The chicken breast is not only perfectly crunchy and seasoned but it is way bigger than the bun. I joke saying that the bun is a handle for the chicken breast. The spices go great with the sweet Asian slaw. The fries are also very good- perfect crisp. The spot is small. There is only a counter on the wall to eat. Came to Daybird for lunch on Saturday to try their fish sandwich after seeing it all over TikTok for forever now. As a fan of the filet o fish, I was excited to try an elevated fish sandwich of similar design. The restaurant is a hot chicken place, but the fish sandwich remains on the menu even though it doesn't appear on the website or physical wall menu. The parking situation was a breeze, with loads of underground parking under the building. This was already a huge relief considering the typical experience when dining in LA. The restaurant was close to empty. I opted for the sandwich without caviar ($20), the addition of which would have added $60 to the price. I also got an order of fries. The sandwich was made right away and fried fresh. The fish stood out as incredibly large for a sandwich, and had a thick and very crispy batter. I wasn't aware that their fish can come seasoned like how they do their chicken, and the cashier recommended me mild which is what I did. The flavor of the mild seasoning was light but added a satisfying heat. The crunch was very good on the fish, and the tartar sauce was very flavorful and clearly high quality and made in-house. I will say that considering the size of the fish, the cheese gets somewhat lost flavor wise. The only other complaint I had was that the fish had a slightly fishy aroma even while frying, and the taste came through in the sandwich as well. It wasn't enough to ruin the taste or the texture much, but I'm sure the fish I had that day wasn't the most fresh. I could actually see how the caviar might fit into the sandwich flavor-wise, but for $60 I think it's definitely nowhere near necessary. If you like fish sandwiches, I'd say give it a shot. We ordered via DoorDash, which for an order for one person, I do not recommend; even w/ a corp account, this place wasn't part of DashPass and the overall fees add up; thusly, I would only order via DoorDash if you're doing it for multiple people and the fee prices can be negated. However, if you live/work locally, I'd suggest it as I'd eat here again. It's a higher quality fast service, but served w class and quality. It's nothing too different from other marketplace offerings, but it has a good flavor unto itself. In my opinion, they have the best Sichuan chicken sandwich; however, it is on the pricier side at $16 for the sandwich alone, without fries. I also tried the hot cod sandwich for $20, and the fish was fresh and packed with flavor, though I still prefer the chicken sandwich. The chicken is moist and juicy and the szechuan seasoning is flavorful. I wish they were open longer, as their hours are limited to 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and they are also closed on Tuesdays. I got medium heat which was maybe a tad too much since it drowned out the other flavors. But then again what other flavors? Crunch factor was there. The Asian slaw was interesting due to cilantro and an assortment of thai chilis. But chomping through the half chicken hanging out the bun, I felt it lacked salt or something to bring it all together (mind you I did not order sauce on the side). Parking is sparse here and the intersection is a bit odd but despite this, Daybird is worth the drive down to LA and dealing with the anxiety of parking, praying and hoping the parking gods will be kind to us today. Indeed, it was. If you wanna eat it, expect counter space. It's not fancy and not sure how easy or hard it is to find a space to park yourself inside so you can take a moment to enjoy the deliciousness that Daybird is. Chicken sandwich is solid! But if you're lucky to come when they have their fish sandwiches, geez...you won the lottery. It's the luxurious twin of the filet-o-fish! The cool, crunchy sexy one. Is it worth $20 though? I'm stilk debating this question but worth the $20 to give it a try...not sure I'd spend $20 again for it though. This small shop served the absolute best Chicken Sandwich I have ever had. It's large, tender on the inside, crisp on the outside, and super flavorful from the Szechuan spices and from the fresh slaw of cabbage and peppers. The bun hold up perfectly with this delicious sandwich. The large chicken thigh sticks pretty far out of the bun, so I started by cutting off a few pieces and dipping them in the Daybird Sauce. The creamy and slightly sour sauce was a perfect compliment to the spicy chicken. The chicken tenders were also amazing. They were large, moist, and crispy on the outside. Once again, the Daybird sauce paired perfectly with the Tenders. However, my friend was not at all impressed with the flavor of the barbecue sauce. The big surprise here was the amazing Fish Sandwich! It's an elevated take on a classic fish sandwich that will remind you of the fish sandwiches you ate as a kid at that place with the yellow arches. But, this one is so much better! First, the cod I filet is large and so juicy. But, be warned, it is served piping hot, so let it rest for a minute or two before eating it. The tartar sauce is really special and they make sure you get enough of it. You have the option of having your fish sandwich with or without cheese. Of course, I had cheese on mine. The same bun is used for both the chicken and the fish sandwiches. The shop is small. There is a 15 foot counter you can eat at, but that fills up fast. So, be prepared to eat outside or in your car. The staff here are very pleasant and they are happy to assist you as you order. You order at the front counter and they bring you your food. It's also fun because you can watch the cook prepare your food and everyone else's. I came here because this is Chef Mei Lin's Chicken Shop and I wasn't sure what to expect. Daybird is located in a busy intersection near Koreatown. A rare spot that has a free parking lot and some spaces in front of the store. Wish there was more seats, but it's only a standing bar that can probably comfortably fit 10 people standing. Went with a few friends, so we tried a few of their sandwiches. The Schezhuan hot chicken sando was definitely the best item - juicy chicken, generous coleslaw and fluffy bread. The Daybird sauce is also really yummy. I don't recommend getting the chicken tenders (our mistake for even ordering it in the first place, but we wanted some variety for sharing). Be aware, everything is very spicy here at the medium. Hello Yelpers!! Well I haven't posted anything in a while, but I wanted to say a little something about this place. I trekked my way out to Los Angele after a friend recommended this place, the traffic, the the traffic!!!! I put on my navigator (Waze) and took the trip. It took me a couple of spins around the block to finally find this place despite may navigation telling me I had arrived. If you have never been, Daybird is located in a small and I mean small shopping center in the middle of chaos. There is no sign out spelling out Daybird. Instead you have a neon outline of a chicken head outside the location. It's nestled in next to a very busy barbershop and a spa. I made it and walked in. As soon as you walk in all you see is kitchen. 90 % of the location is kitchen and prep area and 10% is for waiting and stand (counter style) eating. Which there is nothing wrong with that. The smells being produced by this place will have you salivating from the moment you walk in. The menu is very simple and minimal which says a lot about the place. They don't have a multitude of things on the menu and what they do have they make very well. I ordered their chicken sandwich, fish sandwich and fries. The chicken sandwich was spilling out of the bun. I mean the chicken was enough for two buns. Accompanied by a delicious Daybird sauce, slaw and dusting of savory spices. I was in food heaven. I was so out of it I almost forgot about the fish sandwich. The fish sandwich was it's own masterpiece. I can only describe it as a brick of goodness. A 3-4 inch thick piece of golden fried cod seasoned with spices and seasonings. I was done. The fries were seasoned and fried to perfection. I definitely recommend this place. Take that drive. Daybird is in an unassuming little plaza that has 30 minute parking spots on the outdoor level and an underground parking as well so keep an eye out on where you park. Upon entrance, the shop has a spicy smell which led me to order the chicken sando at the mild spice level which I was so glad that I did because even the mild spice had enough heat and I do well with spicy food. Ordered some sauce to put with the sandwiches but ended up not needing any. Just make sure to order fries to pair with the sauce since the sandwiches are best without the extra sauces. The sandwiches are seasoned so well, very flavorful! I know I'll be coming here for often in the future when I crave chicken/fish sandwich.
