Went for dinner and it was a tough choice, so many things looked good. I had the heritage pork dish with tostones on the side. Sounds silly but the rice was amazing as were the pickled red onions. Hubs had the Catalan stew - cross between gumbo and cioppino. So many shrimp, meaty pieces of fish plus sausage and bacon. We were walking around downtown Santa Fe and received a recommendation to have dinner at Cafe Pasqual's. When we arrived the restaurant was busy, and we were asked if we had reservations. We had not, so we turned to go. The gentleman at the front stopped us and looked around the room, kindly finding us a small table with 2 chairs which we were happy to take. We ordered a panko-crusted chicken with broccolini and garlic mashed potatoes and a chorizo tofu enchilada with cornbread and black beans. The food was delicious, tasty, and clearly made with care. We finished our dinner with 2 of their homemade shakes- one a medjool, and the other a strawberry marscapone. I highly recommend because the service is fantastic, and the food is marvelous. The salads and fish we ate were incredibly fresh and delicately prepared. We so appreciated that. And while there are New Mexico inflections on the menu, they are subtle and innovative. So when you tire of red chili enchiladas and pozole - and one eventually does - this is the place to come. The ambience is cozy and buzzy, classy in an informal way. I hadn't dined at Pasqual's in a long time and was looking forward to a great experience. I've got mixed reviews about the dinner we had there a couple of weeks ago. I don't generally like to leave less than stellar reviews, but when a meal is a disappointment, I think it's important to let the restaurant know where they fell short. Firstly, our appetizers were outstanding! Mexican style shrimp cocktail was fresh and delicious. The baked brie with two dipping sauces were also very good. I like pork and decided on the pork in achiote and Seville orange marinade wrapped in a banana leaf. While this sounds delish and unique, it was underwhelming and disappointing. The pork was shredded to the point it was unrecognized as meat. It was overly seasoned and the seasoning overpowered any flavor the meat may have had. The tortillas that came with the plate were dry and needed to be sent back to the kitchen. As a lover of tostones, I was excited to have them with my meal. They were soft and fell apart. They also were flavorless even with the crema drizzled on top. Not a tostone that deserved praise. Since my dinner companion paid for our meal, I was reluctant to complain and send the dish back but it was disappointing at best. I hope to have a better meal experience if I return again. read more

The food, ambiance, and service were excellent. We were visiting during Christmas week, and we made a reservation a couple of weeks before coming to Santa Fe. We enjoyed meeting the people at the tables on either side of us. The community table looked lively and fun as well. I had the mole enchiladas, and my husband had the chicken enchiladas. Big servings, so we took some back to our Airbnb to have the next day. We also bought the box of cookies to take with us, and nibbled on them during our stay! Pasqual's is legendary In Santa Fe. There's always a line waiting to get in. The secret is to ask for the Community Table, which I did as a single. Waited about 6 minutes. I had the orange avocado salad which has a sweetish dressing. I must have liked it because I ate every leaf. The wait's how long? Yes, just like most reviewers mentioned be prepared to wait. So we did, 90 mins. We usually do some walking the plaza anyway, so we just got it in while we were waiting. Small place, lots of people. Took our seat at the community table and got the menu. Everything sounds good - hard to choose. But we weren't the only ones at the table having to make a tough choice. We settled on the Carne Asada Plate - nice amount of meat, not overdone. Onions, bell pepper and roasted jalepeño. and the Mole Enchiladas - the mole, wasn't sweet(different than we're used to) & spicy. The chicken was moist. It was a good meal & worth the wait. We left feeling full - but the nice thing about our lunch - we could walk it off and we did. We came on a Saturday and it was super busy but we were able to put our name on the list and they would text us when our table was ready. This allowed us to explore the plaza. This restaurant is cozy and therefore they have a community table and some private tables. I ordered the chile relleno which was super fresh and not spicy. The mild pepper was stuffed with cheese and onion with a jalapeño tomato salsa and more cheese. The gruyere potato cake was crispy and buttery! Delicious. My spouse got the bison burger which was huge but a touch rare for us. It came with a lot of cheese. The waffle chips were light, airy, and crispy! Excellent. The food was good and it was a nice taste of New Mexican food on our first day in town. I got the corn cakes, which come with red Chile, mole, and maple syrup; you're supposed to smother the cakes in all three and it makes for a sweet and sour taste. Very unique and hearty! The bacon was very flavorful, thick and crispy. The decor was bright and colorful, with murals on the walls and paper banners reaching across the room. A few notes on accessibility from a disabled person: this is in an old building, and at least some of the seating was in a raised area with steps that went up to it. The bathroom would be very difficult to access if you had a rollater or wheelchair as a very narrow hall led to the small room. With my cane I was okay. Four of us went to breakfast...no one came back hungry! So we started with Coffees, mineral water, an Amy's Hippy Dippy Green drink and picked our entrees. The inside of this quaint, well ran restaurant wasn't on our radar for breakfast, usually dinner. This breakfast was exceptionally well done. We order a Barbacoa and egg entree, a scrambled egg and pork bacon platter, a breakfast quesadilla with a side of turkey bacon, and a 3 egg option with pork bacon. All were presented well, perfectly cooked eggs and filling to the max. The Barbacoa was exemplary--tender shreds of beef, so flavorful and black beans and corn tortillas. Our server didn't miss a beat on anything...refills, errant fork, or the Chocolate Macaroons and fudge we finished with. Don't forget to buy a recipe book and/or t-shirt or bandanna on your way out. Seating is limited but they do offer a community table that seats 10-12 strangers/parties. Once our time came up, we were seated pretty quickly. Got our orders in and food came out quickly as well. I love mole and there aren't many places that have it on the menu. It definitely has a kick but is very tasty. The sides were a jicama/orange slaw and rice. Over Promised and Under Delivered. Can't fault the menu choices and the atmosphere, but this doesn't make up for poorly prepared food that you are paying a premium for. The $69 ribeye steak we had was excessively greasy and unpleasantly oily to the point of ruining the flavor, and having left it, the manager did offer some deserts, which we politely declined assuming the $69 would not be added to the overall bill - but no, we had to pay for something that was inedible. The icing on the cake was when one of us asked for a fourth drink, we were told they had a 3 drink policy and wouldn't serve us. Would have been better if they were honest and said we need the table. In summary, they appear to be living off a reputation that sets high prices but in our case failed to justify. We won't be back. read more

We showed up without a reservation at about 1 PM on a Thursday. We put in our name as the place was packed with patrons even at 1 PM. After about 25 minutes we were able to get a table. The space is pretty tight and funky. But the food is terrific! The Hall of Fame egg salad is aptly named. I can say it was probably the best egg salad sandwich that I've ever had. Part of the attraction is the house made bread that the egg salad is placed on. I also shared an epiphany salad with my wife. It had all sorts of unusual ingredients, including beets, and mango, along with macadamia nuts and mint flavored dressing. Very unusual, very delicious.
