Came to Cajun Kitchen for brunch on Saturday. They've converted their parking lot space to outdoor dine-in, so parking can be found on the street (Canon Perdido). Menus are QR-code scanned, which I found convenient and sanitary during COVID. Tables are socially distanced and umbrellas provided for shade. Staff was friendly and service was fairly quick. Although there was a wait after we got the last table, I saw other parties get seated rather quickly. Tables are cleaned immediately after each party leaves. We ordered: -Jambalaya Breakfast (comes with 2 eggs made your choice - we ordered Over-Medium) and cornbread. This dish was good, spicy and flavorful. Generous amounts of shrimp and chicken. The cornbread tasted fine. -Crab Cake Benedict and we ordered it with Hashbrowns. Honestly, the hollandaise sauce overpowered the crab cakes' flavor, but I thought it was a good and filling dish. read more

We been here few times for breakfast and have enjoyed our visit each time. Service is quick and food is solid. Coffee refillls are constant which I like. Lots of breakfast options from typical American traditional to Cajun theme dishes, including daily specials. Space is your standard cafe setup with huge counters, cozy booths and tables. Paking lot is small and limited, street parking is a good alternative. Beignets for starters are scrumptious. It arrived piping hot, perfectly fluffy and light. You snooze, you miss out...we devoured it instantly. We ordered spinach and mushroom omelette and fried chicken benedict. Both dishes are fabulous and on point. Fried chicken are cooked just right, biscuit think/dense and the gravy had the perfect consistency. Creole seasing and cajun hot sauce provided at every table are the perfect condiments. All in all, we were all stuff and satisifed. Food is reasonably priced for the quantity you get. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a good hearty meal, make sure to start off with beignets first though. Note: I read on another review that they put MSG on their food. You can pay extra for additional fruits, whipped cream, and caramel toppings. Crab Cakes Benedict - Offered weekends only, served with your choice of fries, hashbrown, or grits (fruit substitute available for $1.00). Very well seasoned crab cake patty, and the hollandaise was rich and creamy. The poached egg was also perfectly runny. I wasn't a fan of the English muffin, it was burnt and the edges were charred. Standard brunch fare - Occasionally I'm in the mood for something simple, and you can't go wrong with french toast, waffles, or a classic stack of pancakes. Love the different toppings and customizations they offer. Myself and my party were all impressed and pleased with our brunch experience. We've been driving past here and wanting to try it. It did not disappoint. Our waitress Alma was super nice and friendly. She was very accommodating of our chaotic ordering process and substitutions. All the staff were attentive, polite, and promt. The food was served on the gate side, yet it didn't impact the quality. All our dishes were delicious and items we would order again. - Jambalaya had a good amount of meat to veggies ratio. One person out of 5 found it too spicy, and the rest of us thought it was spot on. - Chicken and waffles were really yummy. I'm not anyways a fan of waffles or strawberries, and I thought the whole dish came together really well. The chicken had nicely fried coating. The drumstick meat was slightly overcooked (not uncommon in fried chicken), and the wing was perfect. - Crab cakes Benedict was made to perfection. Everyone enjoyed it and was the star of the table. - The burger was giant and very messy, very tasty though. We did have to switch to a fork and knife part at through a it fell apart. Ate here for brunch during Fiestas weekend, it was pretty packed but we were seated and served with haste and a smile so can't complain there. There are so many options here but I'm afraid we just picked the wrong things. The Benedict was just alright (the description made it sound divine) the gravy felt way too heavy and the biscuits were quite dry making this dish hard to finish. The gumbo was too thin and way too salty. It would have been better if the ingredients were cut thicker but they all kind of got lost in the stew. The classic beignets were nice and fresh however (please correct me if I'm wrong) they were incredibly dense with bread. I'm used to them being a bit fluffier or nearly hollow on the inside to highlight the crispy outside. read more

I've lived in SB longer than there has been a Cajun Kitchen. I ate breakfast at the DeLa Vina location for years I've moved on and so should the current Cajun Kitchen crew. I sat at the counter, insuring fast service...not! The server was busy chatting it up with the only other person at the counter. I like their Huevos rancheros, but the new menu says "our version" . My oh-oh radar went up. It came with hard fried tortillas (how do you cut thru those?), slices of avo,and about 1/2 lb. Of white rice in the middle. Not too many beans, just a sampling under the huge mound of rice. Eggs were done right, and on top of, you guessed it, RICE! The rice overwhelmed the entire dish, left very little flavor, little sauce, very dissatisfying.. Too many other good places to go. I wont be back! read more

The popularity is evident in the lines that form ever Saturday and Sunday mornings. PRO TIP if you're a single or double, sit at the bar quickly and easily. You may even strike up a fun conversation. The Cajun twist is what makes this Santa Barbara staple a must visit. Where else can you order Jambalaya & Eggs $14.50 or a Huevos Rancheros with red beans and rice $12.00? Sure, there's Bacon/Eggs/Toast and the best hash browns in town $11.50, omelets, bennies and other traditional, breakfast fare. This is Cajun so don't forget the Beignets $4.25. What I'm saying is there's something for everyone at this greasy spoon. Family friendly and loud with room for 13 at the bar, a few tables and mostly booths. Parties of 5 or more will be tough as there are only 2 big booths. Parking can be tricky in Santa Barbara. Take a lap through the back and if it's full, cross the street to the city garage where the first 75 minutes are free. No validation needed. We got there around 9am on a Sunday during a holiday weekend and were seated right away but we noticed a line started forming outside after that. From the extended wait time to take our order to the fact that he was gone for his break without telling us. We were looking forward to ordering some beignets for dessert but apparently he took his break without telling us. A different waitress noticed we had been there for awhile and decided to come by with the check. When we told her we wanted an order of beignets, she seemed confused and said we never ordered them to which I explained to her that we never got the chance because we hadn't seen our waiter in awhile. She said he was on break but that she would put the order in. The icing on the cake was the fact that they gave us our beignets to go. It was like they were rushing us out which felt kind of crappy given the fact that we were looking forward to the beignets the most. I ordered the tri-tip eggs Benedict which was ok but nothing to write home about. The wife ordered the chilaquiles which also merited the same review by her. The only highlights were the coffee guy and the beignets which ended up being pretty good but other than that, I think we will pass on it next time we're in town. read more

What happened to the quality of the Cajun? Very disappointing experience with our breakfast this morning.....The Chicken Fried steak was not up to par, and gravy was soooo thick (tasted of flour) it was gross......We'd asked for hashbrowns crispy on both sides, and they came very lightly browned on one side, and soggy/oily in the middle....ugh! Service and wait staff always polite, fast and friendly, but the food is lacking the quality we enjoyed in the 80's, 90's, and early 2000's! We sat at the counter and watched the cooks, they were very overworked and seemed stressed and understaffed, so that may have been the issue. Sad for SB's used to be best in town! :( read more

EPIC FAIL!! Arrived at 930am Saturday morning for breakfast. My mom and her friends placed their breakfast order. My mom asked for a piece of cornbread to arrive at the end of their meal to take home. She was told "we haven't baked any yet" IT WAS 2 1/2 HOURS AFTER THEY OPENED.
