We thought about making a reservation when it was too late to make one for Mother's Day. We decided to go down to The Circle and try our luck for brunch. We stopped along the way at a few places but the wait times were just too long. We wanted to eat outside and spied a nice open table and decided that we'd check out the place it belonged to. I walked in and placed an order for a Belgium waffle. I ordered the chilaquiles for my husband. My daughter and her husband had the breakfast burritos. When the meal came it was well presented and made with very fresh ingredients. Most of all it was delicious. Restaurants are under immense pressure and lack of staff. We must give them a break right now when it comes to service on an all hands basis. The problem is real and I really appreciate those who are trying to make life for their customers a little easier, a little nicer than it was last year. By the way, they gave complimentary chocolate chip cookies to the table and then a beautiful flower for the mother's at the tables. Stopped by Cafe Zocalo not too long ago and had the chocolate croissant and some chocolate chip cookies. Got them fresh in the morning on the way to work and they were absolutely amazing!! Also had the cafe de hoya along with the pastries. Breakfast hit the spot. If you're looking for cozy cafe with quality bakery goods, cafe zocalo is your spot. The food was very good. We were a very eclectic group and tried a lot in the breakfast department. I had a pastry that was wonderful (sorry, I do not remember the name) . My brother had a cinnamon roll and graciously shared, nummy. One of us had a Carne asado taco and said the flavor was very good, and one other had the breakfast burrito, which was great as well (melon on the side). The drinks, especially the Mayan Mocha, were the best! Coffee, Mexican chocolate with a hint of cinnamon, awesome. The service was perfect , there were 5 of us, so we did keep them busy. So my friend had heard about this adorable little bakery. We stopped by and had some of their desserts and coffee. The cheesecake was amazing, creamy, rich and the perfect graham cracker crust. My first time at this awesome little spot. Cafe Zocalo had great service. The food was amazing. My family had the waffles and they were so fluffy and buttery. My daughter loved them. Avocado toast was so good my wife says. I had the big breakfast burrito and let me tell you the size of the burrito and how much stuff was in there was perfect. I am soooo full. The green chilaquiles were as if they were homemade. We added carne asada. Amazing dish. My daughter had a hot chocolate abuelita so delicious. I tried there mazapán latte it was delicious as well. Really outstanding gem of a spot in downtown Orange. The food is really good, especially the fresh baked muffins and cookies. Surprised by the poor service at this place. I've been here many times and enjoyed the food and service but today was not what I expected. Walked in 15 minutes before closing and asked if I could still order a salad. The lady said they were closing but would take my order. I ordered the Tuna salad and an Ice Tea. When the order came, it was in a styrofoam To Go packaging and a plastic bag. I informed the server/cook that I was going to eat it there. He immediately told me they were closing and I could not eat in the restaurant. I replied, "OK, I will eat out in patio", at which time he informed me that he was bringing in all those tables and chairs as well. After a few back and forth comments, he finally allowed me to eat the salad in the restaurant while they were cleaning up. I opened the To Go package and found no salad dressing or utensils. I asked for utensils which they hesitatingly provided but I did not even mention the lack of dressing as I was already very uncomfortable. I ate my dry salad as fast as I could and then left after I devoured about 3/4 of it. This was one of my go to places for breakfast but I won't be back after being treated as an outcast. read more
