Enjoyed visiting Moment's soft opening during the busy Fourth of July weekend, and I am so glad I stopped in. It was the morning, so I decided to try the grapefruit cold brew. My party also tried the lemonade and espresso drink. Both were enjoyable and well-made! The staff was warm and friendly and was eager to make adjustments in case we wanted our drinks modified, though we loved them as they were served. I am excited to have a small, locally-owned ice cream and coffee shop in the neighborhood, and I will certainly be back in the future. The space is also adorable, and the aesthetic is very clean! As someone who seeks non-dairy options, I hope to visit in the future and try some of the frozen treats. On that note, I would love to see non-dairy milk offered without substitution fees, as I know that is important to an increasing portion of customers. But I understand that is not always possible. Last, super excited for the later hours offered. So many of the ice cream stores close early in the neighborhood, so I am excited to see that Moment has better hours than many of those alternatives. read more

ok, i've been here two more times since opening, and i think my overall liking of this cafe has increased. first of all, the drinks here are quite good and worth it. i had the mango matcha cloud, which is one of the better matcha drinks ive had in philly. my boyfriend also had a latte (i believe with caramel?) and it was quite good as well. i would 100% come back for the drinks, and their matcha put me back on a matcha kick. the gelato here is... fine. they definitely had more flavors after the opening hype died down, but i wish there was some consistency in staples. i think they should have at least one matcha-related flavor available at any given time. they do have fun flavors, but the rotating flavors are unfortunately just not consistent. i came by after dinner for a sweet treat, and unfortunately none of the flavors were really speaking to me. i ended up getting the rice flavor, which albeit interesting, didn't really taste like rice lol. service is good, the workers were really sweet. i also like that they opened up a little seating area in the back, which makes it a good spot to catch up with a friend. overall, i would come back, but for their drinks more than the gelato. read more

Walked by Moment on the last day of their soft opening without knowing what they are. Ironically, my friend and I just had Malai a few minutes before that. We decided to queue up after seeing 1) Asian-inspired flavors, 2) soft opening discounts, 3) many young Asians queueing. The queueing etiquette was lacking. The front of the store has many seats basically in the shape of a square with bench seating against the wall surrounding the perimeter. People lined up directly from the counter to the door rather than wrapping around into the seating area which would mean more people can wait inside in the AC. Also some people waited in the middle of the door which means AC Is let out and hot air is let in. An employee had to call them out. Even if they're not serving gelato, isn't it common sense to keep the different temperatures separate. They didn't have a menu of flavors on their exterior window, interior walls, or even on the gelato fridge case. It was frustrating to not know what flavors are available, so we can choose in advance. Even if they're in their soft opening, I don't get why they can't post their menu/inventory updates on their instagram. Even if they can't give live updates or will constantly change the offerings, how hard is it to handwrite a sign to post on their front door/window. I'm sure gelato takes hours to make, so they know in advance what they are producing. At least they were patient with providing samples and would move on to the next customer as the current ones are tasting/deciding. Their display case doesn't have a door. It's covered with a piece of flexible plastic like what you might see at supermarkets. The staff open and close it so frequently I kind of wonder why they bother with it and whether the piece of plastic helps at all. Their gelato didn't look appetizing, because it was partially melted. Regardless if that is due to the weak AC, weak refrigeration, or hot air coming in, that's not acceptable. I saw that the display case was showing it as -2 to -1 degrees Celsius. I wasn't convinced. Luckily my friend and I didn't have any digestion issues afterwards, but I think this situation is a health hazard. By the time I got to the counter, half the flavors were sold out. The existing ones had no signs whatsoever, so it was partially a guessing game. We think the remaining flavors were: vanilla, pistachio, coconut, matcha strawberry, cantaloupe, something cherry, and hazelnut chocolate. I sampled: pistachio, coconut, matcha strawberry, and cantaloupe. Coconut was the worst because it tasted watery and "muddy" as if they blended in the husk. Cantaloupe also tasted watery. Therefore, my friend and I shared a split scoop of pistachio and matcha strawberry. I won't say they're necessarily yummy but slightly more interesting. The matcha strawberry tastes like it has oat milk which I can't confirm whether that's true. It's really just sunk cost for us to keep waiting and to order even after seeing the options. There weren't that many Asian-specific flavors anyway. I guess the only appeal was how the soft opening discount made it a good deal. Partially because I had ice cream already, but I feel like they can reduce their portion size and/or price. Or maybe it's just not yummy enough that I normally wouldn't want to finish a whole cup myself either. We didn't see lines at all the next day after the soft opening, so I guess everyone else was there for the discounts too. read more

We went during soft opening and there was a small line out the door. That being said, I feel like it moved pretty quickly given the number of people waiting and number of staff This could be because they were so busy, but all of the gelatos started melting as soon as they were scooped. This was the only negative because it made it hard to eat and enjoy. I got the cantaloupe flavor (vegan!) and it tasted like a melona bar. I was a big fan and appreciate the inclusivity with nondairy options. read more

Mango Matcha Cloud was absolutely amazing! The mango puree was so fresh and sweet, the matcha cloud foam was earthy, high quality and very creamy! They have other flavors like Coconut and Strawberry Matcha Cloud but I am pretty sure you cannot beat the mango flavor! They have enough seating for maybe 8-10 people but they seem to be super popular being in the middle of Rittenhouse - so it can get crowded quickly. read more

The ice cream competition on 100 block of S 18th street is heating up. Moment gelato is the third ice cream shop on this block. I follow them on instagram. They post the flavors there. On a rainy evening I managed to stop by. There are 8 flavors. I sampled all of them except coconut. I bought Dubai chocolate on a cone. The cone is interesting. It isn't regular waffle cone but not the flimsy sugar cone either. It is topped with thin wafer. The cone is pretty sturdy to hold the gelato. My Dubai chocolate isn't very sweet, the flavor is very weak. Faint chocolate flavor, I didn't taste the pistachio and the kanafe, which is the signature ingredients of Dubai chocolate. Matcha,and vegan chocolate have stronger flavors. The cookie caramel is decorated with Biscoff cookies but it's just for decoration. No Biscoff in it. The two ladies at the store are very nice and helpful. Next time I want to try the matcha latte and decaf coffee. read more

I was really excited to check out Moment Gelato, especially since their concept centers around Asian inspired gelato and coffee served alongside Italian classics such as stracciatella. They even had fun flavors such as blue marshmallow and tangy green apple that tasted like sour green apple jolly rancher. They even had a mango flavor that already sold out at 7pm! They told me they make their gelato fresh everyday so they would restock more mango flavor the next morning. It's always great to have a new dessert cafe pop up in the neighborhood! The staff here is wonderful and super kind. They offered me free samples while I was deciding. I ended up going with the double chocolate gelato and the texture was absolutely spot on. It was incredibly smooth, rich, and perfectly creamy. It would be the perfect pick for any chocolate lover! It wasn't too sweet and had a really strong chocolate flavor without being too bitter. While the quality of the gelato is great, I was a bit disappointed by the current flavor selection. I came specifically for the Asian inspired flavor profiles but only noticed that the passionfruit was the only one available. The staff mentioned that they change up their menu regularly, so I'm really hoping to see more unique Asian flavors added to the rotation soon! Beyond the gelato, they also offer a solid selection of coffee and matcha. The space itself is well lit and inviting. There is plenty of indoor seating and even WiFi. I can definitely see it being a cute study spot as they even have some outlets in the seating area. read more

We stopped by here after dinner and we were happy we did. This place is pretty new and ladies working there were really sweet and kind. My daughter and I shared the blueberry gelato. It was so refreshing and delicious. Made us think of our time in Maine. A couple gelato flavors were sold out so we want to come back another time to try some other flavors as well as their latte (couldn't drink caffeine in the evening but I was tempted!). We really enjoyed the gelato from Moment. My fiancé got the hazelnut and said it was great. I was in the mood for something refreshing so I got the vegan orange, and it did not disappoint! We both finished all of our bowls and were talking about having to come back another day even before leaving. The service was excellent as well. We were greeted when we entered and offered to try anything we'd like. Definitely try a sample if you're unsure, but you won't be disappointed. Had a great first time at Moment. We were there for the gelato, so I can't speak on the drinks, although they looked good. I tried the Greek yogurt with passion fruit and matcha flavors. The matcha flavor wasn't too sweet and had a strong tea flavor so I really liked it, but I decided to go with Greek yogurt with passion fruit because I don't see that as often. The flavor was sweet, a little tart, and the passion fruit came through very well; not sure if this is a seasonal flavor. There's a little seating area in the back too. DELISH! BUSY! ITS NEW! Walking up it is a very clean modern inviting little gelato shop. I was excited to see that it is open somewhat late which is a bonus in my opinion for a dessert shop. The staff was friendly and helpful, even with a busy line. They have a lot of great looking flavors that rotate regularly. I got the cantaloupe, and it was way better than I could imagine! my friend & i stopped by moment a little bit ago for their soft opening - such a cute storefront! inside there were some tables in the back & some seats in the front of the store. the staff is friendly and they let you try the flavors which is nice & i believe they try to replenish the gelato selection as well, but it must have been very busy earlier in the day because of the limited selection by the time we went. we got cantaloupe & strawberry matcha gelato, i liked the crispy wafer on top! the gelato was fine, on the bitter end for matcha but i appreciated the depth of matcha flavor :) it was also on the icier end, & i wish it were more creamy. i would be interested in coming back to try their matcha lattes! read more

A great place to study and to grab a treat! In general, I avoid matchas with coconut milk because it overpowers the matcha. I tried the strawberry matcha with extra matcha and enjoyed it! The puree was fresh and the matcha was slightly bitter and had good flavor. It won't be comparable to matcha in NYC or LA, but it's a good option for matcha lovers in Philly! I also tried the guava cold brew since I wanted a lighter drink and it had popping candy in it which was a surprise. It wasn't as sweet as I expected and was a bit bitter from the coffee, but refreshing for the summer! I got a sample of the guava gelato and it was light and delicious, I would definitely get it next time.
