This place was a happy accident for us. It's in the Montserrat neighborhood in the shadow of Diamond Head, which is about as non-touristy and bohemian? hipster? as you can get this close to Waikiki. We'd planned to hike Diamond Head that morning, but like rookie tourists we showed up too late to get parking. So we went in search of some breakfast. I had the combo breakfast and was so glad I did: a little bit of everything: two fried eggs, shrimp fried rice Caesar salad, and poke. Fantastic. Wife/kid/kid friend had things I can't recall... And for a reward to myself i decided to come and try this place for breakfast! Been trying to come here for a while but it's always so crowded but at 7am it was only me lol. Service: no table service, but girl in the counter was nice and friendly! Parking: small parking lot in the back and street parking. Such a cute place on the way to Diamond Head trail! My husband and I had a great experience at lunch after finishing the trail. The interior was so cute and trendy. The service was amazing. We got the Maki Special, basil chicken stir fry and scrabble egg with French fries. All dishes had pretty large portions with reasonable price. It's definitely cheaper than restaurants in Waikiki area. The fried rice in Maki special was my favorite and my husband loved the chicken stir fry. Very flavorful. A few birds were outside and sometimes inside of the restaurant. It was interesting to see! I would try the fried rice or kimchi fried rice if I visit again as both rice dishes we ordered were delicious. Highly recommend this place! read more

Here on Memorial Day for brunch with hubby. Got here around 10am. Line was right outside the door. Eating area is nice and airy. No a/c but it's a nice tradewind day, so the ceiling fans and large multiple windows made it comfortable. Wanted to order the Mac Nut Haupia "Baguette" French Toast but their menu shows it's only served on weekdays, excluding holidays. Bummer. Ended up ordering their lilikoi mango pancakes (20 minute wait), fried rice with garlic shrimp, and a large ginger lemonade. The taste of the mango and lilikoi were great but the pancake itself was heavy. Just seemed very floury. I was expecting light, fluffy pancakes. Same with the fried rice. Taste was good but it was so greasy. And for $10 on a paper plate, I expected more in quantity. The garlic shrimp was good! Tasty and juicy. They gave 5 pieces of shrimp which was a fair price for $5. Our order came out one-by-one, which would've been fine if the runner had said, "Your fried rice and lemonade is coming up", or something of that sort. But she didn't even seem to know our order wasn't complete. Had to ask a second time for the ginger lemonade. All that being said, the staff is very nice. They saved the loss of another star. Morey's has great potential, with a few tweaks here and there. Hoping they heed my review as they could continue to run their business "as is" but may lose some of the local foodies, as shown by other reviews. read more

We were delighted to try this place. It's where one of our favorite restaurants once existed- Happy Valley. I had the fried rice and shrimp. It was ono. I'm a local here and this is usually a tourist spot but i came here because I saw a Kpop girl group called TWICE film their Hawaii music video and Hawaii reality show where they ate and and drank smoothies. Unfortunately, they were out of smoothies when i went but i got an iced tea and kimchi fried rice. The food is really good. Parking is really limited, had to park on the streets by someone's house but overall it was pretty good. read more

With all the four- and five-star ratings, I was really expecting a lot more of this place. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a resounding disappointment. The best part of our experience was their small parking lot with about 6 stalls that was surprisingly wide open. Drove right in and parked right away. Score! When you first enter the restaurant, the instructions at the door tell you to find a table before ordering at the counter. How exactly am I supposed to do that? Leave all my stuff there so it can get stolen?? Ordered the "signature" Morey's Fried Rice with an added over-easy egg, and the "famous" Eggs Benedict with Grilled Bacon. And an iced coffee. Everything was slightly overpriced for a hole-in-the-wall place that doesn't even have air-conditioning, which was a little disappointing, but I was even more disappointed when after paying, I noticed the sign that said residents of 96816 & 96815 get a 10% discount that I had missed out on. My bad. We got a number and bucket of utensils and went to find a seat. The fried rice arrived first, but we were confused when the server placed it on our table saying "Here's your eggs Benedict". Our over-easy egg was rubbery and over-cooked, and the fried rice had corn in it. Weird, and made the whole thing unpleasantly sweet. And it came on a paper plate instead of a real plate even though we were eating in?? Hard pass on this one. Next up came the "eggs Benedict". I was actually really excited for this dish, but instead of English muffins, it came on two tiny, hard pieces of French bread, which were impossible to cut with the provided butter knives. Obviously they're free to make their dishes any way they want, but you should probably post a warning on the menu if you're going to change up a basic staple in such a disappointing and unconventional way. On top of that, the hollandaise was completely tasteless and the "salad" didn't seem to have any dressing on it. The blueberry and strawberry-topped yogurt cup was the best part of this plate, but not sure why it had to come in a plastic cup instead of something reusable. The disappointments didn't stop there, as trying to get out of the place was just as confusing as the instructions for coming in. You're expected to bus your own tables, but they don't provide trays or anything to make this remotely convenient in any way, so be prepared for an awkward juggling of all your various dishes and cutlery. The food, "eco-cups", "eco-plates", and "papers" go into one trash can, with another labeled cans and bottles only. There's a separate place to put your regular dishes in the other room at the end of the counter. This place caters to Japanese and other non-English speaking tourists, but the confusing signs are all in English only. I watched a clearly distressed Japanese lady walk back and forth between the dish rack and trash can 4 times holding her variety of reusables, recyclables, and trash, not sure what to do with each individual piece. I feel ya, lady. We had no idea what to do with our utensil bucket or number plaque so we just ended up leaving it in front of the water jug on top of the trash cans. All in all, this was a fitting ending to top off a thoroughly disappointing and confusing meal. I guess I'm glad I tried this place, but will certainly not be back. read more

The food was great! Their fried chicken and fried rice is AMAZING!!! I cleaned the plate. We tried the French toast and lilikoi pancakes those were also very good. Definitely recommend if you have kids, my son loved it. They do little pancakes and form a turtle and write their name. That was fun and my son really enjoyed it. If you enjoy having the wrong food come out and at separate times this is the place for you. Me and my boyfriend came in to try this place and we ordered an island mimosa, lemon beer, side of bacon, kimchi fried rice and lilikoi mango pancakes. The drinks came fairly early and my boyfriends fried rice came not long afterwards. Since he's not the type to complain it was the wrong one he just took it. We waited about 25 minutes and my pancakes and the bacon had not came out yet. By this time my boyfriends food was getting cold so I went to ask where the rest of our order was. I bounced between employees cause no one seemed to know where my food was. They apologized and it came out in a few minutes. The pancake tasted very dry but the veggie fried rice however was pretty good. The presentation looked really cheap since the food came out on a paper plate and the utensils were plastic. The eggs benny were very tasty and the crab was good quality, not a lot of filler. The wait was short, the staff was friendly, the place was clean, and the cafe is "green" friendly. This cafe is adorable! It's a great stop on your way to or from (or both) Diamond Head. They keep the windows open (unless it rains, I imagine), and birds fly through the restaurant freely. I had the Morey special, which was fried rice with shrimp and an egg, some salad, and poke. All of it was delicious, even the salad, which was fairly simple. It filled me up, but I wish I had room to try their pancakes, because those looked amazing, too. read more

Perhaps if they put them in dispensers on the table it would be better. We came in on a Monday morning after hiking Diamond Head around 8:30am. We were seated right away, and it was pretty quiet. Service was attentive, and the restaurant was very cute. My 3 boys loved and devoured their honu pancakes. They especially loved their names written in chocolate. I had the kimchi fried rice with garlic shrimp. It was probably the best fried rice I ever had. My husband had a smoked salmon avocado, and that was delicious, too. read more

Once you walk in, you see that the ambience is bright and retro. The cashiers were friendly. However, once you look to your left to the dining room, it's not so pleasant. The plates left by previous patrons lie on the tables. Minus one star! Though, I must say I came here for Sunday brunch and the smoked salmon and eggs benedict was delicious! There aren't many places where you can get a good eggs benedict, but this is definitely one of the places where you can! Bumped into this place on my morning run around Diamond Head. Came by a few hours later for a breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. The location, the ambiance, open space to the beautiful surroundings, super friendly and courteous staff, and did I mention food. The food was down right incredible. We shared the carmelized banana and fresh strawberry waffle and the kim chee kalbi fried rice for breakfast. Everything was so ono! We polished everything off in short order! The staff are friendly. Cute cafe on Monsarrat, close to Diamond Head Health Bar and Bogarts. There is a small lot connected to the shop, but if not street parking around the area is easy to find. We had a party of six, and easily found a table large enough for us all to sit down. You order your food up at the counter and put away dishes as you are done. The decor is cute and there was a wonderful breeze going through the place that made it nice and shady despite it being sunny outside. I ordered the Passion Fruit Ice Tea ($4) and Kalbi Kimchi Fried Rice (13.50). I would say the menu items are pretty pricey, especially for breakfast. I opted for the Kalbi Kimchi rice because the others do not come with meat. The Ice Tea was good, but my friends Basil Lemonade was way better...I would recommend trying that instead. While pricey, the fried rice was really tasty and came with three pieces of kalbi on top. It was a huge serving that lasted me at least two more meals after. The food service was kind of slow but the workers were nice. We waited at least 20-30 minutes before the food started to even come out. And one of my friends meals came out at least 10-15 minutes after everyone else had their food. It's a great restaurant to try but be prepared to wait and spend money! read more
