My 11 yo isn't crazy for spice, but she would not stop eating it, just the right amount of heat for amateurs. She also wanted the leftovers, which was unusual for her to ask. This place is great. The location is small and cozy and feels very personal. They have DIY ramen stations which would be super fun, and the staff is friendly and attentive. Cute little restaurant next to subway. Parking spots are limited in lot. I came here after work and there were only 2 couples in. Their menu is very simple and to the point which is nice. I ordered bulgogi, rice, and a soda. Their rice is not white it's a brown rice mix I believe but still delicious. Bulgogi is cooked well and not too chewy and well seasoned. They also have a small dish of fresh kimchi. They do clear off the tables for you so just leave your plates and items on the table he will come by and clear it off. I lament that the business no longer offers complementary barley tea and an assortment of banchan sides with meals, and fear the day the couple that run the restaurant will retire. I notice that all the bad reviews are about the service. Here's my thought on that: no need to go judging people based on one interaction, especially when they're running a restaurant with just their partner. The old man behind the counter was non verbal as he motioned for me to get a seat and gave me and my homie a menu. He came to get our order and I asked him a question about what to add to the soondubu, he answered: it's all good. I believe him. I asked for boxes and he gave no response, just walked to the back. He came back with a box for my rice and a box for my soup. I felt bad because I hadn't eaten much as I was getting ready for a competition the next day. I explained this to him and told him the food was delicious. This was the first time his facial expression changed; he smiled! What a rewarding smile. Be patient and understanding. The environment was as fantastic as the food. Quiet with plenty of intimate booths and minimal, charming bits of expression on the walls and in the old age of everything within the restaurant. Korean newspapers were stacked up behind the counter. The old man at the front desk spoke in Korean to the old woman behind the screen to let her know what to cook. The food was as lovely as the environment. Big, organic shapes of silken tofu lazed about savory, sour, spicy soup. Sticky rice soaked up the mild juice that the tender bulgogi beef left behind. A cast iron cow carried its meat to the customer. A small bowl of tart kimchi. Awesome! read more

The food was delicious (I had bibimbap, my partner had the ojingeo guksu). The owners were incredibly sweet. Make sure to try the kimchi while you're there, I have a feeling they make it themselves and the umami and sourness were so good. Very chill, quiet atmosphere. Cafe Seoul is a little slice of home I've been fortunate to find here in Eugene, OR. It's a mom & pop shop run by a Korean couple, and although it's not the same as my grandmas' home cooking, it's definitely good. We tried the beef bulgogi, japchae, and dol sot bibimbap. IMO all three are enough to share between 2-3 people. If you're unfamiliar to Korean food, I recommend any of these! The bulgogi and japchae are mild spice and the dol sot bibimbap is medium spice. The japchae is a savory but slightly sweet glass noodle dish with sautéed veggies, mushrooms, and sometimes beef. Bulgogi is a standard, savory, marinated beef dish with onions. Lastly, dol sot bibimbap is a rice bowl dish served in a hot, stone pot. The stone pot allows some of the rice to crisp up so when you mix it, there are crunchy bits of rice throughout. read more

This little spot caught my eye while driving around and I wanted to check it out. Located next to the Subway and across from the Matthew Knight Arena. They have not re-opened for indoor dining so we did takeout. My opinion is Korean meals are best when eaten on site (served with banchan), but with the current COVID situation (and not all places re-opening fully yet), we had no choice but to takeaway. This is a small mom & pop restaurant that serves good, Korean comfort foods--bibimbap, galbi, bulgogi, ramen, soups, stews, etc. We ordered the spicy chicken, beef bulgogi and rabbokki. The rabbokki was very good, enough spice (a little like kimchi, so it isn't super spicy), the rice tubes were perfect as was the ramen...good chew, not over-cooked. The spicy chicken was a mild spicy, but it was still spicy. I was least impressed with the bulgogi--the flavor was there, but something about it was lacking--maybe because it wasn't grilled like I'm used to. Both rice dishes were served with purple rice, which was a nice surprise. With our order we were also given a side of fresh kimchi. It was solid & satisfying meal. Don't expect to be "wowed" (especially if grew up in an area with a large Korean community), but it is good and hits the spot. read more

I have been coming to Cafe Seoul for years. It's one of the BEST Korean food spots in OREGON! The cafe is owned and run by a Korean couple...it's literally just the 2 of them. I've never had issues with customer service...as others have mentioned, but I agree that he is quiet and to the point with his work. The food is delicious and comforting and comes with generous portions. I especially LOVE the Pa-Jeon, Soft Tofu Hot Pot, Yuk Gae Jang, Kimchi Stew, Bu Dae Ji Kae, Bi Bim Bap. It's owned by an older Korean couple and I've seen reviews that say he's rude but I found him to be very friendly. I have been to the two Korean BBQ, one is on 11th in West Eugene and the other on River Road and was not impressed. One as a trial to see if it would be a dining option for my international dining group on Meetup. I was impressed with their beef bulgoki. Two weeks later I brought my group in with 12 diners. This time I had Yuk Gae Jang a spicy brisket soup. Again, I was impressed by the flavor of the meal. Others in my party ordered different items and likewise everyone were impressed by their meal. I found this location using my trusty dusty Yelp app. It was pretty close to the hotel and I actually went here twice. It is a mom and pop place with pop taking orders and mom cooking. My first visit, I ordered the bulgogi which comes with rice and kim chee. The bulgogi also had some onions, carrots, and cabbage. The flavor was really good. I also like that they do the, I call it, purple rice. My second visit was kalbi (galbi?). It was a good portion on cut pieces of short rib. The meat was very tender. As the first dish, it came with rice and kim chee. I wish there was some salad with both dishes. Yummy. read more

Yummy food, and a great lunch deal! I got a fairly sizable lunch special that included a protein (they have several to choose from, but I got beef bulgogi), rice, veggies, and a drink for $8.50. I like that the veggies had obviously been cooked fresh and were not greasy or overcooked. The bulgogi had great flavor and the meat was good quality and cooked just right -- tender, juicy, and not full of gristle or fat. An older couple (I think?) seems to run the restaurant. (I didn't get a good look at the cook in the back of the house.) The gentleman who took my order was super nice. When I arrived, he was sanitizing the front door. They both wore masks, as did I. There were no other customers inside when I was there briefly. Service was quick, and I got my food to go, of course. (Covid times, y'all!) They offer takeout, and I think they do GrubHub or other services. There's a sign on the door that reads "takeout only." The portions are a great quantity for the value they sell it at and overall, the food is not too salty or light.
