The baristas are friendlier and more service-oriented lately. In terms of food, they would be smart to get more items from high quality bakeries like Finales and make sure they are storing things under proper humidity. They need to get some decent poppy seed muffins. The coffee seems to be easy and low-acid. Their caffeinated coffee does not make me jittery like other brands, so that is a nice perk. This store has a definite fan-base of people who really enjoy the atmosphere. If you Google the store, it comes up on Google/Google maps as being closed today, so that is probably not good for business. The door threshold/sill juts up a bit too high and it is a tripping hazard. They need to get that fixed before someone falls. read more

Decent little coffee shop on the border of Magnolia and Ballard neighborhoods. Very close to the Fisherman's Terminal. Good coffee selection, morning pastries. A few breakfast sandwiches as well. Big space with a piano! They also roast here, which I believe is the main business. The neighborhood coffee shop (Discovery Espresso and Juice) is closed Sundays so we popped in here for some road trip coffee. read more

Amazing! My fiance brought me here for a surprise tour of the cafe. Our tour guide and "coffee connoisseur" Kurt was awesome. I thought I knew coffee until this tour and my knowledge of it grew within that hour of the tour. We had so much fun. And not only that - the coffee is DELICIOUS. I went home with so many different types coffee to try - I'm still on my first batch of k-cups. Yep. You heard it - they are now making K-CUPS! Such delicious coffee in a convenient way. We had such a great great time and I really wish I lived closer to the cafe. Its great to know I can pick up their beans at QFC though. I would recommend this place to my friends, for a tour of just to stop by and have some coffee. It's a beautiful place and their outside patio is lovely as well. The coffee is terrible. Just plain old not good. I've had hundreds if not thousands of coffee beverages in my life and this is in the lower 5%. While space is nice and open, it's fairly untidy and the merchandise section is a joke. Breakfast on a bagel salvages it a second star. read more

We have a real estate networking group that meets at Appassionato's once a month. I love this place. They roast coffee on site. It's fun to watch. It's a very neighborhood kind of place with lots of locals. They have WiFi and a small conference room good for 10 - 20 people. Great place! Excellent atmosphere and nice baristas. It's a real treat to come here and relax. There's plenty of room, so you're not forced out if you want to linger. I can't say I really like their coffees (too bitter), but I've developed a real taste for the expensive, single origin coffees, so my taste is biased. Everyone seems to like their coffee - one guy told me he's bought the same blend for 25 years. Service can be slow, but the friendliness makes up for it. Love this place! read more

I like the coffee and the service is great, but they need to put up an open/closed sign for the drive thru window. I only do the drive thru and without a sign you can't tell if they're open or closed unless the window is open. It's very frustrating to pull up to the window only to find out that they're closed. I've talked to the baristas about this over the years and they say the owners don't want to have open sign. I would give them a higher rating but the lack of an open/closed sign is a disservice to the customers. read more

Great product and quality. "Core" baristas excellent, friendly, and community-spirited. The main team behind the bar often runs fun trivia contests and will remember your name if you are frequent flyer. It's a gathering spot for neighborhood folks and people who work nearby, and they have free Wi-Fi, outdoor seating, TVs and a grand piano. Fresh-made pastries and baked goods, and the boys option of hot breakfast prepared upon order AND premade sandwiches and hard boiled eggs make this a go-to location for me. So convenient and friendly. That all adds up to AWESOME. One word to the wise though: If you want a double short latte, (8oz with two shots), it's best to order a 12 ounce latte and ask for 4 fewer ounces of milk. Otherwise the pricing scheme (probably inadvertent?) ends up costing you the same amount you would pay for a 16 ounce latte. Interesting how the 12 ouncer and above come with two shots, but an 8 ounce drink is priced for just has only one shot, so adding an extra really rockets the cost up to a pricier outcome! read more

Well I guess I'm a little bit BUMMED. I've lived in the Magnolia neighborhood for 2 years and have to move now to shorten my commute....But I JUST FOUND this place!!! GO FIGURE. I'm picky about my coffee so I tend to migrate to those smaller establishments I've discovered along my commute route or neighborhoods where friends and family live. I ducked into THIS place on a VERY rainy day....thought it was just a DRIVE-THRU all this time! TOTALLY a neighborhood hidden 'gem'. I was destined to stop at Caffee Appassionato. I was visiting Seattle for a couple of days with my family. We visited the Fish Ladder, but took a wrong turn and parked on the non-popular side of the ladder. Oops. But it was destiny that we were on the wrong side because it led us to C.A. After walking around the ladder we were freezing cold, in need of a restroom, and my heart was crying out for one last cup of Seattle coffee before heading to the airport. We literally drove right by this place so we stopped in. It was warm and clean. The workers were so nice. I asked about their Appassionato Mocha and was informed it is made with special bittersweet chocolate rather than the usual Hersheys chocolate. Let me say, it was as delicious as it sounds. I sat down at a table for just a couple of minutes and a grungy fisherman walked in, sat down at the grand piano, and started playing beautiful music. He might have been an angel in disguise. The whole thing was one of those unexpected wonderful moments you want to put in a bottle and hold on to for the rest of your life. read more

One of my favorite coffee's in all of Seattle. They specialize in low acidity coffee which is great for anyone with stomach acid issues. The beans are slow roasted which allows the notes in each brew to be highlighted. The coffee is always fresh and the staff friendly. I would actually give this place 3 1/2 stars but unfortunately yelp doesn't have that option. If you're in the magnolia neighborhood this is a good option for coffee on the go or sit down sip. They have a drive through which is really convenient but we opted to sit and enjoy the view. The cappuccino is very good. My shot was almost perfectly pulled, there was a slight bitter note in the after tones but not bad overall. They carry pastries and breakfast sandwiches. We got the the cinnamon roll which would have been better heated. We also went back and got a coffee to go. The staff is friendly and perky in the morning which is a nice call at 6:30 am. Overall, I enjoyed the place and would recommend. I'd give it 4 stars but I feel my cappuccino wasn't worth 4 stars and I may add a tip, if you don't like foam on your cappuccino make sure to ask for no foam! Otherwise you'll get a whole lotta foam! I purchased a coffee tasting and roasting tour on groupon for my wife's birthday since she is a passionate coffee lover. Little did I realize we would be in for the most intimate and professional experience ever. First Kurt, who was a manager set up my appointment for a Saturday which was out of the norm since they don't usually roast coffee on the weekends. That was a absolute life saver since her birthday was that Saturday. When we arrived at the Fisherman's Terminal location, we were greeted by a charming yet sophisticatedly designed interior filled with people engaging in everything from family time to taking a break from a morning jog or bike ride. The establishment resembled a gathering hole, more than a business manned by a obliging and knowledgeable staff including a baristia named Adam, This guy was awesome in sharing his passion and understanding of the coffee experience. Now I get to Aga. The beautiful young laday that performed the tour and tasting. Aga was the perfect person to do this and we feel enriched by just meeting her. Forget the fact that she is so versed in the Caffe Appassionato story. To put in a nutshell, she spent almost 4 hours articulating and promoting her company, of which I left with such a great admiration for. A 4 hours that felt like 30 minutes by the way. I cannot recommend enough that everyone take up this great offer and get to know a true treasure that is tucked away in historic Ballard. Nice spot, cool locale, but lame coffee. Ordered a mocha with the dark chocolate and with orange zest. Drink had virtually no flavor, just sweet milk. Could barely detect coffee or chocolate flavor. Absolutely no orange flavor. Zero foam. Pretty much like crappy, weak coffee pumped full of that cheesy international flavor syrup. Next time I'll keep it simple and try an Americano. I'll def give them another chance. But looking at some other reviews and "bland" definitely seems to be a trend. My son got an iced mocha, not much better, but a little. read more

I ordered a breakfast sandwich here and the egg whites were so overcooked they were inedible. They had the consistency of hard plastic. The coffee may be good (I don't know as I didn't try any), but I don't recommend this place based on their food. read more
