Such a great remote working spot! On the main strip in bird rock so really easy to find parking in a spot or in the surrounding neighborhood. The chocolate glazed donut was so delicious and not too sweet. The interior was gorgeous, so colorful with a good amount of tables for working at. This place is a one and done for me. My friend and I wanted to check out this coffee and donut shop in Bird Rock and will most likely not be back. I got the whipped iced coffee and with it having brown sugar in vanilla in it I thought it would be at least a little bit sweet and it was not. It was an $8 overpriced drink. And I got one cookie that I believe was five or $6 and it was very basic. I think I paid $16 in total for something mediocre. Also the service was very slow. My friend and I sat at a table and it took about 15 minutes for them to bring over our drinks and then we had to even ask about the cookie and donut which she should have handed us to us right away as they were right there at the counter. My friend got the donut that was blueberry I believe. And she said the flavor was good but the donut itself is very dry and heavy. They are more of a thick cake type donut. The decor is cute inside but that's all it has going for it. There is street parking and most of it's in a residential neighborhood. It was easy to find parking in the day but just know that that's how it is. They do not have a designated lot. read more

Cafe is nice and spacious, good seating and a nice bathroom! I stopped by today for some coffee and was very disappointed by the espresso & tonic for $8. Beauty and quality! This place is so gorgeous inside. It is a photo worthy location; the walls, dishes, food, and tables. Everything is so cute!! The food is amazing. So it's not just beauty but tastes amazing too! I had vegan avocado toast and my husband had the gringo breakfast sandwich both were so good, I honestly could've had another. The coffee matches everything else. It's displayed beautifully and tastes great. We couldn't help but get a donut appetizer. After ordering. You are free to find a place to sit. Unfortunately, all the tables were full, or many had to be cleaned. So we cleaned it up ourselves and handed the plates to staff. Once we sat down, the food didn't take long to get there. Parking wasn't hard to find, and it's in a great location where you could go for a walk after. This place is great for friends to get together, a breakfast date, or to bring the kiddos. read more

All I wanted was a doughnut and coffee. They took my order and money fast enough, I even included a 15% tip... Eventually, the doughnut came. I waited and waited more, but no coffee. I went to the counter to just get a cup of coffee.. I was told it would be coming. Walked here from Windansea to get coffee. What a quaint donut shop as you enter Bird Rock! Decor is pink with exotic green plants. I should've gotten a donut to go with my Cajeta Latte (delicious and creamy even with oat milk!) since I was at a donut shop but I opted for the V'ocado or Vegan Avocado Toast instead. Lots of amazing flavors in the focaccia bread and on top of the avocado: garlic, furikake, and cilantro. Service was efficient and quick. Really not sure why this restaurant chose this name. Stopped in early Sunday morning as they were opening. I wanted to bring home donuts and was surprised ( disappointed) they had a total of 3 types of donuts. I asked if more were coming but the answer was that those 3 varieties would be replenished. My 2 maple frosted donuts were $3.50 apiece! They were ok but at that rate it's $42/ dozen - I'll pass. The place looks more like a breakfast restaurant ( they start breakfast service at 8 AM) that sells a few varieties of donuts. Can't say they're a donut shop by any means. Girl behind counter wasn't particularly friendly. I've read a few other reviews with similar comments so maybe it wasn't just because it was early on a Sunday. Super cute donut & coffee shop in Bird Rock! I must say though, the breakfast sandwich was the star of the show! I ate every last bite and it was outstanding. They have a choice of 3 different ones- I went with the gringo (hillikers egg, American, crispy bacon, butter lettuce, Dijonaise and tomato jelly). It was so delicious! I got some donuts to go- there were only 4 options at the time so I got one of each. They were definitely good, but for the price nothing that special. They did have a nice reusable tote I got to hold the box. The cold brew coffee was to die for- great work there! The reason I didn't give 5 stars- it was expensive for what it was; $35 for a coffee, sandwich and 4 donuts. The other reason was that when I asked if the donuts that were on display were all they had left I was told yes. It was after noon, so i figured it was a sold out issue, but not even 5 minutes later they brought out 2 trays of fresh (hot) donuts. I would have much preferred to have one of those (flavor wise and how do you beat a fresh, warm donut?). Not deal breakers at all; but hence my reason for 4 stars versus 5. Was curious to try this place since I enjoy paradisea. I haven't tried the food yet - strictly here for donuts this time around - but am surprised by the mixed reviews. I thoroughly enjoyed the donuts, I just got the basics today to start off but thought the texture and taste were very nice. Pricey - yes, but it's a bird rock so that's sort of to be expected? The jelly was a bit tart (in a good way) and balanced nicely with the sweetness of the pastry. I really liked that it didn't taste like canned high fructose corn syrup cherries and it was like a real fruit jam. If Krispy Kreme is your ideal donut (super super sweet and very wispy) you may not like this style, the texture is dense and chewy and it's not overly sweet. Felt like a good, well made, classic donut. Definitely want to come back and try more things on the menu! read more

I came here having high hopes for this place as it's the sister restaurant of Paradisea (which was really good). However, Dodo bird donuts leaves much to be desired. First off, the server taking our order was not that friendly nor helpful when looking at their menu. I got the "spring cleanse" which was described as ginger, lemon, and honey. It turned out to be an overpriced, hot water with lemon and a hint of honey drink. I couldnt even taste any ginger. My bf got the turmeric latte with oat milk which was actually turmeric forward and tasty. Note to others, they only have decaffeinated espresso so half of their coffee menu is not decaf friendly. The only redeeming quality of this place was their decor (similar to that of paradisea) and their passion mango glaze donut. The passion mango glaze was bright and passion fruit-y and the donut was light and airy and not overly greasy. The passion mango glaze was similar to the passion soft serve that paradisea serves for dessert. I bet re-use of the same prep since these two restaurants share the same space. Overall, skip Dodo bird donuts and just spend your money at paradisea, much better service at paradisea. read more

What happened? So disappointed with the service and that crap I got to-go yesterday. It was literally disgusting and I don't say this often. I have been a couple of times and absolutely loved the atmosphere, decor, coffee and the chocolate donut I had in the past. I went yesterday while walking around Bird Rock and thought about getting 3 donuts for my boyfriend and I for after lunch. First the girl was unfriendly, unwelcoming and didn't feel the vibe like before. They only have 3 varieties so I chose the plain donut I know they are gluten free and have a different texture and flavor. However, when I reached my boyfriend with my cute pink box and he directly spit after the first bite, then trash. I tried the second one and it was hard like a rock and unbearably bitter. These are not cheap, I wasted $16 and felt like I didn't deserve to be there. Please reconsider service and quality. read more

The adjacent space to the west of the hostess stand at Paradisaea is the home of this newly opened donut shop. The interior decor of the lounge seating area has the same retro '70s look as the bar and restaurant. Four types of donuts (Glazed, Sugar, Fancy, and Filled) were available on rotation in different flavors. Other menu categories included coffee, tea, matcha, chai, bone broth, soft serve, and happy hour libations. There were three donut varieties on display during my visit. I chose one of each (Apple Buckwheat, Glazed, Devil's Food) for my to-go order. The simple glazed was the best tasting one of the bunch. These cake-style donuts were small and should have been priced lower than the range of $4 to $4.75 apiece. Most of the top gourmet donut purveyors in town charge less for larger products so I can't say the value was good here. That hasn't stopped customers from buying though because when I stopped by at a later time on another day, the donuts were sold out. If you live or work in the Bird Rock neighborhood, then Dodo Bird Donut is a convenient stop because I don't know of another coffee and donut spot on this block. For higher quality donuts at equivalent or even cheaper prices, I would recommend trying some of the North County shops. read more

Stopped by on a rainy Saturday morning for breakfast and coffee. We enjoyed the beautifully decorated cafe which had plenty of seating for families, couples, and even those who wanted to bring their work for the day. I'm not a huge fan of cake donuts but the sprinkles one was a nice portion. We also ordered dark horse cold brews and quiches. The quiches were super flavorful. We had hoped to try the breakfast sandwiches but they'll be on the menu in April. Looking forward to coming back for those! read more

Dodo plans to offer a continuous rotation of artisan doughnuts with at least four different flavors per day. I arrived just in time because their was only one left of the Devil's Food chocolate doughnut that I wanted to try. I was hopping for something with a little cinnamon, but it was just not my day. I also ordered a flat white. $4.75 The flat white was very well made. It was smooth and rich with just the correct amount of ratios. It was a quality Flat White. Well done. I liked the chocolate doughnut, which is made from dark chocolate; hence, the slight bitterness towards the end. The front end of the first bit was a mouthful of semi-sweet chocolate. The texture of the doughnut was almost cake like with some denseness. It was good, but as for a rich and sweet chocolate doughnut, it was not, but then again that's what I was told by the young lady behind the counter they were going for. Woke up this morning wanting to try a new donut shop. Stopped in because the reviews were pretty good. We only came for donuts so this review is solely based on donuts. We paid $25 for 6 donuts. Their selection was very small. We were underwhelmed to say the least. We ordered 2 glazed, maple bacon, 2 sprinkle donuts and a devils cake donut. The kids were not a fan of the sprinkled donut. I feel like this is the easiest to not mess up. Had a bite and it wasn't good. The glazed donut has a chewy texture and not in The good way.
