Before today, I associated Boiling Crab with Cajun/Creole food. Today, unfortunately, I realized that I'm not a fan of jambalaya or gumbo, which are basically the staples of Cajun cuisine. I came here with a group of friends for lunch at around noon on Friday. We all ordered off the Cajun Specialties menu because we figured we could get standard breakfast food anywhere. Creole Jambalaya ($8.25) - Plenty chunks of Louisiana Spicy Sausage and shrimp immersed in rice and soup. I had so few pieces of chicken that I almost forgot there was supposed to be any in this dish. For the price, this dish had a decent portion size. I imagined jambalaya to be thicker, but this dish was relatively soupy. I'm not a fan of the taste, nor the heat - in terms of both food and the bball team. The homemade cornbread that accompanied the jambalaya was definitely the best part of the meal. It was sweet and crumbly, just like cornbread should be. File Gumbo ($7.50) - My friend ordered a small gumbo, and the portion-size was pretty reasonable as well. It was much soupier than the jambalaya, and she complained that it was watery and tasteless. She added a lot of cajun seasoning just to add some sort of flavor. It definitely fell short of expectations. Looking back, I wish I had ordered a normal breakfast item like French Toast. Damn my adventurous foodie nature. Oh well, at least now I know I'm not a fan of Cajun food. That'll save me some money in the future, I'm sure. read more

Super rude server refused to seat me with my pups, even though there was another table there with dogs already. Definitely couldn't help but feel like she was discriminating/biased towards me. Such a shame because every other place in SB is so dog friendly and accommodating - esp with all the current outdoor seating. Currently I am at Cajun Kitchen on Chapala and I have to say I as a former waitress with experience in the restaurant business have never experienced so much rudeness!! From the busboy, to the manager, who is doing nothing but preparing to go orders while hot food is not getting run and just sitting there!! After visiting New Orleans, I have been craving southern food so much. Spent a night in Santa Barbara for work, was wanting some brunch. This place popped up on yelp, and I decided to give it a try. You will not regret it! First of all, service was amazing. Normally the beignets basket comes with 8 of them. I asked the waiter if it's possible to get 1, he said let me check with the chef, brought me back 2 and charged me for 1! So nice! The jambalaya is a must try, it is so flavorful and savory! Santa Barbara really has it all. So it's impressive to say that this place is a gem. I got the shrimp & andouille grits, which is described on the menu as, "sautéed shrimp and andouille sausage in a bowl of grits w/ melted cheddar, topped with 2 eggs any style". I can't explain how perfect it was to start wine tasting in Santa Barbara with a delicious, hearty meal. I can't stop thinking about it, months later. The food here was fabulous! Make sure you get the cornbread. Service was really good they don't have many tables outside in the parking lot so there might be a little bit longer wait but it's definitely worth it. My friend had the gumbo and couldn't stop raving about it, I had the feta, egg white, mushroom and spinach omelette with home fries. Came here on a Saturday morning with only a 15 minute wait! The decor is fantastic and the service is great. Had one of the specials, a shrimp and andouille étouffée omelette with home fries, a biscuit, and apple juice. The omelette was AMAZING and I was wowed that the apple juice was fresh. I give this 2 stars because I felt the service was amazing. I only gave it 2 stars because I ordered the breakfast burrito #2 with Chili, and it came out steaming, but the inside was cold. I really have a problem with cold food (when it is supposed to be hot). I think I was doubly disappointed because it came out steaming and I was very excited to dig in to a nice hot breakfast. When it was cold, I was quite surprised. I had to take a few bites to believe it was really that cold when it looked so wonderfully hot. I did order outside of my comfort zone, so perhaps I am not the best to judge this one. It was very large, so if you're hungry I would think this would be a great order. The server was exceptional and my coffee was very hot and full. The place was packed and the tables turned over quickly. The atmosphere is quite loud, but that is as expected for a place like this. They have a very small parking lot which you may get in, but I feel like it is pretty hard to get out. I parked at Ralph's since I was going to do some grocery shopping. It is a short 1 block walk. It is right next to the car wash, so an extra bonus would be to drop the car for a clean and run in for a bite. I was wishing I had done that. read more

I was very excited to have breakfast at cajun kitchen, as I hadn't been in a long time, and was very disappointed in the service. The waiter, who said his name was Luis, was very obviously hungover and looked miserable. He started off by asking "what do you wanna drink" and whenever I tried to get his attention for a refill, I was blatantly ignored. I understand that everyone has stuff going on in their personal life, however it isn't that difficult to take some responsibility and simply not be hungover at work. I also noticed that the way he spoke to his coworkers was very unprofessional. I noticed that he was making a particular female coworker very uncomfortable in the way that he interacted with her. As a woman who has also had to deal with creepy coworkers, I hope that 1) she asked him to stop, 2) he did stop, and 3) management notices not only this review but also his actions and proceeds the proper course of action. Amazing experience; great food, great service.... from the moment we were seated till the moment we left. The person who brought the coffee was quick, friendly and attentive; the server was thorough, quick, & returned to check on us . The sausage selection with breakfast was great; andouille and hot sausages were flavorful and all food cooked as requested. Bacon crisp and perfect.... coffee is outstanding. The old man thought he would please me by taking me to my favorite restaurant, unfortunately for him the restaurant has changed its menu and gone color blind. I ordered chili verde and poached eggs, he also ordered chili verde with over easy eggs. The verde was served in a separate dish and as you can see did not mitt the minimum requirements of its name, the taste was of overcooked pork and watered down muck . Left with full tummies and satiated hearts They don't have an espresso machine, which was my only complain along with the fact that they served store brought jelly - would've loved to see house made jams on the table. Good little diner if you're in SB. It's American diner food with a Cajun/New Orleans influence. I had the French Quarter omelet, with spicy sausage, avocado, mushrooms, and jack cheese. Pretty good... but my girlfriend got the Huevos Rancheros. Wow-wow-woo-ee. A giant pile of food with New Orleans style rice, this is the thing to get on the restaurant's menu. Good beignets and great service too... our waiter was always there to top off our water and coffees (extremely necessary the morning after a night of drinking). I found this spot on Yelp and it is by far the best food I have had in SB. The wait was not long(10 min) despite it being busy and parking was easy. The service was excellent and the food was as well. I ordered the Jambalaya w/ Eggs (spicy) and my wife ordered the Crab Cakes with Pouched Eggs.
