Nothing about the outside tells you anything. Just a door. Easy to miss, easy to walk past. We almost did. Glad we did not. Inside it's a whole thing. Long hallway, people scattered at tables, and then you take a left and suddenly there's this room with round study tables and dividers that give each spot just enough space without making it feel like a library cubicle. Actually it kind of does feel like a library. One room does anyway. Another room goes full cafeteria. The furniture doesn't exactly match and I don't know what the overall vibe is supposed to be but it works. It just works. We went in the middle of the day. Busy but quiet in that way where the energy is there but nobody is performing. If you want a table you need a reservation. Good to know going in. We kept it simple. French fries, carrot cake, milk tea for me and a Korean coffee for Fadi. The carrot cake was legitimately great. The menu has a lot more going on than our choices reflect. I looks like they do some Italian things, among other stuff. I am pretty sure I saw carbonara on the menu so yea, we barely scratched the surface. Forgot to check if it's open late night but if it is, what a great spot for late night studying. There's just something about it that makes you want to share it; not post it, share it, like actually grab a friend and walk them through the door so they can have the experience themselves. This place is great for studying and getting work done. They have free parking as well which is unheard of in ktown. Our party reserved a private room to get some work done. It was very quiet and convenient for us. They also have a large selection of drinks and mains you can order. I ended up getting the turkey wrap for $17.99. Its really moody and calm environment, lots of seating both inside and out with nooks to hide in. Staff was attentive, helpful, and friendly. I had the earl grey tea pie and it was delicious, that the cream on top paired perfectly with the cake which was moist and rich but not too sweet. The milk tea I got with it complimented it well. Parking was not ideal, I ended up parking around the corner and walking... and that was a Friday afternoon, so keep that in mind when visiting. read more

Really cute cafe! The location had nice dim lighting, open seating both inside and outside and the servers were really sweet. I had ordered their katsu plate and had originally forgot the rice that came with my plate because they were busy, but they were quick to get it out to me when I went to ask. Early birthday lunch with dear coworkers. I always like the ambiance, the eclectic decor & the historic feeling building of this cafe. Friendly service & we liked they had the bell on the table since the restaurant was large with certain areas difficult to see with walls. There were a lot of people with their laptops - working, studying, etc. Their food is OK but the sweet potato cake was very good. We come for the atmosphere & the friendly service. Stopped by here after dinner for dessert and some tea/wine and the vibes were very chill. It was pretty packed with students studying inside since they have nice study areas throughout the cafe. We found a spot outside so as not to disturb the students studying indoors! The service was fine and it didn't take long to get our tiramisu and drinks. I am not able to edit my original review so here goes my latest experience and update: Cafe Mak for me represents a cozy place to spend time. I'm not necessarily here for the taste of the drinks, which are good enough, but not stellar. The location affords me the opportunity to spend time with friends who live nearby in a nice environment. The service has been amazing! Such a great concept for an Internet cafe that is super spacious! I ordered their strawberry-banana juice which was more like an all natural smoothie and an Arnold Palmer. Both drinks were super delicious and refreshing! I got the spaghetti with chicken and it was just as described. They aren't stingy with the serving sizes either. I will gladly be back many times as long as the standard stays the same. read more

You have access to free WiFi, and power outlets to charge your devices and other supporting electronics. This place open doors to a huge space with plenty of seating and lounge areas. You will also feel like you're at home because the ambiance setting gives a home like cozy feel. The staff were helpful and sweet and it was my first time here. Not a lot of places are open at night for a casual sitdown chat place but Cafe Mak is open. They have a very narrow one-car driveaway to go through to the parking lot in the back. They stop taking orders for food around 9pm or 10pm. Drinks and food are mediocre. It doesn't seem like the desserts are made in house. read more

I've frequented here for many years, specifically because it's a great place to bring people do various things: study (free wifi), chat (plenty of seating), or play board games (free to use, albeit a little dusty). The ambiance is unique with lots of bookshelves and antique items. The drink menu is quite expensive but sufficient-- I personally love the chronic out of everything which is coke and espresso (try it!) and getting the sweet potato cake with it. read more

Visited this place with a friend a couple days ago. She said she saw this from TikTok! It was initially difficult to find where it was and the parking. We got there at 4:45pm and was able to park in their "additional" parking lot right down the street which opens at 5pm. Anytime before that you could park in a separate lot. First impression going in, it was a hidden gem for sure. There were two entrances but it stays true to the "cafe" experience. You find a seat first then a server will come take your order. Be weary though, people use this as a study spot more and it might be hard to find a spot to sit. Luckily there are plenty of seats outside as well. Depending on the time you come it, there should be plenty of seating. The menu was truly amazing, having an Asian fusion of delicacies. Prices are high but you pay for the quality! If you order a "Mains" dish, you get 30% off your drink! We chose the Beef Griddle Udon, which included a nice serving of vegetables mixed in a light sauce coating. The Kimchi Carbonara was full of sauce and my friend enjoyed it a lot. Would definitely recommend to come here again in the future. read more

The food is okay. Both tiramisu and chocolate cake tasted like I could've purchased them at Costco It seems to be a very popular spot for local college kids to study at! There are a lot of large tables and outlets if you plan on coming with friends. however i would not bring my friends here Our server was really nice and sweet so shout out to him! Food and drinks are good. It's a perfect place to hang out catch up or study. I like this place I plan to come back! I would add a * of maybe bring your own hotspot. The WiFi is GARBAGE. I've been getting kicked off,connection issues. They ask people not to hog the WiFi but I think it still happens which makes it harder on the people just trying to get their emails to load up. Just be forewarned about lack of connectivity if you plan to spend the day studying here on your devices. read more

I really wanted to like this place. It seemed like a great study spot, especially with a printer available for customers, but the Wi-Fi was spotty and there's a strict three-hour time limit. On the plus side, there are outlets at the tables, the music is low, and it's quiet enough for calls. I tried the Korean coffee, which was extremely sweet. The café uses a push-button service system, so staff don't interrupt you unless called--though they will let you know when your time is up. My biggest gripe was the temperature: despite a sign saying to keep the doors closed for the AC, it was uncomfortably hot, with only ceiling fans circulating warm air. read more

I've been going here for over a decade. It's sad that they still allow outdoor smoking in the balcony - it's clearly been illegal to have any kind of smoking in any outdoor space since 2011. Idk if management and staff allow it or turn a blind eye to it, but it's unacceptable that so many of their customers are smoking cigarettes (not even just vapes) outside and exposing others to toxic secondhand smoke. I have asthma and sensitive lungs, and there were two tables surrounding me smoking a storm. I'm back home and lungs still hurt. Will be reporting to city LADBS. read more

The crumbs on top felt a bit dry but the sweet potato filling inside was creamy. Lots of tables to do work or chill and also free parking! Loyal Customer Since 2015 I've been a loyal customer at Mak since around 2015-2016. This place has been part of my journey through high school, college, and now adulthood -- which is why I'm truly disappointed by my recent experience. During my last visit, the waiter's tone and attitude were surprisingly dismissive. When my friend and I used the call button to request a menu, she told us we "didn't need to use it" and could "just go to the front to ask for one." In nearly 10 years of coming here, no staff member has ever spoken to us that way. It was clear she didn't want to take our order or engage with us, which left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. I didn't catch her name, but this experience honestly makes me hesitant to return -- something I never thought I'd say after so many great years at Mak. I truly hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses it promptly. read more

One thing I've got to say this place is that there is a lot of seating area if you're looking for a place to study at. The ambiance provides the perfect mood for studying with its homey feeling with warm lights. I ordered the black sesame latte with onion rings. Both in which were delicious and was able to get a lot of my studying done. One thing I would recommend though is the lower the speaker volume as the music was too loud at some points. My friend and I come to this cafe a lot to study. I absolutely love the interior and how kitschy it is. It's like you're inside of a little restaurant at the Venetian in Las Vegas lol. Every time I come I have to order the strawberry matcha. I don't know what they put in it but it's one of the best ones I've had. This time I decided to try the kimchi carbonara and I was so shocked on how good it was. First, the presentation was beautiful. The little garlic bread it came with was perfectly seasoned and buttery, and it had a surprising bit of sweetness added to it! The pasta was perfectly creamy and was packed with a lot of vegetables and kimchi. I came here after dinner so didn't have any of the main dishes on the menu, so this review is just for the drinks and snacks. I had a black sesame latte, and it was very overwhelming. The latte is over saturated with black sesame - there was just not enough milk to dissolve all of the sesame - that I could taste the texture of the sesame seeds. This made the consistency of the drink rather unpleasant. Because it was so oversaturated, the drink was borderline bitter. About half way through the drink, the consistency was better. It became less saturated because the ratio of black sesame to milk became more even and it lost its bitter taste. I've had smoother, more balanced black sesame lattes at other places, so I don't think I'd get this one again if I were to come back. I also had a loose leaf green tea, and the tea was just served in a paper cup, which was not what I was expecting. I was expecting actual tea leaves and a pot of hot water and an empty cup, but instead it was just diluted tea water that barely had any taste. There was no way to verify if actual loose tea leaves were used because for all I know, they could have just used tea bags in the back. I also got the black sesame tofu chips, and they were honestly just like tortilla chips with a tiny hint of sesame flavor. They didn't really stand out. I think with a dipping sauce it could have worked better but I'm not sure if that was the intent there. Overall, my impression is that the drinks are rather questionable. But I'd be willing to try some of their main dishes sometime in the future if I ever stumble upon this place again. read more
