Got the cream tea - scones and unlimited tea for $15. Scones were a little on the small side but super yummy and the clotted cream (made in house!) and jam were perfect on them. The tea comes in french press pots which is perfect for two people, but for one person the second cup can be bitter with all the leaves still in the water. The outside patio area was the loveliest spot to sit and have my tea and read my book. I foresee myself spending quite a few summer afternoons here. read more

This place must have a hundred of different variety of teas. I should clarify that not all of their teas are specific varieties. More of tea leaves mixed with other things like cacao or flowers or dried berries, etc... Cute little shop. But let me tell you about the star of the show. It is there scone with clotted cream. Freshly baked scones that are slightly crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. I've never been a fan of scones and maybe it's because the scones that I've ever had were crumbly and pastie in the mouth. I never had a proper scone until Pippas. Having just gotten into tea in the last year or so ... hey I'm a Seattle brat and self professed coffee snob... I have made it a new fun thing to find a tea shop on every trip I take. There is this great sensory scent bar they have created at the front of the shop to allow you to smell all the different blends. The categories are broken down into how you would drink them rather than ingredients which we found really smart and helpful... even though we pretty much went through all of them. You can sample or order blends that you like and purchase a pouch to go. We found each of ours for about $8 for a very good amount. If you wander to the back of the shop there is a small, relaxing very zen seating area that invites you to loose yourself in time and your tea. Give yourself a good hour to really enjoy Pippa's. I had never been to Port Townsend before, but when I found out that a British hip-hop artist I follow would be in town for some Brass Screw event, my partner and I made plans to go. Now, you might not see how that relates to a proper cuppa, but the artist in question gained international fame rapping about "A Cup of Brown Joy." So, when my British partner and I saw Pippa's, we knew we needed to stop in. Their selection of tea is well suited, and my partner and I quickly relaxed to a cream tea featuring a pot of their Builder's Brew. Really, the only complaint I have is that we didn't plan in advance, and reserve an actual full tea. Something we certainly will do the next time we visit. read more

What a delightful surprise! Pippa and her crew made a very warm and inviting experience for us. We had 3 adults and 2 Bichons and sat on the beautiful new back deck. The tea was delicious. Love this place! First of all, Pippa is a gem. She is just a total sweetheart and it's clear that she loves what she does! Secondly, the tea is heavenly. When I walked up to the register, I told the girl that I had no idea where to start (there is literally a wall full of tea). She asked me what teas I normally like, and picked out a couple for me to smell. I tried the "Pearls of Wisdom" jasmine green tea and it was amazing! They even give you little timers to make sure it steeps for the proper time. Finally, the cafe has a wonderful atmosphere. I could totally see myself camping out for a few hours, ordering a pot or two of tea, and getting some work done or reading a book by the fireplace. In the summer, I believe the back is open, so you can sit outside. Go to Pippa's! It's delightful! read more

I am more than pleased to take the time to write a review for an outstanding business or to give fellow yelpers a warning of a less than good business. This business is OUTSTANDING! Months ago my partner and I were winding down a visit to Port Townsend and he began to act a little cranky. You know like those commercials with Betty White, then they feed her snickers bar and she becomes a real person again. I recognized the symptoms and he needed a pick me up, a.k.a. caffeine. That's when we stumbled across 'Pippa's Real Tea' in Port Townsend. You are immediately made to feel welcome even though it's your very first visit. Everyone working there has a vast knowledge of the products they sell. There is a huge smelling wall, where you are allowed to smell all the teas they sell. We've grown to really like PRT so much that it's a must on every visit to Port Townsend. Everyone that works there is very charming, kind and knowledgeable. Of course Pippa herself is a true Port Townsend treasure. If she doesn't leave you smiling, you just might need a little therapy and a hot cup of tea. read more

Probably the best in this area. Pippa's taught me the difference between fresh tea with flavors added and stale tea with flavor masking the actual flavors of the tea. I usually have the tea scone, which is quite small, but filling. Believe me, you only need one! Most importantly, Pippa's is SANITARY. The floor is swept and the tables are clean. It is not staffed by angry, odd-looking basement dwellers who are too cool to serve you. In fact, there is even a fireplace, and actual art on the walls. Unlike many tea houses in the area, the place is gender-neutral. By this, I mean it does not appear an Edwardian period drama exploded all over the establishment. My favorite teas are the Earl Grey Cream and Spice It Up. Pippa also delivers, if you are local. read more

Customer service non existent in the front. Tea bar seats were empty and as a traveling pair from Denver we wanted to know more about their offerings before ordering. Instead we were asked "did you get in line and place your order"? When I answered with a no, I was Told to go "smell from the wall". I was not interested in smelling. I was interested in asking questions before purchasing and tasting. Very rude so we left and declined to make any purchase at all. I'm sure the teas are great but a opportunity to sit and discuss before going to the "wall" would have been the proper customer oriented experience. The tea looked delicious, but unfortunately the service was so bad that I was never able to try it. I sat down at the bar with my husband and daughter, and waited for about 10 minutes while the staff bustled around us, studiously ignoring us. The owner was there and also didn't stop to serve us. Finally, when we were getting up to leave, she asked if we had been helped - we said no. The tea and food looks good, but the owner is rude both to customers and to her own staff. read more

One of the better places I've had tea in the States. But the thing is, tea in the States is almost universally a poor experience, and I'm not reviewing based on "what could I get elsewhere in reasonable driving distance?" I'm reviewing based on questions of whether this is a quality cream tea and whether or not the price, at $16 per person, is worth it. Let's address the first question: Is this a quality cream tea? Well, the clotted cream is good, I'll give them that. I've had a go at making my own before, and theirs is a good effort. Unfortunately, the dairy products we have access to in the US make clotted cream a bit of a challenge, as we can't get cream with a high enough fat percentage, generally speaking, and in many parts of the country it's impossible to (legally) buy unpasteurized milk, which is important to making good clotted cream. So, positive marks here -- glad to have proper clotted cream. On the other hand, we were advised that cream tea was "fancy," which doesn't line up to the reality in England, where you can find a cream tea in small, casual cafes and tea rooms tucked into nearly every corner. And the quality of the tea was... fine. It was fine. It's perhaps a bit worse than you'll find at decent tea rooms in England, but certainly better than what you'll find at non-specialty retailers in the States. But at sixteen bucks a pop, I'd like better tea. Most Americans won't know the difference, though, and this will likely be better tea than they're used to. And the scones were tasty, but small. A half-decent cream tea, then, but in England it would fall somewhere between a museum cafe and a village tea room. And is it worth it? Well, again, the tea was good-not-great and the scones were small. $16pp is too much for what they ask. One other niggle: The waitress delivered our scones, cream, and jam, and as my girlfriend went to put cream on scone, advised us that the proper order was scone-jam-cream. And, look -- I agree with her. I'm a jam-first man, not least because the cream will go soft and melty when in contact with a freshly-baked scone. But if you visit Claridge's in London and ask them whether you should do cream first or jam first, they'll tell you it's a matter of taste, and there's no one correct way. To her credit, when my girlfriend interrupted and said, "I'm a cream-first person," she joked back, "Ah, a Cornwaller!" Generally speaking, Cornwall is cream-first country, whilst in Devon it's jam-first. Still, it felt a bit patronizing. In the end, too-small-but-yummy scones and good clotted cream, with a pot of passable tea does the job better than most places in the States, so if you've really got a craving for a cream tea, Pippa's will, if it doesn't wholly satisfy your urge, at least buy you some time until you can fit a trip to England into the budget. It's just too expensive for what it is -- but scarcity lets you charge these prices. read more

Smell. Taste. Buy. What a cute shop. All of their teas line shelves in their entryway. They are organized by type (caffeinated, not caffeinated, etc.). Just pick interesting ones off of the shelves for a sniff. If anything strikes your fancy, you can then sample it at the tea bar for $2.50 cup. And, if you're like me, you'll need to buy a few teas, which come in reusable pouches - you heard that right - reusable pouches - so environmentally aware. I had to get two herbal teas: "Make Mine Mango" and "Ginger Turmeric" (a customer favorite). The peach tea was really good too. read more

It is the best scone I ever had in my lifetime It was prepared like the way the English would serve it to you (the owner is English). If you are a tea enthusiast, this is definitely a place to stop by when you are in town. It's small, but cozy and clean. Great selection of teas, and I love the way they are organized. Also some of the best scones I've ever had in my life. They come with delicious jam and clotted cream, I prefer devonshire cream because I'm addicted to sugar but this clotted cream is still amazing. Thick and almost buttery. The sandwiches are also sooo good. I had a reuben here my first time and I still can't get over how good it was months later. And best of all... great prices. I have very little money to put toward a 'day out', but at least I can get a pot of tea and some scones from time to time. read more

I am a tea drinker, and this place does not disappoint if you love tea. Incredible variety of teas to choose from, And Pippa is sheer delight, gives you her personal tea recommendations and talks to you about the teas. The sandwiches and desserts we had were delicious. Once a month live music at lunch time is sweet also, and there is a lovely back patio. I have heard they have high tea every Saturday at 1 and 3 pm which requires reservations, and I am looking forward to trying that! Atmosphere inside was a little disappointing though, I would have preferred a more traditional "English Tea time" atmosphere with a little more elegance, rather than the modern sparse furniture, plastic napkin holders. But very clean, and very friendly. read more

We visited Pippa and her wonderful tea room on a Sunday afternoon-four adults, one baby, and a golden retriever. What a wonderful warm welcome from Pippa and her staff. The tea was excellent and brewed to perfection and the scones with jam and clotted cream were simply delicious. I am guessing there are over 50 loose leaf teas to choose from. And I love the individual brewing devices (not exactly tea pots) and glass beakers they are served in. My husband and I decided to visit Port Townsend for a date night per se, it was our very first time coming to this tucked away town. Let me just say AWESOME PLACE! They are very welcoming and helpful, from the soft jazz playing in the background and adorned hum of other customers to the knowledge they have of their teas are OUTSTANDING! I have spoken with the ladies with certain teas we preferred and right of the bat she knew the PERFECT suggestions that had us buying more! The atmosphere is not your typical place but yet absolutely refreshing, I could say definitely modern with a perfect dusting of class. The tea is delicious and we ordered the cheese platter (I have gluten and lactose intolerance) which they over heard me say to my husband, they ended up adding gluten free crackers which I happily suffered the stomach ache from such beautiful variety of cheeses that AGAIN they were able to describe so eloquently that i was drooling as I waited!
