We couldn't see the sign at first, then my husband saw an "open" sign and we walked in. What we heard others say "Yasir" turned and was cheerful and handed us a bite of fresh chicken he had cooked. This is a one man show, it seems. And the delightfulness alone would have you coming back. But one by one people walked in, knew his name and asked for the soups (on a particularly warm day). We had the chicken and the doner and our tummies were full and satiated. Finished it off with a cookie and we were back on the road to traffic. All said and done, this place was a hidden gem to the passerby, but a known gem to the neighborhood, we suspect.

It's usually more solid and easier to scoop. This Acai bowll also seemed less sweet than other Acai bowls I have had. That didn't make it any less enjoyable though and that probably also means that it was healthier. Healthy while still being enjoyable is a win-win in my books. The Choco Matcha Latte was good as well. I appreciated how accommodating the restaurant was with bringing us cups to share, and splitting the bill for us. We did sense towards the end that they kinda wanted us out of there so that other people could sit in the restaurant. We'd been there for awhile though so this was very understandable and I wouldn't say that they rushed us or pressured us to leave. Tried the espresso macchiato and chocolate croissant. i actually ordered the butter croissant but it was out. The espresso macchiato was a bit disppointing. the ratio of the milk turned the espresso macchiato into a cappuccino. The chocolate croissant tasted decent. I also appreciated the thoughtfulness of warming up the croissant. However, the melted chocolate made the croissant somewhat soggy. Overall the pastries looked good, however they are on the pricer side compared to other bakeries in the area...

Now, Finch's is situated in a really cozy neighborhood in Strathcona. Really cool spot where you could spend the afternoon curled up and read a book. Sandwiches are solid. He took our food order first as we weren't decided on drinks yet and said he would return shortly after he put our food order in. He did note that since they were still new at serving the taste of tri-cities menu he wanted to get our order in right away as it tended to take longer than some of the other menu items. A few minutes later he returned for our drink order, and I requested a grape-ade drink (white grape flavoured lemonade?). Another few minute later, he returned with our drinks. Mine was absolutely delicious and reminded me of a particular Japanese white grape flavour that I love. After getting through a third of our drinks, our server returned very apologetic. He advised that our courses were taking longer than expected to be served and therefore we would be able to order another drink of choice on the house. As it hadn't even been that long, we were surprised but extremely grateful for the upfront honesty and quick action on the part of the staff. After another 10 minutes or so, our first course was set on our table. My first course was a soup of the day, which turned out to be a delicious cheddar and broccoli soup. It had some carrot slivers as well, and was a perfectly well balanced soup. My next course, the seared scallops, were brought out quite quickly and were also quite delicious. Admittedly, this was my first time trying scallops so I can't truly review them one way or another, given I didn't know what to expect from them. My third course was the beef arugula salad and although it didn't smell as appetizing given the mixture of plates I had prior, it was incredibly delicious. The meat was cooked perfectly and was just as tender and juicy as I had hoped. My fourth course, the red wine braised short rib served with fondant potatoes and roasted seasonal vegetables, was positively to die for. I, admittedly, was stuffed at this point and already knew I'd have leftovers, but I wanted to finish every bite if I was able as it truly was perfection. Finally, for my fifth course, I was given the cheesecake which was rich, creamy and delicious. It was just the right size of slice and finished off the meal wonderfully. I could not recommend this place more given the service, friendliness, ambiance, and quality of the dishes. This restaurant is incredibly welcoming, with something for everyone from morning to night.
