Winery was lovely, the views spectacular. The wine was uniformly exceptional. The reason only 4 stars? I had a Two-for-one tasting coupon that I picked up at my hotel. Upon presenting it, the server said the winery no longer accepts the coupon. It had no expiration date and it was a biz card size coupon generated by the winery. If you distribute these coupons you should honor them unless there is an expiration date. The server's denial was penny-wise, pound foolish as I had come fully prepared to buy several bottles. Yes, you saved one tasting fee but lost significantly more with the non-sale of bottles. My annoyance precluded me from purchasing a single bottle--and no, I didn't suffer because the several bottles of wine I purchased at Hunt and Brochelle were the equals of those served here. read more

Barbara Vansant was our server and did an outstanding job of welcoming us back, explaining the wines in honest detail, using humor and excellent service to make our experience top flight. Such a beautiful view from the top of the hill where the vineyard is located. There's plenty of food to choose from the menu and vegetarian meals are offered as well. The service is fantastic, our server gave us plenty of historical information about the vineyard which added a lot more to the experience. My favorite wine was Lloyd which was named after the original owner. Upon arriving there was plenty of parking spots, on the way up however the road was very narrow and a bit nerve wracking, but ultimately it was worth it. read more

We were celebrating a bachelorette at the vineyard on a Sunday afternoon. We all took wine tasting and ordered some bite food. None of the wines stood out for us and we did not end up buying any. The Margherita Pizza and the charcuterie and cheese board were good. The view is great! Our main lowlight was the server. When we went in we requested for a table by the boundary of the hill. There were two of them free. We were told they could not be given since they were reserved. We also had a reservation! Also during our entire time at the vineyard those two tables continued to stay vacant. We found this very dishonest! We are very keen about the cheese types and asked our server about them when the board came in. He did not know it then, went to the kitchen and still could not tell us all of them after confirming with the kitchen. He asked us if we were celebrating any special occasion and we informed him it was a bachelorette and then we did not get any mention/ service for it. If you don't have any offerings why even bother asking. Will not return or recommend a visit for the very very poor service. We go here every time we drive through Paso (which is now about every other month) and have been members since 2017 - featured their wine at our wedding! It would be enough to come here just for the gorgeous VIEWS (that photo does not show it off at all) - the best in Paso IMHO and I've been to many - but luckily the wine is also superb which is why we are members. The extra treat for me is that their whites (and Vin Gris rose) are as excellent as their reds, which is harder to find in Paso. AND the food is excellent, with a creative foodie menu that changes regularly enough to keep it interesting. Their member events are fun each quarter. read more

Some of the past reviews have knocked Calcareous on their service, and unfortunately I agree with them. I came as part of a group of four and we were excited as it was our first winery of the day. The views were lovely, but unfortunately the service left something to be desired. We felt rushed and there were quite long breaks in between each wine. When the server did come he was friendly, but would just give a quick 10 second spiel on each and then rush off. At least most of the wines were nice. read more

Calcareous is worth the drive through the windy road. They have great wines, the location and the panoramic view is beautiful. The tasting room is big, and the staff are friendly. This winery was recommended by one of the partners at the law firm I work for and I'm glad I came to check it out. They have a great selection of red and white wines for reasonable prices, no reservations are needed on a saturday morning, the views of Paso Robles Valley on a clear day was worth it. You can see all the limestone deposits as you drive up... definitely give the wines a unique taste. The estate cab is fabulous... we liked it so much, ended up buying a few bottles. The wine was fine, especially liked the cab sauv which was last of four on the tasting menu and the Lily Blanc (roussanne, viognier, Grenache Blanc) was nicely crisp and dry comparable to a sauv blanc. Unfortunately several of their staff did not wear face masks - even indoors. At least one in the kitchen among other staff and two in the tasting room at the registers didn't wear a face mask and one of the outdoor servers wore a face shield but not a mask underneath which to be clear is not the same level of safety. Also there are signs all over the property warning about snakes. When we inquired we learned that there are rattle snakes among others. Depends on the season of course but if you are afraid, would recommend to avoid this one. read more

Excellent lunch spot with fantastic food in a lovely setting atop a hillside overlooking the valley. My friend and I shared the mushroom risotto topped with a braised short rib and a duck cassoulet. The risotto was cooked perfectly with plenty of flavorful mushrooms to add to the savory. The braised short rib was tender and braised in a light amount of gravy which added to the dish and separated enough to not overly mesh the flavors. My husband and I visited on a Tuesday morning right when they opened at 10 AM. We had the place to ourselves for a little while and got to walk around the grounds and enjoy the view! The property is gorgeous and surrounded by the beautiful vineyard hills. We each did a wine tasting. The wines were so good. We ended up taking home bottles of the vin gris cuvée and their Grenache. Our server was really nice and informative- they pointed out to us where the grapes for each wine were grown and explained the different blends to us which we found really interesting! They serve lunch too, which we will have to try next time (I'm eyeing you outdoor pizza oven!). They waive the tasting after a certain bottle purchase as well. We visited on Saturday, 11/12/22, and Nathan, our server, was awful! He has no clue on how to treat guests and pushed getting a bottle of wine vs serving our tastings and having to spend time to explain the wine. It was an awkward encounter and we felt unwelcome and pressured to only get a bottle of wine and not tastings. Once our bottle got to the table, he never checked in on us, never poured our wine, he completely ignored us. He clearly wanted to focus on larger parties vs having to deal with tastings for a party of 2. He ruined our experience! All the bad reviews on this winery are spot on.
