I haven't been here much but what I do appreciate is that their bowling pins aren't on strings as it seems some bowling alley's have transitioned to which is horrible. I hear many people in leagues have said their handicap has dropped. I'm not a great bowler but can see the difference in my game comparing it to bowling with string pins versus no string. I did better with no strings. Maybe it's psychological or just need to get use to it but when I see the strings I'm thinking, can you put the bumpers up too! Lol ‍‍ read more

He came here recently for a bowling tournament. Everyone was very friendly. The staff were very helpful. The bowling alley has pretty strict rules about any outside food. From my experience, you are able to purchase food at the bowling alley and it will be brought to you. Periodically, someone will come by to check and see how you're doing. They also will remove your dirty food tray whenever you are ready. The bowling alley is a fun family space. However, during tournaments, it can be a tricky place to navigate. Kids definitely should not be wandering around the bowling alley lanes if they are not bowling. Please keep your children close. I have seen so many accidents happen at bowling alleys because kids are not inappropriate spaces. I have only been here to bold during tournaments. I am not familiar with what it is like outside of that. Parking is available in the shopping center lot. There are plenty of spaces, but I will tell you, when there's a tournament, you better get there early to get a good spot. I really like the way that the tournament was run. Everything was very clear and well explained. Hopefully, I will see everyone there again next time. read more

Cal bowl lanes 03 22.2025 Had reservations at 6:30pm for a party of 15, for my wife's 50th Birthday. Online booking was very easy. Arrived 15 mins early prior to my official reservation time, since it was recommended to do so because of the wait time to get shoes. ID and credit card reservation was strict at the front counter, which I did not mind at all. They are actually doing me a favor by ensuring that someone is not performing fraudulent charges. We had lanes 14,15,16 for almost 2hrs. We all had a great time. We encountered a few minor hiccups on lane 14. Misfed pins and loose pins on the side. Lane 15 bumper support went up and would not go down. Notified the front desk. They were compliant but had to wait 5-7 mins to get the issues resolved. It's a bummer we were not getting compensated for the time loss. Regardless, we still had a great time! Went to the snack bar and ordered x 2 large pepperoni pizzas, chicken nuggets and 2 pitchers of fountain sodas. Process is to order first at the snack bar and pick it up at the pizza place outside of the venue. Was a weird set up but still worked. Also ordered 2 pitchers of beer along with assorted cocktails. We all had a very good time. We laughed and we cheered. No complaints at the front desk staff. They were terrific. The snack bar workers can be alittle nicer. They need to work on customer service. I also do not agree with the paying system that is being presented. A Tip option for what? Ordering your food?. This option should be removed from this venue. The pitchers I ordered beer from the bar... they did a fantastic job. The bartender was very nice! Got good vibes from her. I gave her a good tip just for the nice vibes. Overall I recommend this place. It gets packed on Friday and Saturday. There is plenty of parking. A few sketchy patrons at the time of our experience. As long as you keep it cool and mind your own business, I guarantee you will have a good time. I would come back. read more

I don't bowl, so I'm not an expert on alleys here, but I came the other night and had a good time. There were just two of us, and we were able to fit in 3 games in the (almost) two hours we were scheduled. When I first arrived, I was wondering why they were squishing everyone to the two ends, but I guess that's normal, because the leagues play in the middle. It all filled in about an hour after we arrived. The only thing that I thought was odd was the guy who kept walking back and forth in front of us with his maintenance cart. It wasn't the biggest deal, but that's never happened to me before, and it happened like 5+ times while we were playing. We booked Cal Bowl for our staff holiday party. Great place to take your team and bond over hot wings, french fries, zucchini sticks, and adult beverages. We bowled for two hours and it was a lot of fun. They have a full bar and an extensive menu. The lanes were clean and operational. I will definitely come back with a group of friends. Parking was a little tight because it's in a shopping center with competing businesses. There might have been more parking in the rear but I didn't verify. The bathrooms are clean. We came on a Wednesday and I did notice a lot senior citizens. I don't know which age groups frequent Cal Bowl. Maybe the younger crowd comes at night. Who knows. So I'm getting back into bowling again now that I'm getting a lil older and it's a fun sport for all ages that can be played indoors when it's cold or raining. I live not too far from this alley so I figured I'd give this place a try first before venturing out. Well we were very disappointed. First of all the lane kept glitching and not reading pins etc. then there's no table to sit at while you're bowling. There's a table but no chairs around it. Then the part I really didn't like was the fact that you can't pay and play by the game. It has to be reserved by the hour ?!?! Uhhh so you have to rush through your games and if the times up in the middle of your game then well you're screwed. I remember the old days when you just paid for a couple games and have fun and maybe get a couple beers and snacks and have a good time. Not here, get ready to spend a lot of money for just an hour of bowling and if you have a party of four or more that's like one game. Won't be coming here anymore. Fountain Bowl does it by the game like it should be done. I understand if you're doing the whole cosmic bowling or something at night on the weekends but in the middle of the week in the daytime I'm not paying for an hour and rushing through my games. read more

Just had my daughters 7th bday party here with 10 of her friends plus parents. We got two lanes for two hours for cosmic bowling which included pizza, soda, glow sticks, shoe rentals, and 30 min of arcade time. The kids had a blast and the parents did as well. There was counter with plenty of seating for everyone. The staff was really nice and came with a smile every time they had to clear the stuck balls, which was a lot. The arcade had quite a bit of options with ticket-winning games and prizes. I would def come here again. read more

this place is the worst !! I waited about 2 hours to get in a lane, even though we had a reservation. The food had hair in it. they didn't even care when I mentioned it. They just brushed it off. The pizza was so nasty. When my 5 month old was crying, they complained about it and said to shut up your baby. Then to top it off they closed down our lane. Which was confusing and when we asked why and for a refund. They screamed at us no and we tried to reason with them but they kicked us out. I think it was because of our skin tone. The rating is mainly based upon price. The service and facility was top notch. I am from out of town (SF Bay Area) and brought my bowling equipment with me to practice for a tournament I have coming up in Reno. I'm here for almost a week. I figured, I'd have a leisure practice on the days my sister was at work. Walking in, the bowling alley is beautiful. Nice cafe, pro shop, front office and desk. I go to the front desk and they ask, how long I would like to bowl. Didn't realized it was timed... I say, "30 minutes." He replies, "$17.50". Whoa! That is expensive! I would have paid that for 2 games at my own pace, but for 30 minutes? I figured since I was already there, I would bowl. The facility was really nice. Everything was well kept and pretty new. The ball return was quick. I did have some pin setting issues on my lane. The 10 wasn't being dropped. Update: I just found a thumb size gash on my ball. So upsetting. read more

Came here last sunday for a last minute birthday gathering for 15. We were luckily able to set a reservation for 2 lanes only a couple hours before. We needed one more lane though and they were able to add on for us no problem! The alley was pretty packed for a Sunday. And we had trouble finding different ball sizes for our group (just had a lot of 12s and 14s). The service to get drinks was also slower than ideal. I enjoy bowling and have recently moved to this area. I was a regular at another spot and decided to check out Cal-Bowl. They have a lot of lanes which is good, but are way over priced. $60 dollars for an hour or $80 for an hour and a half is ridiculous and not to mention at least 2 or 3 times a game I have to reset the lanes because the pins fall down when being placed. This is not luxury bowling, I will drive farther to bowl for less. read more

I would rate zero stars if possible. While there were a lot of lanes, all of them would make it hard to use the approach as they would make our feet stick while sliding. There were even some lanes with boards starting to lift up and others that were warped. When we asked to move lanes because of the approach, the staff did not seem to know or care what we were talking about. We checked our shoes and they were not a problem. However, this was repeated several times and we had to move lanes. After the third time moving, we asked to just end our session early and get a refund since we were not really able to bowl. Somehow this prompted a response with attitude which said "We can't issue refunds. And ArE YoU SuRe It'S NoT YoUr ShOeS?" In all, the lanes are not worth the price and they are completely unkept. I haven't been here so long. I did the glow in the dark bowling. I wish the shoes lit up and the balls lit up to make it more glow in the dark vibes. Let me tell you something, probably has gotten expensive. I went with a party of nine, got two lanes, for one hour, it was $184. The riders are $50, fries or $50, pitchers of soda are $7. The bowling lane that i got assigned to keep breaking down after Couple complaints i got moved to another. And even thou i had a different lane it was still breaking down on us. We recently came here to celebrate my friend's birthday. This bowling alley is quite large with plenty of regular and cosmic bowling lanes. We were able to get 2 hours of bowling with shoe rental for $20 per person. Our group of 12 had a blast. There are also pool tables and arcade games. There are plenty of food and drink options to choose from. We had pizza, corn dogs, mozzarella sticks, and fries. My friends drank some cider while I stuck to my water. Also, I of course forgot my socks and luckily they have a vending machine right next to the counter that sells socks for $4. There is plenty of free parking in the shopping center so no need to worry. If you are in the Lakewood/LongBeach area this is a great place to hangout! read more

This place is huge! So many lanes I don't imagine it's ever an issue to play. 300 Club for drinks and Touch Tunes music. Pro Shop was very helpful with a good selection of product to choose from. Their turnaround time on drilling and polishing, etc is inspiring! Leonard the GM was knowledgeable of the different leagues and recommended the good ones for beginners. Looking forward to spending more time here! Only thing I wish were different was the final score board would show before having to move forward to play the next game. This place was not clean. The house balls have gouges and dents. When you roll the bowling ball down the lane, it hops due to the poor condition of the ball. For being one of the only bowling alleys in the area, it could provide a much better experience. read more

If I was able to give this place zero stars I would. The lanes and approach are horrible, sticky, and run down. Some lanes had boards coming up and looks like it's been nailed back down. Customer service is horrible. We asked to get a refund bc of the lane and approach conditions, they had no idea what we were talking about and refused to give us a refund after 10 mins of bowling. They also pushed us around to different lanes, all with the same conditions, and told us to check our shoes instead of taking in feedback. Overall, never going back there. read more

I've been to Cal Bowl on three different occasions and have noticed shortcomings on all three of my visits. Not to take anything away from the entertainment factor of Cal Bowl because I've enjoyed my visits there overall (and others have as well), but I wanted to mention some flaws good and bad that you will likely run into if you choose to bowl here. The good flaws: 1) It is possible to throw a gutter ball and knock down pins at the same time. Once, I hit seven pins after the ball bounced out of the gutter. Another time, I saw a bowler in the next lane over get a spare after the ball had entered and exited the gutter. She didn't even see it! She walked away thinking no pins were hit. 2) A couple occasions on my first visit, I knocked down 9 pins on a frame, and then while the knocked down pins were being removed from the lane, the 10th pin somehow gets knocked down during the carry up and carry down. "What the...okay...now how am I supposed to convert THAT?!?!?" I thought to myself. Trying to convert a spare with no pins to hit, all I could do was a flair for the dramatic: rolling the ball backwards between my legs into the gutter. Still, I got a spare...somewhat undeservingly, but hey I'll take it! The bad flaws: 1) After the first throw, the rake arm comes down to sweep away the pins that were knocked down. However, on a few occasions, the arm will stay down until you hit the reset button, which would reset the original 10 pins back to their original positions before your second throw. If you knocked down at least one pin on the first throw, this could cause problems in determining your score for the frame. This leads to #2: 2) Sometimes, the scores aren't right; the electronic scoreboard will say you knocked down x pins when really you knocked down more than x or fewer than x. Several times, I've seen bowlers get awarded with 1 pin knocked down when really they bowled a gutter ball. On another occasion, I saw a bowler knock down a total of 17 pins in one frame, but get credit for only 8; she hit 9 pins on her first throw, the #1 bad flaw happened, and she hit 8 pins on her second throw. Their pizza and salad are pretty good! Whenever there were leftover slices, I always pounced on the opportunity! I couldn't stop eating! They also had plenty of napkins so that all my subsequent frames wouldn't result in gutter balls. If you're looking to bowl for fun, you don't care about the scores that you get, and you don't care for the flaws that will affect your bowling scores, by all means, come to Cal Bowl. However, if you're looking to bowl competitively in an environment similar to that of the PBA, look somewhere else. read more

This place is extremely crowded and is musty as ever. When I came in it was a lot of clubs there playing so it people everywhere (at least on Saturday) the customer service is nice for the most part. But they really need to remodel this place. The cafe is cool, I had fries and wings, only thing is they close earlier than the bowling alley. The pool room/game room was set up weird. Cool lowkey Bowling spot in a plaza. It takes you back to the when people used to wear bowling shirts. Feels like a legit bowling alley dedicated to bolwers. It's a decent size bowling alley and staff are friendly. What i like about this place is it doesnt try to be like AMF or bowlero, its an old school bowling alley with a quaint cafe on the side. Cool place. Aesthetics are outdated. Used to go here in the 80s and it feels as though nothing has changed. I feel like I walked back in time, not in a good way. It needs a serious facelift. It feels/smells dusty or mildewy. Chairs are old and tarnished, carpet gives off an old odor and the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired, just to name a few. My waitress was outstanding and knowledgeable about "what's good", and the food is tasty (I ordered a blt/fries) but waaaaaay over priced. Waaaaaay! That's the major reason they get 3 stars. If it's family friendly, then breaking the bank shouldn't be for a sandwich, burgers or fries etc. grant it, their menu has many different cultures to choose from but I'm not trying to leave broke because I ordered a couple of tacos of a lumpias. LOL. My opinion simplify the menu, condense it down, keep the great taste and update Mayberry. It'll be a LONG time if ever before I return. read more
