The best neighborhood find. Cute 50s decor with only two tables but the minute you walk in you feel right at home because Yvette and Alejandro treat you like family. I had a cheeseburger with grilled onions and it came out on a brioche bun. The onions were perfectly grilled, and the burger was crispy on the outside and cooked perfectly on the inside. You are also crazy if you don't order the homemade limeade, which was absolutely delicious. The prices are as good as the food if anyone is anywhere near this neighborhood this is a must. read more

I've wanted to try this place out for a while and I'm glad I finally got the chance. This place is visually stimulating as there are so many cool items to draw your attention. The place has a cozy vibe and feels truly welcoming. I ordered the plain cheeseburger, with sweet potato fries and the limeade. The food came out pretty quickly. The burger was delicious and flavorful. I absolutely loved the sweet potato fries! The limeade reminded me of the natural juice I would drink at home, sweet and tart. The best part about my dining experience was getting the pleasure of meeting the owner Yvette. Yvette is a true character, who has lived in the neighborhood for many years and knows her stuff. She's clearly passionate about the food and the community. She was able to give me great advice and information about work related issues. The staff was so friendly and really made you feel like you were part of a community. They even went as far as to help me get a ride to the airport since I was visiting from out of town. Talk about above and beyond! Also the ambiance was almost like a cute little sitcom. The inside of the store has a very inviting atmosphere with its retro 50's style dining decor. Cake Burgers is THE go-to hole-in-the-wall restaurant in East Harlem. Its 1950s retro diner aesthetic will lure everyone in, but the food and owners are what keep people as permanent customers. The chef/owner is a former chef of a Michelin star restaurant who left to pursue his own restaurant in East Harlem. For basically chump change, you too can afford your own Michelin quality burger. My default is a Hass burger - a burger with avocado and Oaxaca cheese! With COVID going on, we have to wait outside of the restaurant while waiting for our food. When my husband, friend, and I ordered our food, we waited about 15 minutes. This alone is speedy enough, but time seemed to flow so quickly especially with the chef's wife/owner regaling us with various anecdotes, keeping us company while waiting in the harsh cold. While recanting her stories, her husband sneakily gave us some hot chocolate to help keep us warm as well. To the more delicious part of the story, I finally got to dive into my Hass burger! Its creamy avocado pairs so well with the umami-packed burger (my own preference is cooked medium-rare)! The staff of Cake Burgers also use a spicy sauce to balance out the creaminess, cheesy, and savory flavors of the Hass burger. I'm a huge fan of Oaxaca cheese, and because it's a lighter cheese relative to other cheeses, it augmented the more refreshing feel to a burger. Unlike your normal burger, the Hass burger won't leave you feeling groggy or suffering from the post-meal meat sweats! Overall, I love coming to Cake Burgers for a nice and quick treat. Even with delivery, they have juicy patties topped with tangy, balanced sauce and grilled onions, my favorite. grilling onions takes forever, which is why Shake shack did them that one year called the roadside burger, but then opted to stop because it took too much time. What a cute lil shop. They specialize in making unique cakes, hence the lil sliders that I brought home to my kids, they loved it. I also picked up some cannoli to go, they were good as well. She also makes pies, cakes, etc. I just want to get to the food part of the place. So the shop looks like a little diner. It's not, but that's the theme the owners went with. The chef is great. He had on his menus for now, (because they have been open for about a week or two) burgers, fries, and breakfast treats. I loved the burger I received because it was cooked the way I liked and although not on the menu my friend ordered herself a burger without bread making it into a keto friendly burger, and we both thought it was all fresh and delicious. The chef gave us some free samples of his delicious homemade hot chocolate. I told him to put that on the menu. My cheese fries were good as well, but I think it needs just a bit more cheese. Anyway if you want to have your cake and eat too, lol, meaning if you want a good meal with some dessert too, make a visit here. They are pleasant people and know who their locals are already. Prices are right and they still have more things they are working on as far as their menu selection.
