been here a few times. It's located right in between downtown and Chinatown area. I love the ambiance here- spacious, lighting, seating, and the decor! Perfect spot to catch up with an old friend, order a hot drink ( I recommend their vanilla chai with soy) or bring your labtop and study! (free wifi) They have a variety of drinks, sweets, and sandwiches so there's a lot you can choose from. The only thing I wish they would start doing is latte art. I can't say much for the coffee drinks because I'm not a huge coffee drinker but what I can is that this is such a cute causal place to hang out and relax! read more

The Decor is beautiful in this coffee shop! The atmosphere is relaxing and posh, and there is free wifi (with easy log on). There is ample seating and table space. The noise level is relatively low. The staff is friendly . I even had a manager swing by my table to ask how my coffee was! On to the coffee: I went with a staple: the iced coffee. The flavor is very well balanced: neither tannic nor overly burnt, yet the flavor is clearly present in the coffee. The milks are all from a local farm, which is a huge bonus. The desserts are all really well presented, and look fresh and delicious. Fresh juices and fruits are displayed also. There are lunch sandwiches available that look quite tasty. (I'll have to come back in for lunch!) The prices are all very fair, and I expect this coffee shop to do a lot of business in the future. I'll certainly be recommending my coworkers to try it out. read more

The perfect place to give your date the vibe of, "I want to take you home but first I want to look refined and well read." Caffè Nero is a chain that started in the UK and their first opening in the U.S. just happens to be this location! Drinks are fairly expensive, but it's not surprising considering the decor of the place. Even the baristas look european here. I got the Pumpkin Spice Latte and it was definitely different than any other coffee i've had. It was creamier, thicker, and semi-sweet so you can truly enjoy the taste of pumpkin. The Pros: the location and cute idea and decor. I grew up in area so it's been interesting to see the change in the area in general. It is definitely in a prime location, bordering Chinatown and Downtown Crossing. Parking will not be easy to find some days so you're better off taking public transportation here or walking over. The cafe is very cute with their decor. It's a little rustic maybe and a little something else - can't find a word just yet. They also have tables outside when it gets warm out. It looks like a large spot and a good place to sit down and chill (big and small tables, chairs and couches), but it gets pretty packed - especially when students take over. So while it's a great place to hang out and grab a coffee and pastry, good luck finding a seat. They have a variety of Cafe drinks and food - nothing too special but I also am not a big coffee drinker so you should test that out yourself. I have had some of their food items and they're good - what I expect but nothing amazingly different. Prices are okay - probably around the same prices as a Starbucks. It's a good spot to grab a quick bite to go if you're hungry. If you can grab a spot, enjoy it! read more

Love the atmosphere. The decorations and theme are beautiful to look at which increases the positive vibe. They have free internet for three hours but it doesn't include Netflix and YouTube. They have charging stations which is a nice plus if you plan on staying long. It's a quaint place so it can get crowded. Especially during my visit. We had gotten lucky to get a seat. What a beautiful cafe in the heart of the financial district/downtown/Chinatown area. The servers were fast and efficient, the chai latte was excellent, and the atmosphere was beautifully rustic and cozy. Tables can be hard to come by since it was packed both times I came in here, but once you do manage to settle down, it's a great place to get work done, people watch, or get bedazzled by the lights emitted by the Paramount theatre across the street. Beautiful and cozy interior right in Boston! We stopped by Caffe Nero on Christmas eve before heading to church. It was the coziest spot to be with a Christmas tree, a fireplace, and comfy furniture. The lighting is not too bright either which makes you want to curl up with a good book and sip on some espresso. I ordered espresso con panna (a single shot with whipped cream) and my husband got a doppio. We also got two pieces of almond biscotti as it looked so good. My one complaint is that as an Italian-style coffee shop, they don't serve carbonated water with the espresso. I'm sure not everyone here in the US wants it, but I feel if you're going to call yourself "Italian-style," you should do it the Italian way! I could see this place probably stays pretty busy on a normal day. read more

Grabbed a couple of lattes from this cafe recently, and they were alright. They were run of the mill and normal. The atmosphere was rather cool though. The coziness and hipness would make anyone want to grab a chair and just hang out (they already do). The problem? IT'S WAY TOO CROWDED. Upon walking in and getting our drinks, we stood around for a while awkwardly, in the hopes a table would open up. This place is perhaps my favorite coffee shop in Boston, and that's sayin' somethin'! They encourage you to get a coffee and stay as long a you like. For someone like me who works well in coffee shop environments, I love feeling like I'm not being pushed out. The decor is funky and fab, and the coffee ain't bad, either. I love that a large is $2.00. No free refills like at Starbucks, but the men's bathroom is seldom as clean or well-stocked as it should be (management take note), so who needs to drink that much liquid anyway? The food, too, is very good. (The roast beef on ciabatta, at about $8, is recommended.) I just wish the service behind the counter is more even. There are a few ladies who work here who think they rule the universe. In their egotastic attempts at efficiency, they spoil the chill "European" (?!) vibe to which the shop allegedly aspires. A less aggressive counter staff and cleaner bathrooms would earn this place 5.5 stars. For now, though, I'll settle with what I've got! read more

I've gone to other locations before and always had great experiences. Diagonal from the Ritz is this gem of a cafe. We stumbled in seeking breakfast and lattes and were delighted to find many other treats as well. A bit disappointed that most of their "breakfast sandwiches" did not contain egg, otherwise would have given this place 5*. I had a standard yogurt parfait with my hazelnut latte while enjoying stealthily sneaking bits and pieces of my husband's delightfully moist and crumbly apple coffee cake. My roommates and I stop by here all the time, since we live across the street. I've had a smoothie and hot chocolate from them, and both were delicious. Their sandwiches are awesome--the turkey club sandwich and prosciutto sandwich are my favorites, and that's coming from someone who doesn't really like turkey. Two of my roommates LOVE the caprese sandwich and order it every time. I've also had the toasted almond cake, which was delicious--light and fluffy with just the right amount of cream. I've eaten there once. Decor is super cute, but it's usually super crowded and can get a bit noisy, so I normally get my things to go. The one downside is service can get slow, depending on what you get, but it's worth the wait. read more

This was the first coffee shop I ever tried in Boston! They have a few other locations but I have no idea where. I heard from my brother that Boston wasn't known for their coffee and didn't have a lot of great coffee shops but I was surprised by the number of espresso-based coffee options they had here at this Italian-style caffe. I got a vanilla latte in a size small and thought it was too sweet. It had foam on it but no latte art. I also got an almond cream cake and thought it was great (not too sweet). I love the interior decor of this place. There are tons of architectural details and a lot of really cool wooden built-ins. The light fixtures are great and the servers are all quick and very friendly! You need a code to get into the bathroom FYI. There is outdoor and indoor seating areas. The indoor seating areas include fun, vintage looking chairs. They offer a lot of different pastries (Parisian macarons, cannolis, cookies, etc) and they have tons of different espresso-based drinks like flat white, cortado, ristretto, latte etc. They also sell ready-to-eat sandwiches. They have booth seats inside and lots of outlets. They have old espresso machines inside that are nice to look at (used as decor). read more

The just slightly dim lighting and European library theme creates the perfect ambiance for sitting and staying awhile with work or a book. 2nd time I come to café Nero and its the second time they disappoint. They ran out of breakfast sandwiches and served the croissant ham and cheese cold. I asked for a mocha frappe latte with whip cream and they ran out of whip cream. Last time I came they couldn't even prepare a mocha frappe because they had run out of the special powder. The space is gorgeous. The staff is nice. The coffee is some of the best around. I'm a big fan of the brand in general. So why 3 stars? Damn if it's not slow as all get out every time. If I'm not in a rush this is my spot. But I've been here 15 or so times in the past 6 weeks and it just seems like the process is way longer than needed every time. Busy morning? Understandable. Slow afternoon stop? Just one girl working the counter and it takes 5-10 minutes for a straight up brew when there's 2 people in front of me. Again I dig this place but the speed of service just kills me sometime. Staring at my phone in line killing time all day. I am so absolutely in love with this place! I'm so sad that it's taken so long for me to discover this place, because it's basically everything that I want in a coffee shop! The decor has a bit of a classic feel mixed in with some steampunk influences, and they have a good selection of seating (large tables, small booths, or couches) depending on your preference. Drinks: Their cappuccino is solid, albeit not out-of-the-park amazing, but their chai latte is the bomb! It's the perfect blend of smooth flavor with an appropriate tint of spice. Even better, both these hot drinks come out very, very hot (which is often my main complaint - that the drink isn't hot enough). Their mocha frappe is also tasty, but only modestly superior to what you could get at Starbucks. Sandwiches: I tried the roast beef sandwich, which was exactly what I wanted (especially with the horseradish mayo), although the bread was a bit rough and ended up tearing up the roof of my mouth. No matter - the meat and sauce were so good that I endured the pain for the deliciousness. Desserts: This is the reason that this cafe gets 5 stars (that and the decor and ambiance)! Yes, the desserts are a bit pricey, but I completely believe that the extra cost is completely worth it. Their pumpkin praline is the perfect blend of creamy sweetness without being too overwhelming, whilst their flourless chocolate cake is an explosion of dark chocolate happiness in your mouth. I even loved their apple coffee cake, and apple-based desserts are usually the first ones that I disregard. Service: Almost every server/barista I interacted with was very amicable and sweet, although one of the guys during an evening shift had a very I-couldn't-care-less attitude and was very inattentive and slow when I was ordering with him. One of the largest coffee shops downtown, yet it somehow still feels cozy and warm -like a study in an old mansion. Nothing like the coffee shops I've been to in France or Spain! As a European chain, Nero definitely draws more European customers than the other coffee spots nearby. The decor may not remind me at all of European coffee shops, but the coffee sure does! My husband's latte was served on a saucer with a miniature stirring spoon. I don't recall the brand they use, but it tasted like top quality beans to me. I also had a piece of coffee cake, which I would say is comparable to any pastry you might pick up at Flour. A place I look forward to returning to for a few hours of reading or chatting! read more

I love this place. It is my #1 place to come to on the weekends to slave over hw, but unfortunately a lot of other people have the same thought as me and the place can get pretty crowded. Who doesn't wants a large coffee shop with a superb environment and friendly staff? Drinks are great, easy to customize and you can watch them make your drinks. The sandwiches are really great and I recommend sparing the time to allow them to toast it. The bread is thick and yummy, without being dry. Their toasted vegetable sandwich is my personal favorite! All their pastries are rather tasty, but I would pass on their cookies since they're nothing special.
