I've only been here one but it was delicious! I had a blt sandwhich which was amazing fresh, but the other half I ate when I got to my destination was less so, I would recommend eating there vs taking to go, for that sandwhich at least. The bread was so soft and fluffy, and the blueberry muffin I got was great too, I'll be back to try more!

First of all, if you are celiac of have a severe gluten allergy-- Against the Grain is the place to eat! This restaurant is 100% gluten free and offers a wide selection of foods. You can't find many places that take cross contamination seriously let alone celiac disease. Whether it's breakfast, lunch , dinner or just craving a treat--Paula and the rest of the Against the Grain staff have you covered with affordable GLUTEN FREE food that's actually delicious!! We are regular customers now and this restaurant will always have our business.

I can't believe I have just discovered this place. Being GF, I'm always looking for places that offer GF options. Well, this place is 100% Gluten free. Their food is so good. I took my family there and the rest of them are not GF and they couldn't even tell the difference. They have such an amazing biscuits and gravy. It was so nice to be able to eat biscuits and gravy, it's something I have missed from childhood. Theirs is so good. I also ate a breakfast biscuit which was also very tasty. We ended our last trip there with donuts which we all enjoyed. As an added bonus they do have a ton of gluten free products for sale, some that I didn't even realize existed. I highly recommend Against the Grain!

Great and central location in downtown Mesa. My husband and I were exploring the museums and shops nearby and stopped in here for lunch. The service is friendly and prompt. Their niche here is offering foods that are not naturally gluten free in a gluten free version. If you are looking for healthy- this isn't it. There doesn't really seem to be any naturally gluten free items on the menu such as a salad. Also it appears they don't really use vegetables much. My chicken wings didn't come with a side of celery or carrots- even though the menu shows a picture of celery. If you are dairy free like myself- there are some options on the menu, but it is quite limited. They do have vegan cheese for pizza. Don't expect any baked goods because there is nothing in the case dairy free. I asked for the sauce on the side of my wings and the chef forgot and dumped a bunch of sauce on the wings. The server did ask if this would be ok and I don't like wasting food so I said yes. But it was a lot of spice for me and would have preferred to have less buffalo sauce on the chicken wings. If you like tons of sauce- you will love their wings. The orange chicken was decent. Overall- I'm not going out of my way to eat here, but if I'm in the area I'll definitely stop by. I prefer to eat healthier and this doesn't have options for that. If you are looking for comfort food- this is the spot.

The food was fine, and the mocha was just chocolate milk with coffee. It wasn't for me, but I respect that everything was gluten free and still tasted decent. Also, top notch customer service.

Enjoyed a savory breakfast sandwich with coffee and picked up some tasty treats to bring to friends afterward, as a gluten free taste test. Nice little cafe with good coffee and friendly service. Mmm, yes the treats passed the test and we're headed back for more!

All the stars - I so wish this was a chain throughout the valley. Today we trekked to Mesa - this has been on my radar for some time and today was the day! We split the mozz sticks and the buffalo chicken sandwich. Can I tell you how AMAZING it is to have a GF bun that tastes normal? People don't understand how terrible their frozen GF options taste- making this place all the more special. Will definitely be back!

I had a few bad experiences the previous times I went here, but last time I got to talk to the girl who got moved into management. She was so kind and said to always feel free to ask for her when I go there. Of course their food was amazing as always! I went kinda late, super close to closing time, but I always feel like the environment is very calming. They have a lot of board games that you can play with while waiting for your order!

    Gluten-free products available for purchase!

Yay, an awesome gluten-free restaurant in Downtown Mesa! Against the Grain offers a variety of options... so whether you're craving some tasty cookies... or brownies or Orange Chicken over rice... or just looking to buy the ingredients to make your own gluten-free dishes at home, you're covered! The Orange Chicken is very good... although next time I would order it with less sauce. That's just my preference. The breaded chicken and flavor of the sauce were both excellent! I also ordered a Chicken Egg Roll. It had been forever since I've had an egg roll... and it makes me so happy that I can come here and enjoy egg rolls again! Very good! Prices are reasonable for all the foods and baked goods... and service is excellent! Overall rating: *****FIVE STARS***** Gluten-free rating: *****FIVE STARS*****

I have all the intentions of going through the menu, but darn it, I keep ordering the orange chicken with rice -- because well, it's the bomb! It's not as cheap as the one you would get at the local american-chinese fast food, but it's a haven from the world of gluten. Pastries are good ( love the lemon loaf), and the banana pudding is just a delight. Service is friendly, they have comfortable sofa chairs while waiting for to-go orders.

THE BAKED GOODS SHOWCASE! WOW!!!! Love. First time: For someone who does not have to eat gluten free, this place is great! Their tartar sauce is the best I've ever had and I grew up in Wisconsin where fish fry Fridays are a regular thing. And Against the Grain has the best tartar sauce hands down. Mozzarella sticks are hand breaded and crunchy and delicious! Great prices!!! Second time: Welp, it's confirmed. I do have celiac like my sister. Decided to come here again because we know it's celiac safe. Had to get the filet-o-fish sandwhich because of course I needed the tartar sauce. Oreo shake!!!!! Again, great prices, fantastic service! Wonderful place for a quick bite! KEEP IN MIND: it's not an "up scale" restaurant, or a place to compare with a lot of places. But it's a WONDERFUL reasonably priced restaurant where those with allergies can eat themselves and bring their friends and family. Which is extremely hard to find.

Against The Grain 100% Gluten Free Restaurant, Bakery and small grocery located in DT Mesa. They have all kinds of gluten free grocery goodies to take home, a nice size restaurant menu and bakery items. Justin & Amanda are super sweet and even let me sample their homemade bread, which I kinda gave up on bread because gf bread just isn't it, BUT their bread was really good and you can buy a loaf, and also I sampled their mozzarella sticks. DELISH!! I'm so glad to have found another 100% GF place that I actually like. Also I purchased their orange chicken bowl- so good, already halfway thru eating it lol. And a banana pudding and pumpkin cupcake. Definitely worth checking out for sure!

Great gluten free food! We tried several dishes and all were great! Mozzarella sticks were delicious and crunchy! The chicken tenders were crunchy and delicious! I asked my son is it good, he said good... No It's GREAT! So nice to have so many GF safe options! Fun little store shelves and games to play inside!

We arrived for breakfast and the place was packed. Even so, we were seated within a few minutes. Menus were brought for us to peruse. For a starter we both had a large glass of cranberry juice. $3. Emphasis should be on the word large, as in most places you would get a small glass for the same price. Companion ordered the "Fresh Start", which is a big bowl of oatmeal which comes with cranberries, raisins, walnuts, brown sugar, and milk ($6). Companion was unable to finish it all. For myself, I had the Hawaiian omelet which had ham, bacon, pineapple, and mozzarella cheese. While I must admit I have never before had an omelet with these ingredients, it was delicious and big. I could not finish it all. The coffee was bottomless and the service was excellent. Unlike many other places that serve breakfast, we were made to feel truly at home, with friendly people all around. We will be going back again and again, possibly for lunch next time. This is a new favorite place to eat for us. Sanitation was good and food came out quickly. 5 stars.

He mentioned a pickle martini, which I ordered at lunch and was very good. My wife ordered the welcome burger and enjoyed it except for them getting the toppings wrong. Our granddaughter really liked her mac and cheese and there was a generous serving of sliced fruit. And my Jose Burger had just enough spice and was very tasty. That what's the good. So we stopped here for lunch on a Friday about 12:30 with our 3-year-old granddaughter. Our initial server barely said two words to us and we felt like we were an imposition. When we ordered my wife asked did they have Pepsi or Coke products he said we have bottles and cans of everything, so she ordered a Coke. It was Mexican Coke which is fine, but $5, and it wasn't until we noticed other people had cans of regular Coke and realized he did not give us a choice. When we ordered our burgers, again he barely said two words and did not ask us how we wanted them cooked even though the menu says cook to order. When we got them they were very rare, see the picture, which we're okay with although we would have ordered them a little more done. My wife said no onions on hers, and of course there was onions on her berger. Later we were served by a waitress who was much more friendly and we realize was probably just not there yet when we sat down, so the initial waiter didn't really care what we thought since we weren't going to be his customers at the end. So sadly what could have been a very pleasant lunch was spoiled by the initial waiter, even though the food was good we may not be back.
