From the fresh flavors of the vegetables to the delicious and rich consommé broth, there is a lot to like in Smalls take on comfort food. We certainly did. The restaurant is small and has a skeleton crew of staff, but they don't miss a beat and provide an excellent dining experience for all their guests. There's a nice list of California regional wines by the glass or bottle, and a local selection of beers and hard cider. It seemed that the biggest hit of the evening was the deserts. To a table on the night we dined, everyone was eating the desserts. My only regret from the evening is that we didn't eat the desserts because we had to go in a bit of a last minute dash. Oh well, all the more reason to come back.

But the salad was excellent. They split it for us for a small upcharge. The Halibut was excellent. We had to split it ourselves, but that was not a problem for us. It was served over couscous and was excellent. A bit small to split, so we added a cheesecake dessert with ganache. Very good. We paired it all with a Cabernet from the Oakville area of Napa (where we had just visited) and it was excellent as well. Our server was attentive. The pacing of our meal was very well done. Not too long between check-ins, but also not rushed. We recommend!

Our waitress and bartender went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of, providing friendly, attentive service that truly elevated the experience. The Old Fashioneds were fantastic, and the wine list was impressive, with an excellent selection to complement the meal. It's not often that you find a restaurant that gets the food, drinks, and service all right, but 301 at Carter House absolutely did. I have enjoyed this place numerous times. There are many things I love about it. It's in direct competition with Golden Harvest for me when it comes to their "Morning Taters" over GH's "Potato Cakes." Even though GH is much better at this dish for several reasons 1)serving size 2)well cooked vs hardly cooked 3) offerings of veggie bacon or sausage for vegetarians/vegans Nooner Too is closer. It also offers a couple of other things that I like, so I've ended up doing the "Morning Taters" here the last three times --like an idiot. This morning we ordered two large "Morning Taters" one for me, one for the BF. Today's order was lacking in: 1)cheese. It's not that there was barely any cheese on my order, it's that my order didn't come with a single shred. His order had the lightest trace on the top left corner of his meal and another trace towards the middle. It was as if while sprinkling cheese on another dish, the cook accidentally dropped a few shreds on such a tiny small portion of one part of our meal that it wasn't worth picking off. 2)Red onions. Just not there. 3)Sweet peppers. Just not there. So we both got small portions (despite ordering a large/full order) (I'd be very curious to see what a small/half order looked like) of undercooked potatoes with some avocado slices, a splash of sour cream, diced tomatoes, and a sprinkling of green onions. The cherry on top was taking a bite that ended up being sausage covered with sour cream. While this might be a bonus for some, as a vegetarian it's sickening, and was the end of my meal after just three bites in. Why don't I just call to have them remake my order? It's my fault for being lazy and not wanting to drive all the way to Golden Harvest for a far superior meal. This has already happened two other times, so I'm the idiot who handed over my hard earned money for something I already knew was going to be sub-par. The first time it happened I did call to have it remade, then drove out again to pick it up. The second time I called to let them know but did not ask them to remake it My family and I own three restaurants, two breakfast & lunch cafes and one upscale dinner establishment. We have been in business for over 15 years. I personally have been waitressing since age 15, and have worked at numerous cafes/restaurants in addition to our own spots. I also cook, prep cook, and manage to this day. Again, I've worked these positions at numerous places, both in Humboldt and Los Angles. We rely on customer feedback. We want, nay, we need to know when something is wrong or off with any part of the dinning experience. If we don't know, we can't fix it, and we haven't been in business for over 15 years by selling sub-par food. I just don't get it and clearly there is no fixing the situation. This is clearly good enough for them. How big of a deal is this? Widespread deviation is engulfing the globe, innocents are systematically being slaughtered, and the USA is officially the butt of the world's biggest joke. This is minuscule, but also slightly infuriating. I work very hard for my money despite having a very painful physical disability. I just wanted a nice meal on my rainy day of recuperation. Instead, I've spent a good amount of money on what turned out to be fancy breakfast for the pups, and got to do a little creative writing. Bye Nooner/Nooner Too, it's been real. read more

I have eaten there several times, and I had a wonderful experience every time. The food is not only delicious, but high quality! Nooners buys a lot of their food from local businesses and the beef is local grass fed beef. The burgers are AMAZING (better than 'In and Out' amazing, and thats saying something!). And I love how there is an espresso bar; I normally order a latte, which is super good. Something about quality coffee makes any atmosphere that much more special:) The service is great as well; everyone is very kind and the food gets to the table relatively quickly. Compared to how good the food is, I don't mind waiting! Overall a great restaurant and a wonderful place to get together with friends or family. read more

I've heard that cafe nooners was on the show diners, drive ins, and dives, and I can see why, the food is great and its a nice place to hang out. Ordered for pick and got home to uncooked and incomplete orders. One appeared to be someone's left overs. Agreed not to write a Yelp if comped. They initially agreed and then called back to tell me I had to pay for the parts of the meal that were fully cooked. Been there before and it was good.
