Stopped by for lunch and to take a quick work meeting, and omg this place is SO cute. I'm obsessed with the vintage vibe it just feels cozy and aesthetic all at once. I ordered a matcha lemonade and it was sooo refreshing, perfect for a sunny day. I can't remember the name of the sandwich, but it had turkey, avocado, lettuce, bacon, and pepperoncini peppers... literally to die for!!! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted right away and everyone was super polite. The ambiance is beautiful inside and out, but I chose to sit on the patio and it was such a vibe good food, fresh air, and the nicest breeze. read more

Had no idea this cafe existed. Has a really quite extensive menu for the size of the establishment. Saw some folks drinking root beer floats which is very fun. Decor is something out of a 1950s Americana /grandmas living room/Cracker Barrel fever dream which is kitschy and fun and interesting to stare at as you try to choose a sandwich. Service was kind and attentive and they bus the food to your seat. Would def make a repeat visit esp to sit out in their spacious outdoor patio space. read more

I stumbled across this place on Yelp and was perplexed by its description that I had to drive out to North Hollywood and check it out. It's the cutest and quaintest little spot. It's a bit quirky too but in all the best ways. The people working there are absolutely precious... so kind and warm. The atmosphere is welcoming and rustic. I adore the outside garden patio on a perfect La Day . My fave part- the food. Sandwiches and so satisfying. The SOUP is scrumptious. They even season the raw veggies to perfection. This feels down-homey, like a general store, should. I enjoyed working out on the patio with all the plants (plants are my jam) and the incredibly patient employee helped me overcome my complete overwhelm at the encyclopedic menu. It all sounded AMAZING and I wanted to try every single sandwich! Even though I only had a half sandwich, which she so graciously offered because I wasn't too ravenous, it came with crinkle cut chips that were perfect. The sandwich was DELISH-- curry chicken salad. Been coming here since I was 14yrs old. I have sweet memories of riding my bike here to pick up sandwiches for my bff and us devouring them while watching music videos. 6 yrs ago when I was pregnant I craved their chicken salad sandwich everyday!! Now my son and I come here. He enjoys the history of the store and of course their sandwiches. This place is super special and of course delicious! read more

LOVE this place for sandwiches. Healthy and everything is so fresh. I love the filling ingredients. I only have two pictures but I've tried so many items on the menu and everything is as delicious as the other. We loved this place! We got the Bomb breakfast sandwich, Fire Bird turkey sandwich, cold press coffee, and oat milk latte and YUM. The woman who took our order was lovely and the staff were helpful. I've got visitors in town, and the service made the stop even better -- genuinely friendly, quick, and welcoming. I've been coming to Cahuenga General Store for over a decade. My most recent visit this past April was the best yet. We ordered two sandwiches, the New Yorker (roast beef, ham, and cheddar) and the Bleu Bird (sliced chicken, bacon, bleu cheese, Swiss, caramelised onions, and tart apple slices. Both were served on warm French rolls with a raw veg mix of carrots and cucumbers, salted and peppered. One may select a bag of chips instead of the crudités when ordering. The New Yorker was excellent, but the Bleu Bird was superb. The bread and the chicken were so good, and I don't even like Swiss or bacon, but they elevated the flavour of the sandwich rather than overpowering it, complemented by the crisp, juicy apple. We also ordered a bottled root beer and a lemonade. The lemonade was made from scratch right in front of us, and was perfectly tart-sweet and refreshing. We sat outside on the patio, which was breezy and shady on a typical April SoCal day. Hummingbirds and butterflies buzzed by. The pleasant and efficient waitstaff brought everything out to us when it was ready. We had the patio to ourselves on an April Thursday. There is indeed an old-timey-looking "general store" inside - an 1800s Wild West aesthetic with antique items on display, and a few products like pretty notecards available for purchase. I'm not sure about parking as we live within walking distance, but on a weekday, there should be some street parking available right in front. read more

Looking for a lunch spot in the area, I saw great reviews for the Cahuenga General Store that convinced me to give it a try! I went on a weekend afternoon, and the person taking my order was friendly and willing to answer menu questions. They offer a wide variety of sandwiches, beverages, and salads (and there is a chalkboard with daily specials too). I ended up getting one of their sandwich specials: the Cali Club. This was a turkey club sandwich that included pepperoncini and smashed avocado, and it was a tasty and filling meal. For sandwiches, you have an option of kettle chips or mixed vegetables for your sandwich side, and I enjoyed the chips! The fresh lemonade was also a plus, and there was ample interior and exterior seating. read more

I've been driving by this place for years, always wanted to stop by and just haven't had the time. Finally decided to stop in for an early dinner today. It's got such a nice vibe to it, very vintage. The decor sends you back in time and they have a little setup in the corner where I assume they sometimes have live music. Their outdoor patio is beautiful, plant heaven. I happened to be the only person eating in today, so service was pretty quick, sweet and super attentive. I ordered the half sandwich and requested the Oscar Wilde curry sandwich. The side salad was a little average, but very edible and a good size. The sandwich was truly the star of the show. Didn't realize I was such a big fan of curry sandwiches, it had cashews in it and gave such a lovely crunchy texture. Soooo good and would return for a full sized sandwich, asap. The half sandwich combo consists of a half sandwich of your choosing, salad or soup and a can soda for about $17.50. They have many can soda options. Overall a very relaxing, fun dining experience. Might opt for the soup next time. read more

Cute little spot, friendly service and what an excellent sandwich! The turkey sandwich off the board didn't fall apart (love that in a sandwich), the right amount of ingredients (only thing I wish it was slices of avocado instead of a spread), and the generous helping of ruffle chips on the side hit the spot when I got home. decided to stop by Cahuenga General store after going to a nearby park. the younger girl who took our orders was super kind but the older lady that was helping had a bad attitude and seemed like she didn't want to be there. my sister and I both ordered salads and my nephew ordered a cold sandwich. we grabbed a table in their outdoor patio and waited....and waited....and waited... i think it took about 30 minutes for our food to come out.. and again, we ordered 2 salads and a cold sandwich. I'm not sure what was taking so long but we ended up late to our next appointment and didn't have time to enjoy our food. food was also overpriced for what we received and the parking is absolutely terrible. read more

A hidden gem with an old saloon vibe to it. The store is a lot of fun with vintage goods both for sale and decoration. To make it even better, they also have a coffee bar and a menu with seating inside and outside. We ordered an iced matcha latte and the caesar salad. I have never noticed this place or even heard about it even though I passed by it so many times. Today while looking for a coffee place on Yelp this came up so o had to check it out. What a nice find. Cute cafe with so much charm, so many vintage items all around. They have many sandwiches and salads to choose from. I ordered the Henry Miller Sandwich which was super delicious. Only $13 ...I loved every bite of it. Made with feta cheese, pepperoncini, avocado, cucumber, tomato, onion, tapenade and Italian dressing on toasted ciabatta bread .... Yummm. Will go back just to eat that again. All the sandwiches sounded good though so I'll have to try others as well. I also ordered an iced coffee and it was good. The prices are good and the customer service was super. I took a few minutes to sit at their outside patio to enjoy my sandwich, it was full of beautiful plants. I usually get the warm pear and feta, but I am also partial to the Californian and the James Dean. The health nut salad is also really good if you're in the mood for something lighter. They usually have a great soup of the day option, and they make smoothies and either a fresh juice or lemonade every day. Also have antiques for sale, cool stuff to peruse while you wait for your food. If you work in Burbank, this is a great place to grab work lunch and take it back to your desk. read more

Hallenbeck's RULES. I eat there all the time in between rehearsals (I go to The Acting Corps, which is right next door). The food is great, and really cheap for how much food you get. The decor is amazing, like you went back in time, or something. The staff is friendly. The only bitch that I have is that sometimes it can take up to 15-20 minutes for a sandwich. I cut them some slack, though, because it is a small staff and sometimes they are slammed. Overall, an almost perfect little restaurant. read more

I and my coworkers like this place a lot. The food is homemade, creative, and always tastes good. We are even on a first name basis with the owner and some of the staff, as we come often. This is a homey small business, which is refreshing in this world of soul-less franchises and fast food chains. The rental props and antiques which fill the room make the General Store place a charming venue to take clients. Some people even hang out here for coffee while working on computers. Came with Bacon, Chicken Sausage, Mozzarella Cheese, Greens, Tomato, and Egg. Chris added a nice scoop of Avocado--free of charge. The total was $30.80. Didn't make or break the bank. Last but not least got a Purple Ube Matcha ($6.99), made to perfection!! With Oat milk. Food was out of this world. Very tasty, fresh and nice portions for the prices. Place was clean, with 2 restrooms. One for women, and one for men. No parking, which is a bummer. Street and metered parking only. The sandwich was generously portioned, and looked quite good, though the texture of the croissant screamed "commercial bakery delivery" rather than anything made in-house. The eggs were fresh and properly prepared, the Swiss had a good bite, and the bacon was appealingly sweet (I didn't detect any real spice). A small side of hash browns were nicely crisped and had good flavor. Overall, the sandwich was fine, but I would have enjoyed it more on a better quality croissant or almost any other house-baked bread. And so, this was a completely serviceable breakfast, but nothing to write home about or race back to. I'd rather head to Pascal, where they have a much larger menu, and the baked goods are truly excellent.

This restaurant has been part of our lives for a long time, so it honestly makes me sad to write this review. I understand that prices have gone up everywhere, and I don't mind paying more when the quality of the food is still good. Unfortunately, I feel like the food quality here has gotten worse recently. The last time my son and I came, our meal for two people was almost $100 with the tip. On top of that, a very small container of orange juice was $5.99, which felt extremely expensive. Today, we came back hoping things would be better, but unfortunately the bacon was completely burned, just like the last time. I'm really disappointed because I have so many good memories of this restaurant. When I compare the food to other restaurants nearby, I feel that there are now places serving better-quality food for a more reasonable price. It makes me sad to say this, but after being a loyal customer for so many years, I may not be coming back. The workers were extremely nice and accommodating, specially when it came to personal requests on altering my order. I got their breakfast platter which consisted of pancakes, potato wedges, bacon and eggs. I replaced the coffee for a hot chocolate and I had absolutely zero regrets. The food tasted homemade as if my own mother had made it. The food was a little too overly seasoned which is never a wrong thing, specially for the right person, just a personal preference it was a little too much for a simple breakfast.
