I ordered the turkey bacon sandwich and asked for no lettuce, asked if i could switch from mayo to pesto and was told it would be $2 extra! For a different sauce?! When I got my sandwich it had lettuce so I told the girl that I asked for no lettuce, she said she did not hear me... weird cuz it was the first thing I said. She took the sandwich back and gave it back without the lettuce, same everything so she basically took it off when i could have just done that myself. On Monday, November 10, I had the pleasure of trying Lark and Owl for the first time after my hot Pilates class. I ordered the chicken Caesar wrap with a side of chips, and it was absolutely incredible -- super flavorful and fresh. The service was just as impressive. We were very clear that my 94-year-old mother has an allergy to onions and garlic. We even requested that they use a clean knife to cut her BLT sandwich. But instead of plain lettuce ( the "L" in BLT), they put on a sort of salad dressed with Italian dressing that included onion and garlic. The young women serving us were not thoughtful enough to realize they should leave the dressing off because it contained onion/garlic. (Not to mention the fact that the menu does not say that the sandwich will have a salad on it, it says lettuce, which is what this classic sandwich should, in fact, have on it.) I also need to mention the bacon on both the BLT and the turkey & bacon sandwich. Where's the B in your BLT?! On close inspection, the bacon is cut in a small enough dice to seem pre-masticated... Chopped to within an inch of its life, it did not resemble bacon-especially when expecting a Bacon Lettuce & Tomato sandwich. Bad practices, and bad flavor. That's why only 1 star. read more

They were super busy, but the staff told us that and we appreciated the awareness, and we were lucky enough to get a table. The wait was worth it! Both of our items were absolutely amazing. I recently dined at Lark & Owl with my husband, cousin, and our dogs. It was the first time with our puppies eating out, so Lark & Owl was a perfect spot to test how they would do given the outdoor seating is spread out and that we could order ahead of time. I ordered through the Slice app and our food was ready when promised, maybe even earlier. The folks at Lark & Owl brought out our pizzas and a chicken parm sandwich. He offered us plates, but we just chose to eat from the pizza boxes. Grated parm and red pepper flakes were provided along with peppers for the chicken parm sandwich. My husband enjoyed his chicken parm. My cousin liked the philly pizza and I ordered the margarita with bacon. Not only did the pizza taste delicious, it looked great too! Service was very friendly. You can also order through UberEats or DoorDash to get it delivered, but if you're picking up, I recommend ordering through the Slice app. I did order once through DoorDash on a Saturday morning (after 10AM) and hoping to pick up after walking there, but they weren't open. My order was eventually canceled when it wasn't confirmed, but I wasn't notified by DoorDash until 20 minutes later when I was standing at Lark & Owl. So, I recommend calling ahead to make sure they are open since their website hours state they are open every day (pretty much all day). Note, they operate out of a kiosk, so seating is only outdoors on the sidewalk. read more

Lark & Owl is a kiosk stationed near one of the roundabouts along La Jolla Blvd in the Bird Rock neighborhood. The menu offered a range of smoothies, acai bowls, sandwiches, salads, and pizzas. A few tables were available near the establishment where you could enjoy your food and drink on-site. Given their location, I was impressed that they stay open until midnight because the foot traffic dwindles after sunset. My choices were The Vaccine for a beverage and a Pastrami sandwich. The smoothie consisted of orange juice, tangerine juice, mango, banana, and turmeric. The tangerine was a unique component as its juice is not one I have seen offered elsewhere. Tart and tangy would be the best way to describe the drink. As for the sandwich, their version was served on French bread instead of between two slices of bread like rye. Yellow mustard, provolone cheese, and onions were the accompaniments. It was more like a compact hoagie than a traditional pastrami sandwich that I have purchased at delicatessens. Overall, this place in my opinion is a solid meh. Overpriced, long wait times, staff not overly friendly, and other than açaí bowls there are no other vegan options. We ordered an acai bowl, eggplant Parmesan sandwich, and Italian sandwich. The açaí bow and eggplant parm were not very tasty in my opinion. The Italian sandwich was pretty good though. The portions are very large which is nice. But in my option, it would be better for them to charge less in price and give a smaller portion size. Avoid this place at all costs. I don't know who is making the food but it is subpar and I'm not trusting it. The workers seem like it is the first time working there and that they are confused. Ordered the Acai Bowl which came as two tasteless frozen lumps of açaí with a few pieces of banana that were coated with something thin and slimy (sugary water but definitely no real honey). We were always passing by Lark&Owl and wondering why there was always a line.... Today for the first time, we tried their offerings. 1. We got a cheese pizza. The tomato sauce and mozzarella ratio is spot on. The pizza dough is just delicious. Our kid loved and ate it with great appetite. 2. I got a Beef N Mozz sandwich. The beef is tender and well marinated. The combination of mozzarella and oregano with the beef is true to Mediterranean taste. Simple, lightly sauced and tasty. 3. My wife got a Philly cheese sandwich. It's probably one of the best takes on Philly cheese steak. Cheese to steak ratio is great and not greasy at all. Veggies in the sandwich elevate the Philly cheese to another level. 4. We got a Acai bowl. I have never tasted anything like theirs (even in Hawai'i).
