Another gem in La Jolla. Owned by a husband and wife who serve high quality and fresh healthy food. I always get the chickanini and house salad. They use the best ingredients, the pesto on the sandwich is delicious and the dressing and soft goat cheese are crave-able. I bring all my guests here for lunch and like to pick up a sandwich on my way to the beach. Coffee and breakfast is great too. So we live in Lajolla and have walked passed this GEM on way too many occasions without stopping in and trying it. Today we stopped in for a late breakfast and WOW! The food was amazing! We had a veggie omelette and a fabulous mixed green salad with three eggs sunny side up on top of it..... YUMMY!! ...and very creative. The presentation was equally impressive. Not gonna lie, my impression on the outside of this little hideaway was nothing like I expected! One day, perhaps we'll be able to eat breakfast peacefully without being bombarded by staff and customers loudly discussing politics and playing videos about it. Whatever side of the spectrum you're on, I don't come to your restaurant to hear about politics. We just want to eat food, and preferably not on styrofoam or single-use plastic items damaging to the environment. This is a hidden gem. The outside of the building is not as appealing as some other outdoor patio restaurants but don't let that deter you. I was highly impressed with my experience here. I believe It was the owner who helped us I'm not for sure but he was so kind and helpful. We felt welcomed right away. The inside is neat with lots of photography on the wall. I tried the new sun dried tomato pesto panini and my boyfriend has the pastrami. When you eat in the restaurant, the sandwiches come with a tasty refreshing salad. I loved the dressing It came with. If you're in the area and need a simple, no nonsense bite to eat, Vahiks is your place. Their menu is short and sweet and each item on it is fantastic. Their prices may seem a bit high, but considering the area and the portion size I think they are fair. My newest favorite addiction is the Ham Diegan. The ingredients are all great quality - he doesn't skimp on anything. The apricot mayo.....its ridiculously good. I'd also highly recommend the Vahik House salad. Again, the ingredients are all great and very fresh tasting. They aren't light on the goat cheese and the addition of pine nuts and some of the best cherry tomatoes I've ever had really seals the deal. My friend had a bagel sandwich with goat cheese and spinach in her eggs that she said was delicious. I didn't realize they closed at 4:30 otherwise I would have eaten dinner here. I have heard nothing but great things about the food, so I'll be back to grab a bite to eat and to do some early work. Street parking is easy, no time limits which means you can park for more than 2 hours (that's rare in La Jolla). Amazing food, get here very early as parking is a big challenge. The french toast was probably the best french toast I've ever had. The coffee cake was also amazing. Huge portions, so two people could easily share. For what it's worth, the other plates that we saw come out, all looked equally amazing. We will definitely be back here on our next trip. The display is great, colorful and looks yummy; however, I thought it looked a lot better than it tasted. If you look at the actual ingredient, there's not much there. Felt pretty healthy which was good but not as tasty as it looks and as I'd hope. The sauce tasted similar to Italian dressing and a tad on the salty side. My wife and I were on a weekend getaway and spent 3 days in the beautiful town of La Jolla so share some well need time together, we visited this Cafe' shop on 3 out of the four days that we were there and experienced some openly Blanton amount of disrespect! Not only as a customer, but as Afro American couple. On 3/27/2021 we ordered 2 coffees and one turkey panini sandwich, and we really didn't pay to much attention of the time that it had taken for our order to be ready, although we did take note that there were only ourselves and one other person who had ordered on this particular morning so we shrugged off and went on about our morning. On 3/28/2021 when we arrived we noticed that the crowd had picked up quite a bit and we had arrived just ahead of the morning rush and had placed our identical order from the previous morning, well after placing our order we noticed that there were a flood of orders being placed and all while we were patient and understanding up until we had noticed that people that had come in after us started receiving their orders and walking out of the establishment. So at this time my wife had to go and ask about our order and to be told " in 5 minutes " so we waited an additional 10 minutes and my wife again went to go and check on our order and to be told " we're making it right now " Mind you we counted a total of five customers that had placed orders after ours, pay and leave. We finally got our order. On 3/29/2021 we were undecided if we wanted to go back to this same coffee shop and experience the same amount of disrespect, but I wanted to make sure that I was reading this amount of disrespect and prejudice that was attempting to ruin our lovely weekend that we were having with ourselves, so yes we gave it another opportunity to present itself with some kind of dignity to redeem themselves of their ignorance. Well America, there will be no 5-star rating coming from this Black couple We arrived back at the cafe' and surprisingly on this day it reflects the same day as when we had first walked in, calm, slow and only one other customer walked in and placed an order after I had placed our order, so tell me why upon paying for our order the owner " the same man from all 3 days " rings up the White man first and gives him his order then rings me up after? I myself am a Military Veteran of the United States Navy you do not have to spell out racism for me when I have sailed around the entire world and have encountered thousands of people and different cultures!
