Ordered takeout on the phone at 5 PM and was promised that it would be ready by 535. When we got there at 5:50pm, they still hadn't started making the order. We ended up leaving with the food at 6:15 PM. This is not the first time this is happened. We have used their online system to place an order for delivery and the ETA always says 35 to 45 minutes however ends up being an hour plus. We've ordered 5xs and counting from here. They are sooooo fast and have sent complimentary soups. Their tiki masala is THE BOMB-like right now I'm craving it :( Rice with their little fresh peas and clove seasoning was devoured in literally minutes. Samosas are wonderful and nan is delectable. Even the little dipping sauces are fresh and are handled with care. We order other things but these are my personal favorite. The food here is awesome. The ingredients that are used (whether it is from the lamb to the vegetables) taste extremely fresh. And, you can tell there is a lot of care put into each dish that is made. Somehow the combinations of ingredients they use in each dish allow you to taste each piece that was put into the combination -- an honest to god flavor explosion that just keeps you angling for more and more. Not too mention, the owners are extremely nice and are willing to go the extra mile to make sure your experience is great. Oh, and the price is right. IMO, the vast majority of reviews for this place are fake. We've taken out from this place 4 or five times over the past couple of years. On the best days the food is just OK ... on their worst days you might as well crumple up a 50 dollar bill and throw it out your car window. I understand it's hard to get delivered food "right" but the breads are always soggy, the dhosa is tasteless and vegetarian roll is so dry it's like a mouthful of saw dust. Also more often than not they got the order wrong in some way. last time the rice was missing so that one mistakes makes the meal inedible. The time before no yogurt or chutney. We moved into Hastings-on-Hudson from the city a few months ago and have ordered dinner and snacks from this place on numerous occasions, and so far the food has been amazing every time. As their name suggests the Bong dishes like the fish chop and shrimp in mustard sauce (shorshe) are awesome but so are non-Bong dishes like lamb vindaloo. Though please go easy on the spice level as we quickly get spiced out despite having a high threshold for it. They also make a pretty decent biryani though nothing like the real thing from Kolkata with its tender oil/ghee soaked potatoes. The prices are very reasonable and the portion size good if not large. We hope this place will continue to keep us happy in the future so we won't have to run to the city all the time to satisfy our desi cravings. read more

New Indian spot, thought we'd try it for dinner instead of eating in. 1st time order, for 2. Decided since they had so many rolls choices must be a hit with the customers. For apps we ordered the Chicken Tika Roll and Shrimp roll. Unexpectedly they were nicely seasoned and quite tasty. The Entree we both actually landed on the same choice of the Lamb Korma. The lamb was nicely cooked, seasoning was good as well, sauce was a bit on the thicker side but I prefer like that some days. Now if you see the pictures on the images section the usual black plastic tray of food that comes at dinners and most stores is not what you are going to get so don't expect it unless they change it up. It is a smaller sized portion for the same price as their other competitors, also kind of cheap on the rice 1 small box for both to share. For an easy way to win customers hearts where your profiting by a large margin fill them up with as much rich as you can at the least! I was very excited to try this place out! Finally made it.. There were people eating inside and the sign on the door said closed. It seemed like it was open so I open the door. I was asked if I wanted to stay or to go and looked back at my boyfriend to see what he wanted to do and was quickly told "we are Closed!" It was very confusing and very strange. I will never go to this restaurant. While visiting another shop in Ardsley Plaza this restaurant was receiving a delivery from Sysco Foods. The Sysco driver was blocking the entire parking lot and refused to move to let other customers leave. The owner at Calcutta was asked to speak to the driver and he refused to do so. I was kept prisoner in the parking lot for over 25 minutes on a 90 degree day. The driver could have moved his truck less than 20 feet to the other side of the parking lot and let 6 different cars leave, but chose not to. Calcutta's owner should be ashamed to treat his neighbor's customers that way. He definitely lost all of us as customers. He was rude and selfish. read more

When I asked him whether he would return to a place that took over and hour to make food he agreed he wouldn't - but still no apology. In the era of social media this is not acceptable!!! This is the best Indian place in the US. I'm based in Manhattan, it's sad Manhattan places can not compete. I only wish they'd open a location in Manhattan. Feel like I should update on my previous rant: Calcutta is really the best takeout Indian food option we have in the area. We tried to stay away because of our bad experience, but couldn't. They just have a hard time keeping up with the strong demand, so we stick to pickup or eating in and we have no problem. Their rolls are delicious and the rest of the menu always tastes great too. I've been ordering from Calcutta for about 3 years now, mostly take-out or delivery since their seating is limited. Yesterday I decided to actually sit down and eat there since I had the time. I noticed a small wooden plaque by the utensils area that read "In Loving Memory of Dr. B". I am so saddened to hear the news, albeit I'm almost 2 years late. I recall on my very first visit, this incredible man quickly exchanged my chicken plate because I found it too spicy. He even gave me a free lassi while I waited for another dish - at no extra charge, mind you. Their Chicken Korma dish is amazing, I order it at least 3-4 times a month. Do yourself a favor and order it with some Naan (plain or garlic). I'm happy that business has continued for this excellent little Indian gem in Ardsley, and that the quality has remained consistent. The food here is extremely delicious. Albeit there is an Indian restaurant close by to our house, we prefer driving the 20mi round-trip to CWR for the awesome chana masala. Of course their other dishes are excellent as well, but you should judge a northern Indian menu by their chana. Why? Chole is one dish that requires plenty of spices. In the least, using too much of some or too little of others will totally change its taste. Good chole is like French bread or pastries (extremely hard to find even in NYC.) Called in an order late Sunday afternoon while heading toward the area (basically an appetizer and soup) and the wait time was 50 minutes.
