So glad I stopped by at Cafe Zocalo. Service: Our party of four stopped by on a Tuesday morning, around 11, and it was just starting to get busy for lunch. We got seated promptly and were served within 20 minutes. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food: We started with coffee. I tried the horchata latte both hot and iced but I will say hot is a must try! I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of different breads and pastries. The blueberry scone was to die for! The coffee cake was also very good. We took home a Boston cream pie, Ranger cookie, and blueberry muffin which were just as delicious. For our main meal, we had the Machaca, Chilaquiles Rojos, and Philly cheesesteak sandwich and all were tasty. Ambience: This place is extremely charming! I was disappointed with the food at my 2nd visit. The first time I had the tuna melt w/ potato-mac salad, horchata iced coffee & Mexican wedding cookies. Everything was good except for the coffee drink - it was watery and overly sweet, and no horchata taste. At my 2nd visit I had the corned beef hash - it was a tasteless dry, hard lump. The breakfast potatoes were greasy, stuck together and looked & tasted like leftovers. The bread at Blue Frog Bakery used to be thick and delicious bakery-style bread. Now (Cafe Zocalo) the wheat toast was thin, cheap, half-burnt and hard. The eggs & Arnold Palmer drink were average. The service was fine both times, nothing outstanding. I loved the atmosphere at Blue Frog Bakery, but Cafe Zocalo is still cute and fun - good music (good volume too), loteria pictures, Mexican party flags & mini pinatas. This is my favorite spot for a breakfast burrito. I get it to go for lunch and it really hits the spot. This place has an awesome staff and the little place is really cute. I have never eaten anything from here that wasn't delicious. Their salsa is definitely in house made and so flavorful with the right amount of heat. Their grilled sandwiches are also good. There is a hidden secret about this place.....their homemade baked items. If you are lucky enough to get a strawberry croissant you won't be disappointed or their bread pudding or cookies, scones. We had a party of 4 and decided we wanted to try the huge mimosa. (Mamamosa) The total was at around $180. (with tip included) We each had an entree. We had chilaquiles that were pretty bomb. My only suggestion would be to add more sauce. We had to ask for more and they were very generous. The ambiance was very relaxing and positive. The lady's working the register were amazing. It's time to update my rating to 5-stars! Today we visited Blue Frog, which is now Cafe Zocalo. They've made a few little changes to their look, which was a nice surprise - a fresh new look! But I was so glad to hear that they kept their same cooks, bakers and staff! I would have been crushed to find out that our favorite pastries were no more! Good move to the new owners to keep the existing staff! One of the highlights of coming in is being greeted by Helen and Adan! But Helen is a great front counter person! Very friendly, nice to chat with - I feel like she's an old friend that we get to visit with each weekend! Always great service here! Our "go-to" baked goods are the bear claws (best we've ever had!), and I really enjoy the Everything cookies with my coffee. I tried their blueberry scone this morning which was so good! Very fresh - not hard and dry which is usually how they've been when I've bought them at other places. And every now and then they'll make a cherry danish or a cherry turnover that is so yummy!! But it's not very often, so when I see them, I usually get a couple! Oh, and just a side note - they have flavored creamers for your coffee, which is a big plus for me! read more

Why did it take me so long to give this place a try? Blue Frog has literally been my second oldest bookmark and despite being in the area numerous times for coffee, ice cream or checking out the Street Fair it never really came across as a main option for me during our weekly Sunday breakfast outings. Finally, after years of passing this place by, I wanted to try somewhere new that had good options and wouldn't break the bank for breakfast. Blue Frog stood out amongst the best I looked at and I am glad I chose them as this place was delicious and quite affordable. I decided to go with the Messy "Pig" Frog (minus the avocado) and loved the dish. This dish is a mix of bacon, onion, potato, bell peppers, avocado, egg and cheese and comes with toast and salsa and everything was delicious and it was quite filling. I loved this so much we made a return visit a few short weeks later and I had the dish again and was not let down. They offer a good assortment of entrees for breakfast and lunch, pastries (we saw many people come in and grab 1 or 2 of these to go) and a large assortment of coffee deinks, teas, juices etc... The place was undergoing some renovations during our last visit (several people were asking to make sure they were not closing shop) and I look forward to seeing the changes. The place is relatively small with a few tables across from the ordering counter and a small seating area upstairs near the restroom. Being that Blue Frog is right near the heart of the Orange Circle parking can be a bit scarce anf hars to come by but we have been lucky enough to get some on the curb or neighboring lots or street near the time of their opening. Please be on the lookout for parking signs as many streets around the area are by permit only and tickets will be given if not careful. Overall this is another great find and option for us for breakfast. I hope to be back again soon as well as to try out some other options off the menu. The service is good, the price is right and the food is good which is all I can ask for. A definite place to come in and check out for yourself if you are out antiquing (or window shopping if you are me) in the area of the circle. read more

This is a very cute restaurant. Starting April 2022 they'll be increasing their prices due to inflation. I had the zocalo omelette which to my surprise was very good despite it being soy meat. Our table of 3 was never refilled their waters. Overall this place was good but does not make my personal favorite list of restaurants. read more

My teenage daughter passed her behind the wheel test early morning today. To celebrate we were going to have breakfast at Kimmie's, but we came across Cafe Zocalo, checked out their menu on the front door & decided to come in. When we came in it was pretty empty, but about 30 mins later, there was a line out to the front door. This restaurant is clean, very cute, warm, cozy, has friendly customer service, indoor/outdoor seatings, and was overall really great. We sat inside because it was wet & freezing outside today. I ordered The Messy One (choices of Italian sausage or bacon, fruits or potatoes for sides) with Italian sausage & fruits. My daughter ordered Spinach & Cheese Croissant, potatoes. Strolling the Orange Circle and found this place and we had specialty's coffees and pastries and both were delightful and very sweet. Took a couple pictures of the fun decor like the rose wall upstairs. Prices were very reasonable and we lingered for an hour sipping on our hot coffees. I live nearby but haven't been to this location since it changed from the Blue Frog. Very happy to see this business thriving. Food was delicious and they took my order at the table. We adore their Messy Pug Frog, which comes with American Bacon. The Original Messy Pig comes with Italian Sausage. Avocado. Sweet Peppers. Real cheese. Total yum. I prefer mine with Cheddar Cheese.
