on assignments or chilling. The café has a big selection of teas and coffees including some organic varieties. I did not try any of the big selection of food varieties as I just came from dinner. My boyfriend and I stopped here after getting ice cream next door to grab some coffees and use the bathroom. The service I felt was rushed and frankly impolite. My boyfriend wanted a cortado (half espresso, half steamed milk) and we were told "this isn't a Starbucks." I've never been spoken to this way from a small business owner and it wasn't until we paid and got our drinks that I realized how rude that was to say. We aren't coffee snobs, and a cortado isn't a Starbucks exclusive drink. The ambiance is exactly how I remembered with plastic folding chairs & tables, YouTube "chill vibe" music, and cheap decorations on the walls. We paid $15 for an espresso and a latte, so on top of a bad interaction and ugly decor, it was also overpriced. read more

I'd come back just for the latte art haha It's a wide open space with lots of tables and chairs that make it feel homey -- if that makes any sense. It feels very intimate like I'm in someone's cozy living room. The bathrooms are well kept, the overall volume of the shop is low, and everything is clean. Decorations are minimal, but suuuuper cute because there are dozens of anime/pop culture figures on the wall, like from BT21, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Demon Slayer. Came here last Friday night around 10:30pm with a large group of 10 friends. The atmosphere was lively (75% occupied) and it seemed like a lot of young folks come here to hang out. It was too loud to study, but it was Friday night so probably the wrong time. The decor was cute: mismatched tables and chairs, with cartoon figurines shelved on the white walls. The place was pretty clean too, as far as I could tell. There was one older employee working alone when we came, so props to him. More people came after our group so he definitely was kept busy, haha. He seemed friendly but also tired - very understandable. 5/5 for service and ambiance. The menu is extensive, with dozens of teas, coffees, desserts, and savory items. I opted for an iced Almond Roca latte, since it's one of my favorite candies and I was curious how the flavor would be captured in a drink. Alas, it didn't remind me of almond or toffee, but it was tasty and full of coffee flavor. I would rebrand and all would be well. It cost $6.25 which is steep, especially for me as a non-coffee enthusiast who only drinks it a few times a year, but the cup itself is pretty large. Also since you're supporting a small business using quality coffee beans, I think that deserves to be factored into the prices as well. My friend got a vanilla berry tea and table consensus was that it was like nicely scented water, ouch :( My other friend got a line mojito and claimed he could do better at home, double ouch. However, another friend got a cookies and creme drink and said the drink totally reminded him of it's namesake, so not all hope is lost! Also, all of our drinks were served in to-go containers rather than the cute cafe mugs posted here on Yelp. Again, the one employee was slammed though, so maybe that's why. A table of friends near ours got a croffle topped with ice cream and it looked pretty. Maybe not worthy of $12 but if you were on a date I think it'd be a nice splurge. I think the cafe suffers from a quantity vs quality issue. It's cool to have lots of fun drinks, but if they can't deliver, then the disappointment will prevent customers from returning. Based on my experience I would consider mentioning this place as a study spot for people regularly in the area, but wouldn't recommend someone to go out of their way to come here, or for friends to come here on a night out. For my drink alone I'd give 4/5 stars for the cafe but given my friends' drinks and the overall prices of the food, I have to knock down my rating to 3.5/5. Yelp doesn't allow half star reviews and I don't think it was a 4 star performance, so ultimately, 3/5 stars. read more

In the morning it's less busy but still a great place, at night is when the students start coming in so be aware of that. It's not the cafe it used to be. Decided to drop by after seeing that they reopened under new management and with new hours (now opened late)! A bit disappointed to find everything really bare as well as a limited menu. Essentially it was just a white room with tables and chairs scattered around. Really miss all the cutesy decor, tableware, and menu that they were previously known for! The same ambiance and personality just isn't there anymore. Drinks and small desserts are just ok. Nothing too special. They're very short staffed with what looked like a one person team. It seems like the pandemic really hit them hard, but they're working hard to rebuild themselves! I was eating at Cho Dang across the street, and a friend had recommended Cafe Maji for boba. Coincidentally, I found Cafe Maji across the street from Cho Dang and popped by for a visit. The menu was rather extensive, and the interior was interesting. Cafe Maji has a variety of milk teas, slushies, smoothies, coffees, etc. to select from. I ordered an amaretto (apricot and almond) latte since I like almonds, and apricot would have added a nice tang. For what it's worth, I found the size to be disappointingly small compared to the size of the straw. I would rather have paid an extra dollar to get a large - if possible. It also tasted pretty "watered down" for a latte, and the taste of apricot and almond were only hints, with neither flavor being too present. The interior design is also interesting. None of the tables and chairs are a matching set, which made me feel a little nervous. I did enjoy the spacious environment and could see how this could be a nice place to study. I wish the Wi-Fi would have been written somewhere or on the receipt rather than having to ask. Other than that, I also really enjoyed the wooden shelves that presented a variety of chibi anime figurines. read more

Huge kudos to the one man who was doing everything that day! We went in at around 5pm and it was pretty quiet at first, with just a couple of people studying there before the dinner rush happened. We ordered a shrimp tomato pasta and carbonara ttukbokki (savory rice cakes) for dinner. The carbonara ttukbokki was subtle in the loveliest way, and not overly salty. The storerunner told us he was out of bacon and used sausages instead and it was still really good. I'm definitely more of a cream sauce person so the tomato shrimp pasta tasted the same to me as any tomato pasta would LOL. For dessert we tried an originally Croffle and a brownie Croffle (croissant waffle). The croffles were so much better than I'd imagined. The texture was the perfect balance of crunchy exterior and soft, doughy interior. The brownie croffle came with brownie bites and a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream and was only a dollar more than the plain croffle so I definitely recommend that one. The only drink I tried was the marshmallow mocha iced latte, which was so delicious because it wasn't sickeningly sweet as the name suggests. It was a great balance of chocolate and coffee, although you don't taste the marshmallows since they just sit at the top. There was definitely something else in there that was quite sweet, which I'm guessing is some other form of marshmallow. Overall, I love the homey atmosphere here and the fact that it's fairly quiet, so it's a good place to chill, study, read a book, etc. Customer service is top-notch. Parking isn't too difficult but the plaza it's located in is kind of easy to miss so keep a sharp eye out. read more

We ordered 2 drinks and a slice of tiramisu and we're pretty satisfied with them Drink 1: White Peach Green Tea 4/5 Very refreshing drink. I am usually a tea person and found this drink to be really good :) while my boyfriend said it was really sweet, I thought it was the perfect blend, just a little less herb-y than I thought. Drink 2: Horchata Cinnamon Latte (cold) 5/5 This seemed like the perfect fall drink, and it was! The cinnamon wasn't too overpowering, and it tasted like horchata. My boyfriend enjoyed it! It was a little on the sweeter side for me though. Tiramisu 3.5 Tasted more like a chocolate cake that wanted to be coffee! It was good overall, but not what we were expecting. Slice was huge though! So I'm glad I shared it with my boyfriend. However, we both agreed it was sweet and not enough coffee-like. Service was good, there was only one guy working but he was sweet! I also enjoyed the ambiance, they had piano music in the background which was really relaxing. It is a little spacious but there were many tables to choose from. In my opinion, one of the better places to study at. The only downside is that they were out of waffles :( Overall, a nice study place to come to! Came here late at night for some desserts but their kitchen was closed so we just ordered drinks. I got the hot strawberry matcha latte and the hubby got a pomegranate lemonade. I was really surprised how good the strawberry matcha was since not a lot of places can really bring out the strawberry flavor without it tasting artificial. But this drink was really good and it had the perfect balance of matcha with strawberry flavor. The pomegranate lemonade was a bit too sweet but very refreshing with a slight citrus taste. The Korean man that singlehandedly runs the place is truly the best, he is always so friendly and welcoming. What's truly impressive is how he manages everything--taking orders, making drinks, and somehow still delivering the most personal and attentive service you'll find anywhere. Even when it gets busy, he handles it all seamlessly, making sure everyone feels taken care of. It's rare to find someone so dedicated and passionate about what they do, and it's clear he pours that energy into every cup he serves. He always remembers to give me water after a few hours and even gives me treats for free such as cream puffs and fries. In terms of the place itself, its absolutely a gem. The decor is super cute, almost like a Japanese cafe. There are so many tables spread across this cafe, along with a plethora of outlets which really come in handy. The place is always impeccably clean and the bathroom is very well kept as well. The fast wifi is also a huge plus. The food and drinks are also wonderful, my go to order is usually a strawberry lemonade (which the staff member always remembers). Their desserts are especially amazing and super aesthetic with huge portion sizes. In all, I highly recommend to anyone looking for great coffee with even better hospitality. If you're in the area, definitely give Cafe Maji a visit--it's not just a cafe, it's a local gem. I've tried out so many different cafes and coffee shops but I still keep coming back here. This is a strange place, they have mismatched furniture everywhere but that may be the style they are going for but it doesn't work if the furniture is worn and uncomfortable to sit in. The service is you walk up to the counter to order and you pick up your order and clean it up. The strangest thing was that many of the items in the menu were not actually available, so you need to constantly pivot. The drinks themselves were not memorable at all. Due to covid they're using all takeout containers even for dine-in, which is a shame for the amount of plastic waste and compromise on aesthetics. Taste wise, the food is good! I got the original Maji ddukbokki and the sauce is SO good, like a carbonara-kimchi sauce. I added it to my Turkey club panini for extra flavor. Also got the croffles which were a fun crispy treat. The drinks are good as well, too bad they aren't served in the usual cute cups (but hopefully soon!) Totally adorable "cafe" that has the feel of a neighborhood coffee shop with better goodies on the menu. There are -so many flavors- of coffees/lattes, hot or cold and shakes. If you were blown away by the whole cronut craze way back then, you must try to "croffle"- croissant- waffle. It is out of this world and it is HUGE! It's crunchy, sticky sweet on the outside and soft and warm in the middle. It's a total orgasm in your mouth. There are sooo many to choose from. I love this place and I will go here once a week until I try everything on their menu! The service was amazing too! read more

This cafe has food and drinks that are overpriced and mediocre at best. We came in on a Sunday night planning to just stay for an hour or two, and after we ordered and paid, we were told a few minutes later that we have to order more for our party of 4 (who ordered 2 drinks) to stay at the cafe. We looked around at the other tables and saw that more than half had less than 1 drink per person. When I asked him how much more he said at least 3/4 of us had to order a drink. He returned to our table later and told us the "unofficial rule" is that everyone has to order something. If this is the rule, I wish that he would have told us before we ordered our first two drinks so we could go somewhere else. It felt like we were being bullied into spending money here. If the food and drinks were at least good I would have honestly already ordered more to begin with, but I wasn't feeling like drinking an entire overpriced watered down coffee late in the evening. You may come here thinking that you don't care about the quality and just want to study, but their wifi often doesn't even work anymore or is too slow because there are too many people for the low quality, slow wifi they buy. I thought they had changed the wifi password because it wasn't working for all four of us, but the password was the same it just didn't work. This is definitely not the same cafe maji that got all these high ratings. The cute decor is all gone, the service is awful, the food and drinks quality has gone downhill; it seems the only thing they are focused on is maximizing profits because each time I've been here since opening there is only one worker who is always rushing around to the point he can't even take our order. I would recommend going to another cafe, like Stirred in Cerritos or Summerfield in Garden Grove. read more
