I was lucky enough to come here for my birthday lunch. My friend and I both enjoyed the current lunch menu that is on for $29 which includes an appetizer and entrée and a dessert. We are a good sharing duo so we were able to try two of each. The kale salad was a good portion, but a bit too salty - my friend had had it before though, and this isn't normally the case so maybe it was just a one off. We also had the tuna and the sauce was amazing I just wish there was more of course. The pasta dishes were exquisite. The cannoli was good however the shell was so hard from being in the fridge that it made it difficult to eat graciously. We had the pappardelle and spaghetti and meatball. Good stuff. The pappardelle is a wide egg noodle, which is something I don't usually get when I order pasta so it was a nice touch to try something different. And it happened duck ragu so it was even more special. The spaghetti and meatball is pretty straightforward but what I liked was that they give you a metric ton of pasta, and two huge meatballs with some sausage as well. Cozy dining experience with delicious food. I've tried all 3 other sister restaurants (Savio Volpe, Pepino's, and Elio Volpe), and this was on par! I'd say Savio is still my favourite out of the 4, but Caffe La Tana didn't disappoint. Loved their plate of warm assorted olives for $6. Pine Mushroom arancini ($20) was deep fried perfectly with a crunch, but the mushroom flavour was too light. Dip was good, but very generic, like a lightly flavoured mayo/aioli. Deep fried scallop and prawn In Carozza ($19) was flavourful and so juicy, while the outer shell was light and crispy. Lastly, the pasta was amazing, sort of like a gnocchi with braised beef (or was it pork)? Anyways, the meat was very tender and the sauce works perfectly. Lovely pasta dish that I'd order again and would recommend! The table next to us told us we had to order it, and I'm glad we listened. Small menu, there's 1 pasta permanently on the menu, and I believe the other 2 are rotational. Also got 2 alcoholic drinks. Bill total for two people was about $120 without tax and top. Staff were friendly. It's a small dimly lit and casual restaurant, with tightly packed tables that you'll need to squeeze by to get into your seat. My friend recommended this spot, so I went here for brunch on a recent weekend. I made reservations online, and arrived on time and was seated immediately. This place is very cozy. We tried the following: - Flame Seared Albacore: Good. Nicely presented, and you could taste each and every ingredient on the plate. - Burrata for Two: Good. I liked the addition of the grape conserva to add sweetness, and he crispy sage to add some earthiness and texture - Featured Pasta: Good. This is what I really wanted to try, and it delivered. Nice sauce, but thought the pasta was slightly overcooked. Service was friendly, but otherwise pretty standard. Overall a good meal. Went here for dinner on the recommendation of my dinner companions. I had been here once before but forgot! Yesterday it was better than I remembered but I went at 5 PM. The service was most excellent. The place itself was very nice but it's too small and crowded for me. At least it wasn't as loud as it was the last time I went (we left at 7 and the place was packed!!! I guess that's to show the popularity). I could still hear the other people I was with but I guess I don't like that level of noise when I'm trying to have a meaningful conversation. But that's just me. No one else had a problem. The food was very good. The focaccia was delicious and they were generous with portions (not one piece per guest). The pasta was cooked just right. I recommend the radiatore and the meatballs!!! Small plates. Good Italian wine and very friendly and efficient service. We arrived with no reservations hoping to get in. They said an hour or more for a wait but it was less than 20 minutes. Really great food, fresh and delicious. The stuffed pasta was so light and delicious with a great passata fresh sauce. They usually have one or two special pasta dishes. A small, intimate, Italian cafe-style setting. It's part of the Banda Volpi restaurants - Savio Volpe, Elio Volpe, Pepinos (which is next door). This place is smaller than the others and feels more like a casual Italian cafe/wine bar in comparison. We shared a few different plates and drinks. They recommend 4 or 5 plates between two people, depending on how hungry you're feeling. We tried: - Burrata with House Foccacia ($26): It's garnished with some apple, pine and herbs. Good, but perhaps not so good for the price. - Beet & Citrus Salad ($24): It's a vibrant salad, lots of good flavours with some orange, feta, nuts, and beets. -Braised Beef Shin ($34): This was great. A decent hunk of delightfully tender beef shin. Comes with a celeriac purée, mushrooms, and some salsa. - Pappardelle (one of the specials): Can't recall too many specifics on this one. I think it would have been better to go with their radiatore pasta option, which is a fixed classic on their menu. - Pepino's Mini Tiramisu ($9): Tasty. Perhaps being overly picky, but the ratio was more in favour of the mascarpone. Could have done with a smidgen more sponge cake for my tastes. Drinks: - Italian Firing Squad: unexpectedly sweet but a good balance of flavours. Very quaffable. - Rivera 'Pungirosa' Rosé: would have been ideal for a sunny patio. Service is great - good knowledge of the food, things moved quickly, and they changed plates between courses. Overall, a fun place to visit. Had an intimate dinner with the girls here recently. They had a three-course menù fisso for $59, featuring a variety of foraged funghi. You can also add on wine pairings. We were offered three choices each for courses 1 and 2, and two choices for course 3. Since we had more than three people, we ended up sharing everything so we could try a bit of each. Of all the dishes, I loved the spinach sformato in course 1 as I don't usually see this on the menu. After seeing all the positive reviews, we decided to try here before seeing a show next door. Started with a bottle of wine and olives and after further discussion ordered a small House Avocado Salad from Pepino's next door (this was delicious) and the daily pasta -Tagliatelle? with sauce for us to share. The olives were barely marinated, not warm and in the end not to our taste. We also requested they hold up on serving the salad and pasta so our starter could be enjoyed. Maybe 5 minutes later, out came the salad and pasta. We reminded the server we had asked to pace the meal, so the the pasta was removed but they left the salad. The place was quite empty, so rushing us so others could have our table when we were done did not justify this rushed service. Then the pasta portion came. It was very small and the sauce - maybe bolognese - was bland almost to the point of tasteless. Overall the whole experience was a real disappointment and we likely will not be back. read more

I made a reservation to celebrate my friends birthday. The staff were sooo amazing, we had to wait a bit for our table as people were still settling up, but they sat us at the bar while we waited. When our table was ready they had brought out complimentary prosecco and italian soda!! We ended up ordering the pasta of the day and absolutely loved both, but my fave was the ricotta and spinach stuffed "boats". we were blown away! Drinks were also delicious. What a treat! I cannot recommend this place enough and was spoiled when my friends took me here for my birthday! We celebrated with excellent cocktails, delicious food, and incredible service! We ordered a few appetizers, a few mains, and a lot of cocktails. We started with the Whipped Ricotta Crostino (San Pietro a Pettine Truffle Honey, Fresh Black Truffle, House Focaccia). The homemade focaccia melted in my mouth. This was delicious but in comparison to all the other foods, was my least favorite. Next we got the Arancini 'Spinaci alla Fiorentina' (Spinach, Pecorino Romano, Fior Di Latte, Black Pepper). These were bite size and packed a ton of flavor. I could have easily ordered another batch! Then we got the Green Salad (Summer Vegetables, Parmigiano 'Di Montagna', Almonds, House Dressing) because we are so healthy. This salad was light and if you know, that house dressing is excellent (so much so that they bottle it and sell it). The summer vegetables were mainly zucchini but farmers market quality so it melted in your mouth. My favorite dish was the Spicy Radiatori alla Vodka (Bianco di Napoli*, Calabrian Chili, Pecorino Romano). This pasta shape is unique, al dente, and absorbs that sauce so well. Ask for their chili oil to add a punch! 10/10 We ordered their Pasta Del Giorno which was a homemade tortellini with a delicious brown butter sage sauce. The flavors were so mellow and the tortellini's were stuffed! Note: you can also watch them make these bad boys which is awesome! The boys got a meatball which you must if you eat meet. Pro tip, order bread to sop up that sauce. We settled on their desserts, Pepino's Mini Tiramisu (Mascarpone Crema, Sponge Cake) and Caramelized Chocolate Mousse (Toasted Hazelnut, Sincero Olive Oil). La Tana was one of our favorite restaurant for years, but we had the worst dining experience there today ever. I reserved a table for two for my husband's birthday lunch. We were sat promptly, ordered an americano, latte, glorious green salad, tagliolini, spaghetti & meatballs. Drinks and salad arrived, those were absolutely fine. People who ordered after us, they finished their pasta and ours haven't even came! The server completely forgot about us, I went in to ask her what took so long, she asked me for what. We waited and waited, she came out with our pasta. I asked her what took so long, and she said the kitchen missed our order. We began to eat, the tagliolini was delicious with mussels and garlic white wine sauce. Unfortunately the spaghetti in the spaghetti & meatballs was undercooked and chewy. We told the server the spaghetti was undercooked and not al dente. She made it sound like it was already cooked to al dente, and it was our preference to have it cooked longer and softer. She then asked us what do we want, if we want kitchen to cook the same dish again. Uh YES, we had this dish many times, and it was never like this, so heck ya, we want the kitchen to cook it for us again. So we waited again... finally everything came and tasted how they were supposed to be, but man, we were so friggin pissed! The server apologized, used the excuse of being one man down. But come on, pretty much all restaurants are understaffed these days, and it was not peak times when we went, the restaurant was not busy at all. We told the server how we are regular customers at Savio Volpe and La Tana, and it's always our favorite restaurant until today. It was absolutely horrible and unacceptable. She apologized again, compensated our whole meal plus gave us free dessert and a gift card. I'm not here to get freebies, I just want an enjoyable lunch with my hubby, especially is for his birthday. Service is always attentive. Our server was able to answer our questions and make proper recommendations based on our dietary restrictions. By the way, at Caffe La Tana during dinner time you can order items from Pepino's menu, but at Pepino's you won't be able to order from La Tana's menu. I only know of this place because it's the sister restaurant to Savio Volpe. I got an email saying they were doing groceries during covid-19 times and I thought it was a great way to support local (even though they're not very close to me) I saw some local detergents and dish soaps on the menu and thought it was like double dipping (support-wise, of course) Made the order online, got a confirmation email when it was ready to pick up. Drove out, walked in, was greeted with a smile and now have some local products in my laundry room!
