I stopped by this spot to try their spin of Mexican bbq. The carnitas taco was really good. I put the Carolina gold bbq sauce on it and it was perfect. I liked that sauce so much that I'd consider going back just to try it on some of their other bbq. I didn't like the brisket birria taco as much because it was way too salty for me. The mac and cheese was also just okay. It had so much sauce that it was too thick and unpleasant to eat. The vibe was good though. They have seating inside and outside. I love that they had the misters running to keep the outdoor seating cool. The staff was also very nice.

Oh my. Random find in passing and came across this jewel. Hard to find tender and tasty meats. The inside is small but has outside dining with a mister to keep you cool. The place is clean and inviting. They greet you and explain the menu. Ordered a pull pork burrito. Spot on. They have their BBq sauces on the table. The flavors are a party in your mouth. So stinking good. This will be a must stop if ever in the area.

OK, we've been big fans of Caldwell's BBQ for years and somehow had never made it over to Caldwell's Mexi-Q... big mistake on our part--especially since it combines two of my all-time favorite things...brisket and tacos! Parking was a breeze, and since there were three of us (including one never-full teenager ), we went for the Mexi-Q Platter and added an extra birria taco so everyone could try one. It absolutely lived up to the hype! The surprise standout? The brisket tostada--sooooo flavorful and satisfying on every level! We also loved the sausage link, Mexi-Q twinkies (aka smoked jalapeños stuffed with brisket and cream cheese, then wrapped in bacon ), and honestly, everything we tried was a hit. For sides, we ordered Grandma's Calabacitas (a yummy squash veggie mix), roasted cream elote, and Julio's mac n' cheese (which I skipped, but the guys were big fans). We wrapped up this phenomenal meal with their GF banana pudding (they offer both GF and regular options), and it was seriously scrumptious--such a treat to have a gluten-free dessert that feels just as special! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and attentive. They double-checked that everything we ordered (minus the mac n' cheese) was gluten-free, which is always such a relief. It means so much when a place truly understands gluten and can clearly guide you on what's safe. 2/12/26 Starving during appointment and shopping day. Circled back for a second visit and not a minute too soon. Parking 5/5 Small lot but no problem slipping into a parking spot near the entrance at 4:30 pm. Atmosphere 5/5 Rated based in similar venues, clean but small indoor dining area with high-top seating. We chose outdoor seating because it was a beautiful day. Plenty of seating and only a few families outside. Pleasant experience on the patio today. Service 5/5 Just like our last visit, the kitchen crew are great. Our order taker and restaurant ambassador always does nice job mixing it up with me while taking my order. Kudos! Food 10/5 Not a typo. This is crazy good food. Their Brisket is amazing and consistent and has pushed my former number 1 off their pedestal and has become my new #1. Great job guys! Today we ordered a feast. (1) fatty brisket 1/2 lb with bread. (3) Birria tacos. (6) outlawed bacon wrapped Jalapeños. (1) quart of Elote street corn. A- MAZING!!!!! So I'm doing my best not to curse, because I want to truly express how much I F-ING LOVE THIS PLACE! While working in the area of course I hot up my Yelp app...... 2 miles up the road I see this place listed, I click...... and I see a couple reviews from a few of my Yelp friends Derrick & Art. Well, after reading Derrick's review, which is EXCELLENT BTW, I was i may give to go here, then saw Art's endorsement & I was sold! Upon arrival, the parking lot is small, instant anxiety that the place is packed! NOPE.. Just a small lot to park, so food a spot & get here NOW! There's a bunch of Coveted outside seating, clean place, inside is cute & inviting. They jam country too... Approached the counter meet Brian F., this dude rocks! Often I will tell the place I'm visiting that I'm a rookie, must say thanks & ask what I want, not Brian F. he is real friendly. Brian F. said let me grab you a sample Brisket too help you decide... I mentioned i was torn between Brisket & Birria, so Brian F. said "get both! ", he recommends the Birria & Briaket for a 1st timer, I replied, LFG! Give me 2 of each, Brian replied "what about a twinkie? Having grown up during the Twinkie heyday, I was confused & not real interested... Brian F pulled out a Twinkie.... A BACON WRAPPED JALAPENO, stuffed with cream cheese & Brisket! ARE YOU F-ING KIDDING ME!!!!! YES, YES & 5 TIMES YES ON SUNDAYS! I love Caldwell's bbq, this was my first time trying the Tex mex version. I opted for a burrito, the jalapeño popper, and Mexican corn. I loved that the burrito doesn't have any rice, maximizes the protein. All the food was great. But if I'm being honest I think I prefer the classic bbq food. I'm not a huge Tex mex fan, personally preference. But the quality of this place is top notch. Love the outdoor seating, inside can be squishy.

The concept of Barbecue with Mexican together is genius! First time and you've hooked me! The BBQ Brisket Tostada stole the show! The Brisket Birria Tacos are money! Enjoyed the Mexi-Q Twinkie - spicy and the brisket with cheese in a bacon wrapped Jalapeño pepper is tasty! Enjoyed the smoked Jalapeño - cheddar sausage as well. Good service with great food. The parking is tight but it's worth the search for a parking spot. Primarily outdoor seating with misting fans to keep it reasonably comfortable. Love it!

Service - Excellent. Extremely quick and friendly! Overall Vibe - Small inside but Plenty of outdoor seating! I love the laid back atmosphere with the picnic tables and metal trays for easy cleanup. Brisket Birria - Easily our favorite. Has a lot of flavor and the consume is key. Wish it had a bit more cheese but overall could've just gotten these and been happy. Brisket Taco - Was a bit dry and salty but the flavor was nice and Smokey. Huge piece of meat too. Chili Verde - also a bit dry, wish it had more chili verde sauce. Smoked Carnitas - I wouldn't get both Chili Verde and Smoked Carnitas they were pretty similar tasting with smoked carnitas even dryer. Could use more toppings or salsa for sure. Mac n cheese - fantastic. Gooey and cheesy, full of flavor. Not too thick or watery, great consistency. Elote - shockingly light. Smokey. A little liquidy but overall good! Banana Pudding - delicious, definitely a must try. Very very strong banana flavor so I was wondering if they add additional flavor because I've never had something taste so banana-y but it was delicious! BBQ Sauces - they offer two delicious bbq sauces complimentary. I highly recommend adding those to the more dry items. We do wish they offered some Mexican salsa options instead of just bbq because that would've been great on top of all tacos. Overall I would return and get the Birria tacos with a side of Mac n cheese and banana pudding for desert and be happy! Maybe I should try one of their bbq options instead since that is what they are known for.

I love this place. The bbq Mexican fusion is on point. My first time here, I ordered 1 Birria Tacos, 1 chicken taco, 1 Mexi-q, and half pound of brisket. I fell in love with the presentation and the taste. I especially love a good jalapeno popper so I really enjoyed the Mexi-q. The service was great from the guys cooking and serving. The inside is very quaint, but the outside patio is very open with plenty of seating.

Came here with a friend for lunch for the first time. Parking is very limited and the inside is pretty small. When you go in you have to loops around the only large table in there so no one actually sits inside because it's a bit awkward. The line goes by pretty quickly. The cashier also cuts and weighs the meat right at the counter. I should have gotten something more mexi q but the El General Patton was calling my name. It was alot of sandwich for $20. I ended up bringing it home and finished it the next day. Love their house BBQ and Golden BBQ sauce. Staff was really friendly and inviting too.

I came to Caldwell with some friends on a Friday night. The outdoor seating was awesome for when the weathers not too hot. The food was delicious! It's a fusion of Mexican and bbq, can't go wrong. My favorites were the hot link, birria tacos & elote. The brisket was a bit dry imo but everything else was pretty good. A tasty spot and awesome location for checking out the neighborhood & bars after dinner.

First time here, have been to Caldwell BBQ many times and was looking forward to an evening meal with some friends. I arrived about 30 minutes early and had an opportunity to chat with the manager. It was not busy and he went through each dish and explained how it was different from the dishes at Caldwell BBQ. I appreciated the information and pondered the different choices. Other two in party showed up and placed started to get busy. I selected the smoked brisket burrito with beans and pico. The side dish was elote. Food was very good, not to spicy and everyone else enjoyed their various taco selections. Inside seating is limited, outside covered patio has misters but still too dam hot for Arizona summers. Definitely will be back to try the other dishes. All good here. Its up the street from several other BBQ restaurants. This one is unique and quaint with excellent food. All good here!

First let me say I am a fan of Caldwell's BBQ It is some of the best around town.However I can't say the same about their venture into the Mexican arena. We had the Brisket Birria Taco and the carnitas taco. And a brisket tostada. All were good but mediocre at best. I would say the brisket meat was good but not as fresh as the main Caldwells location. The tostada was more of a joke at $8 each. Was a precooked hard tortilla with some mashed beans spread thin and without the house sauces would be subpar. The birria was a over done taco shell fried with the meat inside. Came out greasy and all alone. Let me close by saying want BBQ go to Caldwells main location. For Mexican I would say leave the Mexican to the Mexicans Inside was cramped and obviously made for carry out. read more

I've tried the original Caldwell County and it's delicious, so I wanted to try this spin off. Everything was delicious. I love brisket so a brisket birria taco was very welcomed. The elote was delicious and the squash. I'll definitely be back to try the brisket tostada. read more

Wow, went to a fundraiser last night and Caldwell did the catering for the event of 300 people in Scottsdale. Bbq was amazing with their sauce and their mac n cheese had great flavor ! Pickles were good too! read more

The food is absolutely delicious. Some of it is Mexican style and other is regular brisket, etc. The gluten free banana pudding dessert is really good (finally a place with GF dessert!). It's a tiny, cute restaurant with friendly and speedy service. The seating outdoors has mega misters that keep us cool during the hot months. Overall, I've been enjoying dining here. read more

I'm so disappointed that I didn't try Caldwell County Mexi-Q sooner! We ordered brisket and birria tacos, the twinkies and a green Chile burrito. Let me tell you - you won't be hungry after eating any of these items. The size of the burrito was huge! The tacos were full of delicious meat. The hot sauce and bbq sauce were all super tasty. The consume was super delicious with great flavor. The birria taco had a hint of Smokey flavor which really enhanced the consume. Try this place!!! No more drive thru! We are huge fans of the the Caldwell brand, their BBQ is outstanding. In the area and on my list to try this version. Brought home a brisket tostada which my wife rated a 9! I had the brisket taco and it was excellent. What I didn't care for were the sides. The elote wasn't what I was expecting, this was an overly spiced, for my taste , version. The calabacitas, same. Overly spiced, some flavors I didn't recognize, and I've had a lot of different calabacitas. The mexi q Twinkie....wayyy too hot for my old taste buds. Staff was very friendly, nothing wrong with this place, just not my style. If you like seriously flavorful and spicy food, I think you will like this place. read more

What's not to love? Great BBQ with a Mexican spin and delicious sides!!! Also they have a nice outdoor seating area. We were there on a summer day in 115° temps and it was shaded with misters making it very comfortable to sit outside. read more

This gem offers bar-b-que as good as it gets and there are creative Mexican food options. We had delicious sandwiches and the meat was juicy, smoky and tender. All three sauces are great--with different degrees of spicy, sweet and tangy. The Julio's mac and cheese side was creamy, decadence. I've never had anything quite like it. Enjoy sitting on picnic tables outside. You can savor the aromas from the meat smokers. We tried this spot on a whim and it ended up being a home run. read more

Brisket Taco & a beer. Drop the mike. Best taco! I could only eat one, but I wanted two. We walked in and were offered a sample of brisket. The brisket was tender and juicy. My husband ordered the brisket sandwich, 1/3 pound, which included a side. He opted for the pinto beans. They had a subtle spicy taste. Food: I ordered the guajillo ribs with calabacitas on the side. The food was delicious! The ribs were juicy and flavorful with tender meat. The side of squash was cheesy and savory and added some nutrients to the meal. Unfortunately, I docked one star because the sauces were a bit too sweet for my liking. Service: The owner of the restaurant stopped by my table outside and greeted us, asking if we wanted some heat outside. Overall, this place is unique and the food is delicious and homemade. It's a hot dog place. They're good hot dogs (all beef) and they have a wide variety of toppings you can add... most are free, but some, like brisket and chili have an added cost. Yes, you can top your dog with smoked brisket from Caldwell County BBQ... The dogs are grilled in Big Green Eggs. Of that means something to you, there you go. If not... no worries. Just some trivia from me to you. I got mine with sauerkraut and mustard. To go, the mustard (and BBQ sauce) are "do it yourself." I like pickled cabbage. Sorry. I think the dog had good flavor and the sauerkraut was ... probably from a jar or can. But it was a free topping, so, what are you going to do? It was crunchy and not soggy. I enjoyed my dog. My wife and one son had chili and cheese dogs and the other son did brisket with BBQ sauce. He said the brisket was great and the hot dog was OK. The other two liked the chili, but my wife thought it was a little pricey when compared to the price of the brisket topping. That son liked the chili better than the hot dog, so, a vote for good chili (no beans in this stuff). We'd all go back, but probably not make a special trip from where we live. read more

My dawgs aren't barking at Clay Dawgs since I don't even need to walk out of my car to eat here. I can get a hot dog cooked on a Big Green Egg delivered to me through a convenient drive thru! I got a brisket dog with saeurkraut and yummy sauce. The toppings were plentiful and the dog had a robust full flavor. I enjoyed the yummy sauce, it lives up to its name! It's a perfect blend of tangy vinegar flavor with some sweetness. The only negative is that while our order was to go, it wasn't wrapped securely for a car ride home. My friend and I stopped in today (Sunday, 11/13/2022 at 4:50pm) for a order in take out. I ordered the brisket, a barrio taco, jalapeño Twinkie, Coca Cola and two sides (Mac n cheese and elote). My friend got the barrio tacos and a cookie. I order the barrio tacos but was not given them so I did pay for them and called the store about twenty minutes later when we arrived at my friends house in mesa / 202. They said they would refund the taco so I'll let you know if they do. At the register, my Coke wasn't in the bag and had I not asked for it they would've not given it to me. My biggest suggestion is to 100% check your order before you leave the store because they are not totally focused on it. My friend mentioned the same thing about getting her cookie. I was pumped about the barrio taco lol she did say they were delicious. The food was pretty good. The elote was alright. It was a little too much liquid and not enough solids though the taste was there. The Mac n cheese was tasty. The brisket was good, a littleeee dry in spots but definitely tasty with the sauces. The jalapeño Twinkie was bomb. Expensive dinner and I tipped well so almost $50. Overall, I would go back but I would make sure all my purchases are in the bag. Update: 11/19/2022 I've looked for my $5 return and haven't found it. In fact I haven't found any charge so I'm like 90% they refunded my entire order. So I'll definitely be back for their impeccable customer service. read more

Quick service spot. Grab your food and sit outside under the misters. We had the two brisket tacos, two brisket stuffed jalapeños, a pulled pork tostada, and two brisket birria tacos. This is my first time here... And definitely not my last. This is one of the best hotdogs I've ever had. The quality of ingredients and condiments is off the hook. The dogs are smoked(best part) and what makes them better is adding smoked brisket on top. I ordered a dog with smoked brisket, dill slices, diced onion & BBQ sauce. Great mix of flavors and textures. I wish the BBQ sauce had some kick and that they served beer I will be back. Extremely disappointing! Being a lover of both BBQ and Mexican food, I mistakenly thought Caldwell County Mexi-Q would be a sure bet; however, I was sadly mistaken. The portion sizes were small based on the prices they charge, the brisket was dry, the tostadas were soggy, the elote was watery, and the customer service was seriously lacking. Having previously eaten at Caldwell County BBQ, which I recommend, I had high expectations for Caldwell County Mexi-Q, but Mexi-Q was a complete and utter disappointment. In fact, Caldwell County BBQ should remove its name from Mexi-Q as there is a major disparity in quality between the two eating establishments. We went to the new location in the pecan entertainment area. We liked it so much more than their location on Power. I like this place better than Caldwell's and I love Caldwell's. The Texas Twinkie was fantastic, Mac and cheese was awesome, and the elite was tantalizing. Brisket was good and moist. I wish there were more indoor seating especially in the AZ summer, but they have put in misters to help. It's a little on the pricey side, but that is what happens with good BBQ. I really enjoyed trying out this place. I'm a huge taco connoisseur, and the food did not disappoint. I only had a chicken tostada and a few tacos, and they were not oversalted like at other BBQ spots in the area. The tostado base shell was super fresh as well as the tortillas. I'm used to the Power location Caldwell so when I was in the area, I thought I'd stop by and give it a try. The place is set up the same where you walk up and order and pay, sit and eat. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. They were out of birria tacos that day which was the biggest reason to visit but, oh well, I tried the carnitas tacos. As a person who hand makes corn tortillas weekly for my family, I can tell you that they need to learn how to warm up a tortilla. It was taken from the fridge and gently skimmed the griddle then filled with meat which meant the tortillas was still stiff and barely edible. I'll excuse that because the meat was flavorful and plenty. But please, please, learn how to properly warm up a fridge corn tortilla... It makes a huge difference when it gets warmed up correctly and you enjoy it much so much more!! The Mexican Twinkie was good but a little disappointing for $4 you should get at least 2 of them not one lonely jalapeno :/. The creamed elote was delicious, no complaints there. I will be coming back and I'll make a point to tell them to please get the tortillas extra hot. I want to try their tostada next time and of course the birria! read more

For sides, tried the corn casserole, potato salad, vinegar coleslaw, and Mac & cheese. All were fabulous. The handmade prickly pear lemonade was great. For dessert, loved the pecan pie. They also have extensive safe options if you are gluten free by necessity. Location is cute, big tractor out front. Every staff person was extra friendly and helpful. They seemed to genuinely care if you enjoyed the food and your visit. Made you feel super welcome. This is a not to miss visit.

What a good hot dog. If you're looking for a place for a Chicago style hotdog, THIS IS NOT IT! LOL. The flavor from their cook method sets them apart. Love the mesquite smoke. I ordered the Brisket dog and a chili dog. Delicious. Wife got a polish with deli mustard and sauerkraut and she loved. Must try and the price is on par for a good hot dog. Highly recommend. Like I started this review if you're looking for a classic Chicago dog don't go. But if you're looking for place that makes hotdogs their own, a must try! read more

We've been waiting for this place to open and the day is finally here. They've got great food, awesome customer service, and the place is clean and nice. They have patio seating with nice misters and fans to keep you cool. The atmosphere is cute and the prices are affordable. We tried the Mac and cheese dawg! It was delicious! Highly recommend this joint! It's a nice addition to all the sit down places in downtown Gilbert! Bonus: they've got a drive thru!!! read more

This place has good dawgs! Build to your hearts desire with toppings for your dawg including their special yummy sauce that is a sweet specially made honey bbq that leaves you licking your lips for more. Polish dwag was so good with bacon, mac and cheese, cheddar cheese, and jalapenos. Very tasty! read more
