I'm not a cake fan, let me begin by saying this... -1 star for their address being wrong. I had to call and get directions when I drive ask the way up 281 looking for their bakery. They should fix this if they'd like more business. I came in in to buy six cupcakes for my future mother in laws birthday. Reasonably priced 6 for 15$. Looking at the cupcakes they're pretty to the eye which is nice. No one likes an ugly cupcake. I picked out 6... Tiramasu, snickers, smores, red velvet, chocolate with a strawberry and chocolate icing, and a vanilla with chocolate and strawberry icing. The lady behind the counter then first grabs the snickers off the display and then tells me they're out... wait what? I'm staring at 4 snickers cupcakes. But okay. I opted out for the nutella. I'm not a pastry foodie but I know what I like. Their specialty cupcakes are great! My kids love the snickers and Oreo cupcakes. I love the s'mores or the chocolate chocolate cupcake. This was such a cute place! Everything was so colorful and neatly displayed . I went to try their Macarons and to me they were delicious but they had more of a meringue texture than ground almonds. The flavor really popped though and was fantastic! The white ones were my fav but all of them were tasty! The thing worth going for are their cupcakes! OMG their buttercream icing is sinful!! I went in and asked for a cake for my friend's birthday that would be coming up in a few days. The lady was super rude and flat out denied to help me and said she needed minimum a weeks notice and refused to take my order. She said all they could do was offer me a cake that was in the glass today and it would just have to be old by the time her birthday gets here. Terrible customer service. The Cake that I ordered for my mother's birthday was quite lovely...but, the taste was marginal, at best. It was too dry and the frosting was truly inedible. I originally asked for fondant icing, but the gal who took the order suggested an icing that could be smoothed to look like fondant. I chose that. While it did achieve the look of fondant, the taste was just not great...it was more like a candy, than a frosting. I doubt that i'll be ordering from them again. read more

I ordered a cake for my husband's 30th Surprise Birthday. I had them make a fitness themed cusom cake designed to look like a photo I provided. I ordered in Feb and come the day of the party in May I was shocked with how acurate the cake came out. Additionally, the cake was DELICIOUS. I had two separate flavors made - german chocolate and vanilla with mint filling. Sometimes when baked goods are so pretty and well designed they don't taste good. NOT THE CASE! People were shocked with how cool the design came out and how delciious it was. I had more than 12 people ask where it was made. Absolutely amazing! I had a very specific cake that I wanted made for my sons birthday. I took a picture and spoke with them and they were excited to recreate it for us. They gave me a few suggestions for flavor and fillings as well. When we picked it up I was completely blown away. Our cake was beautiful and exactly what I had envisioned! They added the extras I brought in as well. The cake not only looked beautiful but tastes even better. It was moist, sweet and delicious. They enthusiastically said yes and the cakeprice was 200 usd. The day came and when we got the cake we were devastated. Superwhy looked like he just got into an accident and got his head smashed and his eyes popped out.I called in after my husband sent me the picture of the cake. They asked us to bring it back so they could fix the problem. When my husband went back they said they couldn't do anything about it since it's not their "piece". Its not their design and they are not pastry chefs. I was horrified by this reply. Only thing they can do is to remove the post - crashed superwhy aircraft on top and refund us with 35 bucks. Why would they take a job if they couldn't do it? Nobody's expecting an exact replica of the cake, but at least make it a bit more like it. The picture says it all. No attention was given to details, Superwhy's smile was crooked, the fondant linings were thinning towards its end, it was obvious that they were in a hurry in making this. Best part is, the guy my husband was talking to was saying that he hopes this wouldnt result in bashing their store and bad reviews! Money spent on buying that cake wasnt easy. And we resorted to fixing the topper for the cake on our own! WE Haven't heard anything from the store yet, I dont recommend going to this cake shop and were not certainly gonna go back EVER!!!! horrible job and wrong choice of words to use on unsatisfied customers!!! read more

I am currently planning my wedding which is in November 2015. I found Cake Art through a Google search. I loved their website and photos of previous work. I emailed the company and set up a tasting with the owner of the shop. I arrived a few minutes before my set appointment and went to the counter. The girl had no idea there were any appointments and had no clue who I was. She then said "Oh well, they lose paperwork all the time". Not exactly the most reassuring thing a bride wants to hear. They then asked me to pick 4 cupcakes from the display case. I assumed it was to try the flavors. Their brochures mentioned a private tasting room but instead I sat in the lobby next to some brat crying for a cupcake. The owner showed up with the 4 cupcakes and the smears of filling. Each cupcake was piled a mile high with icing so it was very difficult to taste how the cake would go with the fillings. To make matters worse, the cupcakes were so dry they had to have been at least 2 days old. After we sampled the terrible cakes, the owner came back to talk about designs. I showed her 2 different photos: my favorite was a very art deco design and one much simpler. She completely passed over the intricate one and only wanted to do the simple one. I even mentioned that I did not like any of the flavors we tasted and she never offered any other sample. I instead was forced to just choose one. She wrote up a rough quote and said she would email it to me. She couldn't give me a time frame for the email because "she wasn't very good with computers". A month later, no email has arrived. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else! read more

The cupcakes I had here were mixed quality - the icing on the vanilla one didn't have much flavor. Just tasted kinda like shortening. The chocolate one was good! I was shocked to find a wall of resistance to creative consulting at a business with the word "art" in their name. The counter person Dina (sp?) was horrible but i figured she was having a bad day, was a disgruntled employee etc and I would just talk to the owner later. Monique, the co-owner, was much worse. She acted completely annoyed that I needed input from a designer. I did not know exactly what I wanted for a 1 year old bday cake. I had a theme. I provided photos. I wrote an elaborate email with ideas. I mainly needed guidance on the colors. Monique was not amused. She obviously never read the emails. The final product was not what we discussed on the phone. It was not my vision. There were some minor details that were completely wrong, but at this point, i just wanted my cake. One other note: On the first day I went into Cake Art and my order was already up to $150, the counter person would not let me sample a french macaron!! She said i had to buy a half dozen if I wanted to taste one before adding to my order. I ended up ordering 2 dozen, blind, along with 1 dozen custom designed cookies for party favors (which were hard as rocks, almost inedible). I think because i had such an excellent experience ordering the invitations, at Invitations Etc, with a girl who helped me choose colors, font, text , I thought i would find the same enthusiasm and interest with the cake artist. Not so. In the end, the cake was very appropriate and sweet for a 1 year old girl bday party. The icing was ultra rich butter cream overkill, but the cake moist and flavorful. The shop is beautiful, their work is good. The french macarons are to die for. But their customer service skills are atrocious. Incredibly rude unhappy people. The chef was nice and helpful and reasonable. He tried to intercede during both of my encounters with the counter person and the owner. I cannot say enough great things about Cake Art! I brought in a photo of a very decorative cake that I wanted for my daughters baby shower on 3/26/17. I was a bit nervous about what it would actually look like when I came to pick it up, but was SOOOO happy with the result! Not only did it look like the photo, but it tasted beyond amazing! The cake was the centerpiece of the party and everyone was commenting on not only how beautiful the cake was but how amazing it tasted! FYI the almond cake with the strawberry filling is to die for!!! After going to McAllisters a couple million times and wondering about this shop, I finally went in. I have to say that I was impressed this the selection of flavors. My favorite was the peanut butter bacon. My favorite part past the flavor was the icing. So many places just get the icing of a cupcake so wrong. It's too much or too little, too sweet or too soft. Their butter cream icing was a good balance of base and sugar. Just enough to hold the icing at room temperature and not cause someone to reach for milk. This review is based on the over and above effort made by this shop. My sister ordered her grandson a "very specific" Harry Potter cake for his Quiddich BDay party. When she received the picture of the cake, she was confused as it was not the one she ordered. After a quick phone call, she discovered she had given them the wrong date! When the Mom arrived to get the cake, these people scrambled and came in on a Sunday, when they were closed, to make another different but beautiful cake and cupcakes for the party! I've only purchased the French macaroons from them, and they were hands down the worst I and three of my friends have ever had. They crumbled to pieces when you pick them up, mostly air in the cookie part and the flavore was missing. It was all sugar and no distinct flavore. I walked in expecting greatness I guess. I'm sure they are wonderful in the custom cake business, but I just went in for a cupcake. I was little disappointed. The cupcakes were a little small, and they charged $2.50 per cupcake. They have very interesting flavors which was neat. I had a strawberry margarita something cupcake. It was okay, but I probably could've gotten my cupcake fix with a Target cupcake. Same size, but maybe 3 or 4 for the same price. The cake was a little dry, but the icing was delicious. I am new to SA and I love a good bakery. I googled cupcakes near me and cake art came up. I took my three children and we ordered 6 cupcakes and a lemon square. The lemon square was very sweet and tasted like the refrigerator, I was not impressed. The cupcakes were okay, nothing to rave about, and they were DRY, even the chocolate one. Ever since watching competition cupcake/cake shows on TV, I have made it my mission to eat my way through cupcakes. I have tried the famous Sprinkles to even a cupcake wars winner. I saw Cake Art when looking for a lunch spot. I knew I had to try Cake Art. I walked in and the delicious sweet smell filled the room and my senses. I originally wanted a lemon cupcake and a alcohol infused chocolate cupcake. They didn't have the chocolate one. When a few of my back up choices were all gone too, I chose a gingerbread cupcake with a buttercream frosting and the lemon. I just ate the gingerbread (a day after buying it) and OMG, it was the best cupcake I ate even over the winner of cupcake wars. The gingerbread was just right. It wasn't too over powering and the buttercream was smooth, silky and just right. The cream didn't get hard after a day and wasn't too sweet. The cake again after a day was still moist and not dense at all. I really want the lemon one right now, but must save for later, but I am sure it will be amazing too. Since this bakery has opened I have had the pleasure of visiting it several times. Each time I try something different and I have to say my favorite thus far has been the carrot cupcakes. They are super moist with just the right amount of frosting. While there I have seen some of the cakes being worked on for parties or weddings and they look AMAZING!!!!!!! Ok...here is my review. Found this place by Google search. The staff was very friendly and professional. They made a very beautiful cake made it exactly the way we wanted it; the only disapontment we had was the TASTE.We were told that everything on the bread was made from scratch as it well should be for a $300 dollar cake. My mother- in-law who is a professional baker said the chocolate flavored bread tasted like it was made from an HEB box instant cake mix and everyone at the party said the same thing, she was out of town prior to son's b-day otherwise would of had her bake it. So I suppose we actually paid for ART not taste, so will probably not return. read more
