This was our 2nd trip to cafe Strega. We decided to give the place one more try after being ignored for ten minutes and walking out the first time. We were seated Promptly and served drinks in a timely manner and the view was great. It went downhill from there. We ordered zucchini blossoms for an appetizer having had them in Rome and loving them. It took 20 minutes to come and was obviously frozen food and was still cold inside. We sent it back. My husband had a chicken dish that came without the prosciutto it was supposed to include. I asked for my ribeye to be cooked medium rare and it was well-done. Both of our vegetables were obviously frozen. It was so disappointing. It's like whoever runs this restaurant has completely given up. Too bad, the location is awesome. read more

Visiting from out of town we asked a local for some recommendations. We decided on Strega. It was one of the best meals I have ever had. Husband ordered the meatball appetizer and I had the carpaccio. Both were delicious. We were surprised by the size of the meatballs though. For our entree I had the fettuccine bollanaigse (AMAZING!!)and husband had the chicken parm with penne. Cappuccino and cannoli ended the meal. It was superb. The restaurant is small and by the time we were ready to leave, the space was very tight and crowded. Returned with friends. Server very friendly but slowwwwwww and a bit disorganized: for example, after she brought the soup there was a 2 minute waith for her to bring a spoon. Salads, calamarie, zuppa di mare, meatballs all okie dokie. The calamari is perfectly cooked: nice and tender. Pretty room with nice view of Plymouth Hahbah. Moderate noise level. First off I'd like to say I know about the staff shortages in restaurants but the service my wife received tonight by Deb was the worst we have ever encounter. We love Strega on Hanover St in Boston, always one of our favorites that's why we wanted to try the one in Plymouth. Seated for 10 minutes before waitress came to our table only to tell us that her daughter was driving her crazy and would be back. When she finally did return she took our drink order, after a long wait she brought the drinks to our table asked if we wanted bread to which we said yes please. Mean while the couple that came in after us behind my wife had a different waiter that had their drinks, bread, appetizer and dinner before we even placed our dinner order. My wife pointed to what she wanted on the specials menu when the waitress said huh when my wife said what she wanted. She turned to me and asked what I wanted and I picked up the menu to look at what I wanted and when I looked up to tell her she was behind me talking to someone, she came back and said what was that, I tried to tell her again and again she looked away and talked to the hostess. It was the third attempt when she finally took enough time to listen to me. When she finally brought the dinner my wife's soup showed up first then my dinner and when the second part of my wife's dinner came it was wrong. They returned the wrong dinner to the kitchen and said that the correct item would be right out. After a 30 minute wait I put my credit card on the table and asked for the check. She scooped up the card and brought the slip to sign but with no pen. I had to ask the other waiter for a pen. I left no tip, signed the check and we ended up leaving without ever receiving my wife's second part of her meal that was supposed to be boxed up for us to take home. My wife had the Fruiti di Mare and was still hungry when she finished, so she ordered a lasagna entrée which she said was also meager. We were able to get last minute reservations on a Friday night, which was a nice surprise as we have wanted to try this place for awhile. The restaurant is very small and table configurations make it seem tighter. Although it did take a few short minutes for anyone to acknowledge us when we first walked in, we were seated promptly afterwards. We were at a table right next to the window, which is pretty much the entire wall of one side of the restaurant. The window was very drafty so I was somewhat chilled throughout my entire meal. This is probably a great feature in the summer but in the winter, it was not as pleasant. Service was decent -- let's say they got their job done but not much else by way of personality. The food was pretty good, with the exception of one dish. An appetizer special of stuffed calamari turned out to be exceptionally fishy. It was the stuffing -- my guess is that the fish/shellfish used in the stuffing was not as fresh as it should have been. I conveyed this to our server but nothing came out of it. As other reviews have stated, the meatballs were the clear winner for us. My pasta with housemade sausage was good but a little on the oily side. My husband had the Veal Milanese; good but nothing to write home about. If you stick around for dessert, they do a fabulous cannnoli (house made filling, I believe). Hefty prices in my opinion for the food quality -- probably due to its touristy location. I think Cafe Strega is a place where you go for very particular dishes (like the meatballs) and that is it. read more

Did not love our first experience here. Asked to be sat at a nice table for our 28th Anniversary. Sat in a tight corner with dirty windows. We ordered the Cafe Strega salad to share. Great. Then about 20 minutes later server brought us the same salad. She seemed perpetually confused all night. My husband ordered the special with risotto and chicken. Chicken was the size of a half breast and dry, with no flavor. Risotto was good. I had rolled veal, flavor was great but again, portions are quite small for the price. I have dined here a few times prior, however it is unlikely that I will be back. Started off with a cosmo and it came out missing the classic taste of a cosmo, it was missing triple sec, lime juice, and had little cranberry. Friend ordered a Pinot Grigio and was served a Sauvignon Blanc. When I asked for the drinks to be remade the waitress replied "that's how we make them here but what would you like added?" The food came out room temp, barely warm. 2 chicken parmigiana and an eggplant parmigiana felt like the food sat in the window too long. Tried to order a chocolate martini for dessert however the waitress insisted that the cappuccino martini was the same thing even though I had ordered a chocolate martini on a prior visit. I opted out of a second drink at this point and the cappuccino martini still was ordered and brought to the table at which point we had to send it back and explain that we had never actually ordered the drink and that the waitress clearly misunderstood. A different waitress came over with our bill and took off the cappuccino martini and fixed the second messed up wine s as we were delivered another Sauvignon blanc instead of the Pinot Grigio as was ordered. The original waitress made us completely uncomfortable throughout the meal. read more

This is based on take out, not eating in. I've given this restaurant a few tries for take out and found the portions to be small and the food (usually chicken or veal parm) to be fair ie nothing outstanding. It is more expensive than Mama Mias and you get larger portions and the food is just as tasty there. I also prefer Olive Garden to Strega for take out (salad comes with your meal there). read more

Extremely overpriced for absolutely frozen and microwaved food. The stuffed zucchini blossoms sounded delicious at 16 dollars, especially for an appetizer, but came out in less than 5 minutes. Frozen solid in the middle and burning hot on the outside. I would suggest anywhere else, as long as they don't serve frozen food. Servers were friendly enough when we told them we were all set and didn't want the rest of the food, as we knew it would all be reheated on the slow Saturday we ate there, which accounts for the two starts. We were looking for a nice family dinner before our oldest went back to college... our trip to Cafe Strega was anything but. We paid for a very overpriced meal that had slow service and was not made with fresh ingredients. I don't understand how there are repeat customers. The drinks were good and that was the best part of the meal. We ordered salads and the waitress came back that there was no Caesar salad as they were out of romain! This should have been our first clue as it was 6pm on a Friday night in August. My husband ordered the beef carpaccio as a substitute. What was delivered to our table was thinly sliced deli roast beef covered by lettuce and shaved cheese!?!?! My salad looked like it sat in the fridge uncovered for a few hours... our daughter's caprese salad had the saddest looking tomatoes. My fusilli with broccoli rabe was served in pasta water? no flavor - no zip - no taste. Horrible. My husband's zuppa seafood had maybe 3 clams 3 tiny shrimp 6 mussels with toasted bread... not fresh. I have been several times (as the food is good for Plymouth but it is very noisy). I have learned from going that there is 1 table I ask for when making reservation which makes the noise tolerable. Well 3 weeks ago I made a reservation for that table. I was assured that table would be reserved for me, needless to say when I arrived last night 2/16 at 6:30 the table was not available. Management clearly could care less that they messed up my reservation. read more

Warm, inviting, comfortable atmosphere. The food is delicious here. Lollipop lamb chops cooked to perfection. The meatballs are tender with a delicate tomato sauce. Awesome crusty bread. Last Saturday evening we had a beautiful dinner at Cafe Strega. We were seated right away at a beautiful little table for two. We were greeted immediately by our lovely waitress named Ashley. She was so professional and kind with an amazing personality. We started off with the Caprese salad which was delicious, accompanied by the fresh homemade bread with olive oil. Our meals were just amazing and so flavorful as well. My boyfriend had the spaghetti Al Frutti Di Mare which was outstanding. I had the Rigatoni Bolognese. My meal was absolutely delicious as well. The portions are very big so you may end up taking half of your meal home like I did. We shared a raspberry sorbet and had a cappuccino too. (Yummy)! The owner was so kind and pleasant asking us how we enjoyed our meal, and said he was looking forward to seeing us again soon. This was our second trip to Strega and as with the first experience we truly enjoyed all aspects. The main courses were delicious, perfectly sized and reasonable. The bruschetta was kind of bland but the bread was lovely. I just needed more seasoning or something. We split a bottle of wine and both had a dessert. The bill was about $95.00 which for a nice view, good food, friendly service and a lively north end type atmosphere seems spot on for me. Cannot wait for our third dining experience! read more

I have been wanting to go to Cafe Strega for awhile now and finally did a few weeks ago. I thought the atmosphere was very comfortable, but romantic too. I love the windows around the restaurant, too. Parking wasn't difficult; we parked across the street in a small public lot. My date and I arrived around 7:30pm that evening and were seated immediately. We were served our drinks and bread basket very soon after. For an appetizer, we shared the "homemade meatballs in plum tomato sauce" (polpette gratinate della casa, $9.95). The meatball was so delicious and fluffy, not too dense at all. For an entree, I had the "fusilli pasta with homemade sausage and broccoli w/ EVOO and garlic" (fusilli con salsiccia e broccoli di rapi, $12.95). I loved the dish, especially the homemade sausage. My date had the "pan-fried Provimi veal cutlet served with mixed green salad" (cotoletta alla milanese, $18.95). He enjoyed it, but it was probably the biggest cutlet I've ever seen. The portions at this restaurant were very large. We both packed up our entrees to save room for dessert. We decided on the Exotic Bomba, which included "fruit punch sorbet balls covered in white chocolate with a milk chocolate drizzle." I thought it was very fruity, but nice with the chocolate. It was definitely fun to try a dessert that I'm not accustomed to. Hopefully we will return here soon. There were many items on the menu that I'd like to try, but I will probably order the meatball as an appetizer again...it was so good! Went there based there on the reviews. Dirty table cloths with lipstick stains??? It has an old early bird special feel with a Mexican vibe. The decor is just terrible blue/yellow with crusty chairs that are probably from the early 80's. Ordered sausage and pasta dish no flavor tasted like paste. Ordered a glass of wine and it had stuff floating in it. Told the waitress and she blamed it on the cork. How about you own up to the fact that your glasses are dirty and stop making excuses?? Visited Cafe Strega tonight for the first time, following great Yelp reviews. Loved our meal. Asked about spaghetti and meatballs, often mentioned on Yelp, and though it's not listed on the menu, it is offered for $13.95 and well worth it! We also ordered the chicken saltimbocca,... divine! Extensive wine list too. Great service at this Family owned and run restaurant. We were seated at a lovely table for two alongside a window with a view of the park and the ocean in the distance. Both the food and service were wonderful. What could be improved upon? The windows! Two walls of windows that really needed washing, inside and out The streaks took something away from the overall ambiance. The restaurant is clean, don't get me wrong, but the glass needed work. Also, I'd suggest serving the pasta in a rimmed bowl instead of a pie plate- it would make for a much better presentation. Strega is a good place to go for dinner in Plymouth, relative to the other local options. As an Italian, I'd seriously disagree with the claim that its food is authentically Italian. Italian-American perhaps, but that's entirely different from being truly Italian. On my first trip there, I had a decent experience. Our waiter was very nice, refined and professional (certainly a rare find in most other Plymouth restaurants!), and I enjoyed my meal as much as I could, considering it was veal. I'm not a huge veal-eater, and I was disappointed that veal made up so much of the menu's (non-pasta) entrees. I think this restaurant should definitely diversify its menu a bit and lay off of the veal, but overall, I had a good dining experience there... and I'm grateful for that, considering what the rest of the restaurants in Plymouth are like! read more

Nice view, good service. Meatball app is good but not the best ever. Bread and garlicky olive oil were delicious. Our wine choice $38, a Chiantia Riserva was very nice, I think priced fairly. The Veal Parmigiana was ok not really memorable, tomato sauce good. We should have had a salad and split an entree. Hubby had Zuppa di Crostinacci it was lousy, sandy clams, mussels, rubbery calamari and a way to heavy tomato sauce not a broth style at all. Didn't mention it to the server, but really were never asked about the how the meals were. We were tourists, won't be visiting this area again, so you decide. read more

Went here for the first time a few weeks ago. Sat at the bar which is a little small but has a nice, intimate feel. The bartender was very helpful and made our drinks very quickly. The drinks were well priced and weren't made weak like some other restaurants in the area. I got a tortellini dish from the dinner specials menu and was pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious and came out quickly. Both my friend and I enjoyed our meals. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was that the bread tasted a little old.
