RECOMMENDATIONS: I like medium/light coffees, so I really like the Beethoven, but if you like darker roasts their Bluff blend is great, too. Also, try their white coffee!! Tastes like Chinese Green bean soup! I took my boyfriend here for a tour of Cafe Appassionato's roastery (thanks Groupon!). I came knowing it would take about two hours, seriously wondered what the heck we'd be doing for such a long time, but little did I know that the two hours would fly by and we would have a blast the entire time. The pace of the tour was perfect. We didn't feel rushed, but it was never boring either. We learned so much about roasting coffee, saw the roasting in action, which was awesome. and got to try so much amazing coffee! Thank you so much Kurt for your time, the amazing tour, and the coffee!! We would highly recommend coming here for the coffee. I didn't know about Cafe Appassionato before the tour, but it has become one of my favorite coffee places. If you're far away, pick up a bag of their beans at QFC! read more

It's always cheering to head to a coffee shop that is also a roaster. There's the giant grinding machines in museum-quality glass cases flanking the entrance which impart an air of authenticity to the establishment. Upon further entrance, different plaques and pictures of coffee as well as the history of Seattle adorn the walls. It just makes you feel like you're in a place that's more substantial. But, as an important point with all coffee houses, there's the ordering desk near the front door. It's really more of a giant counter and there are some seats on the side where you can eat. The menu is fairly substantial with the usual coffee fare (coffee, pastries, light sandwiches) but also some of the more-common extras (smoothies, shakes, soup of the day). The prices are pretty much within the typical range for Seattle. It seems they use a more bitter roast here. I'm not that much of a coffee guru (surprising as much of the stuff as I drink), but there's a slightly more acrid taste with their offerings. Not that it's necessarily bad, but if you like a more sweet blend this isn't quite the place. Of course, they probably have several types of roasts, but this is the generic one that they serve. If you're sitting here, there's a small number of tables inside as well as a spacious conference room in the back. The seats are mostly wooden, but surprisingly comfortable. A small patio hidden by shady trees (if you want to avoid the sun all 12 months of the year) is available out front. For those on the run or avoidant personality types, there is a drive through which can take your order. They do seem to be a bit on the slow side here, although when I've wandered in there only seems to be one barista working an indoor line and the drive thru. Perhaps I've just caught them at odd hours. Overall, it's a pretty nice choice for coffee near the Fisherman's terminal. I'm going with three stars since the service has been pretty consistently slow. If you're not in a hurry, this is probably worth four stars. read more

After reading the reviews I had to check out the this Caffe Appassionato. I'm usually not for chains but the idea of the roaster being right there got be excited. I dropped in on a cloudy Seattle morning wanting nothing more than a Chocolate Croissant (with dreams of Bakery Nouveau in West Seattle in my mind. No couches, industrial, but not sheik feel, friendly folks working there, and decent coffee. It's good, if I was in Georgia, I'm sure I'd be thrilled, but there is just so much better in Seattle. read more

Decent coffee, nice quiet and calm atmosphere for working, but I'm appalled to see that they have a sign on their entrance saying only registered service animals are welcome. I've attempted to contact the company and haven't gotten a response. Here's a fact all business owners should know and educate their staff on: THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS AN ADA RECOGNIZED SERVICE DOG REGISTRY. None! The only registries are SCAMS and you can sign up with a toaster. Seriously. Do not recognize the ID cards or certificates as legit because they are not. They create access problems for those of us who have legitimate service dogs and know the laws and won't waste our money on those things. Please educate yourselves on your rights and responsibilities as a business as outlined by the ADA. read more

This is a great place, the coffee is terrific, the staff is helpful and welcoming and the atmosphere just what a third place should be. They roast coffee on site so you can watch and smell this through the windows. It's a great place to meet up with friends but can get very busy on the weekend days with families so it gets loud. There's a loyal following and you can often see the owner strolling in and out and smiling at patrons. This is a family owned business a family that lives in Magnolia. It's the only place in Magnolia I'd go for coffee, I prefer to support the smaller places than the huge chain places. The staff seems happy so they must be treated right. The other thing going for it is that it's less a tech hub and more a gathering place for old school face to face encounters. There aren't tons of people with laptops and earphones it's more a coffee shop in the true sense of the word. I detest going into a place where everyone is tuned into whatever and tuned out of the present now. Give it a try I'll bet you will become a fan! read more

Lovely coffee spot tucked away under some large trees by Fishermans terminal. Very convenient if you are needing a drive through coffee spot between Magnolia and Ballard. Inside it is a pretty classy looking establishment complete with piano and hardwoods. The coffee itself has been consistently great. Since I discovered it I have been there 3-5 times a week. I would say that their hot coffee is definitely better than their cold drinks. The breakfast sandwiches and bagels are about average. One thing I would agree with a previous poster is the baristas can be moody. With that said thought I have not had a bad service experience and based on taste and convenience I will be back. read more

I actually liked this place for breakfast burritos and coffee as it is close to work, however after finding not 1 but two hairs cooked into my eggs this morning I will not be returning. I have blonde hair and the hair I found was brown but was also cooked into the egg as you can see in the picture I have attached. Unfortunately I will not be returning. read more

This is a really cool coffee shop with a nice Seattle feel to it. The drip coffee and cappuccino were tasty and they clearly use quality beans. The cappuccino had a large mound of foam on top that I am not too fond of, but it was still enjoyable. There was no artful heart or flower on the top, but that is not needed for good coffee. I like latte art because in order to pull it off you need a thin topping of foam and perfectly frothed milk. The service was great, and the hidden drive-through is a nice addition. I also love the huge roaster at the front entrance. I've only been here once, so I'm just going to hope they actually use it to roast their own coffee. read more

I had to spit the coffee out after my first sip, it was that freakin' hot. I opened up the lid and it brewed like a witch's cauldron for about 10 minutes. You know that Seinfeld episode? "Coffee is supposed to be hot!" "Well not that hot!" Of course the coffee has a burnt taste to it, I guess that's what happens when you power your coffee machine with enriched uranium. One of the baristas was really friendly, but the other was incredibly surly. Indifference? Sure. Friendliness? i can do with that in a barista. But outright surliness? Eh. Charming coffee shop and a nice departure from the sterile Starbucks experience. Outdoor seating is probably delightful in warm weather. I got a drip coffee and it seemed a bit bitter but I'm no coffee expert. Food and pastry offerings didn't look particularly appealing. Maybe all the good stuff is gone by afternoon? One thing to be aware of: there seem to be very few power outlets. Make sure your laptop is fully charged or try to move to a vacated table near an outlet. read more

This used to be our go-to neighborhood coffee shop. The quality of the coffee is good and the cafe is conveniently located but we've stopped coming here for one reason: the drive-thru experience has become totally unbearable. It used to be that we would wait a few reasonable minutes in line but would quickly be on our way. I don't know what's changed in recent months, however, but the last 3 times we've tried to drive through here we had to wait at least 10 minutes every single time. On none of those occasions did we actually get to the window and ended up driving off before we ever made it. No drive thru anywhere should take 10 minutes. Luckily there is a much more efficient drive-thru coffee shack just down the road which has now become "our" spot. read more

I wanted sooooooo badly to like this place as it's near to my home in Magnolia and has a drive through for quick coffee service, but I just can't. I've tried their coffee several times thinking it'll maybe be good this time, but it's only ever been remotely tasty once. I usually order a mocha at all coffee shops because I can't handle the acrid flavor of an americano or latte, so I try the mocha here. It's tasted different every single time I've ordered it. I know baristas can differ in their preparation, but it's tasted like a mocha from straight up different coffee shops each time. The last time I ordered it, there was maybe, MAYBE a hint of mocha flavor in it, and the espresso they served me tasted burnt. I asked my americano/latte-loving husband to try it and see if I was just being crazy and picky, and he said it tasted awful. On the plus side, the employees have always been rather kind, though often very chatty to themselves and it seems like the speediness of service might suffer as a result. Whatever the case is, we won't be returning in the future, and will instead head a little out of our way to Ballard for a quick coffee run. read more

The coffee is fabulous! It is a great place to meet friends or have a business meeting. I love this place...however; the service, while friendly, is slow about half the time. I've stopped in at lunch on many occasions to only find one barista working the drive through AND the register AND the expresso machine! I often feel like jumping behind the counter to help out! Really great hidden gem. Their "theater" style roaster is awesome and if you go during roasting hours, they have tours available. This is the best coffee you can find in Seattle. This place was a welcome respite after my flight from the east coast. The building exterior is softened with landscaping and has a quaint Italian interior. We recently had a tour of this cafe and I have to say I was blown away. The coffee tastes incredible. Seriously smooth, non-bitter, pure deliciousness. The owner was both gracious and hilarious and gave us a great walkthrough of all the ins and outs of roasting their coffee right there on the spot, which you can see while you're enjoying your cup in the cafe through large open windows to the roaster. I highly recommend visiting. I've never had coffee that tasted that good! read more

The drive thru is super convenient and quick. Never have to wait more than 10min. The staff isn't the friendliest...I always feel like I'm asking for the biggest favor when ordering (when really it should be the other way around when I'm paying). The Americano is never quite right either, and sometimes room temp. I would however recommend buying your coffee beans here. read more
