The quality of food here is outstanding! It's a small, quaint little place on Whyte Ave and it's great! Each dish is prepared well and it's all fresh. They care about their food here - it's a far cry from something like Denny's. You can tell that they put a lot of care and time into their food at Mosaics. I'm a huge carnivore so I was skeptical about trying this place but I'm so glad I did. It was so good! I didn't know vegetarian restaurant could leave me so satisfied. While I've only been here once in recent years, it's a really great place. I was there with a large group recently and the food (and beverages!) was delicious! I really loved the Thai Iced tea and I rather appreciated the fact that the server offered me a sample when I was uncertain as to whether or not I ought to order it. As a food item I got the pho soup and it was odd that my server didn't provide me with a spoon or chopsticks immediately when it arrived so I tried to eat it with a fork until I could catch her attention and she was quick to remedy this issue. The food was really quite good and the rest of the members of my group really had good meals as well. This cafe is crazy busy but the decor is light and bright and there are numerous seating options. I would definitely come back and not just with vegan/vegetarian friends either. The food/and beverage selections are extensive and really quite worth sampling. Recently delving into the world of vegetarian fare, I have come to a recommended spot, Cafe Mosaics. Located on Whyte ave, this health conscious restaurant has an atmosphere found in Southern California, much like Arizona. Spacious, wood trimmed, and bright, it's a good spot to try some food. Beginning with some positives about some of the dishes here was the Unicorn Burger. There's a veggie patty that might be pretty lame on it's on but the garnishes of a fried egg, beets, grilled pineapple, avocado aioli made this dish all gouda. Gouda is also on the burger. The curry bowl was decent that had seasonal vegetables, lentils, and a mix of brown  rice and quinoa. I felt like this dish was cheating as yellow coconut curry on top of anything would make it insanely delicious. There was also something slightly mushy, slightly sweet and fruit like thing in this bowl that I had no idea why it was in there and made it the most avoidable thing on the plate. The one dish i'd avoid here is the XL Mosaics Wings. Just avoid this heavily battered tofu and super deep fried mess. If i were to throw one of these at the window, it would most definitely shatter. Despite the dishes, Cafe Mosaics really shines with their drink options with vegan beer,vegan wines and many teas. Seeing as the owner is the same as Moth Cafe, the drinks will look similar and will tell you what symptoms they cure. Got inomnia? Boom there's a drink for that. Need to boost your defense? They got a drink for that. It honestly seems like a list you would see in a video game. Overall the drinks here are pretty great and seeing as the recommended dishes were adequate, I'd try other dishes if I desired to be a little healthier. Avoid those damn wings though. We relocated to the table and were told that "it needs to stay reserved for 4 toppers". The reality is that you serve the people in front of you not the "fictitious people" that could arrive. This place is great! I recently tried it with my Aunt for lunch. I have to say I am impressed. I really enjoyed the decor of this restaurant. I always appreciate a unique decorating style. I loved the hanging ornaments and the artwork on the walls. Our orders were also served surprisingly quickly! That was a nice surprise I think they came out in about 10 minutes. I ordered the Lawrence Burger and thought it was delicious. I loved the toppings and the sauce. I also liked that I ordered it without sauteed mushrooms and it actually came without mushrooms! We've been going to Cafe Mosaics for years and overall they've got a great thing going. Pros: - The dishes are healthy and served quickly. I like that you can pick your sides on lots of dishes as well. - Great place to sit by the big open windows in the summer and people watch on Whyte Ave. - Comfortable to dine on your own or a small group. It is not really conducive to groups of 4+ - They're open really late for people who eat dinner at an odd hour like us. I think it is around 11pm or midnight but this is not posted on their website. Cons: - Service is generally good but if it's busy you can get overlooked as many times you kind of seat yourself. It's a bit confusing on your first visit on what you should do when you walk in. - The bench seating is not the most comfortable and the bathrooms are super cold! - The got rid of the falafel salad which was the best thing on the menu! - Signage is kind of non existent so if you haven't been here before, it is hard to find. - It appears the prices have changed again recently. Everything on the menu used to be $15 Cafe Mosaics is a lovely gem in the heart of Whyte Ave if you are looking for an eclectic place to grab a vegan/vegetarian bite to eat. It's happen to me before: go to a hyped-up whyte ave place and it is nothing special. I will be more skeptical next time I am lured that way again. I came on Saturday looking for a tasty veggie burger and some vegetarian food. We got the burger with the egg on it and the zucchini pasta dish. The burger was okay, nothing special though. Not sure how fried egg & pineapple mesh together. The zucchini pasta was not flavourful at all, I can whip up a similar dish at home in 10 minutes that is way tastier. And for $17??? I can't believe how expensive a raw, vegan zucchini dish with a few slices of mushroom could be. What a rip off!! Lamest $50 I ever spent on food. Overall an amazing place. I've been coming here consistently for a couple years and have nothing but good things to say. Once in a while there is an item on the menu that may be a miss, but for the most part picking anything from the menu will leave you satisfied, and at quite a reasonable price at that. One of my favourite items are the wings. They come with a delicious ranch sauce and have an incredible taste and texture. This place is great for every meal of the day! For starters, their tea menu is fantastic and there are plenty of flavours to try! Their menu is extremely accommodating of dietary restrictions, and the staff is always great about asking me questions to make sure that my meal won't hurt! Their portions are decently large, so I'm never hungry once I leave. My favourite dish is their tofu scramble with hashbrowns and fruit. While I like to eat healthy, I'm 100% omnivore and could never give up meat. Not that I need meat at every meal, but I wouldn't give up all the wonderful roasted, braised, grilled, broiled and barbecued joints, flanks, loins, ribs and butts. I was taught to eat with British table manners, so you mash a little starch and veg on the back of your fork after spearing some meat - every mouthful was a blend of the food groups. The wonder of Cafe Mosaics is the it doesn't matter, there. The food is simply terrific. Sure, their menu is all vegan or vegetarian (not the same thing at all), all that matters is that it's all good. It doesn't matter that there's no meat involved. No one's thinking, "I wonder how they'll simulate the meat?". It's all, "How is this so delicious?". Dishes are inspired from all over the globe: Mexico, Asia, Mediterranean, plus their own take on staples like the clubhouse, burger or grilled cheese. Service is fast, friendly and knowledgeable. They don't look down on you as a "meat criminal". Décor is sleek modern urban with a small intimate room. Great place to take your new veggie girl on the first date. Kitchen is efficient and pretty quick. I ended up there because I ate this giant burger yesterday, and felt like I was slipping into a meat coma all day long, so I stopped in to have the Veggie Pho to rebalance my humours. Every time I eat here I have an awesome experience! I find the food is always so fresh and flavorful I don't know what kind of unicorn magic they use in that kitchen but it is amazing! It can be a bit of a wait to get in sometimes but well worth it and they also have cute decor for sale that switches up from time to time so way to go Cafe Mosaic keeping it fresh and interesting. I love going out for food that you wouldn't make at home normally. Everytime I eat here it's something I have never attempted myself and probably won't because I'm too cheap and lazy to source out all the ingredients/I'd never make it as tasty as they can. The menu was updated since the last time i was there which is fun because there's so much more to try! The pumpkin mac and cheese was delicious. I don't understand the crisp kale on top but it was allllll good. The caesar kale salad on the side was so generously big! Mmmmmm I love that dressing. Next for trying will be the falafel and pho. The service was great as well. It definitely got crowded by 7pm and multiple groups were standing waiting for tables. But that's what happens when you have high quality food and service. After my pleasant Noorish surprise I decided to try out another vegetarian restaurant recommended by a vegetarian co-worker. Cafe Mosaic was quaint. We started with the Buffalo Vegan Wings - not bad... I was surprised it wasn't meat. I decided to try the Mystery Burger; the mushroom sauce was pretty yummy. I'm pretty sure the patty was deep fried as it was quite crispy. If I had known I was having two deep fried dishes I would have changed one of the selections. All in all the food was tasty and I didn't feel overstuffed walking about... however I didn't feel as good as I felt after Noorish. Yeah.... they got me good over there. Cafe Mosaics is a beautiful and comfortable please for a meal or just a snack that, while they are a vegetarian and vegan restaurant, offers a huge food and drink menu that anyone can appreciate! I met a friend here for dinner and I couldn't get over the size of the menu. For drinks you have everything from a huge Cafe selection to wine and beer, spirits and more. And don't forget about all of their juices! And the food menu is huge. Even though I'm a meat eater and lover, I still enjoyed everything I had. The Mac and cheese (vegetarian is what I had but there is a vegan offering) was super hearty and warm and yummy. I also had toona tacos to start and they were crispy and tasty, served with an avocado sauce that was perfect! And I brought home a chocolate peanut butter cupcake for the Hubba Hubby and it was to die for (obviously I had to test it to make sure it was good for him). I would go back in a heart beat for the food and drink menu, at any time of the day or night. The vibe is super comfortable, bright and fun. Service was okay. This charming little cafe is incredible. When I first heard that it was vegan, I was a little apprehensive to try it as I am not a vegan myself. I was really surprised to see that they also offered some non vegan components on their menu, for example, you can get vegan eggs Benedict, or with eggs. The eggs Benedict is amazing, and probably my favourite thing that I've tried here. The have a huge selection of coffee and lattes to choose from and the baristas and staff are very friendly and easy to talk to. I've often had dreams about their VEGAN CHOCOLATE CAKE; I can't even walk down that end of Whyte Ave without checking my pockets for the cash to grab a slice. They are very accommodating and cautious about allergies (I have a severe nut allergy, which can be very tricky to manage when going to veg/vegan restaurants). Cafe Mosaics is one of the restaurants that I knew I was going to miss when I moved away from Edmonton. I try to make an effort to go back as often as I can. This restaurant is great for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. My personal favourite menu item would have to be the vegan wings but I'm also crazy about their onion cakes, tofu scrambles, and burgers. To be honest, there isn't a single item on the menu that I've been disappointed by. They have a great drink menu as well. Make sure to try one of their house-made juices! I love Mosaics' new post-renovation look. Yes, it isn't as cozy and eclectic as the restaurant used to be but instead it's open, bright, and airy. It's a great place to have an intimate meal or to drop by with a group. Service can be a little slow so go elsewhere if you're in a rush but if you aren't, it's definitely worth the wait! read more

Wanted to have something light and not the usual 'tofu scramble' so we got pancakes and sausage and an order of hash browns (what? they were what we call 'home fries' in the states, what a disappointment!! esp for my little person who loves hash browns (like we know them in the states))....and granola with fruit. The pancakes were good, not awesome.. the granola was marginal at best. Especially the fruit 'selection' on top. Normally one puts like berries etc on top. Not unpeeled apples, oranges and kiwi. Odd. I have been here twice, once for dinner and once for breakfast. For breakfast I had the vegan cowgirl something or other, it was a southwest thing with tofu, tomatoes, peppers and black beans. I think it was the pinacle awesome thing for vegan breakfast. I have been experimenting at home to reproduce the wonderful meatiness that they created without any meat. For dinner, I ordered the veggie loaf, it came with some wondefully flavoured potatoes and a salad with some pink dressing. The loaf was a well spiced veggie concoction that made me giggly with happiness. On both visits the service was great, casual and not rushed at all. Ambiance was lovely. The food here was so amazing! It came quite quickly too. My mum and I had buffalo wings as an appetizer (super good), then she ordered the falafel wrap and I had a very well presented salad. The prices were also pretty decent for vegan food (usually it is quite a bit more expensive). We payed about $36.00 for everything. My only complaints were the loud music (which they did turn down when we requested it) and the somewhat shabby accommodations. We spent at least a minute just trying to get the door open. First off I would like to say that the food was great. But the HOUR AND A HALF wait for it was inexcusable! No sorry or apology. No "we'll take your drinks off the bill for you" And actually the drinks came out super late and separate from each other. At one point we thought our server forgot my friend's drinks. No, they were just 5 mins apart from each other. And I don't understand when you finish your drink why a server wouldn't suggest another one, especially when we had been waiting an hour for our food? When the food actually did arrive, it was really good. SO, moral of story, a restaurant cannot survive on great food alone. I actually want to give it a 3 1/2 stars. I've been wanting to visit this place for a while. Last time I was in town they were under Reno. So I'm glad I got to try it this trip. The space is nice, spacious and bright. Not very loud altho it's quite a big space. They have an area for to go coffee and pastries. We came for dinner and ordered hot chocolate (mine with cashew milk) - which presented very nicely, the foam artwork was pretty and the big white cups were very cute. The hot chocolate was good, not too sweet. Could be warmer tho...but that's probably just me not used to the cold weather. For appy we shared the nachos and it is SO good! One of the best nacho from a vegetarian rest! I love they taste of the multigrain chips! The warm black beans works so well with the fresh veggie salsa and sour cream! For main I had re veggie pho which was ok. I had better. My friend ordered their cheese pizza. Which I didn't try and she said not very good. One bad thing was how SLOW it was. I felt like it took forever! At first I thought they were going to ring everything together. So I specifically grabbed the waitress to make sure the nachos comes first and she's like Yup of course. It took like forever for the nachos and when we were almost done with the nachos to come and then the mains took even longer. The worst part was they screwed up on my friends pizza where she requested no mushrooms and added feta. But they added mushrooms so they had to remake it! By the time it was ready she wasn't hungry already and they also forgot to add the feta on the 2nd pizza. All in all there is potential and their menu looks interesting and I will still come back to try some other items. I just hope it won't be this slow! read more

Cafe Mosaics is the old stalwart vegetarian restaurant that seems as if it would have been cool 40 years ago, but it's still pretty cool now. It's very laid back, and that's part of the charm. Of course, this laid back nature, means that quality tends to vary. On one visit, I ordered a Thai Iced Tea, and the version served to me happened to be the absolute worst thing i have ever had to drink. I get the sense that the person mixing it up messed it up, I probably should have complained about it, but I didn't. Sarah enjoys the veggie burger served here, but not on the same level as the Next Act's Drama Queen. The food served here reminds me of things I can make at home, but the food I make tends to have more flavour. I've arrived here slightly too late for Sunday brunch on countless occasions, but the times I've made it in early enough have been exquisite. The menu- all vegetarian and vegan fare, rare for Edmonton - has so many interesting items on it, it's tough to make a choice; last time I tried the garlic grilled cheese, which, although super tasty, became almost too garlicky for this garlic-lover by the end. Probably wasn't the best date choice, anyway, but my friend seemed very happy with his huevos rancheros. Its only real downside is that Cafe Mosaics can get absolutely stifling, particularly if you're visiting on a hot summer's day. Cafe Mosaics is a very unique place, tiny and comfortable.. But the service leaves something to be desired. They barely talk to you and it took over 15 minutes for the girl to bring the bill. She didn't ask how the food was or if we needed anything. I felt like I was causing them an inconvenience. They were really slow getting the food out and then claimed the kitchen was really busy.. even though the place was pretty much empty. The menu is all vegetarian, I wasn't to into it, and the quality wasn't very good. The soup seemed like it was just warm water with no flavor.
