This is an unknown gem. We were looking for a place to eat at 9 pm a couple of months ago and went to YELP and found Caffe Piccolo. WOW! I don't know how long it has been here, but we sured missed out. I don't recall what we ate, but we remembered it was fabulous. So our first stop on this trip was here. Bread is delicious. The Caprese salad was the best! My husband had snapper and risotto that he loved. I had diver scallops over blue fin crab ravioli with an Alfredo sauce. I just can even describe how incredible it was. We have guests visiting and we have already planned our visit for next week. Atmosphere is smooth and New York City bar-ish. Service was outstanding. This little place is tucked away on the side of a building with a health food store next door. It is not easy to spot when you are driving by. (Hint: when you are heading north on 17, you turn right into the parking lot just after you pass the strip shopping center with Food Lion.) The menu is not extensive, but overall they had a decent selection of Italian favorites. I was somewhat tired, so I decided to place an order to go. I decided to go for the shrimp with marinara sauce over pasta. I had a glass of proscecco while waiting for my order. They got it ready pretty quickly. I had one of the best dining experiences of my life at Café Piccolo. Hands down a 5-star experience. I must give tons of credit for our pleasurable experience to our server, Johnny. We loved him! I can't say enough good things about him. Overall our food was amazing. We had a party of 13 and every single person LOVED their meal. I got to try the burrata special which was served over arugula with peaches, red onion, prosciutto, and balsamic. It was divine. The chicken piccata was great, and I loved that every meal came with a soup or salad. I got the tomato basil soup and it was heavenly. The Caesar dressing was quite thin - not creamy - and you could tell that the croutons were home made. Lots of people got the scallops and everyone was raving about them. I tried one for myself and it was perfectly seared on the outside and buttery on the inside. My husband really enjoyed the mussels - they virtually melted in your mouth. After our meal one of my cousins (who is a chef in Rochester) went to talk to one of the chefs at Café Piccolo. They were talking for a while and he even got to check out the kitchen. The fact that they are working with a 6-burner stove and managed to cook such tremendous food, and get it all out to the table at the same time (and hot!) was impressive. I just discovered this little gem. The bread is divine, served with herbs in a really good olive oil. Husband ordered appetizer meatballs and a cup of tomato basil soup....wow on both!! I ordered bolognese sauce which was served on a short side flat pasta, noodle was not my favorite but that sauce could win awards! This place has a beautiful covered, as well as uncovered outside seating and inside is quaint and was quite lively. This place blew me away. It was no different than the places I ate when in Italy. The burrata salad was so divine I'll probably eat here again tomorrow night. My meal was an appetizer crab cake -- fantastic and bright. Was also lucky to score limoncello sorbet for dessert, which I adore and last ate walking the streets of Sorrento. This place took me back to Italy start to finish!! *update: 2nd meal here qualifies as a top 10 meal of my life. I had the Shrimp Alla Piccolo which was dripping in creamy sherry sauce and also, was the best cook on a shrimp I've encountered. Like a delicacy! And to top it off, they let me have an absolutely epic limoncello dessert by forging their lemon layer layer cake with a scoop of limoncello parfait on the side. I'm officially dead! Before you book an evening here. Clear your schedule. We were here for over 2 hours. First the bread came out. Good bread. Then we waited half an hour for the appetizers. Meatballs were amazing. No. We haven't even seen our waiter in 39 minutes. I would get up and leave right now if I were not staving. I have eaten here 3 times in the past. No issues. However I am complied to make this night mare availed to others. Our waiter was so unfeeling to our predicament that I would never have him wait my table again. But not one person acknowledged us for 30 minutes once we were seated . Only after we notified the hostess that we had no service. She stated that it was her fault and she apologized. Start by saying the food is great, however dont eat at the bar. The bartender needs to learn how to treat customers. Rude and short with you, doesnt seem to like his profession. He allows staff to throw bottles in the trash can behind the bar, breaking them. So this was twice Ive tried the bar there, not again. read more

This was a selection on a whim. My mom decided that she wanted Italian for dinner. Usually, that's not a challenge but there are very few Italian restaurants in or around Litchfield Beach. We chose between Caffe Piccolo and Costa. It just so happens that the chef for each restaurant is one in the same. So we narrowed it down by the convenience to our location. The restaurant is a bit hard to find as its on the corner of a building tucked behind some palm trees. The front entrance is actually on the side of the building. Once inside, the staff greeted us quickly and accommodated our party of three with no trouble. Luckily, no reservation was needed. Some of the area schools aren't out for summer vacation yet. Once seated, our waitress Helen, greeted us and took our beverage order. When she returned she shared her twist on the specials that were posted on the chalkboard wall. The everyday menu isn't too overwhelming so it didn't take us long to decide on our entrees. We ordered the Tomato and Mozzarella Caprese as the appetizer, I had the tomato basil soup and my parents had Cesar salads for our meal accompaniments. My dad selected the lobster and shrimp special for the evening, my mom chose the pasta carbonara and I the crab cake pasta. Helen brought us fresh bread and seasoned olive oil for dipping. We received and enjoyed the Tomato Basil Caprese not long after placing our orders. The Tomato was delicious, mozzarella was a bit unevenly sliced but all in all, fine. It took a few minutes for our soup and salad but nothing extreme. The Tomato basil soup was divine. Creamy, fresh and paired lovely with the fresh bread. My mom enjoyed her salad without anchovies and my father asked for anchovies for his. He felt the dressing was a bit oily but the Parmesan cheese was very fresh. Once our entrees arrived we all dug right in. Mom was filling up quickly from the first few dishes so by the time her entree came, she didn't quite get to the bottom of the bowl. Her only concern was the saltiness of the pancetta. It was a bit overwhelming in the dish but it was clear that the fettuccine was homemade and she looks right past the salty meat! My dad quite enjoyed the concept of his entree but struggled with the overbearing flavor the lemon provided. A pairing of lemon and seafood is classic but this was more lemon that he would have preferred. My crab cakes were a very different world. I despise capers in any form and unfortunately the crab cakes were FULL of them. Breaking the cakes down, the crab, breading and seared sides were delicious but I did my very best to pull the capers out. There were far too many capers along with a large assortment of another vegetable I couldn't quite put my finger on. Again, the crab meat was delicious but there was quite a bit of other "stuff" in the way. I did also enjoy the fresh fettuccine but would have much preferred a different dish. Perhaps, capers, should be added to the description for the crab cakes. They can be a sore subject for some people, like myself. Otherwise, Helen had us in and out in a timely manner. The bill was reasonable considering our plates and portion size. Not terrible but it won't be our first choice for next years visit. read more

We were just there for dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday and the food and our waiter were fantastic-TG- as we were starting off on a bad footing as I had made a reservation and requested a booth - the two ladies working as hostess we're not friendly at all & we were given a very small table next to a pillar - as we were told no booth would be available and the other table for 2 that we could see was being held for friends of the owner. We would have left immediately if I could have gotten a reservation at another restaurant. The hostess would not even look at us as left- so much for hospitality. read more

I took a party of four and was very disappointed. My meal was baked tilefish, one of the specials. Restaurants often put a little bit of extra effort into their specials. This one was terrible. The fish was so overcooked that the edges broke off and crunched if eaten, which I avoided after the first one. By far one of, if not the best restaurants in Pawleys Island. The food is absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff is excellent. We first visited Caffe Piccolo this Fall. We had our two dogs and ate in the outside seating area. The waiter was on top of everything and many members of the staff came out to meet our dogs. You will not go wrong with Caffe Piccolo. I've wanted eat here for years, and we finally went last night for our wedding anniversary. It was everything we were hoping for! We had the shrimp piccolo appetizer, scallop pappardelle, and mushroom ragu with meatball. The appetizer was the belle of the ball, and came with great sauce for bread dipping! The meals were also great, I liked my scallops more than the ragu, but husband liked his ragu better than the scallops! We also had the tiramisu dessert which was perfect, very light and fluffy but perfectly rich in flavor. We had leftovers which were even better the next day! It reminded us a LOT of Costa in Murrells Inlet (which we also love) and we found out from our server that they are now owned by the same people. read more
