We ordered a small cake and about 4 doz cupcakes for our handfasting.. the delivered results looked kinda thrown together and they used edible paper instead of doing stencil work, or making the part out of fondant as discussed. Who wants edible paper as the main decoration on their cake? Even with pictures as references and discussions as what we did and didn't want, they went with the 'didn't want option' Not only was decoration sub par, so was the cake itself. Cake and cupcakes were mostly dry. Lots of the frosting was grainy. The main cake was ordered to be the lemon filling was fresh and tart when we went for the tasting, but tasted like lemon jello pudding in the end product. The knot work was asked to be part of the frosting (see the picture) either ask piping, fondant, or painted on...but not edible paper?!? It wasn't even applied well. You can see the gaps of where the paper isn't touching but also see the frosting used to attach it is also visible. The ivy is lacking details and also rough cut and you can see the rough edges. The Korik masks were supposed to fondant so they could be picked up and be just the masks...not printed on a disk of edible paper. The mushrooms were supposed to be on 'moss' (like colored shredded coconut) but was just green frosting...exactly what we said we didn't want. The gnomes hats didn't match colors, and their face, nose and beards were all the same white...grainy frosting and missing the decoration in their beards...and the beards were messy also. 1 out of 10. If I could give more stars I would. We had our cake baker become flakey for our wedding. She got us in the next day. Our wedding was 2 months out. Her professionalism at the tasting was so nice. She was prepared and everything was clear. We walked out fully booked knowing down to when our cake would arrive at the venue. And the cake itself was unique and exactly what we were asking for! The flavors were amazing and guests still are raving to us 2 weeks later how good it was. And even with the humidity and heat the cake held up till cutting. Thank you! read more

I am writing this review as a cautionary tale, the owner, Cynthia, is very good at hooking you in, however when communicating and working with her after paying the deposit was very disappointing. My wife and I had a cake from here made for our wedding which was in May. When we first went in December to get an estimate Cynthia was very kind and printed out pictures of our inspiration and drew concept art and reassured us that visually the cake would look very similar to what we wanted. (Refer to pictures for expectation vs reality) We also got to try a whole variety of flavors and she gave us a lot of recommendations and advice and laid out costs very clearly. All of this sounds exactly what you would want from a bakery and it was! We had confidence in our baker that she would deliver an amazing cake that was moss/woods themed. We did want slight alterations such as a naked cake, but nonetheless she said it was all possible. When our wedding day came and all the pieces started falling into place one of the hiccups (a big hiccup) was that Cynthia arrived two hours later than she promised to be, according to our coordinator. She has stated to arrive at 2:30, but instead arrived at 4:30 and our ceremony started at 5. A few heart attacks on your wedding is normal, but it was quickly relieved when we were told she had delivered the cake. However, when we finally saw the cake and went to cut it, we were terribly disappointed as the cake looked nothing like what we expected. The flowers we had asked for (we wanted decorative, not frosting flowers) still had tags on them, the frosting was bubbly and looked nothing like moss, it was also in excess and dripped almost around the entire cake, the water coloring we had asked for was barely present too. The decorating seemed rushed as evident by the tags in the flowers and the late arrival which means they did not give our cake as much time and attention to make sure everything was right. However, the cake tasted amazing, but visually it was a far cry from what we thought and were lead to believe we would get. Perhaps the design was too complicated, but at that point the business needs to know what they can and can't do and their artistic limits and level with the customer. On top of this we had to drop off the cake stand some time afterwards and went to do it on a Saturday. Cynthia had told us to meet her at the store at 11am so we could hand it off, but the store was closed and no one was inside. When calling to find out where she was, she seemed to have just woken up by the sound of her voice. She directed us to give the stand to the salon next door, which to me was extremely disrespectful. She didn't respect our time to even meet us at her store for her property and I was hoping to talk to her about the cake personally and this was the last straw. I apologize for this lengthy review, however I feel our testimony is important to warn others about her customer service. She makes great tasting cakes and will deliver, but you may not be entirely satisfied with the customer service. read more

My wedding was April 15th 2011. Cynthia was the third person I met with during my cake testing process. She made the cake testing (which was amazingly yummy) easy and the cake design portion was fun! She actually took the time to draw out what I was describing to her (with colored pencils- super cute) so that I could see what we were creating. She was the only person that did this for me! My cake was sooooo beautiful! and of course the flavors were out of this world. I was most nervous about the grooms cake. My husband is a musician and I wanted a replica of his Gibson guitar. She brought that dream to life! The guitar looked SO life like and it turned out to be my FAVORITE flavor of all of them (chocolate of course-w/ a chocolate mousse!) I was unfortunately very disappointed with the service I received from this bakery as well as the wedding cake we ordered. We requested a 3 tier cake with piped roses. The piping on the cake we received looked unprofessional and was frankly ugly. The frosting on the cake we ordered was cream cheese, and we received what appeared like and tasted like marshmallow fluff. This wasn't exactly complementary with our red velvet cake flavor. Finally, we were very excited to box the top tier of our wedding cake. Cynthia assured me she would be providing boxes that fit the cake tiers. The boxes she provided did not fit the cake and it was cut into many smaller pieces to be packed up. The top tier was wrapped in plastic wrap as we couldn't use the provided box. My communications with Cynthia and her team were unpleasant aside from our very first tasting with her. Her team was rarely able to answer my questions and Cynthia was very short with me when I asked questions leading up to our wedding date. She made me feel like the questions and concerns I had were stupid when in reality everything that I was worried about going wrong with this cake went wrong. read more

So I've been debating between posting this review or not, mainly because Cynthia is a very nice person and I am sure she has done a great job on many cakes. However, this post is mainly concerning those who have dietary needs. My fiancé and I are both vegan. We scheduled a tasting appointment two weeks in advance to try a vegan vanilla cake. When we showed up for our appointment, there was no cake to taste, however Cynthia had showed us she recently got a vegan cookbook and would be experimenting with some recipes. We went through and designed the cake, were told we were her first vegan clients and she was excited to start offering vegan options... however asked us if we could come back a few weeks later to try the vegan cake. Because she was so friendly, we decided we would come back, only it had to be on a weeknight which was really inconvenient for us because of our job schedule, but we made it work. So fast forward to the day of our [second] tasting. We show up, and she asks me if I brought the contract (that I thought she would have had a copy of, seeming that it is HER contract) and I said I forgot it amongst the rest of the day's chaos. She then begins to tell me that yesterday's customers were vegans and wanted to try a banana cake and a carrot cake, so we got to try yesterday's leftover vegan cake. No vanilla cake, for the second time. But she said, NEXT TIME she will work to make a vegan vanilla cake. I am sorry, Cynthia. Though you are very friendly and personable, and I am sure you are very skilled baker when it comes to generic cakes, you cannot possibly expect me to come back a third time. I do not have the time to waste when there are dozens of other bakers in San Antonio willing to accommodate our dietary needs and have the cake ready when it's supposed to be. So I am very irritated: 1. My vegan vanilla cake that I've been requesting for over 6 weeks has yet to make an appearance. 2. The cake I was given was a day-old and made for ANOTHER client. 3. How is it that I am responsible for YOUR contract. Why not make a copy? 4. My time has been wasted, two times. I am sorry Cynthia, you are very friendly, however this is the world of business. And you just lost mine. I just wanted to post this review for other fellow vegans out there. We are people too, and if you cannot make a cake that suits our dietary needs, then please just say no and not waste our time because you can't keep your orders organized. read more

My review is a little late but because our wedding was in 2011 but I still brag about how incredible our wedding cake was to this day. My mother still talks about it fondly and photos of the cake have been "repinned" on pinterest hundreds of times. I would not consider any other bakery in San Antonio. Since our wedding I have used any excuse to use Cynthia again. Birthdays, parties at our house, etc. Absolutely outstanding. I cannot sing her praises enough. We had Cynthia do our cakes for our wedding and they turned out spectacular. We had a 4-tiered cake for wedding cake and a firetruck for the groom's cake. We were a little nervous how the grooms cake would turn out since it is a motor vehicle and needs to be made to look similar to the Fort Worth Fire Engine, but we were more than pleased. Cynthia even put lights in the cake for the headlights of the truck as a special touch. The cake was really moist and everyone loved all the different flavors. When we were there in her cake shop with her, she was very attentive and friendly and walked us through the whole process. We were very happy with our service and the cakes that we received. Save your time and money!! If you hire Cynthia Gallagher, you may end up getting stood up, like my fiance and I did! We drove in from out of town to meet Cynthia, with Cakes and More, for a second cake tasting. The shop was closed!!! No one answered the door and when I called her I got her voicemail. We waited 15 mins. before leaving. Cynthia didn't call us back until 30 mins. later saying she had another cake delivery and thought she'd make it back in time to meet us. Obviously, she was WRONG. Then, she goes on to say no one was at the shop to meet us for our appointment because she also forgot the cake server for the cake she was delivering. She didn't apologize, nor did she offer any way to remedy the situation. All she did was keep giving us excuses and asking us to turn around and go back to the shop, even though she knew we had a wedding shower that same day. Also, during our first cakeb tasting, Cynthia had a limited number of cake/frosting combinations for us to try--hence the second tasting...plus, she wasn't even sure which flavors we were tasting. Now, we have to start our search all over again and our wedding is in a few months. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL, INCONSIDERATE and UNRELIABLE!!! read more

Cynthia recently made the cake for our daughter's wedding. It was absolutely gorgeous! And so delicious! Some of our guests told us they never eat wedding cake because it's usually dry and flavorless but they heard the other guests talking about our cake and decided to try it. They were not disappointed! We chose the almond cake with strawberry filling for the top tier and Boston cream filling for the other layers. Delicious, moist and full of flavor. From the minute we first met Cynthia and did the tasting, we knew Cakes and More would make the most special cake for our daughter's wedding.
