What I love is that they provide objective detailed descriptions; they really seem to love their stuff. And the music is great every time, too. My recommendation today is a latte with honey and black pepper and spices. Not too sweet, but something special. Chef's kiss. It's a bit echoey in here, but I didn't come to a coffee shop to be alone; the noise is a lively welcome joy. There are smaller tables inside and covered patios outside. I'm obsessed with this location. The floor-to-ceiling glass walls mean it's bright on the darkest days. The staff are all sweet and friendly. Was looking for a coffee shop with a outside seating in downtown area. While ordering my medium americano, I noticed that large was the same price so asked for large instead of medium but it seems that the barista was too busy chatting w her coworker and gave me a medium so I asked for large and she poured it into a larger cup and added some more hot water making it a watery "coffee." This Caffe Umbria location is well situated for coffee and snack before a matinee show at the Keller. There aren't a ton of seats and the space is small so it doesn't feel that comfortable for lingering to read or work on something. They also serve liquor here and I saw several people ordering espresso martinis. We got the spring special drinks - a latte with some mushroom powder and a cold brew Paloma. They both sounded pretty weird but were actually quite good and I've started making my own cold brew Paloma's at home. All in all, okay to pop in for a drink and go. Downsides are the small space and that you have to get a bathroom key for the next door building. It also took quite a bit of time to get our drinks with three people working, despite it not being super busy. read more

Been sleeping on this place for awhile but no longer! I love the modern and warm wooden interior they got going on. Plenty of seatings, great for a work spot. The staffs also have such a nice attitude and energy (big plus for an all-female team!) even during a busy morning. They got a great selection of espresso drinks, even ones I've never had before like a Cafe Marrochino. I enjoyed my double shot of espresso - nice and refreshing. Got turned-on to Cafe Umbria in 2023 after discovering their "Cupping Room" special edition beans collection. Been a regular ever since buying 3 - 4 bags a month. Needed to stock-up this afternoon after running low over the Holiday weekend and this location closes at 5 (supposedly), so it's always a sprint to get from my office to Cafe Umbria before they close. Made the dash, got there at 4:58....yes! Ms. Barista is still locking-up the patio tables and chairs....I won't have to go coffee-less in the morning. Reeeee-setttttttttttttt....... Except Ms. Barista has other ideas; she has a hot date or something, has already closed-out the till, and has no phux to give about my coffee-less Tuesday. Sad trombone.... On the other hand, I do appreciate it when a company just comes right out and tells you to your face they couldn't care less about your business...I can do without all the fake nice and passive-aggressive bs, so maybe I shoulda' added a star? Having a new coffee spot near the office is fantastic, but certainly not worth a 5 star review. The coffee and service, however, is! I love their assortment of milks (I have recently fallen in love with the subtle taste of oat milk). This morning, I am sitting here enjoying a turmeric ginger oat milk chai - tru finding that someplace else! They always have great choices for drinks, and a nice case of interesting pastries, such as a basil and cheese croissant or a celery quiche. On top of that, service is excellent and they have lots of things like "free drink Friday", for example. The place has the feel of a cafe, which is nice, but also the expediency of a coffee shop. You can see that they are engaged with customers with the simple fact that they often respond to reviews. Great job! And of course, the little chocolate piece is a nice finish. read more

So glad I stumbled upon this place while exploring downtown! I was initially headed to a different coffee shop that I hadn't realized was inside a hotel - so I changed plans to avoid hotel, and walked down the street to Umbria. The vibe was warm, open and welcoming. The baristas were genuinely kind and helpful. I sat at the barstools near the windows, but there was plenty of table seating options too. Been here three times in as many weeks. It's so very close to work, it's hard to go anywhere else for an Americano. Besides the proximity as a plus, I like the Americano! It's very good and the pastries are always tempting. I haven't had an issue with my order like other reviews have stated and they give my a 10 cent discount when I bring my own travel mug. Also, the interior feels very breezy, since two of the walls are glass. A downside is that there are two doors and the seating area is small, so it's pretty chilly inside. I'm liking Cafe Umbria more and more, and this location is no exception. I guess it's been around for a minute but it's new to me. Same reliably friendly service. Same excellent product. Same quick in-and-out experience. this location seems primarily geared towards the nearby office towers, as I don't think there's much residential traffic to speak of. There's a larger outdoor area that is somewhat lacking in charm, but if the sun is out in Portland, you take what you can get. It could be a good place to work. For me, it's more of a place to stop by and get a latte before heading to the river for a dog walk. But that's good enough for me. A welcome addition. read more
