We had to come here and try their famous fish sandwich. While it was absolutely delicious, I do feel the fish itself was maybe a tad undercooked or not the best quality. The breading, cheese, tartar sauce, and bun were perfect butthe fish itselt Could've been better. The chicken tenders were a tad dry, the fries were tasty. Service was wonderful, the food was made to order quickly, and the portions are generous. In all a very good meal, but not the best fish sandwich or fried chicken I have had in Los Angeles.
I suppose I'll be hunting for other fish sandwiches in LA. Second time here, 0 for 2 on fish. Today we stopped by around 12:30 (they open at noon)... aaaand they're closed? Open on Google, open on Yelp, no notice on any of these platforms or Instagram unless all they did was post a now-expired story which isn't very helpful. There's some vague post saying something to the effect of: great news, they aren't closing and are opening a new location! Is this instead of the Silver Lake one? In addition to? It takes literally less than a minute for the business owner to change Google business hours to CLOSED--I do this for my workplace--which is significantly less than what potential customers spend driving here. Another guy and his family might've come up from Riverside to a closed door. Hopefully they actually live here and weren't in LA just for this!
Let me start off with how this rating does not reflect the fish sando!! The chicken sandwich coming from a chicken sandwich place, it was not great. Breaded very heavily where my first bite was crunching of the batter. Overall the sandwich was ok... It wasn't that special. It wasn't very juicy either. Now, let me talk about the fish sando.. It was the best fish sando i've ever had in my LIFE. yes, in my life. It was soooo juicy and the tartar sauce really complimented the sandwich. I will come back for the fish sando when i'm back in LA. It was so good!!!

The chicken breast is not only perfectly crunchy and seasoned but it is way bigger than the bun. I joke saying that the bun is a handle for the chicken breast. The spices go great with the sweet Asian slaw. The fries are also very good- perfect crisp. The spot is small. There is only a counter on the wall to eat. Parking is available in the lot as well as their underground parking structure. Service is great. The guys behind the counter were very chill and friendly.
I wasn't in the mood for fried chicken or fish sandwiches, but I'm glad my husband persisted (this one time only lol). I loved it. The chicken Sando was delicious. But the fish sandwich was amazing. My favorite. The fish was excellent but the sauce was the best. It really brought everything together. I want more.

I have been seeing Daybird on Tiktok for years and finally got the chance to try it. Ordered it on UberEATS and it came super quick. Went with the Hot Chicken Sandwich, Fish Sandwich, and some fries. The Hot Chicken Sandwich was delicious. It had an asian twist with what tasted like Sichuan peppers which makes it standout from other places that sell hot chicken. The Fish sandwich was probably the best i've ever had. It's basically a gourmet version of a Filet O Fish in the best way possible. Definitely recommend Daybird!
Came to Daybird for lunch on Saturday to try their fish sandwich after seeing it all over TikTok for forever now. As a fan of the filet o fish, I was excited to try an elevated fish sandwich of similar design. The restaurant is a hot chicken place, but the fish sandwich remains on the menu even though it doesn't appear on the website or physical wall menu. The parking situation was a breeze, with loads of underground parking under the building. This was already a huge relief considering the typical experience when dining in LA. The restaurant was close to empty. I opted for the sandwich without caviar ($20), the addition of which would have added $60 to the price. I also got an order of fries. The sandwich was made right away and fried fresh. The fish stood out as incredibly large for a sandwich, and had a thick and very crispy batter. I wasn't aware that their fish can come seasoned like how they do their chicken, and the cashier recommended me mild which is what I did. The flavor of the mild seasoning was light but added a satisfying heat. The crunch was very good on the fish, and the tartar sauce was very flavorful and clearly high quality and made in-house. I will say that considering the size of the fish, the cheese gets somewhat lost flavor wise. The only other complaint I had was that the fish had a slightly fishy aroma even while frying, and the taste came through in the sandwich as well. It wasn't enough to ruin the taste or the texture much, but I'm sure the fish I had that day wasn't the most fresh. I could actually see how the caviar might fit into the sandwich flavor-wise, but for $60 I think it's definitely nowhere near necessary. If you like fish sandwiches, I'd say give it a shot. I thought it was worth the price/visit.
Small restaurant, definitely more set up to grab and go. Workers were friendly and efficient. Sandos took about 10 minutes from ordering to completion. The chicken was crispy and delicious. The heat level for Hot was pleasantly belly warming. The slaw was crisp and a wonderful accompaniment for the hot chicken.
The sandwiches were fat af. The chicken sandwich was around $16 and fish $20. They were super fresh and crispy. Overall worth trying once around the area.
This place is tiny and easy to miss, as there is only a chicken symbol on the billboard. It feels more like a fast-food joint because there are fewer than four seats, and most customers order to-go. In my opinion, they have the best Sichuan chicken sandwich; however, it is on the pricier side at $16 for the sandwich alone, without fries. I also tried the hot cod sandwich for $20, and the fish was fresh and packed with flavor, though I still prefer the chicken sandwich. The chicken is moist and juicy and the szechuan seasoning is flavorful. I wish they were open longer, as their hours are limited to 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and they are also closed on Tuesdays. If they extended their hours and lowered the price slightly, I would probably get this sandwich weekly. The seasoning in the chicken batter is addictive--I still crave it from time to time.
Their location on Doordash is still titled "Daybird (N Virgil Ave)" but that location is closed. It sill accepted my order and told me to pick it up on Melrose, which is too far for me to make it during my break. Not sure if the owners are lazy, incompetent, or intentionally scamming. There is no phone number to call that location to cancel the order. Will be disputing the charges on my card.

The prices are on the high side and parking is tight. Especially when it's busy. It's tough to get in and out of the parking lot. It's a place where you buy to go rather than stay and eat. There's no where to really sit due to the limited space. If it isn't busy then you can stand at the counter area to eat for a bit. It is delicious though. Must try. If we're in the area we'll be back for the sandwiches again

Bang!!! Your head will explode this place is mind blowing. I'm here on my 494th Diners Drive Inns and Dives visit and I was blown away! First off the place is sleek and cool. Very modern and welcoming. So was the lovely lady behind the counter. The menu is sleek just Chien and fish sandos prepared a handful of ways. They have chicken strips and fries and an additional caviar topping. I wasn't trying that today but to each his own Surprisingly they have special beverages, today I tried the blood orange lemonade, it was a must with the spicy level of the chicken sandwich. Gang! I've had Daybird on my wish list ever since I saw Jenn Harris feature on a YouTube episode of LA Times Food's "What We're Into" a few years back. Last month I finally got the chance when I visited L.A. with my family. We arrived a few minutes before they opened. This was at their original location which recently closed because they are set to open their new location. We were second in line. As noon approached the line started to grow. The wait and anticipation paid off. Daybird lived up to the hype. The chicken sandwich was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The slaw was fresh and refreshing. I ordered it medium heat but it wasn't very spicy. My wife ordered the fish sandwich. I don't think I'll ever have a fish sandwich that good. It was thick and juicy. I'm still thinking about it... about both, really. Service was also great. I wish them well at their new location. I know the next time I'm back in L.A. I will definitely be stopping by. read more

My brother and I came here before the Dodger game. I love friend chicken and I love me a good sandwich. No lie- this is THE BEST fried chicken sandwich and fried cod sandwich I've ever had. My brother has been here before- he got the fried chicken sandwich with medium heat. It was the perfect heat for someone who likes spice. The pickles and potato salad were a delicious relief to the heat. I ordered the mild spiced cod sandwich. It was a good sense of heat- I'm glad I didn't go spicier. The service was friendly and quick. You order at the counter. The chicken and fish were FRIED TO PERFECTION. There's no seating or bathroom inside but you can stand and eat at the counter. I live in San Clemente but this will be my go to spot for when I'm headed to LA for a game. read more
So good. I'm always down for fried chicken. We came here instead of a *popular competitor* because the wait there was crazy long. The parking lot here is small, but we found a spot easily right in front of the door. Minutes later, we already ordered. Our food came out in about 10 minutes and it was piping hot. The interior is simple and there is nowhere to sit, it's more of a to-go spot. There's a counter where you can stand in front of to enjoy your meal. My boyfriend ordered the szechuan chicken sandwich and I just ordered tenders because I wasn't that hungry. Both were nicely seasoned and so tender. I highly recommend this spot to all fried chicken lovers! read more
I saw an Instagram reel claiming this place had the best chicken sandwiches in LA, so I had to try it for myself. The shop is small -- more of a grab-and-go type spot -- but it was clean and organized, with a steady flow of customers picking up food. Service was good and efficient. Nothing particularly notable, but everything ran smoothly, and my order came out pretty quickly. I ordered the Szechuan Hot Chicken Sando and a Hong Kong milk tea. The sandwich was honestly amazing -- crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of heat. Definitely one of the better chicken sandwiches I've had in the area. The milk tea, on the other hand, was pretty standard and not particularly memorable, but it paired well with the food. Overall, I'd definitely come back to try more items on the menu. Hands down the best fish sando I've ever had. It's like the Megan Fox of filet o fish. Soft bun, thick piece of cod, amazing tartar sauce. The slim reaper at the counter was very friendly. I gotta come back for the chicken sando next time. read more
I've been wanting to try this place for so long and finally had a chance to drive to LA. First - parking could be rough. The parking lot is tiny and there is a small underground parking. And the spaces are soooo tight. Do not drive a big car out here. Luckily there is a security guard that helps you find an open space. Food is definitely fast casual. There's a small standing countertop if you want to eat there. It's not air conditioned so not the best place to enjoy your spicy food but it tasted best fresh. The hot cod sando was very good. And they don't skimp on the portion size. It was so hot and fresh. My son enjoyed his 2 piece tender and fries. We both asked for mild and it felt more like medium heat to us. If I ever come back, I'd probably not get any spice. read more
As a fried chicken sandwich connoisseur, I thought this spot was a solid 3.5/5. Adding another .5 stars because my friends did a takeout order and drove 30 minutes before we ate it and the chicken was still nice and crispy. We ordered the Taiwanese style popcorn chicken sandwich and the schezuen style chicken sandwich with 2 fries. I preferred the Taiwanese style although I will say it wasn't as strong in that flavor per se, it was very mild. The chicken is also more on the thin side compared to other fried chicken sandwiches. Absolutely loved the coleslaw with pickled veggies in the schezuen sandwich as well. Overall, I think I'd be back but it wasn't something Id go out the way for. Definitely a nice spot to try due to their unique flavors and twist on chicken sandwich! read more
My friend and I came here before an event to grab a meal. First thing to note, parking lot is a little bit small but there's a downstairs lot that's kind of hidden. Second thing to note, there's barely any seating in here, but there are counters if you don't mind standing with your food. Third thing to note, this place serves extremely super spicy chicken. They offer no spice, mild, hot, extra hot. We ordered mild and it made us cry; way too spicy. Yes, it was delicious, but it was nearly inedible. Their sauces were good. Fries were decent. 4 STARS Daybird serves up some pretty large and juicy Szechuan chicken sandwiches. The sandwich features a Jidori chicken thigh fried in rice bran oil and house-made spicy slaw on a Martin's potato bun. You can choose 5 different spice level options: no heat, mild, medium, hot, or extreme. I went with medium and it had a nice kick, but wasn't overwhelmingly spicy. As chicken sandwiches go, this is a pretty good option. They are $16 per sandwich, which for the size of the sandwich isn't a horribly overpriced sandwich. I got fries on the side and a drink as well. There is a little parking lot in this plaza. Inside of Daybird, there was standing room only on the sides to eat. Other customers come in to pick up and take the sandwiches to go. read more

The fish sandwich was fresh, filling, and had a nice Asian twist with hints of five spice. The Szechuan fried chicken was flavorful, and you could definitely taste the fish sauce in the seasoning. Overall, both dishes were tasty and satisfying! read more
Parking is sparse here and the intersection is a bit odd but despite this, Daybird is worth the drive down to LA and dealing with the anxiety of parking, praying and hoping the parking gods will be kind to us today. Indeed, it was. If you wanna eat it, expect counter space. It's not fancy and not sure how easy or hard it is to find a space to park yourself inside so you can take a moment to enjoy the deliciousness that Daybird is. Chicken sandwich is solid! But if you're lucky to come when they have their fish sandwiches, geez...you won the lottery. It's the luxurious twin of the filet-o-fish! The cool, crunchy sexy one. Is it worth $20 though? I'm stilk debating this question but worth the $20 to give it a try...not sure I'd spend $20 again for it though. Not because it's not good but at $20 a pop and I'm no trust fund baby, my pockets aren't deep enough like that. For the value, 7/10. If you want an absolutely delicious chicken (or fish if available) sandwich and you're willing to separate with $20+, come to Daybird and gamble with the parking gods. But surely, you know the food won't be a gamble. Solid 10/10! read more

I am NOT a Szechuan fan so I never really wanted to give this place a shot but my girlfriend decided to grab some after getting a massage next door and... YALLLLL. Please just go and try it yourself. I'm hooked. Addicted. Thank you for existing lol. Sorry for waiting so damn long haha Hot Szechuan chicken sando- the chicken is crazy juicy and idk how it stays crunchy under all that coleslaw!! The coleslaw was delicious with the fresh and pickled jalapeños Hot tender- the spice on this is my perfect level of spice. I was told these were better than Howlin Ray's and I agree! I only got mild for both the chicken sando and cod sando but could definitely go for spicier next time. It is a bit pricey but worth trying out. Service was quick and friendly. I love how they give out wet towels! The place is very simple with no tables and chairs, just a bar against the wall. read more

This is a massive chicken sandwich that manages to stay neat, from the tightly packed slaw to the double wrapped bun in a self-standing holder. I got medium heat which was maybe a tad too much since it drowned out the other flavors. But then again what other flavors? Crunch factor was there. The Asian slaw was interesting due to cilantro and an assortment of thai chilis. But chomping through the half chicken hanging out the bun, I felt it lacked salt or something to bring it all together (mind you I did not order sauce on the side). Also for all the awesomeness inside the sandwich, the storebought bun was weak, not enough structure or flavor to keep up. Anywho worth a try but need some tweaks to wow this fried chicken sandwich lover. read more
This small shop served the absolute best Chicken Sandwich I have ever had. It's large, tender on the inside, crisp on the outside, and super flavorful from the Szechuan spices and from the fresh slaw of cabbage and peppers. The bun hold up perfectly with this delicious sandwich. The large chicken thigh sticks pretty far out of the bun, so I started by cutting off a few pieces and dipping them in the Daybird Sauce. The creamy and slightly sour sauce was a perfect compliment to the spicy chicken. The chicken tenders were also amazing. They were large, moist, and crispy on the outside. Once again, the Daybird sauce paired perfectly with the Tenders. However, my friend was not at all impressed with the flavor of the barbecue sauce. The big surprise here was the amazing Fish Sandwich! It's an elevated take on a classic fish sandwich that will remind you of the fish sandwiches you ate as a kid at that place with the yellow arches. But, this one is so much better! First, the cod I filet is large and so juicy. But, be warned, it is served piping hot, so let it rest for a minute or two before eating it. The tartar sauce is really special and they make sure you get enough of it. You have the option of having your fish sandwich with or without cheese. Of course, I had cheese on mine. The same bun is used for both the chicken and the fish sandwiches. The shop is small. There is a 15 foot counter you can eat at, but that fills up fast. So, be prepared to eat outside or in your car. The staff here are very pleasant and they are happy to assist you as you order. You order at the front counter and they bring you your food. It's also fun because you can watch the cook prepare your food and everyone else's. I came here because this is Chef Mei Lin's Chicken Shop and I wasn't sure what to expect. I left feeling so happy and satisfied from one of the very best lunches I've ever eaten. Daybird is wonderful and it is worth making a special trip to visit! read more
Aight, a little late to the game, but had this bookmarked because of the viral caviar fish sandos. I did not try the caviar (because it is $80) BUT settled for the fried fish sando and the chicken sandwich! BE WARNED, the fish is HOT!!!! Because it it freshly fried! But man, this sandwich was heavenly! Very simple yet well seasoned. The tartar sauce wasn't too overpowering and was just all around great! Chicken sandwich is great too! Didn't think the coleslaw really complimented the best with the chicken, but nevertheless, was fantastic! I would definitely recommend the fish sando first then chicken next, and they DO sell out of the fish sando, so make sure to get there in a timely manner!! read more
Uber Eats review - got the fish sandwich with yuzu tartar sauce. Fish sandwich was epically made - some good quality fish, was fried very well and did not feel oily. Yuzu tartar sauce was awesome as well - but the fried fish filet was the star. The only problem was the price - was tough paying $21 for a fried protein sandwich - was really good though. May order again if I'm feeling to indulge in a high-end sandwich. read more

I ordered Daybird for pickup through DoorDash, so I can't comment on service, but the food was ready impressively fast--about 15 minutes after placing my order. Tried the cod sandwich, which felt like an upscale Filet-O-Fish. The fish was crispy, the bun was soft, and the herbaceous tartar sauce added a nice touch. It was tasty, but at $20, a bit steep for a sandwich. I went with the non-spicy option, though the spicy version sounds interesting. Also had the Sichuan-style chicken sandwich, which was dusted with a savory, warm spiced dry seasoning. The slaw was pleasantly acidic, with pickled chilies and onions adding a nice kick. The Jidori chicken itself was huge. For condiments, I tried the habanero ranch, Daybird sauce, and the tartar sauce. All were solid, but the tartar sauce paired especially well with the cod. I would also recommend the Day bird sauce over the habenaro ranch. The Daybird Sauce is a creamy and umami condiment that pairs well with the chicken sandwich. The milk tea cookies? Incredible. Soft, perfectly textured, and full of milk tea flavor. I highly recommend trying this too! Overall, 4/5 stars. Great flavors and high-quality ingredients, though some items feel a bit pricey. What type of fish is used in the fried fish sandwich?
If I'm not mistaken, I believe it's cod. But it's a big special cut piece. I'm not exaggerating when I said it was 3-4 inches thick. Maybe bigger.
Are they all Spicy?
No. You can order with no spice (just normal fried chicken), mild, medium, hot or super hot.
Does Daybird fry their chicken in peanut oil? Asking for allergy reasons
Their website clearly states that all of their chicken is fried in rice bran oil.
