My family and I came here for lunch today! We were seated right away out on the patio. Our food came out pretty quick! I got the seafood gumbo, it was pretty decent, but the cornbread was my favorite part. I also got a Bloody Mary, which is made with Soju, definitely a different taste but was still pretty tasty! The chicken and waffles were amazing. We went on a sunday mid day so it was a bit busy but they sat us pretty fast. Only a 15 minute wait. The food came out in a timely manner. The server was very attentive to us. The beignets were so light and fluffy and the powdered sugar on top was delicious. The chicken on my chicken and waffles had so much flavor. Food - Gumbo!!!! I love gumbo and the gumbo here is one of the best!! If there was only one dish to try here it's definitely the gumbo. It's delicious, flavorful, hearty, fulfilling, and satisfying....and I can't wait to come back. As for other dishes my wife got the Veggie Mismash and it was delicious for a vegentarian dish she said. And my son loved grilled cheese fries. Service - Wonderful service! The host let us pick where to sit and the server was attentive and kept the coffee flowing and the drinks full. Ambiance - Came here after the breakfast rush so it wasn't as busy inside. So. To be clear. This place has great service, and I know it's well loved locally. That said- this is *not* a 'Cajun' kitchen. Issa diner. Bless it. Coming from the south, with close proximity and many visits to New Orleans- I advise anyone with any palate or taste of NO cuisine- to just skip those dishes. Not the shrimp and grits (watery, unseasoned, no sauce, the lightest colored shrimp I've ever seen- IYKYK), and everything else jambalaya/gumbo. These dishes have never met a roux, and it shows. The beignets were made with pancake batter- tasty, but again- stahpppp it with the Cajun. Cafe du Monde would nevahhh. I'm craving some creole in the kitchen. It's giving recipes from memory and YouTube, not experience. Grab a bit of the classics- eggs, bacon, biscuits- anything deep fried- and you're solid. Price point is right, wait is a smidge long but it goes fast or you can head straight to the bar. Overall, not knocking this place one bit- but if you're looking for a speciality breakfast, this isn't the move- but if you're hungry looking for diner dishes (and don't mind waiting) then this could be your spot. My 400th review goes to Cajun Kitchen! This review is long overdue and definitely worth mentioning. It is afterall one of our most popular spots in town for breakfast. I don't come here as often as I'd like, because the weekend is my preference to dine here, but that's when it gets really busy. Long lines and wait time, no thank you. I highly recommend coming here on a weekday if you can swing it. My son was craving beignets and their California benedict, and luckily it was on a weekday so I called in the order ahead of time. That would be the other option if you are coming here on the weekend and pressed for time. Outside dining is available in the parking lot, where a nice little parklet is set up. As of right now 6.15.21 indoor dining is also available with limited seating. The food was nicely prepared and still warm by the time I got home. I loved the beignets! I'm glad they didn't go heavy on the powdered sugar. They were lightly dusted and the warm strawberries n banana topping was excellent! My son also enjoyed his California Benedict and hash browns. As for me I didn't order anything on my latest visit here, but the meals I've had in the past have all been delicious. Santa Barbara is full of fancy high brow modern eateries for brunch. Cajun Kitchen Cafe is more old school Americana diner style, with a nice flair of Cajun. Sunday mornings are busy, the friendly hostess quoted us a 20-30 minute wait, but we actually got seated in about 10 minutes, yay! $5 Beignets...not sure how authentic these were, but they were a soft, sugary, and tasty treat! $14.50 Fried Chicken Benedict...I would've skipped the Beignets has I know how MASSIVE this dish would be! HUGE fried, delicious, crispy, succulent, and perfectly spiced chicken on top of a couple thick country biscuits. Crispy bacon, 2 poached eggs, and gravy poured over it all...I think this deliciousness was probably 2000-2500 calories worth of food when you included the lovely crispy and buttery hashbrowns. $13 Hawaiian Waffle...FRESH and generous pineapple chunks and coconut flakes on top of a perfect Belgian Waffle. Added an egg and bacon for just $2 more. Staff was all friendly and generous on the coffee refills. Not sure when I'll be in Santa Barbara again, but I definitely need to have that Fried Chicken Benedict in me again before I die. read more

This was my first time at this popular brunch spot, and I was excited to be seated immediately as I usually see a wait out the door. Unfortunately, service was slow and forgetful and the food was only okay. It took us three tries to get waters to the table, and even more for napkins. I would have gotten a second Michelada, but we barely saw our server after we got our food. In retrospect, I'm glad I saved the $8 anyway. I love Cajun food, and tempered my expectations since we're pretty far from the bayou in Southern California. I should have tempered a bit more. First off, the table cornbread was so dry it made that water incredibly necessary. My crab cakes in my weekend special benedict were so salty and fishy that they were barely edible. I would have sent them back, but nobody came to ask how we were doing so I ate a bit out of pure necessity (trading some with my brunch partner who graciously gave me some of his) and didn't want to be the person sending back a half-eaten dish. The hashbrowns were fine. The entire dish was cold. My friend had jambalaya and it was fine. Nothing to write home about but tasted WAY less fishy than my benedict. It was lacking that Cajun spice though, we ended up pouring some hot sauce on top. The one standout was the beignets. Sweet, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and topped with fruit and caramel. These were delicious. Perhaps I'll be back to try a seafoodless dish next time to be safe. read more

Grabbed breakfast here last weekend while in town for a couple days. I sat outside in their converted parking lot - really cute and super comfortable! Ordered: THE RANCHERS OMELET (one of their favorites): Yummy! It's a ton of food and FULL of tomatoes, cheese and bacon. And I mean F U L L! The avocado on top was a perfect addition - plus they didn't skimp thank goodness. The hash browns were crunchy and wonderfully browned (I always ask for extra crisp). We came here for breakfast at around 10:30 on a Thursday and it was busy. We didn't have to wait long for a table inside and despite being busy, our server was attentive and didn't rush us. They have a large menu and I would have loved to come for lunch too. I would come back just for their biscuits. Oh MY LANTA THOSE BISCUITS! They were flaky, tall, soft & buttery. We split their French Quarter omelette with hash browns and a biscuit instead of toast. I honestly would have just eaten biscuits but you know, limits. The cooks actually split our order into two plates which I've never seen before and the has browns were so crispy on the outside. The omelette had a cajun style andouille sausage that had a slight kick. Fried chicken with waffles was scrumptious, although, the chicken was a little overcooked and somewhat hard. Eggs benedict with canadian bacon and potatoes or hashbrowns is always a go to. Potatoes with veggies cheese and egg of a breakfast pizza is a real craving. I appreciate the wide selection of teas with tea pot. The outdoor seating is wonderful with well behaved pets welcome. Grateful they had crawfish etouffee on the menu. It is my favorite. In fact it is a hobby of mine to find it. I traveled the western USA for many years for work, and when searching for dinner I looked for it. I have now tried it at most Cajun restaurants across the western USA. This was a 7. It had crawfish and was hot, cooked correctly with onions, bell peppers, and celery. But they added spice, like tabasco, that made it hot rather than sweet. I try to keep an open mind, and ate most of it, but do wish they had not added the spice. They also had too much sauce, compared to rice. They could save some cost by putting a lump of rice in the middle and pouring the sauce around it. read more

The hashbrowns with the scramble were cooked well done, which is how we like them. The amount of home fries that came with the omelette was obscene. Came to Cajun Kitchen for brunch on Saturday. They've converted their parking lot space to outdoor dine-in, so parking can be found on the street (Canon Perdido). Menus are QR-code scanned, which I found convenient and sanitary during COVID. Tables are socially distanced and umbrellas provided for shade. Staff was friendly and service was fairly quick. Although there was a wait after we got the last table, I saw other parties get seated rather quickly. Tables are cleaned immediately after each party leaves. We ordered: -Jambalaya Breakfast (comes with 2 eggs made your choice - we ordered Over-Medium) and cornbread. This dish was good, spicy and flavorful. Generous amounts of shrimp and chicken. The cornbread tasted fine. -Crab Cake Benedict and we ordered it with Hashbrowns.
