My in laws hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner at cafe tivoli on November 25th 2016 in the downstairs private party room. They allowed us to arrive a few hours early and set up decorations and while I was there they even made me gnocchi and brought out fresh bread since I'm pregnant and hadn't had anything to eat running around for wedding errands! The wait staff was amazing and catered to every need I had. The food was wonderful and all of my 53 guests agreed! Highly recommend for great Italian food! Good Italian food made by traditional Italians. This was a favorite place for my family to host events at when i was growing up. We recently went back after numerous years and were delighted to find that while some of the faces had changed the food and experience had not. Its not what my mind remembers it to be but its perfect for lunch or a quite dinner with loved ones. They do still host parties in their banquet room. read more

This place was perfect for a repass dinner. We had a private room that was spacious enough for 40 guests. We had 8 food options at the buffet that were all delicious. The staff was extremely friendly (and kid-friendly)! The waiters were very attentive. When the dinner was over, they packaged the rest of the buffet food for our family to take back home with us. I saw some local commercials for this joint and they keep sending me 20% coupons in the mail...in my world, that usually means this place should suck. It doesn't. It's good. Really good. I never like to compare places in Jersey with New York because that's no contest, (the water really does make all the difference)....but this place is good enough to hold its own pretty well on the city side of the Hudson. Don't be fooled by what I thought was a ritzy, banquet hall exterior..the place definitely looks like it's $30-per-plate from the outside. My family and I use to basically eat there 5 days a week when it was Stancato's on tonnelle ave in North Bergen. My sister and our great great grandmother, our mothers grandmother developed cervical cancer at the age of 99, imagine? Long and the short of the story after nites of hospital visits for about a month she passed on. Of course my mom didn't feel like cooking after so we would go there for dinner this was 1986, my favorite was always veal franchise with roasted potatoes. My sister chicken parm with spaghetti, my mom ( rest her soul ) and dad I don't recall. Then they decided to close up that location and move to Ridgefield on shaler Blvd. The quality of the food stayed the same for awhile, it was definitely a bigger building so they branched out to doing a lot of parties. My new favorite became a sandwich breaded veal with fresh mozzarella and roasted peppers and Italian dressing on fresh crispy Italian bread, the best. As time went on though and the head chef got older and started working less the food went a little down hill,as I guess it happens at all places. I wouldn't not recommend going there of course to much history at both locations for me, I guess things can't stay the same forever. read more

I can't go more than three stars based on one visit for lunch; but it made a good first impression. If it was closer to home, I might try it with my wife. Not a fancy dining room but white tablecloth, a good waiter. Background music was set too low to notice. Popular - the parking lot was half full. Stopped by with a coworker. I had a Caesar salad with grilled chicken - nice enough and only $8.95 at lunch. He had the ziti with sausage - looked good enough - also only $8.95. Excellent bread. read more

I hosted a surprise 30th birthday party here in the upstairs room. The room is a great size at an affordable price for a larger group of people. The party was from 1-5 and they allowed me to come in at 10am to setup. I decided to have a buffet and the food was above my expectations. Everyone especially loved the pizza appetizer and the veal marsala. They were able to accommodate dietary requests for vegan guests. Overall, I would recommend hosting a party here. read more

Great staff, good service and delicious food. The couple of times I've been here I ordered there eggplant parmigiana with tortellini. It's pretty good. And I love their warm bread. One of my favorite desserts is tiramisu and theirs is delicious. Can't wait to come back to try some other dishes. read more

I've been coming here for years. Their fried calamari is the BEST I've ever had and you can order anything off the menu and it's always fantastic. My favorites are the chicken marsala and the eggplant rollatini. Their bread is really good too -- always fresh and warm. They're also good for catering and for hosting parties. My family used their party room once for my grandparents' golden anniversary. Bottom line: Excellent food and excellent service. read more

This is our second time here. The first time was good. Decent food, fair prices. Our Christmas Eve dinner, however was not. Hopefully someone from the restaurant is reading this - I will never go back, and here is why... We arrived four an early (5 PM) dinner, and found they had a special (read: very limited) holiday menu. It would have been nice if the person who took the reservations had mentioned that, but not a big deal. It was however a harbinger of what was to come. So we sat down, the waiter took the drink order. He seemed nice enough, and the drinks came out rather quickly. Turns out the Sprite fountain was out of syrup so one daughter got a seltzer. Once again, not a big deal, it happens. So we ordered appetizers and entrees, also without a hitch. I ordered the steak, which I thought came with potatoes (they were "extra" but I got them so one of my kids could have two - see below). So after a while they appetizers came out, without a hitch. We finished them, and then sat. And sat. And sat. All the while with a stack of plates on the edge of the table waiting to be picked up. Busboys and our waiter passed by a few times, empty handed, but didn't take them. They were nice enough to take them when they came with the entrees. Three of four we ordered. About 5 minutes later, the waiter came out with my steak, which I ordered medium rare. I am far from an expert, but I can tell a barely cooked steak when I see it. It was literally oozing red. I cut it open and it was raw inside. I have a pretty high tolerance for redness, and I would have accepted rare, but this was raw. So after about 5 minutes I was able to catch the waiter, and showed it to him. I don't remember what he said, but it was nothing that most people would have said, like, "sorry about that, I will have it right back to you" or something. And he took it. After 10 minutes, I knew it was not good. After 15 minutes it got annoying. Somewhere around the 20 minute mark he reappeared. Well done. You could tell by looking at it. I cut it open, well done. Not medium, not medium well, but well done. Of course the waiter didn't stick around, like any normal person would, to make sure it was okay for the customer, he had vanished. I actually had to flag down the waiter for the neighboring table, to get our waiter. Our waiter took it, and while walking away, casually asked, "do you want another one?" Having worked in my fair share of restaurants while in college, there is one golden rule I always follow. Never send anything back, twice. Ever. I would expand that to include ordering the same dish, having sent a prior one back twice. After that... silence. No one came by to say, sorry. Can we get you something else. Not the waiter, not the host, not the manager, no one. Not a peep. Then the waiter seemed to refuse to come back, and the busboy (who was perfectly nice) took our dessert order, and brought the check too. They did remove the steak, but they billed me 4 bucks for a side of potatoes, which I think were supposed to be included. We put the money down for the check and... nothing... 5 minutes. 10 minutes, nothing. At 15 minutes I walked the check up to the front to pay. No one bothered asking why I was bringing it up myself, not a word. I really have to say I was disappointed. The food is okay, basic Italian, and is fairly priced. Orders get messed up, steaks get overcooked, the world is an imperfect place, it happens. But the follow up was atrocious. And even though it was Christmas Eve, the place was not packed yet, so it was completely inexcusable. I have to say it was really the worst service I have had in over 10 years, and I eat out at least once a week. Go to White Castle, you'll get better service. Never again. Thanks for ruining my Christmas Eve dinner guys. read more

This is a small restaurant, but the service was very good and the staff was very nice. I ordered the veal meals which were served with potatoes. I was there for a special, private event, and felt that they served different food or mix and match food when it is a private affair. Was there yesterday on 7-1- 18 for baby shower on the second floor food was very good we had two waiters there was one went by the name Oscar who was terrific the other we did not get his name a younger fellow who was one of the worst Waiters I have ever encountered in a establishment so rude was slamming things down had attitude never said you're welcome when people said thank you quite a few of the guess noticed his attitude from the very beginning it's such a shame that a nice establishment with good food but with such a poor staff member would never go back there again!!!!or recommend that place to anyone read more

I've been here many times for at least10 years now. We've been here for a meal, or for anniversary parties and wedding receptions. The Italian food is good. I've been happy with all the food I've had (one exception...keep reading). The drinks are good too. My husband really loves their Manhattan. The only complaint that I have is that the salad on multiple occasions have had bugs In them. I'm not sure if they are washing the lettuce properly or what, but that just really really turns me off. Ten years ago When I lived in Pal Park and Fort Lee, My hubby and I were regulars here. We now visit once a year, but must say they are consistently GOOD! Now take the family and the CVS is still my favorite and the crab pasta dish is wonderful. Save room for the chocolate chocolate cake. Yum how I missed it. Love the local family feel. Also was there yesterday for my daughters baby shower and the one waiter was very rude. He looked so annoyed the guest would say thank you and you got no response from him. My mom asked him if he could bring another pitcher of Sprite to the table and he had the nerve to ask her to bring the empty pitcher to him.. Of course my mother did not.This Waiter needs to understand that his attitude represents the restaurant. Its a shame cause we been having party at Cafe Tivoli for many many years and never had this kind of problem. Some of the other guest came up to me and said that he was very rude. I had my Baby shower there yesterday and all I can say was that it was beautiful. From the room, to the food, everything went perfect. They started with the salad and cold antipasto then went to the fried calamari, pizza and fried shrimp.
