There is no fondue :( We ordered the croque monsieur instead. It was actually yummy but disappointing when we were so looking forward to the fondue. Service was ok and our waiter was quick to fix our order when he brought the wrong item. They don't offer a paper menu and instead direct you via QR code to a non-secure website with warnings about potentially compromising your financial information. We ordered based off Yelp photos instead. It would be great if they emphasized somewhere online when the fondue is NOT available (look at the screenshot of the website). After studying Cafe Select's menu, I was hoping to feel transported to a Swiss ski village through its offerings of rösti, raclette, and the like. The space is indeed cozy with its spray of tiny white lights on the ceiling. However the service was slow and the food very uneven. The fried zucchini chips were my favorite. Not exactly sure how they fit into the Alps menu concept, but they are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and so difficult to stop plucking from the vertical skewer and eating one by one. The pretzel side was more basic--an unremarkable soft pretzel served with grainy mustard. For my main, I tried the "Catalan shrimp" special--4 pieces of shrimp in an extremely salty tomato-based broth with chunks of potatoes and pickled onions. It included a nice hunk of grilled bread on the side, but the broth was so heavy handed with the salt that I couldn't enjoy the pleasure of sopping it up. I would've sent it back, but our server was hard to track down, and each element of our meal took a long time to come up. Solid drinks (they had the brunch classics like mimosas, bellinis, and bloody Marys, and even Pimm's cups) for OK prices: around $13, which isn't bad for brunch in the area. The food was average. The avocado toast ($15) was generously piled with avocado, although it could have used some seasoning (even just salt/pepper). The pancakes ($17) were delicious. This place is a staple in my life in SoHo. I take breakfast very seriously and they always seem to deliver beautifully even when I come in for things that are no longer on the menu. The new additions always work out well. Do have the pancakes. They are perfect! The fresh fruit, syrup and compote are all great additions that make this a meal. It can get quite busy in here from time to time, but weekday mid mornings are nice and relaxing. Get a good seat by the window and just chill out and people watch while enjoying a good meal.
